- natedouglas, on 10/10/2007, -33/+7You have to enter your phone number as XXX-XXX-XXXX, not anything else, in order for it to work.
- ryanschmidt, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2That's not true. I entered my phone number and I got the SMS message. If you do not enter your phone number you'll never get the access code.
- natedouglas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16I mean the format, not a bunch of X's. I entered my phone number as XXXXXXXXXX, and it didn't work (and didn't give me an error message). But when I put hyphens in, it worked fine.
Sorry, I should've been clearer.- rpgmaker, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6No, he should've been smarter. Is clear what you said, I don't know why you're being dugg down.
- mattyG, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Um I'm pretty sure ryan was joking...
- spinxter, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Being dugg down for inaccurate info. I entered my number as XXXXXXXXXX and it worked just fine. Did it from my iPhone.

Weird- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Psychic.
- simplenation, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6i think this is genius of apple. now that everyone has $100 store credit there will be a huge soar in sales of their computers especially with the release of Leopard next month.
- Alegoo92, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2it's not so genius- it's logical. They already made 300% profit off those iPhones.. and now they'll make a little less profit on all those people who spend 40 bucks or so on Leopard with our discount.
- epyon180, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Because this $100 is really a long way towards that MacBook Pro I want.
- Shiner6, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I entered my number as XXXXXXXXXX and it worked just fine. I'm sure apple knows how to place hyphens in there if the user does not enter them. They're pretty good at that type of stuff.
- donwilson2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It says my iPhone has been returned.
wtf is that.- rossnyc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3it means your iphone has been taken back to the store because it was faulty or not needed.
- donwilson2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I bought it brand new.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Or, apparently, it hasn't. And Apple's just saying it was.
Of course, we're in a thread of people who think that Apple NEVER makes mistakes. Ever. Except when they "overprice" something.
This is the biggest good cop/bad cop act I've seen. - Shiner6, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're in the same thread buddy.
- anotherjeff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you got owned.

ya, owned.

- mainframe, on 10/10/2007, -8/+36Worked for me :D 100 bucks back in my pocket... ok... so I have $100 to spend at the Apple store... anyone have any good suggestions as to what to buy?
- kalisphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11I'd avoid saying "hey, I need new running shoes... maybe those Nike ID+'s... and a Nike+iPod kit... and a new nano... for my wife too..." because I just spent over $600 I wouldn't have spent otherwise :-/ It'd be a lot easier if the iPhones supported the Nike+iPod thingamajigger.
- ogremidget, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3You would go running with your iPhone?
- nandasunu, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2obviously...
- ogremidget, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3You would go running with your iPhone?
- Gryffydd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16If you don't already have one of the new iMacs, I'd get the new keyboard. I got one to use with my MBP and I love it.
- mccarron, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The wireless one is out now too, can't wait to pick one up. I may save my discount for Leopard though and then get both. Leopard with a student discount will be under 100.
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7The wireless one doesn't have a num pad, which sucks.
- dvdrtrgn, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Why? Do you do 10-key entry?
- pfranz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30|\|L'/ Ph0R 1337 5P34|
- Gryffydd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Precisely the problem. I use the numpad a LOT, and I can't stand using a keyboard without one, which is why I hook up an external to my MBP whenever I have real work to do. The wireless keyboard is probably best used connected to a Mac Mini on your TV. That's about the only place I see it really being useful and effective.
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7The wireless one doesn't have a num pad, which sucks.
- Timan, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4Number-pad sold separately though :P
- neonenergy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Timan, thats only with the wireless keyboard
- mccarron, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The wireless one is out now too, can't wait to pick one up. I may save my discount for Leopard though and then get both. Leopard with a student discount will be under 100.

- MadKennyP, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15iDignity.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Couldn't have said it better.
- vellaem, on 10/10/2007, -17/+6Anything from the wide range of products that cost under $100 in an Apple store. You want to maximize your refund, right? Because they took all your money before on the overpriced Phone, right? Don't want to get caught paying more for something you don't really need, right? Right?!
