- gadgetophile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Oh cool, a laptop with no screen and four buttons. iBook Shuffle. It randomly reads out the contents of your files to you, because like, Life is Random!
- Sandkat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Apple could sell computers for $1 and people would STILL complain.
"I can build my own for $0.50!". - Bran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Apple too expensive..blah blah blah.
People do not complain that BMW does not produce a sub $15,000 car? I mean you get what you pay for folks. Want a cheap 499 laptop? be my guest. Don't complain when it sucks. - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3> since the apples are running on intel, could we buy the powerbook, and load windows onto it?
Yes, theoretically so. It runs on the developer Intels.
But you'd have to smoke something pretty bad to want to. - jasoneisen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I cannot wait to watch my apple stocks to go UP UP UP UP this week!
- electromatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i have a hard time understanding the hatred of macs on digg. i used pcs all my life until i started using photoshop daily at my all mac office and after a few months i decided i was tired of usb devices crashing my pc all the time and random other annoying problems and just get something that just worked and worked efficiently (i know, i know, your Dell works so awesome dude.) i find OS X much more effective for what i need...(you'll enjoy it too when Vista comes out) and my used G5 has worked flawlessly. there just seems to be alot of bitching on here... if you use MS, fine, i could care less. why does it seem everyone's so afraid of the fact apple is doing well these days?
oh...and this story is REALLY pointless...haven't these rumors pretty much been around for weeks? months? - snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Accidentally, I forgot to add this part:
Imagine if Apple could create a new laptop, budget priced, that had the appeal of an iPod? This would be such a hit especially with college students looking for a stylish and budget priced laptop, sales would soar like crazy, other computer brands would be crapping their pants. Let alone I would like to know how Microsoft would be reacting. - snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was actually expecting a cheaper iBook, it is absolutely essential that they do it. In order to gain marketshare, they need to make a cheaper, budget-price laptop for those who do not need all the power of a Powerbook or a higher end iBooks. Considering the fact that you can get a cheap Dell laptop for around $400, they need to start competiting with companies that make cheaper laptops, this is a smart decision for Apple, especially if they can market it correctly, to make it hip like a iPod, marketshare will rise like crazy.
- rvas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Umm, isn't the shuffle a cheap ipod?
- rookworm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No way iBooks will have dual core. Typical Apple fan delusions of grandeur
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't mind seeing a cheap Apple laptop at all, of course cheap to me is 400-500 dollar range. And cheap to apple is about 1100.
- wakazashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And how is this news? this has been going round the rumor mill for months now. no digg
I also love how they claim to be the ones who broke a story that first appeared on thinksecret... - colonelpanic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I cannot wait to watch my apple stocks to go UP UP UP UP this week!"
Oh i hear you.... bought 45 shares of them about 2 weeks before the g5 at $20. since it's split and is hovering around 75.... I'm happy. Can't wait till tuesday. Long as the video doesn't get replace by somthing like the ipod piquenyo or whatever. - Dustyb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dont they have that already? The Shuffle and the iBook are both their 'low-end' models of existing products. And with the shuffle, how much lower end can you go?
- Bran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^^^ thats weird you say that since the ibook starts at 999
- il0vemymac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would make sense. Last year at Macworld SF, they launched the Mac MIni -- this year a cheap laptop.
- nroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The time is 9:00 PST, and TechnoPagan, I completely agree with you....Im making this my big switch over to apple, so I'm in on whatever intel based laptop they release so i dont have to deal with Windows on a daily basis anymore. Everyone doesnt realize that anything you see in Windows was in OS X at least a year prior. When i hear people arguing for the piece of crap os, windows, I just pass them off as being ignorant retards.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Steve Jobs: "This year, guys, this year is going to be really cool. You know why? Well, imagine this: an iBook, for ONLY $1250 DOLLARS! That's right, guys: One thousand, two hundred and fifty dollars. Not only is it super cheap, it also has a thirty gigabyte hard drive! That's insane! For only five hundred more dollars, though, you can also get an iPod Video. Think different."
- canucksin2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nano is pretty cheap considering what you get.
***The Nano is a $90 product****
OLD OLD OLD OLD news!!
This has been on the rumors sites for months!
***Then it wasn't really news until now, was it*** - PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They could be re-releasing the Newton as a computer/iPod in one. ...except now they'd have to call it iPad or something stupid. Odds of this happening: 1000 to 1.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hopefully, this rumor is true. I personally don't think Apple is overpriced. Higher priced? Yes, but not overpriced. Not when you consider what you get with the deal and how carefully Apple's designers and engineers pay attention to even the tiniest details. That's worth paying for, as far as I'm concerned. But there's also the software package, the way it works, security, component quality, etc. It's all worth the price to me.
But not everyone sees it that way. Some people take that simplistic cheaper-is-cheaper approach to everything. Apple shouldn't ignore that as I suspect that accounts for most consumers. - TWiTarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I cannot wait to watch my apple stocks to go UP UP UP UP this week!"
can't wait either ;) - boombashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know if I can see a sub $1000 iBook at MacWorld - unless Apple uses Pentium M or Celeron chips. The new core (Yonah) chips are too expensive right now. Although that would be fine with me if they also came out with a loaded 15" PowerBook with the new Core chips as well, that's the one I'm hoping for.
- NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.applele.com/pict_05ibookmini_r01.html
I don't know if anyone even looked at this thing, but I know I would buy one. I already have a Mini and would like another laptop, but it has to be a small form factor, I already have the desktop replacement anchor one. I was looking at those small Sony ones, but Windows XP kind of turned me away from them. That little thing is exactly what I wanted, except it's white. Can't have everything I guess. - Rajio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
okay this digg post is posting about the business online's post about think secret's post which was already posted about on digg ages ago ... great. - boombashi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"If Apple really wants to appeal to a bargain market they'll have to go lower still." And they don't.
- hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im @ Macworld right now !!! cant wait till tuesday !!
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0credit card ready for a budget end Intel iBook....
i'll pick one up in a damn snap! - SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea i was thinking that 2 tigerpaper
- platypibri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Y'know, all this talk of how Apple MUST lower prices.... no one tells BMW that it MUST compete with Ford. Apple is as much about style and, yes, luxury as it is about computing. Not only will you get your work done, but you'll also enjoy the ride. Face it, Apple is all about UI and industrial design. A pizza box desktop or a low budget notebook kind of kills that.
- ashdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If this is all i will be disappointed. I was waiting for the plasmatv with OSX built in!!!
- shooby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you know what I'm thinking? I'm thinking that ALL laptop lines will get an intel makeover with core duo processors ranging between 1.5-2.0ghz, mac mini will get ViiV, and Intel will begin supplying flash chips inside the flash-based ipods (that's a long shot though :P)
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm still maintaining: Within a year, maybe not MacWorld, but within a year:
- Core Solo iBook, Core Duo PowerBook
- Core Solo Mac Mini, New form factor to accept 3.5" drive, iPod dock on top, cable card slot (or two), RF/Component/Composite inputs, an IR receiver on front (At first maybe only to control FrontRow 1 and the video iPod like the dock). Bluetooth and Airport Extreme, HDMI/DVI, VGA/Composite video output. No firewire, USB 2.0, DVD-R
- OS X 10.5, with updates to all apps, iLife '06 to debut tomorrow with iWeb (a template-like homepage creator for mac.com), a spreadsheet (iCalc?)
- Front Row 2 /w iTunes integration. Downloadable media to be played on your media center. PVR like functionality. Sync your vid iPod with your PVR/Downloaded content. I expect Tivo to have a hand in this.
- iPod Shuffle killed off, iPod Nano 1G to be debuted tomorrow.
- Apple branded digital camera which shares iPod dock form to also easily synch with iPhoto
Watch, and be amazed by my foresight! :) I wouldn't be surprised if Apple unveils some technology but does not offer it up for sale right away.. Kaleidescope would benefit from a few months of zealot drooling and media buzz, leading up to an x-box 360 style buying frenzy. - Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I suppose it only makes sense - with the release of the Nano, a new Shuffle was just begging to be made. Still, too bad they already used the term "Nano" - what're you gonna call something smaller than Nano? Pico? Femto?
Either way, I'm disappointed. I wanted a Mac Mini PVR. - Thmstec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we might see some intel mac, but I'm betting the Apple phone would be a big shocker, and apple likes to shock.

There won't be a live feed, but there will be a replay online afterwards. To avoid spoiling the official surprise(s) for myself, I've bookmarked the replay page for last year's MWSF (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf05/), and I'll change the URL to /mwsf06 on Tuesday. This'll let me skip straight to the show, rather than navigating through the announcements that will be posted online. - straylightrise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ill buy a cheap laptop, cheap being aroudn 400-500 for me...
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone know if macworld will have an internet feed?
- Thujone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet a $700 apple laptop would sell like gangbusters...
I know I would worder one immediately. - Grandfinale1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dupe.
http://digg.com/apple/Apple_may_offer_new_laptops_at_Macworld_ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not that there's anything wrong with that.
- tigerpaper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, those renders are cool. Apple should hire that guy for concept design.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't ever plan on buying even if these do come out because I'd rather get the nicer ones but stil dugg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh cool, a laptop with no screen and four buttons. iBook Shuffle. It randomly reads out the contents of your files to you, because like, Life is Random!
^made me laugh - boombashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0grape vine effect!
it's funny that render is exactly the rumored 13" wide iBook. I wonder if that is where it originated (that render is dated around the exact time Jobs made the Intel announcement June 2005). here's how it starts "Apple going to use Intel processors" later down the grape vine "Apple is coming out with a 72" Plasma with Viiv technology" - - - Apple is a tight lipped ship these days, I think there is only a few dozen people on the planet that have the true story, and they know they will be sleeping with the fishes if they snitch. - drycounty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not only is the "Intel Inside" sticker not going to appear -- but look at the sides. Firewire (400) is OUT on almost everything... still I'll be anxiously awaiting the news, my ear against the wall at the Moscone Tuesday. At least I'll beat the attendees to the store/display.
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet they come in black & white - like the iPods :-)
- topper24hours, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd love to see a screen added to the shuffle (it would then need a name change), but a grayscale screen like a mini or 2 gen ago full size ipod, rather than glossy color like the nano would perhaps keep it at the same or lower price point. As far as notebooks go I'd rather see high end than cheap. The Acer Yonah lappy sounded nice w/ a 2ghz dual core proc a few gb of ram and a sata drive. That would run Tiger nicely... a $500-700 lappy would NOT!
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahmerhussain How is the nano cheap for what you get? :O So it's a flash drive, wow. You still get only 2/4GB. Who cares? When was the last time a normal iPod skipped?
- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TechnoPagan, I would think he knows it is fake, but its just a cool concept. I am looking to buy my first mac, and i would definitly make that my first.
