- mrtorok, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16This reminds me a lot of the Apple ad that ended with a shot of Seinfeld from a few years back:

Apple has done better. Nothing about this ad really makes me want an iPhone. It borders on annoying."Hello, hello, hello, hello..." - mrtorok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8708568618021736202
That's it. - alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -20/+85When will an Apple commercial every say anything about the product?
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2just in case http://imagi-nation.org/iPhone.mp4
- greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -8/+58The "hello, hello, hello" reminds me of the "wow, wow, wow" in another ad that came out recently.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -19/+2haha, it says at&t, not cingulair in the ad.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34Makes me want the rediculously small zoolander phone.
- imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12AT&T, Cingular. It's the same thing

Um, the "hello, hello, hello" idea is because each "hello" is from a famous or popular movie.
And it was made specifically for the Academy Awards... which is celebrating Movies.
This wouldn't be their regular ad promoting a product, it was specifically designed for this program. - streak, on 10/12/2007, -16/+6Hello, BORING!
- imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Good call, dotdotdot
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29are you kidding me? its got the dude! that alone makes it great
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Is that "dotdotdot" as in dotdotdot, dashdashdash, dotdotdot? (Morse code for S.O.S.)
- miniboss, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Remember when Apple used to care about the its computer side? That was back before they threw us into the toilet so they can spend more time advertising and promoting their ipods, itunes, phones and TV stuff.
Honestly, how long does Apple expect mac-fanaticism to keep us satisfied? Its been so long since we've seen any news that directly was about Macs. Where's the news about Leopard, iLife, iWork, Macbooks, Mac Pros, Minis, Quad-core, iMacs or anything else that Apple used to be all about? - unit101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30You guys completely missed the point. The "hello" was an homage to the first Macintosh ad.
- dtmfdan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4>>When will an Apple commercial every say anything about the product?
When they actually have to to sell their product. - Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2They should have used that version of "Hello, Goodbye" that girls sings in the Target commercials. That would have been a better fit.
- monosyth, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2because Target's point is "Hello, Good Buy"... the iphone is a good buy? we'll see...
- code_of_life, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1dang Quicktime!!
Thanks for the youtube link! - naio21, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Crapple is a ***** company.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The Apple Ad should win best supporting actor for the Academy Awards show.
- iceeblue, on 10/12/2007, -135/+22No replaceable battery. No Wi Fi. No Third Party Apps. No 3G. No Sale
Don't fall for the hype.- iFungus, on 10/12/2007, -45/+24No Wi-Fi? Thats news to me
- evansls, on 10/12/2007, -8/+89It does have wi-fi
- kazem, on 10/12/2007, -10/+52No Wi-Fi? What are you on? And there might be 3rd party apps. It's not even out yet.
- iFungus, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't some of the iPhone's features require its wi-fi ability?
- supernova17, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4http://www.fregtk.com.nyud.net:8080/iPhone%20Ad.mov
- KirinDave, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Yes, it has wi-fi. Duh.
The 3rd party apps is a bigger question though. It's not clear if people will be able to make 3rd party apps nor not. Clearly it won't be totally open, but it's not clear that it will be totally closed. - matthall28, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Even if their isn't Open App development for it someone will hack it(or just put Linux on it)
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Seriously, Apple does a fine job with first party software, it isn't a game console, they don't need Konami to make stuff for them. Currently, I use; FinalCutPro, Pages, Keynote, Safari, Apple Mail and more. I Don't really even need 3rd party apps, except for games, but I don't play those, and even if I did need games, I have a Wii.
It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and EDGE. I don't understand what people's fascination with 3G is. I know it's faster, but it has wi-fi, so my school's border-T1 connection is fine for me. And if it is for downloading ringtones and such, use BlueTooth, iTunes, Wi-Fi, or .... ya know, you could wait the extra 30-60 seconds...
Jesus, people hate on it too much. It's a phone, since it is by Apple, people expect it to be f'in perfect. Same thing with the 5G iPod, they unveiled video and a day later they said "So.... when's the new REAL video iPod coming out!?"
I hate people :) - cryptoz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Why is he being dugg down? Man, digg users don't know their Slashdot history. It's the classic /. response to the iPod when it was released that's been made fun of every since! Come on people...
EDIT:

- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The iPod seemed to do pretty well without a replaceable battery. I, for one, am not fond of the plastic door that sometimes falls off of my Motorola.
- naio21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Flush that useless black brick down the toilet.
- iBenzin, on 10/12/2007, -23/+12it has wifi. third party apps will come. and apple never said it wont have a replaceable battery.