- gfitzgeraldmd, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4If you use a Mac, iLife '08 and iWork '08 just came out. I got iLife '08, and think it is an improvement of the last version. It came with a trial of iWork '08, which if you hate Excel for Mac as much as I do, is a must have. Numbers is a much better program than Excel for Mac. Of course Keynote has always been better than Powerpoint. Pages is OK, but its a word processor, not that exciting of of a program type to begin with...
- najdorf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Wait... that's software! Bwahahahaha!
- mentor972, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11The bluetooth headset to go with it. :-)
- StrikerObi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Don't waste your money on that thing. Get the Jawbone bluetooth headset instead. It's far better than most bt headsets on the market and costs $10 less than Apple's, and it looks good.
- gage006, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3The Jawbone does not look good. Unless you like having, what looks like, a cheese grater stuck to your face.
- SirWho, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3the cheese grater look is all the rage in Europe.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2What, you're telling him not to waste money that he already wasted by not buying another overpriced Apple product?
I don't think that the iPhone early adopters really understand that concept. - Ellipsys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Its actually a pretty good headset. Small form factor and good battery life considering this. Jawbone is large, fragile, and admittedly provides slightly better sound quality in a rainstorm, but that is about it
- StrikerObi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Don't waste your money on that thing. Get the Jawbone bluetooth headset instead. It's far better than most bt headsets on the market and costs $10 less than Apple's, and it looks good.
- airiox, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10mainframes comments are the perfect example of why Apple is a bunch of geniuses. They give them $100 store credit to encourage more spending from their apple loyalists. They also keep their fans happy by giving back $100 they rightly deserve.
- fowleryo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8i was with you til you said "deserve"
- TheSabre, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The downside is that the Apple fanboys that think they "rightly deserve" the store credit will just use it on some other brand new iProduct the day it comes out. And then they will complain when the price of THAT iProduct comes down a few months later. And then they will feel like they are entitled to another credit.
IMO, it was a bad move by Apple. They should have just worked with AT&T to give those early owners something iPhone-related, such as a plan upgrade for no charge. By giving them store credit, they are just going to start a vicious cycle of future credit entitlement.
- jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1Anything you can buy? Not sure...is your dignity for sale?
- grouchyman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+32Wait till Leopard in October (hopefully)... will only cost you $29 for a full upgrade.
- StrikerObi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I bought the brand new (just went up in the Apple store yesterday) Shure SE110 headphones. Only cost me $7.45 and that was all tax!
- quomen, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Buy me an iDrank at the Genius Bar.

- quomen, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Ive owned the bose triports for about SIX years already. It's stlil going strong and sounds wonderful. I've heard Senheissers, I've heard other ones... Im happy with my triports.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Sennheisers rock. They offer lifetime warranty on their headphones. They will go strong for longer than six years. My vendor for them, London Drugs, even handles the repair return and dealing with Sennheiser. So pretty much you drop them off, don't pay a dime, and wait for your good-as-knew phones to come back.
And if you're like me and your cord gets a lot of abuse, they're replace it for you.
Not saying anything about Bose, but Sennheiser rocks. - bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did I really say knew? New.

- lastminute, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1true dat!
- rodo75005, on 10/10/2007, -17/+108Honestly. What other company could have done this ?
Dear Apple, you rock.- newAccount, on 10/10/2007, -17/+1I know what you mean, I complained to Apple that mac ***** were hassling me everytime I tried to make a phone call and I got $300. Apple rocks!
- newAccount, on 10/10/2007, -10/+1why are people modding me down? I said "Apple rocks!"
- bmobile, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Maybe because you used a derogatory term while doing it? "*****" is a very mean word. Think before you speak, it helps!
- newAccount, on 10/10/2007, -10/+1why are people modding me down? I said "Apple rocks!"
