- ryan83189, on 04/04/2009, -15/+1375 million pixels of blur and noise through a ***** lens? Sign me up, this beats my 3 Mp slr any day of the week, because 5 mp > 3 mp.
- abid8740, on 04/04/2009, -13/+111A camera flash would be much more useful than more megapixels....
- adremali, on 04/04/2009, -9/+78yay more megapixels of a ***** ccd. now my blurry pics can be much bigger!
- Zervaman, on 04/04/2009, -2/+68Err...is this really surprising?
Does anyone expect the next iPhone to NOT have more storage and a better camera? - fugazied, on 04/04/2009, -5/+39Just buy a camera, a phone won't have a flash because of battery issues and size issues. There's no room in the iphone for an internal flash. The best you can hope for is an external flash and an adapter for the iphone.
- HappyScrappy, on 04/04/2009, -5/+39Wow, you own a DSLR. I'm so impressed.
- GoldEdition, on 04/03/2009, -13/+46I see some nice sweet things coming from Apple soon...
- derektherock42, on 04/04/2009, -3/+31People bitch about iPhone's "crappy 2 megapixel camera" but when they fix that problem people bitch about how megapixels don't matter.
- SpookyET, on 04/04/2009, -10/+36It will still be *****. The lens and the quality of the chip is what matters. Put 100 mega pixels on a crap chip, and you'll get a crap image. Do you know how many mega pixels the Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity have? One (1) mega pixel. Look at the photos they have taken. More mega pixels is just like more mega hertz -- a myth.
Think of the chip as a matrix of pixels. You take a picture of a red pepper. A crap 10MP chip will have 10 squares filled with red. A good 1MP, like on the Mars rovers, will fill 2 squares with red while the other 8 with different shades of red.
The lens and the sensitivity of the sensor is what matters, not the size. I am yet to see a phone that takes a decent picture. Though, some European and Japanese ones are certaintly getting to a decent point and shoot. Nokia N95 has had 5 megapixes since 2007. - rytr23, on 04/04/2009, -3/+28umm, maybe a real camera is what you're looking for?
- yerdaddy, on 04/04/2009, -3/+26They also ordered a bunch of little crap plastic lenses to put in front of them.
- fanboydcs, on 04/04/2009, -7/+30Autofocus would be more useful than both, flash would only add another blemish to the backside of the phone, not needed
- defectDS, on 04/04/2009, -0/+21Ha. Welcome to Digg.
- c010rb1indusa, on 04/04/2009, -2/+20Could the 5MP be new iSights for the Macbooks or is it the camera is the iPhone Pro...
- srg13, on 04/04/2009, -1/+17Do you seriously have a 3 MP SLR? The closest I can think of to that was the 10 year old Nikon D1 which had a 2.7MP sensor... I think it's time to upgrade...
- fanboydcs, on 04/04/2009, -2/+17Auto focus to scan barcodes!!!
- Rescu3, on 04/04/2009, -5/+19The Nokia N82 has a 5 MP camera and xenon flash. This was designed in 2007...
- smackhard, on 04/04/2009, -1/+15Will the lens be Carl Zeiss or third grade cheap manufacture outsourced from Taiwan as on the present iphone ?
- damntourists, on 04/04/2009, -4/+15isn't the main purpose of the iphone, to be a phone, and not a slr camera?
- pwner, on 04/04/2009, -0/+11Digg Rocks. Reddit sucks. Ron Paul will be president. Narwhals, goats, kittens, and hawks. Legalize pot so that I have something to buy with my gold. Apple sucks, Windows sucks, some Linux distros suck. The Android G1 is cool even though it forces you to use a USB adapter for your headset. Net Neutrality and Electric Cars! (Tesla sucks though because it can't charge really fast like a gasoline powered car and Top Gear broke a Tesla, because they've never broken a car on that show before.) I forget what else I missed.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 04/04/2009, -2/+12Or do like most people do and get good quality pics from a good camera.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+10Some camera phones have led bulbs while can light up a dark pic. It also doubles as a flashlight, which turns out to be one of the most useful features on a cellphone
- ShyGuy91284, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9I like taking pictures of turtles.
- ChunkerMunker, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
At&t will have faster connections
Rumors of faster Iphone processors
SDK 3.0 provides with more battery life (with possible newer longer lasting batteries coming soon I'm assuming)
These new cameras
Screenshots of Iphone video on the new SDK
This points out to "Ichat" and video recording on the Iphone.
I think this is what Steve and co. eventually always wanted anyway. A Jetsons type of phone that doesn't drain the battery and has great quality.
