- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37I don't trust tipsters, only hipsters.
- digga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31I'm revolting right now.... well, that's what my friends say anyway...
- miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33Oops, angle brackets didn't work.
Apple [product] could be on shelves [date] according to tipster.
That's what I meant to say. - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30Calm down.
- Gerolsteiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I'm afraid that's likely the only good news coming out of your pants.
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14if the iphone dosnt come out this comming january.. there will be some revolting people, thats for damn sure
- schroduggity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"never trust a hippy, they'll sell you bad druuuuuuuugs"
-nofx - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9In the past week I've read the following on the Digg front page:
There will be 2 iPhones.
There will be no iPhone at all.
There will be an iPhone for sale the day of MWSF.
There will be no iPhone talk at all at MWSF.
There will be an ultra-thin MB announced at MWSF.
Something about Nissan boobs.
There will be a Smart iPhone by Q2 2007.
There will be an iPhone shipping Jan 17. - mrl14, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12This is hilarious...2 weeks ago we had a different analyst come out each day raising targets and saying the iphone is coming, sending the stock to 93 and change. Then we get this idiot from cibc saying its not coming, stock falls, then another says its coming stock rises...then another one says its not and here we are today sitting at $86...where Apple should be trading w/o any rumours pushing it up.
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You mean:
while($iPhoneReleased == FALSE) {
$date = someRandomDate('2007');
diggStory("Apple iPhone could be released as early as $date", "More stupid empty rumors! Yay!", "http://somestupidsite.com");
$diggUserPatience--;
}
(It's PHP, and probably won't work, in case you needed to know, but some functions are custom defined ;) ) - anteyekon4myst, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11iPod, phone....based on this line of trajectory the next product Apple will come out with is a vibrator. Don't worry Nintendo your Wii will still hold a majority of that market share.
....what do you mean that's not what its for...it has a strap and everything. - an0nym0us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Shhhh, stop distrupting my source of income you, douche!
- abrooks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now let me think...January 15, that's a week AFTER MacWorld. I don't think so!
- third_eye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a common practice in stocks called pump and dump. You hype the stock, wait for it trade up, then take your profits selling to latecomers. Happens all the time.
- cbeach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@panique:
And what the hell is fascist about assigning a whole new category for speculative news, or flagging rumours in order to allow people the choice of filtering them?
Right.. I'm done feeding the trolls! - ShmoeTheHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i think you've forgotten that christmas happens every year.. why not sell out existing product only to introduce new stuff after the fact.
Long-term baby, its the way to think. - hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok, first off, i am a fan of the iPhone and apple products. But seriously, these rumors could very well ruin apple if the don't make an iphone, especially the stock rumors. everyone needs to chill out, let apple release what they want to release and sit back and watch. These rumors have really hung Apple by the balls and if they continue to get as big as this, apple will die if they don't release such rumored products.
All in all, chill out. - cbeach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@panique:
If you'd read what I'd said, you'd understand why I don't want to untick the Apple category. I love Apple news.
Who rattled your cage anyway? Are you one of these scumbags that profits from hyping rumours on their ad-covered blogs? - thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2exactly, mac's dont have stickers or lame trial software on them (well except msoffice), i could never see apple being okay with cingular or any other carrier branding their phones.
- thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Lets hope its on shelves unlocked with a decent price tag and more features than just a mp3 player. If so, I'm in.
- allenb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Yeah...unlocked...because Apple is all about that kind of thing."
Corrrect.
Apple will want to sell this on their terms, no one else's. If they can shift iPods for hundreds of dollars at a time, they can do the same with iPod-based mobile phones - all without the mobile networks getting involved.
That means network-unlocked phones. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+18I just stripped naked, turned my back to the mirror and looked over my shoulder -- My ***** says the iPhone will be released in early November.
My ***** has just as much credibility as this blog. - samuelcotterall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, my 21st birthday is on the 16th - Given that I'll be spending it sitting a Network Design exam, some Q1 Apple products would lift my spirits.
I doubt it will come to anything. - Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great! This and the Zune stinking up shelf space. At least the manufacturers are making some money on these products.
- thekak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry I don't believe this for a second. If you're only talking 2 weeks after Xmas, they would have pushed it before for MAD sales. So I would expect not to see this for months to come.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Since the number of rumors around the iPhone is getting out of hand, I'd like to start one that at least goes off on a different tanget...