- iEnigma, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8But, didn't they screw early adopters in the first place? You're saying "this is fantastic! Free $100 store credit!" It seems like Apple can have its cake and eat it, too. They look good and still charged you an extra $100 for being an early adopter.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Please. $100 for having an iPhone for 2 1/2 months before anyone else who got it for $399. Not a bad deal.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Nice spin. Do you guys get dizzy flip flopping like that?
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3You don't understand that the iPhone was worth the price paid. Just because it's even a better deal now doesn't mean to those who bought it, it was not worth that much to them. It's not screwing early adoptors to give them earlier access to a product - look at how much people pay for limited quantity launch day stuff of anything to see many, many examples of where getting something as soon as you can is worth a lot to a lot of people.
For me it replaced a phone I detested, and has been useful since they day I got it. If someone were hitting you in the face every day wouldn't you be willing to pay $100 to make them stop 2.5 months earlier?- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If it was worth the price paid, then why did people cry foul when someone else got a cheaper price? You guys wanted free *****.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4bromac: SOME people were pissed off. Not everyone. Are you seriously generalizing ALL Apple fans everywhere? I wasn't upset about the $200. First thing on my mind was, "Great! I just saved $200 on my wife's iPhone that I have to buy after she fell in love with mine"
- jkoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Yeah, they put a gun to my head and forced me to pay $600 for a phone because I have no free will and can't make informed decisions.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Please. $100 for having an iPhone for 2 1/2 months before anyone else who got it for $399. Not a bad deal.
- chris8535, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2Actually almost ANY other company will give you a FULL refund in CASH. So you are right, what other company would do this... only apple... because only apple followers would see $100 money they could only spend at the apple store as = to $200 real cash.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5What other company gives you cash after the return policy has expired? Besides, I am more astonished at the simplicity of the process rather than the $100 itself. Go find yourself a hole.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Please name a company that has given cash for a few months old product they lowered prices on.
- chris8535, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Lets see 90 days price match, Dell, Best Buy, Circuit City, Compusa, almost any big box retailer, the list goes on.
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Those are STORES with competitive price matching, not companies like Apple, Dell or HP... wrong answer.
- arctic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Could? Everyone. Would? No idea.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3They gave you $100 that you had to spend on another overpriced Apple product. So essentially they slipped you 20% of what they ripped you off for, and they're saints.. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
That Apple Kool Aid's spiked.- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2No one is forced to buy an Apple product. They are extremely easy to avoid if you choose.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So...you can use that $100 APPLE STORE credit elsewhere?
You. Just. Don't. Get. It. Which is why Jobs is a billionaire, and you aren't.
People ARE forced to hand that money right back to Apple, who will still charge retail and then some.
One rule of business is to give back store credit, instead of cash. That way you still keep the money. In the end, Apple got away with it while looking good. They're the Al Capone of the computing world.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So...you can use that $100 APPLE STORE credit elsewhere?
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2No one is forced to buy an Apple product. They are extremely easy to avoid if you choose.
- vertinox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Once, my MS Games Store order was late and Microsoft comped with a copy of Windows ME. I ***** you not. It like an injury to the insult ;)
- newAccount, on 10/10/2007, -17/+1I know what you mean, I complained to Apple that mac ***** were hassling me everytime I tried to make a phone call and I got $300. Apple rocks!
- nigelstewart, on 10/10/2007, -11/+490 seconds here and now I'm looking at the Apple TV Thingy but I can't go there since it doesn't do 1080.
- drjones78, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Yea, it does. 1080i or 1080p.. Of course, theres no itunes content in HD, but whatever.
- Timan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1On the same boat as you, looking at the Apple TV more and more... I just know I use my credit on this and Apple revives the product and includes everything this one didn't have.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1You know what? I wish someday a company would stop offering a limited duration to get things like this. Why the hell would Apple care? They should just say "want to get it in 2009? Sure!"
At the VERY least, they should give a year to respond, rather than a couple months.- Skunkhair, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4the jobs figures that if you were anxious enough to be an early adopter than responding fast enough shouldn't be a problem.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Well I'm sure most iPhone owners would be on top of it, yes. ;-) But still, it was just an irritating universal matter that would be NICE if it were different.
