"They'll be back... They always come back."
The man would probably be less arrogant if he were right less frequently. - birdman14, on 09/09/2008, -8/+96$1.99 is nice, but megaupload is even nicer.
- PunkRampant, on 09/09/2008, -0/+61Just found out you can hide the Genius sidebar by pressing a button in the bottom right.
- jiaoziren, on 09/10/2008, -4/+61iTunes is getting bigger and slower...I don't like that.
- PunkRampant, on 09/09/2008, -7/+59Genius is way cooler than I expected. It's like Pandora for your library. The only problem is that you constantly have a sidebar telling you to buy new music.
- JerodSlay, on 09/10/2008, -1/+41I'm downloading the Office S04E01*02 in HD for free right now.
- wilkinnh, on 09/09/2008, -2/+38HELL YES for the office coming back, in HD no less
- kurtwinter, on 09/10/2008, -0/+32 I still don't see the appeal in a $1.99 per episode television subscription. 24 episodes x $1.99 = $48 which is then obsoleted by the DVD for the season, which is often (but not always) less than $48.
- crossDborder731, on 09/10/2008, -3/+30How about The Pirate Bay?
- Darkstarfinn, on 09/09/2008, -3/+28i'm kinda excited for the new visualizer it has.... even though i dont even use those.... it just looks sick
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -1/+25For $1.99 an episode they better mail me the dvd when the season's over.
- Whaines, on 09/10/2008, -2/+22How about Hulu? NBC actually puts up their shows the day after it's released, FREE!
- IndigoMoss, on 09/10/2008, -1/+20You won't want it if it's anything like the Windows port. Just tried iTunes 8 to see if they improved it any. Needless to say, they did not.
- dorkus999, on 09/10/2008, -1/+20You have obviously never been to a strip club.
- Wetzilla, on 09/10/2008, -1/+20The Daily Show won't be in HD, as it isn't filmed in HD.
- jerrasis, on 09/10/2008, -2/+18It's usable enough to digg you down.
- Dejital, on 09/10/2008, -1/+17Somehow I wouldn't be surprised that if the pricing was $3.50, you'd be posting a very similar comment saying that it should be $2.99 tops.
- deadbaby, on 09/10/2008, -1/+15Well, you don't have to wait for the DVD to come out. You can watch the episodes shortly after they have first run. You get the files in a digital format which can easily be transferred to an iPod or AppleTV without any extra steps. Also, your math is flawed because the season passes are discounted. You're not paying $2/ep if you buy the whole season.
- stigma15, on 09/10/2008, -1/+14HD shows are nice, but a 30 min show sans commercials and credits means $3.00 for 20 minutes of entertainment. That's pretty steep.
- roebeet, on 09/10/2008, -0/+12It's called "Instant Gratification".
- ctenn2ls, on 09/10/2008, -2/+14Demonoid is much nicer. A lot less viruses or fake posts.
- sroop, on 09/10/2008, -1/+12Depends on how big your music library is.
- dn11, on 09/10/2008, -0/+9this version feels faster to me (on OS X)... yeah sucks to use iTunes on Windows. But Winamp already has more features. And Winamp IS NOT bloated - ever bit and piece can be uninstalled and/or disabled.
- Cyona, on 09/10/2008, -0/+9Keynote.
- MurphyMac, on 09/10/2008, -4/+12I tried downloading the shows NBC is offering for free. They go to my cart but say UNAVAILABLE.
- Soave, on 09/10/2008, -2/+10I dislike the new iTunes even more than iTunes 7. Well, for Windows at least. They removed a bunch of preferences (I can't remove the arrow "to store" links next to songs, I can't remove the Genres column when Browsing, I haven't found the CD burning preferences), and everytime I click on iTunes in the taskbar (in Vista), the text is all black for about a second before displaying anything.
Is it easy to downgrade back to 7 without uninstalling everything/ruining my library? - NathanMahdavi, on 09/10/2008, -0/+8My dick's bigger, no MY dick's bigger, NO MY DICK'S BIGGER!
