- Bronstone, on 10/12/2007, -16/+63Don't rush it like iTS 7.0.
- KillerX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44Not one problem with iTunes 7 installed on 8 Macs.
- swaxhog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Here's my scoop.
EXCLUSIVE: Looprumors is trolling for hits - jon61575, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30I had no issues with iTunes 7 on two macs. They probably rushed the Windows version.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29I have used iTunes 7 extensively from the minute it was available for download and had no issues on my intel iMac at all.
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I was totally excited to see this headline and looked for the link to Appleinsider or Thinksecret or even Engadget, and then I noticed the link led to Looprumors. Great.
Well, it was a nice idea, anyway. - slowness, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/index.html
: ) - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21"Don't rush it like iTS 7.0."
iTunes 7.0 was rushed, you have a point there, but Leopard has been in development for some time now. Kinda like Vista, except not as long. - AssProphet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17http://*****.com/
- dramatools, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Well, if they pull it off, Apple will have released FIVE generations of OS X in the time Microsoft's taken to kick Vista out the door.
- knowall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14 have to object to looprumors again, I really don't think they've posted a real rumor that's been right
Posted in May: http://looprumors.com/LoopBlackPopup.php?mac-pro-information
and made it to the digg front page: http://digg.com/apple/Apple_s_Mac_Pro_Coming_With_Quad_Processors_and_New_Displays
"Reliable sources also tell us that the Mac Pro will see a new case design, alongside new displays, with iSight built-in and an infrared receiver for Front Row remote control. According to our information, the case design should remain in the same silver as current models, an unconfirmed report suggests an illuminated Apple logo on the rear of the display to match the current MacBook family." - krakelohm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I think the idea would be to steal some of Vista's thunder.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You know, I can't help but feel the internet is building itself up for another disappointment with these 'top secret' features. All that was said is there's some stuff that they didn't want to show yet. People are going to expect some life-changing, impossible feats of software engineering because they mentioned there was something more to come, and be completely disappointed when it turns out to be some useful but minor addition.
- daGUY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Doubt it - LoopRumors is extremely unreliable. Plus, the Leopard beta (including the most recent one that was just seeded) doesn't even have any of those "top secret" features present yet. If they DO release it at MacWorld, it'll be extremely rushed and buggy.
My prediction is they'll preview it again at MacWorld, this time with the "top secret" features, and release it sometime around March/April (April would put it exactly 2 years after Tiger, which seems about right). - ApplePenguin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Ramble: When do you think Tiger's features were decided on? Surely before Tiger came out...
- alphaone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I use both WinXPPro and OSX, both with iTunes 7. The iTunes 7 bugs (scratchy noise, or increased speed playback) are real bugs, but only in the Windows version. It isn't an issue on Windows with IE + iTunes alone, it's happened to me whenever I run a few programs that spend a bit of RAM.
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11No problems on a mac...then again windows always has issues...
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@geoken: The differences between 10.1 -> 10.2, 10.2 -> 10.3 and 10.3 -> 10.4 were each much more obvious to the user than Win2K -> XP, and are fairly similar to the difference between XP and Vista. New developer APIs, user interface changes, considerable new features, etc. But if it makes you feel better thinking that because the revision number only changed by a point, that they weren't major updates, then you can go on believing that. As a developer whose apps broke with many of those updates, I can safely say that they were fairly major.
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9To beat Microsoft to the punch? What punch are we talking about with a 4% market share?
- Sonic84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7at this rate the PS3 will beat vista!
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17@fanboydcs: Dude, come down off your high horse. It wasn't a vocal minority moaning about trivial issues. It was serious, genuine problems.
I couldn't use IE6 with iTunes 7 (not that I use IE that much) because half the time I'd click a link and it would make the music go all scratchy and busted, until I clicked the back button or restarted iTunes. I'm serious. What I did in Internet Explorer ***** up the music coming out of iTunes. That's a pretty ***** weird and serious bug. - OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't know why you got dug down, I was thinking the same thing.
Wasn't Tiger a response to Longhorn, which was sort of the abandoned precursor to Vista? In my mind Apple already beat Vista, I guess that another OSX release will just make sure that Apple stays out in front. or they just want us all to pay another $130 again. - OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8@flag564
"And it's telling how mac users who have problems are "whiny". "
You realize itunes is available for Windows too. I think most iPod users are also Windows users. And the complaints I have seen were from the PC version of iTunes, which has been kind of flakey for me since the update too. (I don't have a blog to whine about it on, also I have much better things to whine about) - serpicolugnut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Looprumors can suck it. They make ***** up just to get traffic. Leopard will not be out at MWSF2007. I will most definitely be demoed, and a release date **might** be announced there, but it will not be released. As a developer who has seen the state of the OS, I can tell you it is not nearly ready. A Jan release would mean they would have to go GM in early Dec (a bit earlier than normal thanks to the Holidays). The OS just isn't ready to ship that early.