- elsenormalo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Wow, some people will complain about anything.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'm complaining about an industry-wide trend that's irritating. Why shouldn't one complain about it?
It's not a complaint about Apple itself (hell, they were certainly under NO obligation to provide it); it's just something that occurred to me while I was reading the article.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'm complaining about an industry-wide trend that's irritating. Why shouldn't one complain about it?
- MadKennyP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Probably has to do with the accountants. Apple doesn't want to have the liability for any unclaimed rebates hanging around 15 years from now.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I'm sure most of it does, but I figure "why not?" If Apple doesn't exist 15 years from now, it wouldn't matter anyway. ;-)
I'd mostly like to see a larger duration for these, though. It's very typical for companies to offer redemptions like this (usually a forced liability), they offer the BARE MINIMUM amount of time they feasably can, which is very anti-consumer.
There should really be a year minimum on stuff like that. Certainly not out of line, but actually means people who come by the information late have more time to get the claim they're due.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I'm sure most of it does, but I figure "why not?" If Apple doesn't exist 15 years from now, it wouldn't matter anyway. ;-)

- Skunkhair, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I've been eyeing the only other iphone headphones available from the apple store. conveniently priced at 100 bucks.
- newAccount, on 10/10/2007, -16/+1I sold my iphone to some idiot for $800, it worked out great because I couldn' t use the phone in public without attracting a bunch of rabid ***** mac idiots talking about how much they loved Steve Jobs. I took the $800 and bought two regular cell phones and a dell laptop.
- itspuddingtime, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8you bought TWO cell phones?! TERRORIST
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Did you give your customer a $400 credit at your store?
- grammarpolice, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4@ New Account. Do you think we care?
- newAccount, on 10/10/2007, -16/+1I sold my iphone to some idiot for $800, it worked out great because I couldn' t use the phone in public without attracting a bunch of rabid ***** mac idiots talking about how much they loved Steve Jobs. I took the $800 and bought two regular cell phones and a dell laptop.
- ozymandias2012, on 10/10/2007, -21/+3They should have made it $200 since you have to spend it in the APPLE STORE!
- GreyFox422, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Apples is the only company that I have seen to do something like this. Be happy you are getting anything back.
- kermithefrogand, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0AT LAST!!!
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Surprisingly, this worked flawlessly for me, even though it depended on not just Apple, but AT&T as well (for the SMS)
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -12/+5Hey everyone, remember the first few posts of this story: these are the people who dropped 600 without thinking "Gee, Apple might do a price drop sometime soonish..."
- Passels, on 10/10/2007, -19/+6I never heard a bigger bunch of babies then all the early iPhone adopters. This happened with every new gadget in history and every worth wild cell phone in history. You had to get the iPhone when it first came out so thats what you get. I can't wait until they release a 3g version with a 16gb Flash to see how you cry babies react. They even gave you $100 back and your still complaining. L-L-L-Losers!
- ericisshort, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2you my friend are a hero.
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Most people bitching are people who dont even have an iPhone!
- comacnut, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6Didn't work for me, it said their records show I returned my phone. I sent them an email, hope it doesn't take too long to get sorted out.
- nutmac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I don't know why you got dug down, but that happened to me too. I bought an unopened but returned iPhone, and paid the full price.
- ryanmm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why would you pay the full price for a returned product?
Also if you really did buy an unopened, returned product for full price, the store wouldn't need to tell you that...- nutmac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Well you've answered my own question. I bought an unopened but returned iPhone. Unopened as in new. Since it's new, I was asked to pay the full price (Palo Alto University Avenue Apple Store)
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If it's unopened, then a returned product should be, physically, exactly the same as a box still sitting on a shelf.
