- ZeeZee2k, on 01/06/2009, -7/+277It's nice but I'm gonna save my money for Macbook Wheel.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 01/06/2009, -10/+227No wonder Jobs didn't show.. they didn't have anything worth announcing.
- KSUdesigner, on 01/06/2009, -10/+219"Plus if it really lasts 1000 charges you will never need to replace it."
Seems to me that you'd need to replace it sometime after the 1000th charge, no? - hawksfan03, on 01/06/2009, -18/+209$2799? Maybe it's just me but that seems like a lot
- KevenM, on 01/06/2009, -14/+203anyone else disappointed by the Keynote? No new iMac, Mac Mini, iPhone, MacPro, tablet...
Nothin! - CoD4, on 01/06/2009, -15/+200$2700???
you could buy:
a pretty good LAPTOP
Nice HDTV
a PS3/360
an iphone/ipod touch
and still have money left over - cweave, on 01/06/2009, -35/+1947 hour battery life, 1000 charges. Hmm that comes out to 7,000 hours or 291 days of always being on. If you use your computer for 8 hours a day, the battery will last almost 3 years. People hate built in batteries from Apple, but when was the last time you needed to change your iPod battery?
- Emachine, on 01/06/2009, -4/+105Look a third USB port! The feature I've been waiting for.
- sidizzle, on 01/06/2009, -12/+102The new technology Apple has been working on for these internal batteries is amazing. I'm not a fan like most that its not removable, but honestly I never buy/use a second battery. Apple says these will last 5 years. If thats true then most people will have a new laptop by then. I'm sure one of the first things done to these is to take them apart and see how hard it would be to replace. I hope the rest of the industry will follow and do some serious research in battery technology, it's seriously lacking.
- Bauer22, on 01/06/2009, -91/+168Non user replaceable battery? I'll pass.
- daybreak, on 01/06/2009, -15/+84While netbooks are flying off the shelves...Apple still has no midrange laptop or tower or a new Mac Mini...So let's introduce a crippled, over-priced 17" laptop that nobody asked for :D
- Nephersir7, on 01/06/2009, -7/+70Anyone that will buy a nearly $3000 laptop doesnt care about its batteries going dead
- non00b, on 01/06/2009, -8/+64consumer stuff is cheap!
$2,700 could buy me a state of the art laptop or 1 nikon d700 DSLR camera with no lens. - Bauer22, on 01/06/2009, -5/+59Ok. Let's say I'm one of the pro users that Apple makes the MBPs for. Most pro users have an extra battery with them in the case that I'm not near an outlet. Now if Apple is being truthful with the 8 hours then that's not that bad but you and I both know it won't last that long unless you have it in the super energy saver mode (or whatever they want to call it.) Same goes with the 1000 charges.
The last MacBook Pro was about an inch think. I never looked at one of them and said "Wow. I'd buy one of these if they were thinner." because it's not really a problem. Practicality is always over design in my book. - garryw, on 01/06/2009, -12/+66but would you fit in with the iCrowd?
- lvizon, on 01/06/2009, -5/+59the previous 17" ones were also 2799.
- rhslol, on 01/06/2009, -8/+59It's Apple. What do you expect?
- vincentml, on 01/06/2009, -6/+53"I'll go back to the second grade and learn how to spell the word shiny."
- tnoy, on 01/06/2009, -1/+45If you use your laptop every day, and need to charge it every day, 1000 charges is 2.7 years.
- ericdano, on 01/06/2009, -5/+49Never. I have a third generation iPod (before color screens) that holds a charge just fine.....though not as well as it used to, but since it is almost 6 years old, I'm not complaining.
- azurepalm, on 01/06/2009, -3/+46I think a laptop is a much bigger investment than an iPod. When was the last time you paid about $3000 (price of the new MBP 17") for an iPod? IF Apple start warranting the battery 3x longer (or up to 5 years as they claim) instead of the measley 1 year standard battery warranty, then I'm fine with this decision. If not, it means even Apple themselves are not confident about the longevity of the battery and that means built-in obsolescence is a new feature now.
- lalalalamppost, on 01/06/2009, -14/+55No ***** quad core in that macbook pro? for $2799?
Keynote = Epic fail - Dalhectar, on 01/06/2009, -8/+48Seems like someone drunk the Apple koolaid this time. If you honestly think battery life will be 8 hours if you have basic features like wifi on, and then actually expect 1000 charges where charge 800 will hive the battery the same amount of lifespan as charge 5...
Well, enjoy the koolaid. And paying for an Apple Tech to replace yuor battery. - lvizon, on 01/06/2009, -11/+46if you're content with an hp mini, then you're clearly not in the target demographic. move along.