Plus, Apple has known what Vista's release date would be for about 3-4 months now. If they were planning on beating Vista out the door, they would have announced it at WWDC. They didn't. Matter of fact, many of the Apple folk I talked to at WWDC speculated that the spring release date was intentionally after Vista shipped, so Apple would have more of the spotlight to themselves, and look better in the inevitable comparisons to Vista.
As I've stated before, the Looprumors guys track record is ridiculous. They quite literally just make ***** up. - OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the logical reason is Apple wants to attract people to their platform and sell more hardware. There can't be as many "switchers" if Vista blows OSX out of the water.
Apple competes with Microsoft and Dell at the same time. - catmistake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+74 geoken:
OS X has never needed or released "patch" in any of its iterations. Security Updates in the Apple world do not equate to patches in the M$ world. Also, each version of OS X is a BSD based OS in its own right... puma ≠ cheetah ≠ jaguar ≠ panther ≠ tiger ≠ leapard. Its not simply a matter of adding a few "apps." - branmuffins, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Honestly, didnt Apple beat Microsoft when it released Tiger. I know they keep updating exactly what Vsta is going to do, but it seems to me OS X is already comparable to Vista or maybe Ive missed soemthing.
- JoshuaGross, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, instead, they've only released FOUR. What wankers.
- Stecchino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Articles and rumors like this, true or not, only set people up for disappointment especially when they seem as unlikely as this. Apple hasn't even shown their "top-secret" features yet. Like he said, another more thorough preview in January, not the release.
- smeager, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@geoken
Have a look here for a comparison:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/compare.html - Stecchino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You know it. Most of the rumors from these "up and coming" rumor sites are total 100% crap.
- djjuice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i seriously doubt this, there has been only 1 build seeded to the ADC (Apple Developer Connection) since the WWDC. With Tiger there was at least 5 or more. Apple is in no rush.
- baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4saving my pennies for a new MacBook now :)
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So why don't you enlighten us rather than bieng an ass.
- pidge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I've had alot of problems with iTunes 7....well actually one problem but a big one. Since updating to iTunes 7, it keeps randomly deleting some of my Podcasts. I've reformatted my iPod, and uninstalled and reinstalled IT7. THe other day, it also deleted some MP3's from my PC. This is getting bad. Never had this problem with previous iTunes versions. I sure hope they don't rush Leaopard like they did iTunes 7 as well. BTW, I am using Windows Media Center 2005.
- AssProphet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@bpapa
"macworld 2007 opens" + google = answer in the first result's summary. Maybe you feel sorry for him, but asking a question like that has no merit, and econoar deserved the reaction he got.
For those of you who are still too lazy:
January 8-12, 2007 - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Uh...how are Vista and Mac OSx competing exactly???
If you could run Mac OSx on a standard PC then THAT would be competition, but when you have to buy and entirely different computer just to run an OS that is NOT competition. - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Leopard has nothing that Vista will not have."
Really?
Does MS have an answer to this?
http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/coreanimation.html
You really need to broaden your horizons. I'd tell you all about Quartz Composer, but I think you'd have a tough time trying to get your pointy little head around it.

- darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Tiger already stole Vista's thunder.
- kevine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ideally, the best time to launch would be sometime after Vista is released. Nobody on the fence is going to switch to OS X if it's release just before Vista, they'll wait for Vista. On the other hand, when Vista comes out, and people aren't happy with upgrading to it, a bright new shiny Mac with 10.5 might look more attractive.
Plus, at MacWorld, we can expect iLife '07 and iWork '07 plus iTV and other consumer related stuff.
They're still adding *features* to 10.5, and I hope they continue to do so instead of rushing it to "beat" Microsoft (with no reward for doing so). - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Have some patience Apple... Just wait for Vista to have its first major security hole and then release 10.5 when there's a lot of consumers who are fed up and looking for an alternative.
- donte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For those of you blaming Windows for iTunes 7.0 sucking so bad, it's up to the software developer to ensure your program works on the platform... not the reverse.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@matperk: Out of curiosity, what problems did you have w/ your MBP? I also bought mine the day after they were announced (2GHz, 256MB vid card, 120GB hd), and it's been the best computer I've ever used. Extremely quiet, fast, and excellent build quality and design. My only issue is that the computer will emit a slight buzzing sound and the screen will flicker slightly when the screen is not at max brightness, and my batteries were recalled (still haven't gotten them replaced, though). Wasn't foolhardy enough to forego the 3-yr support, but not too bad for a rev. A after a huge transition...
- matperk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just because stuff is released ahead of schedule doesn't mean it's rushed out the door. It's like they did with the Intel transition--6 months early and while there were some hardware issues (I know because I own an MBP bought the day after it was released), it went very well considering they had to change over almost every piece of hardware inside the machine.
- xxdesmus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@geoken
He's a mac user, they never provide evidence. They just prefer to make silly comments and look ignorant.
He clearly has no idea what WPF or XAML are so instead he just decides to try and make fun of you. Typical mac fanboy behavior. - jlunski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree, what's the rush? Apples (pun not originally intended) and oranges as far as I'm concerned, other than "bragging rights" as to which OS brought which features to market first Leopard and Vista are targeted to two different markets.