Do you Americans really complain about not being told that a box was in someone else's posession for < a week? Even if it's still brand new and minty? How would you even be able to tell the difference? - nutmac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I am not complaining about whether it's returned or not. As far as I am concerned, I bought a brand new iPhone. It just happened to be a returned product, unopened and never activated. I just want $100 store credit for an item that was paid at full retail price that's all. I don't know why you guys are digging me down when I did nothing wrong. I just want Apple to recognize my purchase as a valid one.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Nutmac, my comment was towards ryanmm.
I was defending you. - bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ok, I only clicked once.
***** you, Digg comment system.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1He's getting Dugg down because this is the Apple Does No Evil thread.
- ryanmm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why would you pay the full price for a returned product?
- enzyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Same here. I had exchanged my phone within the first few days because the touch display was loosing sensitivity. I think they screwed up the exchange.
- 72Devilz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm in the same boat, my phone was sent in for repair and they replaced it. So now the S/N is different than the one that was originally connected to my phone number. Apple rep had me send in an e-mail, apparently there are more than a few of us in the same situation. No instant gratification but 48-72hrs is not bad either.
- donwilson2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Mine is brand new (supposedly) from the AT&T store but I got the same error message. I can't wait another 48-72 hours :-/
- nutmac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I don't know why you got dug down, but that happened to me too. I bought an unopened but returned iPhone, and paid the full price.
- trghpy, on 10/10/2007, -11/+6God I love being a apple stock holder...
Your 100 dollars in apple cash will probably cost apple less than 70$ due to their markup.
Only way to get close to your moneys worth would to spend it on iTunes.- colecut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5what does apple markup or profit have to do with me getting my money's worth?
and uhm.. what do you think the profit margin is on mp3s through iTunes? I think thats the only way NOT to get your money's worth....- gfitzgeraldmd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1As an Apple stock holder, I like the store credit move too. If you want to stick it to Apple a bit, buy something they don't make from their store. The profit margins a slimmer on third party hardware and software, and yes probably iTunes music too.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Why would you want to "stick it to Apple" over getting something you actually want with $100 credit?
- fhscomtech3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I believe he was simply trying to say that it does not cost Apple $100 to give you $100 in store credit.

You have to spend money to make money. - bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Fix this comment system, Kevin. It only took Apple 6-8 weeks to move, what's taking you so long?
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The Podcast section looks great. Oh, I only accidently clicked twice. WTF is up with the triple post?
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3After taking in $600 in revenue.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Only worth $70? Great, I'll give you $75 for yours.
It sure is worth $100 to me. $100 that I would have paid to buy Leopard (now only $29). Or, that computer is now $2399 instead of $2499. Does it really matter? If you are a non-Apple consumer, then its not that useful... oh wait, unless you use an iPod like many Windows users do.... and if you don't, maybe you should get one with your $100.- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1In order to have the $100 you would have had to have bought an iPhone. So, by definition if you have this $100 you have an iPod.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0good point. get an iPod that holds more than 8 Gigs then.
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1In order to have the $100 you would have had to have bought an iPhone. So, by definition if you have this $100 you have an iPod.
- Twee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I thought this credit is not good for use with the iTunes music store?
- colecut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5what does apple markup or profit have to do with me getting my money's worth?
- Sephirenn, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2I am slightly pissed that you cannot use it on iTunes AT ALL. What the hell am I going to buy from Apple? I dont want a Mac, and I don't need an iPod cause I have a damn iPhone!
- Avor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Can't you buy 100$ worth of iTunes gift cards? I really don't know, just asking :)
- 360modena, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*Edit* Looking below, it seems you can't switch this for a gift card.
- rwallen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sell it. I bought 2 iPhones and I sold both gift certificates to an employee for $195.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Who would buy $200 worth of gift cards for $195. I mean, $5 is $5.. but then again, it is only $5.
- Avor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Can't you buy 100$ worth of iTunes gift cards? I really don't know, just asking :)
- TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Apple is one of the few stores that can offer people a store credit refund, and receive absolutely no complaints. Plus I bet people end up spending more than that 100 on an Apple product, I can see a lot of people (including myself) putting it towards a more expensive product.
