- ParsleyMe, on 02/27/2008, -10/+185Finally.
- Fraff5, on 02/27/2008, -4/+93I hope Apple doesn't make the developers charge money for applications. Some of them just want to give it away free, that means pretty much everyone who already makes apps for Jailbroken phones.
- colincornaby, on 02/27/2008, -2/+54I doubt Apple will make people charge for their apps if they don't want to. I think we'll see a lot of free apps. It should be possible to load signed apps into iTunes just like you can manually load a firmware update in. Besides, free software helps Apple sell more iPhones.
- kRITek, on 02/27/2008, -3/+55Roadmap sounds like more planning and delays, not a release. =(
- jkr801, on 02/27/2008, -10/+59if apps are expensive thats going to suck balls
- cloudcity, on 02/27/2008, -8/+52I don't want Flash.

I want the option to have a "Today Screen" that shows my current schedule, task list, and weather outlook
I want to use a Bluetooth Keyboard with the iPhone
I want to record short movies
I want a simple voice recording app
I want 10 simple, networked, mini-games, similar to the excellent ones that came with The New Adventures of Mario for the DS - thesparrowband, on 02/27/2008, -3/+46if its not released by march 6, im jailbreaking. i've waited long enough
- cleverhanz, on 02/27/2008, -3/+43I want all of that, but I want flash too.
- StiGUP, on 02/27/2008, -5/+45well i'd say this is about 248 days 14 hours 4 minutes and 39 ...40 ...41 seconds overdue....
- coachmcguirk, on 02/27/2008, -2/+28You can't trick me..
You said:
"SDK by end of February" Not "Invites for SDK by end of February"
Still, it's good news, and I'll take it. - diggapleeeze, on 02/27/2008, -2/+28Must have IM client like Adium for free
- blackjack75, on 02/27/2008, -2/+22I am looking forward o a RAZR emulator on the iPhone to really have the perfect experience ... in frustration.
MMS is just e-mail done wrong. - MihaiM, on 02/27/2008, -0/+19You can Jailbreak and restore as many times as you like until march 6.
- meghalc, on 02/27/2008, -4/+23Just release the freakin SDK! Stop teasin like a little girl...
- mlavergn, on 02/27/2008, -2/+20What are you talking about? Apple includes the OS X IDE and SDK with every Mac, no royalty / licensing fee involved. You must be thinking about a certain other company in Redmond WA with their IDE / SDK not included policy and their pay per use "certified for" program.
- the_snitch, on 02/27/2008, -5/+22wow, apple finally mentions the "e" word. Maybe they are getting serious to push iPhones into the corporate enterprise to compete with WinMo and Blackberry. I wonder how they will manage exchange push email support though?
- melllvar37, on 02/27/2008, -8/+25Apple iPhone SDK Event - March 6 - also Apple iPhone SDK Release ?!
- ChzPlz, on 02/27/2008, -3/+19greathair's profile picture - sweet jesus - my eyes
I NEVER want to see that again. - inactive, on 02/27/2008, -1/+15Oh my. I have never before heard this argument. This is a completely new complaint. How come no one else thought of it before you? You must be a genius.
- iChopPryde, on 02/27/2008, -1/+15Well if apple wants to make apps cost money then I beleive we will all be sticking with installer.app ;)
- bawpcwpn, on 02/27/2008, -1/+14Maybe they will offer them up like Podcasts. You have to grab it through iTunes but the file can be hosted on your site.
- J3R3MY, on 02/27/2008, -2/+14Great apps have already come to the iPhone.
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -4/+16And, hopefully, that something is that all other phone manufacturers are dumping that horrible, horrible "feature."
- eshiki, on 02/27/2008, -4/+16Soo... The people that sell our coffee are the people that will be writing the apps?
- MCA2142, on 02/27/2008, -0/+11I work at Starbucks.
The meeting we had yesterday was indeed for company training. The apple training is scheduled for next month. - MellerTime, on 02/27/2008, -3/+14Because those are directly from Apple, not third party developers. We're talking about apps developed by 3rd parties, just like the hundreds (thousands?) developed for jailbroken iPhones already.
- subliminalurge, on 02/27/2008, -1/+12So, tomorrow then?