- Chris24, on 10/12/2007, -24/+3Great iPhone Ad. For some unknown reason for a minute I thought they are going to call it "hello" lol...
Imagine This: "Hey Look at my Hello!" T.R.A.N.S.L.A.T.I.O.N. "Hey Look at my iPhone" - eschompthis, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4please give me a link that works :)

- xistboi, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14 .
- Feej, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Jezuss! - It's just a god damn phone, not the solution for world peace or global warming!
- pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1lol yeah me to... haha... all the stars will have one the day it comes out... i think ipod made it big when 50 cent had the ipod in his music video.
- ryanissuper, on 10/12/2007, -24/+59I wasn't going to watch the Oscars, but now I am.
2 years ago I attempted my first suicide, and while I was in recovery I bought my first Apple product. It gave me the will to live and helped me to become a productive member of society. I would never even think of killing myself now, if only because I would miss so many glorious products that Apple will bring us in the future.- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12You crazy!
- Culled, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I'm pretty sure he's joking. Either way it's funny. I dugg it up.
- imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I really hope that wasn't serious! I love apple, but come on.
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@Defect:
Good crazy o' bad crazy? - Tradgedy12, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4dude. some of us (i hope to god im not alone...) get depressed enough to think about suicide...
don't joke about something like that...
im not emo, just get bad grades cus i don't do my hw. you cannot friggin imagine how depressing that is... every night i think about how im already screwing my life up...
nobody reply just to say they're sorry for me and im not alone, im not asking for that (won't ever check this thread again...) i just wish you wouldn't joke about suicide. i take it seriously - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Everybody thinks about suicide at some point or another. Thing is, bad grades aren't worth killing yourself over. I've yet to find a reason worth actually killing yourself over. If you're so depressed that you're getting bad grades, then do something about it and do your damn homework.
- razorpit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Your lack of use of the shift key makes me want to commit suicide.
- pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Yes me too buddy.. hang in there my man.. this a ***** world we live in.. but apple brings up hope and joy... all the things GOD Jehovah wants us to have...
- powerbook86, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Here's a mirror of the QuickTime file at PutFile.com http://putstuff.putfile.com/52263/7808228 It might be wise for somebody to get up another mirror before it disappears. Although of course I'm sure it'll be on Apple.com soon enough.
- tdawg148, on 10/12/2007, -28/+2if a freaking apple product stopped you from killing yourself, the world would be better off without you
(although i love me some iPhone)- jasongdx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Tomorrow on Digg: "Digg User Comment Drives a Man to Commit Suicide! AMAZING PICS!!"
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2As much as I agree that it is kinda strange, at least it saved somebody, I don't care if it was a gross obsession with Anna Nicole's trial, at least someone learned life is worth living before it was too late.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -30/+2We'll all get a good laugh if the courts decide 'that other company' is the rightful owner of the i-phone name.
Then all the Apple ads will be driving business to THEM!- zip22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17268277/
- Thargok, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Read the news. The iPhone name is allowed by both companies as of days ago.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10No kidding! Imagine when Apple Records finally settles with them too.
/sarcasm - imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Where have you been? Apple and Cisco settled the legal issues. Apple gets the rights to iPhone!
- Laxaloot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5even if they didn't get the rights to the name (which they have) the word "iPhone" was never shown inside that teaser.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As noted, it looks like the joke is on you.
Anyone who had any sense knew that Apple had the iPhone name in the bag when they broke off negotiations. Once Apple found out Cisco's hold over the iPhone consisted of a Brother label slapped on the plastic wrap of something they found laying around the warehouse, it took until a few days ago for the laugher of Apple lawyers to die down enough to where Apple could draft the paper allowing CISCO to keep using the name, undoubtley for only a slight payment to Apple. - jimbojim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You realize that Apple probably had to pay out the ass for the name, right? It sure as hell wasn't just a "slight payment."