- vellaem, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Apple is quite shrewd, making $200 net on each of the early adopters and then enticing them into buying still more. Wow, Apple sure does care about you.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Was planning on a Mac Pro either way.. now its a $100 less. Not bad.
- chris8535, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why on earth would you get a MacPro? At this point in its life-cycle it is ridiculously expensive. Unless you are a serious special effect film editor, MacPro is a superfluous purchase.
- goodfellaNW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the input.. was debating it myself.. but I need something with more power in order to run OS X and Parallels so I can do my stupid .NET programming for work. I need to switch to PHP or figure something out... need 4GB of memory, Mac Pro vs Macbook Pro
- AronT, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7I am enraged! I can't use this on an iTunes gift card!!
From the FAQ: "You can purchase just about anything sold by Apple, except another Apple Store Gift Card or an iTunes electronic Gift Certificate."
OK, I'm not really enraged... but I do wish I could use this on an iTunes gift card...- JGarret748, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Agree with your post, but, reading the FAQ, I'm wondering if purchasing iTunes gift cards in an Apple store would bypass this. FAQ says iTunes electronic Gift Certificate, but that's not the same thing as a physical iTunes Gift Card, is it? (And that, too, obviously is different from an Apple Store Gift Card.) Might be worth a shot!
- AronT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll probably try that today during lunch or after work
- JGarret748, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Post again if it works. I plan to try it this weekend, unless it's a no-go.
- AronT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll probably try that today during lunch or after work
- sw1ft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Or purchase [random $100 item] and bring it back the next day _without_ your reciept and exchange it for an iTunes giftcard.
- DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This probably happened because the refund is non-transferable. Allowing you to roll it into a very transferable vehicle doesn't do Apple any good. You got this because you were an early adopter, Apple wants to reward that behavior and encourage it in the future.

- kkiran, on 10/10/2007, -15/+3Im so happy : Just got my $100 store credit!!!
Bought my phone for $550 on craigslist, now effectively it is $450 :) not bad, huh!! To add to it, iPhone brought me $200 in Google Adsense (http://windows-mobiles.com/iphone ),that makes it $250!! Finally, my Cingular 8125 roped in $150 - Hence $100!!!
I love Apple, I love the comunity, I love you all :)- FiveGallonDigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1get bent

http://iphone.corank.com - modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -19/+10It scares me how happy some of you are. Oh thank you Apple for giving me credit that drags me into giving you more money! You people need your head checked.
Sure, tell yourself you were going to buy it anyway. That may be true for some of you, but I bet not the majority.- TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yeah, you know what, you're right! Screw the money Apple gave me when they didn't really have to! They can take that 100, that I would rather spend on something else than not receive at all, and shove it up their asses!
- vellaem, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11) You over paid $300 cash & you cry.
2) Apple gives you $100 credit to be used only in their store, which has nearly no products near that low price range. You are happy, because you have an excuse to buy more overpriced products, about which you may get upset about later. Apple is happy, walking away with the excess $200 in cash.
3)Profit!
- vellaem, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11) You over paid $300 cash & you cry.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Apple didn't have to give anyone rebates, It's $100 I didn't have before. That's why I'm happy. The real question is why are you so grumpy?
- kimgh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Since I was already planning to buy Leopard Family Edition next month, it really IS money in my pocket. Now I can get it for $100 instead of $200. Sure makes sense to me, and yes, I AM happy about the credit.
- Jholder112233, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Family edition? There's only one version... This isn't Vista
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's not a different version, it's a "you can use this on up to five Macs" license of the same version.
Essentially, $129 for one license, $199 for up to 5. It's a good deal even if you only have TWO machines. (But it does make you more likely TO upgrade instead of just wait it out, which is what I'm sure they're counting on. Probably evens out in the end, and it keeps more people up to date, which is better for Apple in general.)

