- Mudger, on 11/05/2007, -11/+266Apple, don't be a douche.
- ghaltmann, on 11/05/2007, -14/+180But apple is an innovative and differently thinking company. They would never do anything wrong.
- ferrariman60, on 11/05/2007, -8/+170Wow, when a company gets to the point where they won't accept cash- that's money, people- something, somewhere, has gone horribly wrong. If I ever own a company, cash will always be welcome. Always. Time for a reality check, guys. You've already signed a deal with AT&T, so sell your own stuff!
- john570, on 11/05/2007, -21/+157Perhaps Apple just sucks.
- mfearby, on 11/05/2007, -10/+133It damn well should! Apple have become even more arrogant than I thought possible. Somehow, Microsoft just doesn't seem so bad any more...
- pennyfan87, on 11/05/2007, -7/+116Does that violate any terms of the gift card?
- streak, on 10/31/2007, -15/+107Perhaps Apple wants to make sure buyers have a credit card with which to charge the substantial monthly service fees, as well as some potential means of auditing or tracking the customer in case the the iPhone is never activated on AT&T?
- AriaStar, on 10/31/2007, -9/+89Unless these cards specifically say that they can not be used for an iPhone, then changing the terms of their acceptance is illegal and opens them up for lawsuits. The no-cash policy is stupid enough, but to not accept their cards issued before this announcement is illegal. If they sell something to a customer under the belief that it can be exchaged for anything in the store, and then decide AFTERWARD to not abide by their end, well, I'm sorry, but I hope someone sues. Either that, or Apple had better start giving cash back on all gift cards people try to use for an iPhone.
- steveoco, on 11/05/2007, -5/+77It has been fun watching peoples attitudes of Apple change in the last 6 months. What was blind fanboyism has turned to open eyed consumer criticism... and rightly so!
- hamobu, on 10/30/2007, -16/+73Apple is the worse corporate douche bag than Microsoft. I have hated Apple and AOL for scamming and overcharging customers since early 90's.
- nazadus, on 11/05/2007, -5/+59I was noting to someone yesterday how much Apple is turning in to Microsoft since their iPods have gotten popular.
Looks how much BS you get when you install iTunes or Quicktime. It's almost as if.. they are wanting to abuse their position. - hamobu, on 10/31/2007, -7/+59How Orwellian!
- thefirelane, on 11/05/2007, -4/+55They are thinking different, most places accept cash
- flangle, on 11/05/2007, -6/+56I guess "Success" makes ***** of us all.
- slamtv7, on 11/05/2007, -2/+46So cash = dishonest customer... I see..
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -9/+50apple < microsoft
- smacksaw, on 10/31/2007, -7/+47Well, you can get AMEX, VISA and MC gift cards that work just like real credit cards. I don't see how someone buying those and then using them stops Apple from doing this at all. They simply screw the honest consumer with an Apple-only gift card or people who can't get a credit card.
- 0xFEEDFACE, on 10/29/2007, -5/+45I'd be willing to bet that there's some fine print saying something to the effect of: "Apple Inc. reserves the right to refuse this card for any reason."
- Slacker1031, on 10/31/2007, -4/+42Now they're too good for actual money too? soon enough the apple store is just gonna be four blank walls with associates who refuse to give you the time of day, just for the sake of being ***** hip.
- kunfu, on 11/05/2007, -7/+45WOW Apple, your fan-boys are making you cocky. You do remember you only have 8% of the computer market....right?
- Jonjonr6, on 10/30/2007, -5/+37Too late.
- catfish182, on 11/05/2007, -9/+41Where are the apple fanboys now?
How great is the Mac?
How wonderful is Apple and Jobs now?
Apple can do what they want for 2 reasons. 1- people believe their ***** for so long Apple is starting to think they are cool. 2- its thier ***** and they can sell it how they like. Here is a thought, dont buy it. Dont buy it and see how they change thier Itune then.
sorry for the spam but here is further proof the Iphone sucks Icock
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=ip ... - 80hd, on 10/31/2007, -1/+32Just use a visa gift card. You can get them at many malls.
- redrock34, on 10/29/2007, -3/+32Apple is too controlling over their products. That's why Verizon Wireless turned them down.
- aarona, on 10/31/2007, -3/+31Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Except that:
"The right, in many jurisdictions, of a trader to refuse to do business with any person means a purchaser cannot demand to make a purchase, and so declaring a legal tender other than for debts would not be effective."
IE: Just because you have a right to use that cash to pay me for my item doesn't mean I have to sell you said item.
I know a bunch of folks are going to say it here, but seriously. Come on guys. Even MICROSOFT doesn't refuse cash to buy their products. Can we get over the whole "Apple as a benevolent friend of the people" thing now? - roxics, on 10/29/2007, -4/+32Here's a great idea, don't buy an iPhone. I really like the iPhone and used to own one. But Apple has gone too far.
- souljaboytellem, on 10/29/2007, -3/+29When you name your company after a fruit...well, there you have it
- HolyChimp, on 10/29/2007, -4/+30Not to mention some equally small print that says "Apple reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time, without warning"
- ghaerdon, on 10/29/2007, -10/+35I have recently become a big Mac fan and have always loved the iPod, but does Steve Jobs really understand how this looks to the internet public? The power of Digg is much larger than a TV hate campaign by the MS folks... if Apple isn't careful all this negative publicity is going to turn potential switchers who read DIGG for opinions. This type of pettiness, no matter what sense behind it, will result in lost sales.
