Apple is hiding iDisk storage upgrade, may be announced on MacWorld
bildr.no — I am pleased to tell that iDisk has gotten bigger storage, someone can confirm up to 60GB (paying for .mac, but not any extras) I have just uploaded a movie 3GIGs big, and I only have the regular membership, no extra space paid for! The upgrade is only visible in Windows, maybe Apple is trying to hide the upgrade, but no one can lie for Windows :P

- Sandtiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If true this would be a welcome upgrade.
- doce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Very fake. It shows the filesystem as FAT. iDisk is mounted via WebDAV/Web Folders, and wouldn't show any filesystem type, and especially not FAT.
I tried to confirm anyway; when connected to a Web Folder like iDisk, Windows does not provide any size, usage, or file system details. Definitely fake. - iching, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I recently bought iLife and got 3 month free prescription to .mac. I think that .mac works and integrates very well with iPhoto and iWeb, but I can't see paying for .mac later with such limited storage at their excessive price. If they up it to 30gigs then I think I might subscribe when my free prescription runs out..
I hope they do it without raising the price but I am not optimistic that this is a real story. - boredaghast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2prescription?
- iching, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@borde.....LOL
.I guess that was a Freudian slip on my drug addiction to apple - subscription vs prescription.
I might have to go to Canada now in order to get fair prices for my apple prescriptions....LOL

- warped, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3can anyone else confirm this? it could be a fake pic
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2True, like this one...? http://tinyurl.com/umztt
I guess the Netcraft rank of that site gives it some credibility though. It's not some runaway blog... - xGrape, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Its true its not some "runaway" blog, but its an image sharing site like flickr... does that give it more credibility? I think not.
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2True, like this one...? http://tinyurl.com/umztt
- magsy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I am about to publish a video of this on You Tube.
IT IS NOT FAKE!!! Windows is stupid and yes; Windows says that iDisk is FAT
Try it yourself!
Every .mac-user has gotten bigger storage on iDisk in Windows!- magsy1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Here is a video:

english much? - Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Ok dude you proved yourself.. The is sweet.. Thanks for posting this.
- lindmar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I have 500 mb on my mac.
Would be hilarious if you were charged for overages - 4answer2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I remember when .mac was free...
- Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5.Mac should be free. I would use it rather than Gmail.. I think
- missingdigits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is one real easy way to check if this is real. Give me us your public folder name and let's see if there is a file in thre over 4gig. Problem solved.
- magsy1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1...or you can all try it yourself (with a free .mac trail)
Go here to see that it's not fake:
http://digg.com/apple/30GIGs_iDisk_on_Macworld_Apple_is_upgrading_the_DOT_mac_iDisk_to_30GB- missingdigits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am not the one making this claim....I still have 2gig iDisk space.
It's up to the poster to prove his claim. Real easy to do if it is real, which it is not. - MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I tried this and it shows 7.78GB and that I am using 2GB or so. Even though I am really using 400 or so MB.
Like I have been saying in both threads, I will reserve judgment until Apple makes a real official announcement. - Samtherocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think its true... videos are good proof and my iDisk is showing 12.7GB on Windows whereas my Mac says 924MB. (I can also confirm that Windows thinks the format is FAT — which is not unlikely as that format can be read by and written to by both Windows and Mac OS X.)
- missingdigits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am not the one making this claim....I still have 2gig iDisk space.
- brianzimm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Check your free space availableon your main hard drive and it will match your .mac account free space available.
- magsy1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it doesn't match at all
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3your right on the money here brianzimm. Just checked your claim and yes, the Properties window within Parallels for my C drive (the parallels VM drive) shows..
used: 2.83GB
free: 4.95GB
capacity: 7.79GB
properties for the .mac drive.
used: 2.83GB
free: 4.95GB
capacity: 7.79GB
exactly the same. I am using the latest version of Parallels, and I am assuming that the original poster of this story is using the same.
magsy1, post a video of you getting the properties of your main parallels vm, C drive, and the properties of the iDisk at the same time, show both and the values.
UPDATE: I copied a file to my C drive VM and the iDisk size changed. Marking this post as inaccurate. - magsy1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh...
I see it now, you are right!
But I did managed to upload a HUGE file and then access it from Finder, then maybe it is only a bug...
:(
If it is, I'm sorry.
- JohnNY627, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Look for 10.5 to be released on Tuesday. They will try to make .mac a more compelling purchase for use with Time Machine.
- drcreek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Just what i thought. One thing we haven't seen from apple is a easy & cheap day storage solution for TM.
- coral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Alt For Norge!
- magsy1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0JESS!
- Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I think that .Mac could be like Gmail it could be free but have the ads in it. I think that the ads are nice. If me and my friend are looking for something or taking about some kind of computer part it gives me other options and even news sometimes. Apple could do VERY well with having .Mac free. Even the iDisk like Google has about 3 gig space. And you can use a firefox extension to upload files like an ftp server.
- adc86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where do they put the ads, though? About the last thing I want to be seeing are ads on my .Mac homepage-- much less in any of my Finder windows. I took great concern with the "Purchase spare battery" menu item in Leopard. If I want a spare battery I'll seek one out (or in this specific case, buy new cells and rebuild an old one).
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did this and it only shows 7.78GB. I then remounted the disk, and it changed to 8.5gb. It also says I am using WAY MORE storage than I know I am using (I am using around 400MB, it says I have used 2GB or so)
Not digging nor burring until Apple makes some sort of announcment. Otherwise this is just some weird bug on the windows side that no one had bothered to look at before. - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Apple is hiding iDisk storage upgrade, may be announced on MacWorld"
And it may not.