Oh *****. She told me not to tell you. Oops. - the_snitch, on 02/27/2008, -1/+11It's code language for "exchange", which most businesses use for their email, and like it or not, has become the standard.
Apple released iTunes for Windows because 90% of the market has a PC. To enter the enterprise market, Apple needs to become compatible with exchange. - subliminalurge, on 02/27/2008, -4/+14That's just ***** stupid. I know several people who work for Starbucks. They were definitely in a training session last night.
- zephc, on 02/27/2008, -0/+9March 6th is just really, really late February.
- harryterry, on 02/27/2008, -0/+8umm...do little girls tease you? you sick *****
- adammharvey, on 02/27/2008, -4/+12well i just rsvp'd
- Eallan, on 02/27/2008, -0/+8Never understood the fear related to it.
- Smoozle, on 02/27/2008, -1/+9There is no official and public iPod games SDK. Those games are developed only by Apple or select few third parties (i.e. PopCap and EA). There is no reason why iPhone apps cannot be distributed like podcasts - through iTunes, all collected in a central, searchable directory, but completely free (or for a price, if the developer of the app wants).
- MacParrot, on 02/27/2008, -2/+10You actually expected jabberwolf to be objective about anything related to Apple?
- protonone, on 02/27/2008, -2/+9In my opinion, I think it would be up to the developer to decide whether people will have to pay or not. Super powered business apps will probably cost you something, whereas an app to instantly buy starbucks is going to be free. Either way, I'm pretty excited to essentially be carrying around a mini-laptop in my pocket.
- superkendall, on 02/27/2008, -0/+7Got news for 'ya, iPhones are all over the enterprise already. This will just help the poor IT staff that keep having to explain why the corperate exchange server does not work with the iPhone yet...
- digjam, on 02/27/2008, -1/+8You see I can "JAILBREAK"!
- EllimistX, on 02/27/2008, -0/+7Sorry to hear that while you're posting this comment, your wife is out back with the pool guy...
- Drax0n, on 02/27/2008, -0/+7Do you really think apple cares about market share? They are a for profit company, and the truth is in 1 year they have made more money than WinMo has in its entire product lifetime. iPhone has already beat WinMo where it counts, money made.
- coachmcguirk, on 02/27/2008, -1/+8Excellent, then thank you for commenting.
Anything else you don't care about that we should know? - MacParrot, on 02/27/2008, -1/+8Because it's free advertising. If Apple had just released without fanfare, no one outside of tech would have cared. Now, media outlets talk about it AND the iPhone without Apple having to spend a dime.
- reqage, on 02/27/2008, -0/+7If they did charge for apps, I'm sure the third party app crew now can probably copy any application that apple tries to push.
- matperk, on 02/27/2008, -1/+7Well could just be they see the release of the SDK the first day, and further down the road (when stuff is actually developed?) the app relases.
- gamerzworld, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6Killer as in kills the phone with it's bugs?
- blackjack75, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6They're probably going with a digital signature forced on everyone. Let's hope this works better than it did on the Symbian 9.0... (it really made creating freeware more difficult for any student just wanting to get out a simple app).
- dduke83, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5you're kidding right? the iphone has already passed winmo in market share. do your homework before you go spouting off on digg, fanks
- cloudcity, on 02/27/2008, -1/+6What kind of things do you want to view with flash that would make it worth the massive power drain? Honest question, maybe I will want it to, but right now, I can't think of anything. At first glance, it would game development easy, but I would rather use the SDK for more precise control over the multitouch aspects of the UI...
- h3smith, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5every week in Feb was killer hoping it would be released!
- Pallas, on 02/27/2008, -2/+7I think a lot of you are not reading what the invitation says clearly. It only says "learn about the iPhone software roadmap, including the iPhone SDK, and some exciting new enterprise features."
I believe Apple may be delaying release of the actual SDK and apps for a somewhat longer period of time, and merely holding an event to announce their *schedule* ("roadmap" in corporate-speak) for future SDK release and plan for how applications will be distributed and controlled.
This may turn out to be a stupendously disappointing event for many expecting something more concrete, and may turn into a real PR problem for Apple if they don't intend to actually release the SDK next week.
I hope I'm wrong, but only time will tell... -