- spyd3rweb, on 10/29/2007, -6/+30Only for an existing debt, they can refuse to sell you anything for any reason.
- smoger, on 10/29/2007, -4/+28"TV hate campaign by the MS folks"?? What are you referring to? I've never seen a MS ad that references Apple whatsoever, and on the other side of the aisle, Apples ENTIRE advertising strategy is based on embellished stories, half truths, and sometimes outright lies about Windows and PC's in general.
- roxics, on 10/29/2007, -1/+23Yeah but that fact that you even have to go through that trouble to get one is ridiculous. They are making you the customer (the one who is supposed to hold the power) jump through hoops to buy their product. That's not right. People need to stop and think about this. Then protest it by not buying. 50 years ago people wouldn't have put up with this kind of ***** from a corporation.
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/29/2007, -3/+25Possibly, but I'd like to see any company get challenged in court for refusing a gift card. The company has received their money, so they are obligated to give the consumer the product they desire to the value of that amount.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/30/2007, -2/+23Fun thinking. The real reason is:
1) Prevent the sale of unlocked iPhones- by limiting the number of phones a credit card can purchase, Apple is making it a pain in the ass for unlockers to buy dozens of the devices and ebay/sell them.
2) Prevent artificial Christmas shortages - stop jerks from buying all the iPhones and selling them at several times what they are worth. Apple doesn't get paid more, but this impacts Apples ability to sell profitable add ons to the customers at the time of sale, and is probably something Apple doesn't want on its image.(Apple enjoys promoting flawless management and ease of shopper experience) - dotorg, on 10/29/2007, -4/+24This really isn't hard... buy pre-paid VISA, Amex or Mastercard with cash. Use that to buy the phone for cash.
Apple is hurting their customers and not helping the problem they're trying to avoid (the buying of iPhones for markets where they don't get kickbacks). They can't refuse pre-paid credit cards because doing so would be a violation of their merchant agreements with their processors as well as VISA and Mastercard. This is unlike not accepting cash, which is perfectly legal. Apple won't risk their ability to take credit cards... (and if anyone thinks for a second Apple has the clout to take on Visa/MC... think again!) - AJH16, on 10/29/2007, -1/+20Wait, you bought yours?
- TTURabble, on 10/29/2007, -0/+18Except for the fact that it no where during the iPhone purchase or anywhere on the box for that matter does it say that an AT&T contract is required. The only Legal Jargon during the point of sale is on the box and say something to this effect, "A contract with AT&T is required for full functionality of the phone" Which is a lot different than "2 year contract with AT&T is required with purchase of iPhone"
also, its about time everyone saw that Apple is as bad (if not worse) than Microsoft in the means they will go to screw over loyal customers (and long term profits) in the pursuit of short term profits. - Spankov, on 10/29/2007, -6/+24Apple apologist...
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -2/+19They also need to start refusing to accept credit cards as well. If I'm determined to buy an iphone with cash, hence not giving Apple a foot hold on my credit card information, then I would just buy a prepaid MasterCard and use that as payment.
Apple seems to be becoming the truly evil empire that people always thought Microsoft was. - parliboy, on 10/29/2007, -0/+17From the Apple Gift Card FAQs at http://www.apple.com/go/giftcards/faqs.html
What products can I purchase using an Apple Gift Card?
You can purchase just about anything sold by Apple (except another Apple Gift Card, an iTunes Gift Certificate or purchases at the iTunes Music Store), including products from both Apple and third-party makers.
While it's not terms, per se, it's certainly advertising. I hear that the New York AG has been making deceptive advertising a pet peeve lately. - haloguy628, on 10/30/2007, -12/+29Steve Jobs is mini Hitler with ego equaling the size of Zeppelin airship. I only hope that Apple becomes more successful at market penetration so hackers will start to target OsX. Then all the propaganda of Apple product superiority will crumble. As a bonus we'll get the meltdown of Steve and revelation of his true nature and intentions.
BTW, It's only ironic that Gates was villanized for years when in reality it is Jobs that seeks control in name of absolute profits on unreasonably large profit margins. - monsterofNone, on 10/29/2007, -3/+20yes... cuz communists are all about securing their profits.
- grawk, on 10/29/2007, -5/+22Only if you're the government.
- Flappy3, on 11/05/2007, -8/+25http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_tender
- hamobu, on 10/29/2007, -2/+18The information about the product goes beyond the sticker price. Like when they hobble their crappy software so that it will only work on their crappy hardware and then they mention it in a commercial like it is a feature (Mac will run Windows, while PC cannot run OSX)
Or like when you buy iPod, and install software, and software then proceeds to convert all your MP3s to its crappy proprietary format.
Apple is a crappy company that always seeks to lock you in and charge you as much as it can. - spyd3rweb, on 10/29/2007, -0/+16The scam occurs with the warranties and repair charges, specifically referring to ipods.
- noisician, on 10/29/2007, -3/+19maybe because there are things in the world beyond Apple products?
- JAVandiver, on 10/29/2007, -2/+18Apple: "We make products for retards."
- pigfister, on 10/30/2007, -10/+26wow get ready for the chip implant so the central banks can make sure every penny is taxed and accounted for!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuBo4E77ZXo - Aggaman, on 10/29/2007, -2/+18There's something really weird here. Is Apple losing a ton of money on iPhones that aren't activated with AT&T (like in kickbacks). That's all I can think of for this absurd behaviour.
Where are all the Apple employees on Digg to spill the beans. -