- mrsteveman1, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7The Windows port is a bad one, seems like instead of actually porting the app, they ported a bunch of OS X frameworks and sat them on top of Win32, and this is what came out. It's a slow, horrible app that "just works" and nothing more.
- thedragon4453, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7I know this isn't an NBC show, but House Season 4 just came out and the DVD set is $45. There's only 16 episodes in this "season" since it was cut off for the writer's strike. That's what it usually costs for the full 24 episode season. That's 2.80 per episode. So $2 doesn't seem so bad.
- davecachia, on 09/10/2008, -1/+8But those can cost money :(
- Elranzer, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7Small penis.
- rockhell, on 09/10/2008, -3/+10genius rocks
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -3/+10Seriously, WTF is with the memory hogging on Windows. Cool updates and all, but the 150K in idle is just ridiculous!
- Whaines, on 09/10/2008, -2/+8I would wager that they made it worse, considering plugging an iPhone or iPod Touch into a Vista machine with iTunes 8 causes a BSOD. Very interesting how Apple is the company that caused the first BSOD I've seen in Vista.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID ... - tidu, on 09/10/2008, -1/+7I am really surprised at Genius. it puts together some really moody playlists
- yonan32, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6Genius only works in countries with iTunes Music Store, and you have to have an account. I'm sticking with iLike sidebar.
- zombiecarlin, on 09/10/2008, -1/+7Steve Jobs looks like he has lost a lot of weight, time to put his health above his work and take a vacation.
- GB570, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5Because I own an ipod and its the only way to put music on it.
- theragu40, on 09/10/2008, -1/+6I would prefer if they put some effort into making itunes use less resources and open more quickly. It's got some nice features, but it's the slowest media player out there.
- Ocelot13, on 09/10/2008, -1/+6I heard it cures cancer.
- cyberdork, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5Get real, "today's customer" doesn't even know what DRM is. And you would be surprised how little average consumers care for high resolution videos, geez they don't even know that digital images are made from pixel, they don't even understand what a friggin' pixel is.
Don't know how many times I heard from friends they have this perfect DVD copy of a movie and then it turned out to be a horrendous Cam version. All people want is some moving colors, nice music and funny lines and they'll think it was the best thing they ever saw...
Diggers should realize that we are NOT the average consumer. And that's why corporations don't care much about our demands. - inferno10, on 09/10/2008, -1/+6Funny, the new visualizer works fine on my Core Duo Mac mini with a GMA950...
- DjOverEZ, on 09/10/2008, -5/+10***** A! For the last time, I don't want to install Safari!
- pimpdad82, on 09/10/2008, -4/+9I can't wait to pay 1.99 for something I can watch for free. How the hell did Apple get so powerful again? Oh yeah that's right, hippies who don't like Microsoft because they're "Evil".
- yonan32, on 09/10/2008, -1/+6wow iTunes 8 took over 200MB of my memory!
- Shorties, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5DRM free music is the same price as DRM'd music, and it used to be only 30 cents more before they changed it, it was never a whole dollar. Any other download service that offers HD TV shows offers it at a dollar more as well, (Look at the 360), what's cool about the iTunes HD (And something that I was surprised wasn't mentioned in today's keynote) is it gives you the SD and the HD version for the price of the HD version. (Because people are going to want to put those shows on their iPod and the iPods aren't capable of decoding an HD video).
- Dymphna, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Very easy to turn Genius off and never look at it, or use it only for playlist generation if you so choose.
For those of us who are always looking for new music, it's a welcome addition. For those of us that aren't, just don't use it. In fact, it's off by default. You actually have to go activate it if you want. - Chirp08, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Protip: you are not "today's customer"
You are a very small percentage of their userbase that actually knows wtf they are talking about. the average iTunes customer doesn't know the difference. - fugazied, on 09/10/2008, -2/+6I just played around with it, this really is a great feature. It will really shine when you are in the mood for a certain kind of music, but have no real preference for the artist. I did a genius pick of beatie boys and it made a great related hip hop playlist in about a second.
- Hanny26, on 09/10/2008, -3/+7My iPhone 3G is going to turn into a transformer that can slit my throat with the OS update on Friday, and kill me in my sleep. Apple is taking over the world.
