http://digg.com/apple/iPhone_USB_adapter_recall_an ... - trotskyist, on 09/21/2008, -5/+82shocking.
- hebejebelus, on 09/21/2008, -5/+54I like the capitalisation of "electrocution".
- Nitroxide, on 09/21/2008, -5/+46That innocent little thing? It doesn't look like it could cause a fire at all.
- stukdog, on 09/21/2008, -1/+39Funny, but you should have stuck with "That's what she said."
- OSXpert, on 09/21/2008, -2/+33The risk is that you could accidentally break the prongs by yanking it out of the socket the wrong way. I'm going to keep using my old one for the time being, as I am physically capable of safely removing something from an electrical outlet.
- cannibaljp, on 09/21/2008, -9/+28You MIGHT have too much time on your hands.
- drumorama, on 09/21/2008, -1/+20Or, you could charge it through your USB port with the provided USB cable.
Just a thought. - jads, on 09/21/2008, -1/+19Wow - if that URL had any more subdomains in it I swear it was a Paypal scam...
- JuanBSU, on 09/21/2008, -3/+20It caused a fire? too much friction...too little lube
- ileftfark, on 09/21/2008, -7/+24No big deal, just pop the old battery out, and put the new one right in, right?
;-) - Dumbledorito, on 09/21/2008, -2/+18Oh, sure, take ALL of the excitement out of consumer electronics, why don't you?
- SenatorPenguin, on 09/21/2008, -1/+17Just don't try to rip your power adapter sideways out of the wall.
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -5/+20well at least they made the process easy. had mine ordered in less than a minute.
- petard, on 09/21/2008, -1/+14Good thing there was no Macbook Air back then, huh?
- AntiGravityHero, on 09/21/2008, -0/+13An earth (or ground) pin is required on appliances where line voltage could potentially come in contact with the chassis of the device. Any "double insulated" device such as this charger does not require a ground pin. Most double insulated devices have a logo that consists of one box inside of a smaller box. See: http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/diy/electrics/plug/doubl ... for an example of such a logo.
- AntiGravityHero, on 09/21/2008, -1/+13The old adapters need to be destroyed. The average person is just going to throw it in the trash, or worse yet keep it in the "junk drawer" for a while until someone who wasn't aware of the recall finds it and begins using it again. Maybe Apple will recycle them.
- Dumbledorito, on 09/21/2008, -1/+13How stupid can you be?
A fork is the proper tool for this job. - xxpor, on 09/21/2008, -2/+13It looks like you're plugging a ***** dryer into the wall with that thing.
- sapo916, on 09/21/2008, -0/+9Here you go buddy, the online order form so you can stay alive to keep posting on Digg.
https://supportform.apple.com/200809/ - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+9I'm always amazed when I see the prongs on American electrical equipment, they're so fragile looking, at least compared to UK ones. Of course, it makes UK plugs massively oversized and awkward, but you have as much chance of breaking or bending a prong as you would snapping a brass rod in two.
http://www.laptop-part.org/images/UKACPlug.jpg Good picture showing what are adapter for a standard Mac power adapter is like. - thecosmicpope, on 09/21/2008, -0/+9xxpor, they are smaller than that image makes it look. But they are solid and there is no chance of this problem occuring with the UK plug.
- cannibaljp, on 09/21/2008, -12/+21That is the EXACT same phrase that my first girlfriend said when she saw me naked for the first time!
Wow, does that bring back memories... - brettgian, on 09/21/2008, -5/+13"In August 2006, Apple recalled 1.8 million notebook batteries manufactured by Sony," it was highest by Apple.
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -11/+19Use tweezers to get the broken prongs out.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+9Technically, you could be, we have the same sort of plugs on everything from the iPod to a fridge to a circular saw. We also have a 240V supply as well.
I think the design we have is regarded as one of the safest. Every plug has an earth prong which is longer than the live and neutral. In the socket, the live and neutral are internally covered and only open to allow the pins to be inserted whenever the earth prong is in place. Stops kids sticking anything near the live wires.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BS_1363 - inactive, on 09/21/2008, -0/+7The problem is Digg gets too much spam versus actual news
- MOJIRA, on 09/21/2008, -0/+7I like the English spelling of "capitalisation".
- earlvanze, on 09/21/2008, -0/+7That's what she said.
- jakem1, on 09/21/2008, -0/+6And the melting MagSafe adapters; and the mooing fans; and the expanding, cracking, discolouring Macbooks; and the cracking iPhones and that's just some of the hardware problems. Apple certainly seems to have a lot more trouble with their hardware than most other companies.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/21/2008, -0/+6The cost of shipping is peanuts compared to fire damage or loss of life claims from leaving them out there.
- EllimistX, on 09/21/2008, -0/+6Wow Goblin, that was actually pretty informative...thanks!
Makes me wonder why we don't have a similar system here in the states. - peaceninja, on 09/21/2008, -0/+5How hard is it for someone to do a duplicate check on a story before submitting? In fact digg duplicate checks for you. In those cases I cancel my submission and digg up the one that was submitted before me and shout out that one to friends. It's ridiculous that people still submit duplicates and ignore the attempt that digg makes to check for duplicate stories.
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -0/+5Maybe you should learn to not rip your headphone plug out sideways.
- ChairShot83, on 09/21/2008, -0/+5When I got deployed to Iraq, we were told that they don't usthe same adaptor and the voltage is different. A lot of guy fried their 360's not knowing of the increase in voltage.. Smells like burned toast in a toaster..
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -2/+6Designed in California. Made poorly in China
- itignition, on 09/21/2008, -2/+6you sound like a ***** cave man. lol.
- seldon452, on 09/21/2008, -9/+13It just works!
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -3/+7Do all American Sockets lack an Earth Pin?
- robzthird, on 09/21/2008, -1/+4Yeah he does, funny. But he does make a point.
- exonyte, on 09/21/2008, -4/+71. $200-$300?? Maybe with a 3 year contract, but its $500 without a contract.. so hence it is a $500 phone.
2. I agreed with you up until "one of the best investments i've ever made".
3. Stop being such a fanboy. - jokertt14, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Apple , Apple ,Apple , Apple,Apple , Apple,Apple , Apple,Apple , Apple,Apple , Apple Apple , Apple
Enough apple already they make stuff it works or it don't no different the Microsoft !! - RobotCitizen, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Apple's what?! Tell me. The suspense is killing me.
- SmilinGoat, on 09/21/2008, -5/+8no, only low voltage plugs.
- jakem1, on 09/21/2008, -0/+3Their customer service would be a lot better if their QA department did its job properly. As others have pointed out, this isn't exactly an isolated incident with Apple.
No doubt paying customers would be even happier if they didn't have to spend so much time queuing at the Genius Bar. - qpid, on 09/21/2008, -0/+3Update to 2.1 and cell issues are fixed.
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3I know exactly what sony did, because I used to have two vaios. I realize that this is a thread on digg that has to do with technology and therefore is filled with a bunch of posturing retards who in reality know nothing at all about how anything in the tech world works, but come on. Facts are facts.
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3I own a UMPC and a PSP. I love both more as a mobile surfing device. Safari crashes way too damned much, has no quick/easy way to open links in a new tab
- robzthird, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2So basically just use common sense? Got it!
- swisstone, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2Ahh, good 'ol UK sockets! No such problems :)
Don't you just hate nationalism on digg?
PS UK FTW -