- KirinDave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Just got my rebate. I have to admit, the process was very slick. You enter in your details (which are trivial and all on your iphone's information screen), get a SMS verification code (presumably to prove your continued possession of the phone), then bam, print to PDF.
So many other companies would do something asinine like ask for a proof of purchase to be mailed in or some other tedious BS.- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You don't really need a proof of purchase when you're texting the phone itself.
It would be hard to receive if you hadn't bought the phone. - aeon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0> then bam, print to PDF.
Shouldn't that be 'BOOM'!

- Squeeky, on 10/10/2007, -5/+57Nobody put a gun to my head and told me to purchase a $600 phone. I knew the price would be lowered, even if it was 2 months after release. I've been completely satisfied with my purchase, and now this? Apple not only manufactures high quality products, they have some high quality customer care to go with it. While certainly not expected, this offer from Apple is highly appreciated.
- merlin77077, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Couldn't have said it better myself

- m-memphis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Just printed mine out. I'll be hitting the Apple Store tonight for a Jawbone Bluetooth headset. :)
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1The Jawbones are cool, but jst to throw a wrench into your plans - someone I know returned the Jawbone and bought the Apple bluetooth headset which he likes a lot more for general use.
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Jawbone is much better than the Apple headset... but Jawbones have a HIGH failure rate. From 10 of them (among friends/family), 8 of them came broke (sounded like *****) had to have them replaced, the replacment of 2 of them were the same way, had to have them replaced. Now if you do get one that works, it works really well, and the sound quality and noise cancelation is much better than the Apple branded one .
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Perhaps his was messed up then, he said it sounded like he was talking through a tube. But ergonomically, he also didn't like the Jawbone poking him in the side of the cheek as hard as it does.

- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oops, you said something against Apple. They ARE being shrewd. They're probably making more money since people aren't limiting themselves to the $100 credit. I've noticed that business sense doesn't go far on Digg though.
There's the only complain that could sugarcoat a store credit and have people accept it at face value.- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2complain = company
It's been a long day.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2complain = company
- EASwanson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I think the correct internet response to vellaem's post would be : QQ
- jordan7485, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Don't be an idiot.
- valentine76, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2Steve Jobs wrote a letter to his customers a couple of weeks back. It was very announced.
- kalisphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4RTFA. This is how you actually GET the store credit. This has not been announced.
- ersnyder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's on the front page of Apple.com, how much more announced do you need?!
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, the point is that those of us who were due the credit appreciate being informed that we can now actually redeem it.
- kalisphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4RTFA. This is how you actually GET the store credit. This has not been announced.
- criskywalker, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2oh yeah!
I bought my phone from an apple employee who didn't want to switch carriers for $300 and now I got an extra $100 back!!! it worked!- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Cute. ;-)
- shiftclick, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Thanks for posting. Just used my credit to get a second iPhone (for the wife)...
- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4For the iTards if you can't locate your SERIAL # , go to the HOME screen, tap on SETTINGS, then go to GENERAL, then ABOUT and your serial # is there... now if you don't know your cell# you need to more help than i can provide...like a new brain :P
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Or you could just look at the back of the phone (though it's small enough it might be hard to make out some letters)
- mm242099, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4it's etched into the back of the phone too
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Also on your receipt, if you got it from an Apple store.
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's also on the AT&T receipt.
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Its also shown in iTunes
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0...but other than that... WHERE'S THE CEREAL NUMBAR?!!
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The phone number is easy to access in the settings too, for you WinTARDS.
- kronzdigg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Got Mine.....More apple stuff, tg no mail-in-rebate! Why can't other businesses be like apple, so easy so simple.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Other business are like Apple. Everyone tries to give out store credit instead of refunds. Most people don't take it.
Why can't Apple users be like normal people?
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Other business are like Apple. Everyone tries to give out store credit instead of refunds. Most people don't take it.
