- farfromhere, on 01/14/2009, -4/+44Using the vibrator too much, eh?
- Nouman6, on 01/14/2009, -9/+29Now just bring back firewire and I'll buy one ;)
- Scott2, on 01/14/2009, -2/+22DisplayPort makes HDMI look slow and outdated.
- akaCHUCKTAYLORR, on 01/14/2009, -8/+27the DisplayPort refresh will also permit... as many as four 1920x1200 displays
imagine running a swordfish-esque monitor setup off of a mac mini. awesome - drhouse, on 01/14/2009, -13/+32After my iPhone's vibrate switch broke and Apple gave me a brand new one on the spot at the Genius bar, I decided to seriously consider a Mac as my next computer ... this may have sealed the deal for me
- RogerMcDodger, on 01/14/2009, -4/+15Well that depends what you are doing on that resolution. A Mac mini can power a 1920x1200 display now, but you aren't going to be running things like Motion, Maya or running any 3D games.
- madmaxmedia, on 01/14/2009, -2/+13The mini connector is going to be a standard so cables will be widely available, but only Apple will be allowed to sell white ones.

"Firewire is slower than USB2"
You clearly don't understand the difference between the two. - nicc, on 01/14/2009, -2/+11they removed Firewire only from the MacBook.
it's still available on all other systems Apples makes/sells (except for the Air, but it was never on the Air to begin with). - migitalwarfare, on 01/14/2009, -3/+12Just as we are all humbled by your blind adherence to the idea that brand choice determines intelligence.
- srg13, on 01/14/2009, -2/+11Are you an idiot? HDCP is standard on pretty much all new graphics cards... And HDMI uses it as well.
- BossKey, on 01/14/2009, -0/+9Everybody's moving to DisplayPort. You can get it on Dells and others right now. You're right that nobody's using it right now, but given the desirable advantages of the technology, that's like saying "But nobody has an optical drive!" in 1991 or "nobody uses LCDs!" in 2000.
- bpm2000, on 01/14/2009, -0/+8because neo never had to hack into anything while getting a blowjob of death.
- jeffsters, on 01/14/2009, -2/+10That's what they said about USB when Apple adopted it. Of course some PCs had a USB port but no one used them.
- fahrvergnuugen, on 01/14/2009, -2/+10I refuse to buy USB only hard drives, but I ran into a situation yesterday at work where I had to copy 500GB of data from one USB2 drive to another USB2 drive...it took over 8 hours and made the fans run on high from the CPU usage.
USB2 shouldn't even be an option on a drive that big - Imagine if it was a 1TB or 1.5TB disk. - MacParrot, on 01/14/2009, -1/+9Well it was right next to a case of beer and it just vanished!
- MacParrot, on 01/14/2009, -0/+8OK...OK Mea Culpa!
- MacParrot, on 01/14/2009, -3/+11WHAT!?! No floppy drive? There's no way that the iMac as a brand will sell millions of units and last over a decade!
- honorablesauce, on 01/14/2009, -3/+11You mean like HDMI does?
Seriously, dude get a grip. - Linh, on 01/14/2009, -2/+9uh.. blu-ray is an option on a lot of laptops... but buy no means is it a standard on most laptops.
but yes, it's strange apple hasn't endorsed it yet. it is most likely them not wanting to pay the royalties. - MacParrot, on 01/14/2009, -16/+23I seriously doubt that any Mac mini will have the balls to run a single 1920 X 1200 display much less four
- ZeroSum1975, on 01/14/2009, -2/+9Why would they? Blu-Ray is for watching movies. Why would Apple promote that when you can just easily download HD movies from iTunes and watch them on your HD-TV. I know the quality of blu-ray and extra features etc.. But really, it's not that big a deal and the quality of the picture is much more than fine from iTunes
- maximatron, on 01/14/2009, -2/+9No.
- zakatov, on 01/14/2009, -5/+12I guess you're not a fan of these things called laptops, netbooks or smartphones either. They're also just smaller versions of full-sized parts and people seem impressed when they get smaller and smaller.
- nicc, on 01/14/2009, -6/+12you are absolutely right.
there is no way my G4 Mini runs the 24" widescreen LCD that is currently hooked up to it @ 1920x1200...oh wait.