Mirror - Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -25/+4I think it could of been a bit better, but I'm sure they'll get more effective as June draws closer. The majority of people that aren't like us diggers will be confused and won't really realize that it's a phone.
- Thargok, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33They won't realize it is a phone after the ~87 different phones in the commercial. That's a realistic statement.
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21what? you mean the 27 hellos won't be a dead giveaway?
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Oh *****, you're right. I thought it was a soda pop ad. Thanks for clearing that up.
- a1lostnomad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16If the general public doesn't get that it's a phone after a dozen scenes of people saying "hello" on telephones then the world is more ***** up than I thought. Most people I know (anti-techs included) already know about the iPhone. It was featured in nearly every periodical and news cast there is after its unveiling.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It had the Big Lebowski in it... That's gotta be enough...
*Edit*sorry wrong spot... - dpmorri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the general public will go to the Apple website and learn more

At least that means no one can call this a dupe (who am I kidding, I'm sure someone will) - vbagate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Awesome Add. I had no idea it was for the iPhone until the end.
- eatrains, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Are you referring to my 17.3 + 24.7? Yeah, I thought that was pretty sweet.

- kweber103, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10does any one know the song playing in the background?

- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4(Rolleyes)
Actually, I wasnt going to comment on a TV ad airing during a low rated movie awards show.
But if you insist...
The ad was unhelpful in giving a reason for anyone to want this. The montage of people answering the phone was more interesting than the final shot of the Apple phone.
Other than giving all of you a reason to have a nice circle digg, the ad did little else.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6It's a phone...what's the big deal?
I know, it has the apple logo on it and it has a touch screen, but at the end of the day it's a big phone that costs a lot...- wilhoitm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5It is going to change my life!
- Snoozer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3@D3koy
It's a superior product because it's made by apple. Have some kool-aid and get with the program - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3People, people.
Now you know that those types of comments will not be tolerated here. You must celebrate the LG Prada clone for what it is.
A $600.00 copy of other people's ideas with an Apple logo attached to it.
- iFungus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2In the ad, whats the face in the upper right corner of the iPhone?
- Thargok, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That's the contact's photo or the photo in the vcard of the person you are calling. In this case is it
"John XXXXXd" - jketterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It said John Appleseed.
- Thargok, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That's the contact's photo or the photo in the vcard of the person you are calling. In this case is it
- ishtiaque, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49"Hello" was the first thing the first mac said publicly. Nice homage to its heritage of revolutionary UI from Apple.
- jdog1016, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Are we sure there's no chance that they're renaming it "Hello" in light of the legal conflicts with Cisco? Wouldn't be too bad of a name--Apple Hello has kind of a nice ring to it.
- Thargok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9There are no legal conflicts with Cisco as mentioned above.
- Character0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Brownie points for having the Dude in the ad.
- wrenchone, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Pretentious and devoid of any useful information. In other words, the perfect Apple add.
- DeFex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Just like the people who might be watching the oscars then..well done apple :)
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Nice-perfect context too.
- ghost116, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3does anybody know if apples gonna have its own network for the phone, or is it gonna be available under verizon or cingular?
- imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Hello".. it's cingular, now at&t.
- zip22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3cingular only
- Dotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59:58 PM EST - just played again.
If you wanna catch it, I'd assume it's going to play again. - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6And that squishy sound in the ad was the part where Apple fanboys just collectively wet their pants.
- longterm, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3They didn't HAVE to say anything about the iPhone, everyone else is. That's what is so cool about the ad.
This thing is going to turn the phone business upside-down, just like the iPod did.
I can't wait!- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The phone market is substantially different from the MP3 player market. No single phone (especially at $500-600) could ever have that kind of impact. At best it will shake up the smart phone market some. If Apple has a half dozen phone models available from all major carriers in the $0-150 range in five years then we can talk again.
- cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ethergnat
Note the progression the iPod.
Mac only. Firewire only. Music only. One style, but two different capacities and prices.
Now, many redisigns later, Mac and PC. USB. Music, photos, videos, and games. Many different models spanning a whole range of prices (and even the high-end players priced a good $150 less than where they started at) with differing capabilities in each design, letting customers buy the version that fits them best.
This is the rollout. Likely it will do better than the iPod's rollout since it has the established brand behind it (as opposed to DOING the establishing ;-) ), but Apple added the mini and added photos to the iPod at just over the two year mark, so expect major changes and additions once their exclusivity with Cingular runs out.
- wilhoitm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wonder if Steve Jobs will be going to any of the Oscar parties?
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1No way. He's busy in Cupertino working on the iPhone.
- osxtreme, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7wow, well done apple, well done
- broomett, on 10/12/2007, -25/+3That is the kind of commercial that makes people scramble for their remote ti turn it off as quickly as possible. Like that annoying kid trying to get his father to take him out for pancakes.
Anyone who thinks it is a GOOD commerical has just identified himself as the most pathetic or the pathetic of fanboys.- wilhoitm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No! You have identified yourself as the most pathetic of the pathetic of Apple fanboys haters!
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Another sensitive Microsoftie flies off the handle and spouts nonsense. Dime a dozen.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've been an outspoken critic of iPhone hype (the phone itself is both cool and disappointing) on Digg, but I thought it was a good commercial given the context.
- cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It was a commercial designed for an Oscar-watching crowd. I think it targetting its' audience quite well.
I'm not thinking they'll play it much otherwise (letting the internet spread it around instead) and work on a different one for closer to the iPhone's release.
- masterofNone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14has it dawned on anyone what irony it is that apple is partnered wit AT&T on this? wasn't jobs' and wozniak's first venture selling a little device called a blue box that could be used to screw with the phone company and make free long distance calls?
- mgalle33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anybody know how much this phone is goin to cost when it comes out?
- Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Both with 2 year contracts from cingular.
$499 for 4GB, and $599 for 8GB USD
- Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Both with 2 year contracts from cingular.

- cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least it's a GOOD Disney movie... As in, Pixar. ;-)
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Hmmm.. I was expecting:
"Hi, I'm an iPhone"
"And I'm a dur-dur-dur-Smart Phone!"
Can't say it would have been any worse... - himpster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I love the name of the incoming call...
John Appleseed! - tropican8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The HD encode looks a tad....blue...
- LemmingJesus, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I want that minute of my life back.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You DID get that minute of your life back. Unfortunately you wasted it by writing something stupid. Better luck next time!
- d3dm, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I've never understood the fascination with the Academy Awards. Who watches that drivel?
Why didn't Apple buy a commercial segment advertising the iPhone during the Superbowl? Is there something about the viewing audience of the Oscars that would be more suited to an Apple wireless phone?
I've always thought watching the Academy Awards was for single women with lots of cats, or maybe for guys that "aren't into sports" (if you get my drift). What's Apple trying to say here? Hello? Hello? Hello?- wilhoitm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Don't worry, Apple is not alone in targetting this audence. Micro$oft played that stupid "Wow" commercial. Wow!
- anchorboi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"for guys that "aren't into sports" (if you get my drift)"
Oh yeah, we get it... I mean, what's more gay than the Oscars? Hint: You. - cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You think guys watching the Super Bowl are the kind of fashion-conscious status-symbol types who will be looking for an expensive, high-tech phone?
The Super Bowl commercial may come back when the iPhone does well enough and they open it up to different models. In this case, though, they're targetting the right crowd and letting it filter through the internet to the other tech-savvy sort who would want it right at launch.
- fungible, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not that anyone cares, but this ad looks like it's based on an art piece by Christian Marclay called "Telephones."
At least that's what I realized watching it. If not, great, another lawsuit!- spacebetween, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's exactly what I thought!
- bergstroem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How does that work? Why don't they sue the ad agency that claimed it was an original idea and pitched it to Apple?
- probFake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thanks for the HD link.