- neseus, on 01/06/2009, -6/+39i originally thought the non-removable battery was a bad thing too, but then i thought how many times i take out my battery or have ever replaced it on my current MBP (0 times) vs. how often my battery has run out juice while on the road (all the time, seems like). For me, I think its a great trade-off.
- gordonf238, on 01/06/2009, -13/+45Please, how many people really buy an extra $400 li-polymer battery and carry it around fully charged? Maybe someone working in the field. I know of no one that does that, and I use my MBP to feed my family and provide a shelter over their heads. It's called a charger. The point of a laptop is to be a mobile computing platform. It's not like I can edit photos on a lawn in a park.
People really love to whine and complain about all things apple. If it's not the latest and greatest, then find an itsy-bitsy thing, nit-pick the hell out of it, and then just complain and complain. Seriously, want a million LED lights and options through the roof? Stick with HP or Dell. - GenNove, on 01/06/2009, -13/+43Lets see 2700 bucks.
Will get me an iTouch.-399.99 (32gb version)
hp mini 1000-350.00
Panasonic 47" 1080p-799.99
thats 1548.99
leaves me with 1151.01 left. I can buy anything I can buy a macbook or playstation 3
or invest on apple stock wait 3 days for it to go up 3-4 bucks sell. Repeat the same process and double your money.
WOW...2700 is a lot for a piece of technology that will be nothing tomorrow - neseus, on 01/06/2009, -0/+29ditto that. we were all expecting the 17" laptop back when they announced the new MBPs anyway. but now they've gone and tried to set it up as this big new thing. lame.
- kaihusky, on 01/06/2009, -8/+36It's not just you. $2800 is ridiculous. Apple is retarded to come out w/ this laptop in this economy.
- Joshuarr, on 01/06/2009, -8/+35This is a machine built for designers. We make a lot of money and we use top notch equipment to do so. Yes, this is expensive, but how much $ is your tv and ps3 gonna rake in for you?
- tas08, on 01/06/2009, -10/+37It's a hell of a lot. But look at it this way, it's so thin! And shiny!
- Xearis, on 01/06/2009, -2/+27its....a mac
- hazard, on 01/06/2009, -12/+37Does "non-glossy" = matte display? Not available on 15" MBP? Fail.
- Soulglow, on 01/06/2009, -1/+23The battery on my MacBook Pro failed after a month. If one of the cells fail, the entire battery becomes unreliable. Anyway the guy at the genius bar replaced it within 2 minutes. Let's hope the new batteries are more reliable.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -2/+23Print/Web Designer Laptop test
1. Open up 4-5 CS4 apps including bridge
2. Try and do something
3. ???
4. Buy a 2k dollar laptop - deltron, on 01/06/2009, -2/+23If I bought that everytime I charged it I'd be counting down from 1000....
- meamog, on 01/06/2009, -1/+22iMac / Mac mini / iPhone aren't pro equipment
- zakatov, on 01/06/2009, -4/+25Always been $2799
- daschupa, on 01/06/2009, -5/+24I used to have a Hyundai that had 140mph as the top speed on the speedometer. The point is, just because something says it can do something doesn't mean it actually will or can.
- surfernerd6987, on 01/06/2009, -35/+54I was thinking of purchasing one, I knew it was only a matter of time before the unibody came out. But no removable battery, no way! I'll DEFINITELY pass on this. I'd rather lose the space and have the option to input my own second battery. This is not a winner for me
- josereyes0, on 01/06/2009, -2/+19No, he was hormonal.
- cerealjynx, on 01/06/2009, -0/+17-A pound of good quality marijuana.
- neseus, on 01/06/2009, -3/+20i agree. i hope people embrace the new technology instead of clinging to the old tech just because thats the way it was. i'm reminded of when apple shipped their first computer without a floppy drive. scandalous!
- korea, on 01/06/2009, -4/+21funny... same here, but with your comment
- digitalpencil, on 01/06/2009, -1/+17have to see what it's like but if it can tolerate 8 hrs after 1000 cycles, then it's not that bad.. that said, i'd never buy a 17".. like lugging around a ***** paving stone instead of a laptop..
- dmcaudio, on 01/06/2009, -5/+21maybe you're too stupid to realize this... but all you need is a firewire 800 to 400 cable and it'll work with your 400 devices...
- non00b, on 01/06/2009, -2/+17The people who buy these are either rich or are professionals, typically. So either money is not an issue or they make enough money to cover the cost of the system.
- digitalpencil, on 01/06/2009, -4/+19standby?
- Nickdotnet, on 01/06/2009, -2/+17The intended user of this laptop is prepared to spend that much, in this economy of any other. Just because the economy is bad doesn't mean people's requirements get lower.
- machine82, on 01/06/2009, -0/+15What!? No big click wheel, i'll pass.