- Aoki3, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1Leave it to Digg to praise Apple when they're denying your store credit to be used on anything useful like an iTunes card. It's pretty obvious that the only reason they're doing this is that a) they don't think an awful lot of people will use it, and b) they'll end up making more money in the long run once people use the $100 towards an expensive product. As said before by many people, Steve Jobs is not your friend and there's a reason that he's rich and you're not.
- csopelario, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, since i bought two in the beginning, i guess using 200.00 for some iPod Touch goodness wasn't worth it? You loose buddy.
- b16madman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Anyone else wish they could use the 100 rebate towards an 8gb iPhone if they previously purchased the 4gb? I spoke with a CS rep earlier in the week about this to see if it was a possibility after he'd said something about it. My phone is actually being replaced this week b/c the four bottom buttons quit responding to the touch. :(
Is it wrong to hack the loaner iphone?- scoobycarolan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Totally! Send it back to them unlocked with NES on it! The next person that gets it will be stoked
- superjunaid, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I'm saving up my $100 credit towards the new Leopard. That would go nicely on my MBP!. Apple you definitely ROCK!
- Timan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can buy Student ADC for 99$ and get 500$ off that MBP ;)
- runnin17, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you are a student, you can get Leopard for $75 I believe.
- Wang, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2w00t :) even worked with my "true" pre-pay simm card (gophone) that i took from a cheap $9 at&t phone....even bypassed activation, lol but this credit still works :)
- RichardKMorgan, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0Okay, walk me through this -- Apple takes us for two hundred dollars by dropping the price two months later, then "refunds" us one hundred dollars and gives us one hundred dollars of "in store" credit. No offense, but I'm not stupid. Us early adopters got kicked in the nuts and are being told that it was just a "love tap."
- Wang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree, but this is something back at least. I'm annoyed that I can't use this on itunes etc though....
- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3did you think the price was going to stay at 600 for ever? I pay my 600 plus tax and I knew that it would probably go down and even a 2G iPhone could be in the future still. it was MY decision... same story when you buy a computer or tech devices...
- NoodleMap, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You did not get kicked in the nuts. You were willing and ready to pay the money for the phone when it came out. You shouldn't get ANY refund IMO. So shut up and enjoy. Can I get money back when my 2006 model car value drops because the 2007 or 2008 models come out? Hell no.
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Get up to speed, will ya? They could have just left it at that: A price drop. Do you still need a 'walkthrough?'
- Squeeky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Just ordered a replacement set of earbuds, a set of crystalfilm LCD covers, and a nice fitted leather case to replace my cheap Griffin one (good case, horrible quality clip, read some reviews on the site.)
$98.39 with 2 day shipping. - jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1So basically , Apple gives you 100 bucks to then spend on something that cost them 20 bucks to make.
So in reality its more like a 20 buck cash rebate.- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Except that I as a buyer, am saving $100 on something I buy. How is that not a $100 rebate?
It's like saying that because the cost of the food you bought at the store is half of what you paid, the store trip only cost you half. Go to your bank and argue that you want your money back for everything you've ever bought to reflect true cost. - StrikerObi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Or you could spend it on something they sell but don't make, like any number of accessories...
Why are people so upset? The Apple hate never ends. - scoobycarolan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yes assclown. its called a free market economy. I can decide what I feel a products value is and how much I'm willing to spend on it despite the cost of manufacture. dick
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's Jabberwolf, the Apple-hating troll! Haven't seen you for a while. You're slipping. "Basically," If you're going to talk about wholesale costs versus retail prices, you need to do that with every company then, guy. The price you see on the tag is what the company thinks it's worth, and as a consumer, it's your right to decide if you agree.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Except that I as a buyer, am saving $100 on something I buy. How is that not a $100 rebate?
- jcdickerson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Fantastic UI, well designed process, and I used the credit to get AppleCare for the Iphone and $20+ off iWork - Only thing I'd change was show on the confirmation screen where you use the code on the online store (you have to go to the credit card/payment page). on the final confirmation screen.
- kvaldes44, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I want a Macbook Pro
- merlin77077, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Only 19 more rebates to go!