They released the current version of the Iphone as a beta version so they can put pressure on At&t, help speed up the evolution of the technology and of course make some money in the process.
By next Christmas we'll be talking to each other just like The Jetsons used to do. - QsheiK, on 04/04/2009, -0/+8To those who say it drains more battery, my old Ericsson K800i begs to differ.
That thing was a camera first before it was a phone and had full camera features, and the battery still lasted really long. - DoodleMaster, on 04/04/2009, -1/+9Then turn it off dumb ass.
"DERR HEER LOOK AT ME I SAID GAY"
***** wad. - coldeh, on 04/04/2009, -0/+8Surely the 3.2 is for the front facing camera and 5mp is for the back?
- epyon180, on 04/04/2009, -0/+7LOL, a joke about Apple's high prices on digg. I have never seen that before, good job dude your very funny!
- anexanhume, on 04/04/2009, -1/+8I like the part where the title and description completely disagree with each other.
- james188foster, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6Crap Optics + 5MP CMOS = Crap pictures.
- alpha88, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6Alternatively:
Oh, yeah I still have some ***** Motorola from 1992, and a 1st gen iPod shuffle cause I'm waiting for the next iPhone... or maybe the one after that... or maybe the one after that... - mgill3, on 04/04/2009, -2/+8Some people will find anything to bitch about, simply because it's Apple.
The Anti-Apple fanboys are wayyy worse than the Apple "fanboys," aka people who enjoy using good products. - JYoungest1, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6Its a hard line to walk...buy now or wait a couple of months. Its still ***** awesome how everything seemingly gets better though. What dynamic times we live in.
- mgill3, on 04/04/2009, -0/+5Hopefully they'll upgrade the whole camera, and not just add more megapixels. I think it's about time Apple step up to the higher quality cameras.
Other companies have had much better camera's for a little while now, I want a better one in my iPhone!
I'd even be satisfied with like, 3MP and a good lens, etc. At least that way the pictures can be of a more usable size without being distorted. - JYoungest1, on 04/04/2009, -6/+10God technology evolution sucks as much as it rocks. Hey dudes check out my 3G iphone, oh wait they have 3G MARK IV iPhones out with super zoom 14 mega-pixel cameras now? It has an iVagina? Oh, my iPhone sucks already....I guess im not going to eat for a couple of months to get the new one.
Rinse and repeat. - georgetds, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4As opposed to all the other companies that don't mark-up their products at all.
- Myonosken, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4My Ericsson k800i is a POS and has a really good flash....
- alpha88, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4@fridge: It wasn't sarcasm, the alternative to having your technology outdated quickly is to wait for the next one, but if you're always waiting for the next one, you never upgrade.
- jer2eydevil88, on 04/04/2009, -1/+5I call *****. Apple can make anything pretty.
Even the Palm Pre (a product coming from a nearly bankrupted company) is going to have a stylish design and a flash. - ahughes, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4Megapixels do matter, to a point. It's the same as the CPU MHz wars. Once it got well into the GHz range, it didn't matter anymore. Now we are into the Core wars, which will eventually reach a point where it doesn't matter anymore. MP became largely irrelevant once we surpassed the 8MB range.
As far as the camera in the iPhone is concerned, I'll be more interested in the features of that camera (flash, auto-zoom, video capabilities, etc). - XeroXenith, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4Yes. However, Crysis is still problematic.
- chkdg8, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4I just hope Apple doesn't tier out different models via À la carte. Whether it's 3.2 or 5MP (hopefully 5), that should be across the board for both their 8, 16 and hopefully a new 32GB models.
- feliks2, on 04/04/2009, -4/+8No, I think its main purpose is to be a toy.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -3/+6Maybe a phone with an actual lenses that pops out from its body.
- alpha88, on 04/04/2009, -1/+4Why would the camera be for a netbook? They'll use the same iSight they always do.
- Myonosken, on 04/04/2009, -1/+4@gutistg: My god you're a self righteous prick. So, how exactly do I take pictures in a dark room if I AM NOT ALLOWED TO USE FLASH?
I'll repeat it again: Self righteous prick. - Matthews255, on 04/04/2009, -3/+6if the camera works and the user gets along with it why upgrade?? I tested a D80 at a gig shoot last week, I wish i had stuck to my Canon 300D!! Faster autofocus and i dont have to use ISO1000!
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2Please give me a focus! Ill even control it manually, but for the love of god, let me photograph something that isnt 12 to 78 inches away from my nose.
- mgill3, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2I would *hope* they would upgrade the lens as well.
- jodhas, on 04/04/2009, -2/+4I'm tired of Iphones...