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP65
"Video - DVI video output for digital resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 pixels; supports 20-inch Apple Cinema display and 23-inch Apple Cinema HD display; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports non-coherent digital displays up to 135MHz" - milkmage, on 01/14/2009, -2/+8oh really? show me the HDMI connetctor that supports dual 30" displays (single connector) or up to FOUR 24" inch displays (single connector)
yeah. didn't think so. - Urkel, on 01/14/2009, -0/+6The article is about the mini-connector that requires Apples adapter. So the big story here is that the DisplayPort monitor that you currently use on your Dell for free, can also be used on your Macbook for the low low price of $30.
- colincornaby, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5HDCP also exists on DVI. It's just that Apple never implemented it on their DVI displays.
- MacParrot, on 01/14/2009, -2/+7What part of "new" standard did you not get?
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/14/2009, -2/+7an amazing ability considering their market share.
- haikuFU, on 01/14/2009, -0/+5It's firewire 800 on the MBP now. I just switched all of my external drives from firewire to USB. I got sick of having the firewire ones only work on some machines.
- InorganicMatter, on 01/14/2009, -4/+9Running a desktop is hardly taxing on resources. Gaming on 4 screens? Yeah, the best NVIDIA SLI setup out there couldn't pull that off. Browsing the internet? Easy.
- FredFredrickson, on 01/14/2009, -2/+6Because you wanted to buy a new monitor too, or what?
- fahrvergnuugen, on 01/14/2009, -1/+5Except FireWire isn't dying. USB3 has been announce, but so has FireWire 1600 & 3200. With the ever increasing size of disks, extremely fast interconnects are becoming more and more necessary.
FireWire won't die, so long as there is professional equipment out there that requires dedicated bandwidth. The performance of USB is bound to the CPU by design. - sinembarg0, on 01/14/2009, -0/+4No, you're wrong. DVI can handle up to 1920x1200 via single link. This is also many 27 inch monitors native res. DisplayPort can handle much higher, and with a proper displayport panel (Dell 3008WFP), you wouldn't need the DVI adapter either, just a minidispalyport to displayport adapter or cable.
- nicc, on 01/14/2009, -1/+5I have more external hard drives that run Firewire than I do computers.
- drlha, on 01/14/2009, -1/+5Really? You hang out on Digg and hadn't heard the Macbook doesn't have a Firewire port? I find that hard to believe.
- Johnglave, on 01/14/2009, -2/+6My Dell 2408WFP monitor has a display port, hopefully my next computer will make use of it!
- MtheoryX, on 01/14/2009, -0/+3@jakem1:
From what I've seen, having a VGA port on a laptop is an exception, rather than the rule. It's an old tech that's moving out quickly. - colincornaby, on 01/14/2009, -1/+4HDMI isn't dual link, making it unable to handle a 30" Cinema Display or ultra high resolutions.
- MtheoryX, on 01/14/2009, -1/+4You seem to be so clueless...
You're being dugg down because you imply that the DRM with DisplayPort is somehow unique. To other people then called you out on your error, and you still don't get it. - MacParrot, on 01/14/2009, -1/+4Admitting an error is not something alanr does very well. OTOH, calling people ***** for disagreeing with him he does very well.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3Yes, just like we never switched from VGA to DVI
- Zippo, on 01/14/2009, -3/+6Well, considering that Mini DisplayPort is now becomming part of the VESA standard for DisplayPort, your argument is moot. VESA will handle licensing after adoption.
Not to mention the fact that you have no idea what you're talking about to begin with. - 44Bigs, on 01/14/2009, -0/+3Well don't rush it.. for the time being there's no mini-Displayport to regular Display port cable yet. This makes the connector on the new Macbooks practically useless. They might as well have put a regular DVI or HDMI interface on there.
- braudio, on 01/14/2009, -2/+5I must have missed this. New MacBook's and MacBook Pro's don't come with a Firewire port now? Not even an option?
- sleepyness, on 01/14/2009, -3/+6Firewire never left.
- FredFredrickson, on 01/14/2009, -1/+4MOAR!
- nkassi, on 01/14/2009, -2/+4Must admit, that normally this wouldn't be a big deal but the dvi ports are huge, hdmi is better but this is perfect for the new super thins.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2pros need it to author content.