That is, that the iPhone is in fact the Wii remote. That's right, built into every WiiMote made and sold today is an Apple phone and all you have to do to acticate it is get it within a computer running Leopard for ten minutes using the built in wireless connection. Dialing? You either tap out the numbers you want to dial or draw them in the air. The nunchuck? Didn't you notice the little nubbin on top can go right in your ear? Doesn't anyone remember how telephone handsets used to work:

Wiimote:

Coincdence? I think not! The clincher? What COLOR is the WiiMote...
I rest my case. - spookshowbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm with you. Every time I curse my Razr (several times daily), I remind myself that it might not be much longer until I have Apple goodness pressed up to my skull.
- martythemaniak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Well, I knew Apple is the Ultimate Super Greatness and Steve Jobs is a demi-god (as 1/4-1/3 or Digg's front page reminds me daily), but I didn't know they were so amazing as to be able to sell cell phones without FCC approval!
Its magic I tells ya, magic. - heyitsme23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2easy, all steve has to do is say "will be shipping in____days"
- leoCT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is getting old. If it was Apple promising this, it would be vaporware by now.
- AhmedB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2My gut feeling tells me it's gonna be 1-2 GB, for 249 or 299. This is based on pure speculation and just a feeling really.
- danieldrehmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't see any benefit - by a commercial point of view - in releasing a new mass market product right after Christmas.
- TheMacThinker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have been waiting for so long and I am still waiting to get that phone.
http://www.mostofmymac.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1According to a very reliable source, Apple will be porting Mac OS X to ENIAC. Final Cut Studio will follow suit in late spring 2007, and CS4 is scheduled for early 2008.
- AhmedB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3UGHHHHHHHHHH i hate the automatic formatting digg does....it busted the fun in my comment, why on earth does dig remove angle brackets...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
- thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I have a feeling its going to have a camera on the side with the buttons, a photobooth esque app, and hopefully voice chat with ichat and other iphone users. 1-2gb would be fine for me personally as long as it has some sort of smart phone qualities but I think apple will go big if anything.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is not reasonable at all. Cell phone manufacturers would be stupid to release a phone without first sending it to one of many software developers that create applications like cell phone games, etc.
No other cell phone manufacturer would EVER do something like this. They know that, unless their device can download and install a multitude of programs and applications, there will be some who will not buy it. I personally work for a company that makes cell phone software, and we receive every single mobile device on the market, usually many months before it goes on sale, and we've not seen a single thing about the iPhone.
So, either the iPhone is not coming soon and this rumor is ***** (highly probable), or Apple wants to lock out 3rd party developers from getting a head-start (unlikely). - lepton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe a simple phone will show up in January, but I believe the real work is on a smart phone that is also a much more capable handheld device that plays media, runs a sophisticated OS, is a PDA and a remote desktop that hooks to Macs, with Apple being a service provider. Details on all this is at http://tinyurl.com/y8rdcr
- bbqribs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and that's ***** pathetic. This is a goddamned RUMOR. There is currently NO TRUTH to it. If people revolt because Apple doesn't come out with some jerk off product, they're pathetic morons.
- JoeBaynham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If thats true, that will be fantasic! My birthday: 15th January :D
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"worth hoping"
- bassfanatik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't wait to get rid of my piece of crap RAZR and pick up one of these iPhones. The sooner the better.
- AhmedB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"So lets recap...The iPhone, two models, 2 GB and 4 GB, touch screen blah blah blah, for 249 and 299, goes on sale" "a week from now" , "we hope you will like it"
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Even as a fanboy, you violated commandment 4...
Ye shall not speak ill of Apple rumor stories. - xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Is it vibrating too? if it is, you have bigger news to tell everyone :P
- dan4prez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It seems reasonable. The Macworld Expo runs Jan 9-12 which would be a great place to unveil it, and then have it on shelves a couple days later.
- lachcorp, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7INCOMING BULLETIN: iPhone to be arriving on Christmas Eve according to a very reliable source in my pants.
- cbeach, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I love Apple. I love digg.com.
However, every day another slew of Apple rumours appears on the front page it makes me less and less fond of digg.com. Rumours dilute the genuine Apple news stories and discredit the digg process. Other people must be feeling the same way.
I've already written to feedback@digg.com explaining my problem with Apple rumours, but since the problem has since got worse, I assume they're not yet tackling it.
If you feel the same way about the rumours please write to feedback@digg.com and let the development team know to prioritise this issue.
I think a separate category is required for Apple Speculation. Failing this, there should be a system powered by community input to flag rumours. Once flagged they can be filtered by those who aren't interested in seeing them on their front page. - panique, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Hey numbnuts, how about *YOU* unchecking the apple topic in the topic settings of your profile and stop trying to impose your own personal brand of fascism on the rest of us.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Yeah...unlocked...because Apple is all about that kind of thing.
