- kkiran, on 08/20/2008, -10/+92Why only Apple, why not ATT and their 1.5Mbps limit while friends from Japan, Canada, UK are cruising on 3G?
- achinda99, on 08/20/2008, -16/+82I really hope this goes through. My 3G speeds are abysmal. All we want is what was promised.
- dukeeeey, on 08/21/2008, -1/+43apple is a fan of your wallet
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -7/+44What happened to the good old days, when people would just return stuff they were unsatisfied with?
- unii, on 08/20/2008, -8/+44Simply put ... If you created a product that has a problem whether you know it or not. Man up, be a real company that acts with Integrity and fess up and get it fixed.
If it was an honest bug that you were unaware of, fess up, fix it, and if people want to be assured it isn't a hardware problem... Speak the ***** up and assure them w/ facts that it is not.
Nvidia anyone?
http://gizmodo.com/5037070/proof-nvidia-desktop-g8 ...
Look at the crap they put out there and tried to cover up with regards to their flawed video card chips (overheating due to incorrectly spun hardware). Everyone knows why they were elusive.. because its h.w and it costs money… Well, guess what? Next time slow the hell down and don’t try to push immature products to market in order to be the first horse out of the gate - Apple can take cues here…. If it was an honest mistake .. Fine, but fix it no matter what it cost and don't be idiots who cheap out next time during development thinking their wont be consequences
My nice 2006 honda civic si, look at the crappy transmission bug it had that Honda tried to cover up and didn't admit to some 2 years later :
http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/mechanical-problems ...
And o’ by the way, it was present in even early hondas as it was the same transmission.. Those people were lied to even more.
It's time companies fess up to the products they release and are held accountable for it. What the hell is happening to the world? No one is acting w/ one ounce of integrity or accountability for their actions or products. The cycle is as follows : get a loyal base of customers or make it so you are the only dog on the block by making proprietary shat or good products.. Once you have a good customer base shat on them and profit big time… Once people start fleeing attract them back w/ cool goodies and good products [Repeat]..
Honda, Apple, Bose, the list goes on… this is what happens when profits drive your business…
As for testing AT&T?... Who stepped up and said it was a bug w/ the firmware? Apple….
It is dam clear it is not AT&T and any person who has done their research would know that this problem is present all over the world.. Go to macrumors.com.
I can’t wait to find out the results of this and as an iphone 3g owner inflicted w/ this problem I will be signing up too and if a fund is started I have some extra g’s to toss their way. I am simply sick and tired of this shat and its time a lot of people grow a spine and some dignity and stop taking up A’ at every turn they can get. You are a free human being with free will… You are a consumer who is in control because you have the $$$...
Start acting like it ! - robshoy, on 08/20/2008, -16/+47They'll settle. Apple doesn't have time to deal with... "people".
And I'm an Apple fan. - IphtashuFitz, on 08/20/2008, -2/+33Because it's Apple that most people bought the phone from, and it's Apple that has been doing most of the advertising of the iPhone. Add to that the fact that Apple has implicitly acknowledged that the problem is with the phone (and not the AT&T network) and that firmware updates hope to fix the problem, and all directions point to it being Apple's fault.
Of course that's not to say in this litigation friendly country of ours that somebody won't eventually file a similar suit against AT&T. - echo2501, on 08/21/2008, -5/+35My 3G speeds have been really bad lately, and I'm using a Samsung Blackjack. I blame AT&T and not being able to handle the spike in 3G users.
- SpookyET, on 08/21/2008, -1/+27Dude, you don't have 3G. AT&T are rubbish. The entire cellular infrastructure in US is rubbish--4 years behind Europe and 6 behind Japan. In Europe, 3G means almost 4Mbps, not 700Kbps like AT&T. In Europe 3G means video calling. Where is video calling here?
It's not Apple's fault. It's the bloody infrastructure. The commercial showed you the iPhone working via WiFi, not 3G. - trestevenson, on 08/21/2008, -2/+27Two words: service contracts.
- GruntboyX, on 08/20/2008, -6/+30Lets get one thing straight, this is going to be a much bigger deal than scratched Ipod nano's.
They tried too hard to milk some cost out of the device and went with the cheapest chipset they could get their hands on. The end result is not only a huge field issue, but really pissed off users they hope to buy more Apple products. This wont effect any of the fanboy's loyalties, but will definitely make the average person think twice about the device. Especially since there are some really good alternatives coming to market on better networks. - jjustin01, on 08/21/2008, -2/+20My old Blackjack, which is 3G, has crappy reception on the 3G network. It had slow 3G data speeds. Its battery life was horrible and it would drop calls all the time when switching from 3G to EDGE.
I am not saying that Apple may or not have problems with the 3G chip software stack, but I am betting AT&T has a lot to do with it as well. That's just my opinion though when comparing my 3G performance on the iPhone to Blackjack. - hagfish70, on 08/21/2008, -3/+18I buried for the extra HA. I mean learn when to quit, dude.
- dcharti, on 08/20/2008, -6/+21It is indeed a bit strange to go after just the hardware manufacturer, and not look at the networks at all. If there's faulty hardware in the iPhone 3G itself, that's one thing, but I suspect the networks as well—if not moreso—for not being prepared to handle demand.
- pell, on 08/21/2008, -2/+17Really? Where is this written, I am definitely curious!
- gllopc, on 08/21/2008, -6/+20What? No Blackberry love?
BlackBerry Bold Plagued by Same 3G Problems as iPhone
http://gizmodo.com/5039611/blackberry-bold-plagued ... - ryanhayn, on 08/21/2008, -1/+15I live in Hawaii...land of grass shacks and palm trees..and I get great 3G reception. Maybe AT&T is more at fault than Apple is?
- duibhir, on 08/21/2008, -3/+16Yup, same issues. T-Mobile and others in Europe have said publicly that the 3G's reception is sub-par and they are awaiting a fix.
- phrozted, on 08/21/2008, -4/+16Americans like their lawsuits, but not every lawsuit is bogus. This one happens to make perfect sense. The problem is clearly real, and even more clearly nationwide. iPhone performance in Britain is irrelevant.
- Ampidire, on 08/21/2008, -1/+13No mention of horribly cracking cases, dead/stuck pixels, messed up screen brightness issues, issues with Apps and horrible lag while typing on the keyboard?
Once Apple gets another set of Black 16GB service phones in, they're to call me to come in and pick it up, it'll be my 4th iPhone 3G. I spent 9 hours in the Apple Store on launch day sorting out issues over the phone with AT&T, heck, they gave me pizza from the employee break room and even let me use their bathroom instead of having to go out into the mall to do it. Also most of them know me by name/story now and everytime I come in they welcome me and ask what's going on with the phone etc.. They're really trying to take good care of me and I know it's not their fault that the plastic keeps cracking at the dock connector/headphone jack/silent key, it's just a poorly made device, or at least the plastic sucks. I only had the 'bubble in screen' issue with my 1st gen phone, and now that thing has been sold...
I love the phone as a platform, it's easily the best and most fun phone I've ever owned, a phone I've actually *wanted* to use, but it's plagued with issues that really do need to be fixed. Shoddy 3G even in Seattle/Bellevue, and everything else I've mentioned above would be a good place to start... - inactive, on 08/21/2008, -3/+15Take it back to the store.
- t3rmv3locity, on 08/21/2008, -1/+12I wonder what we are going to learn about AT&T during this suit. If it is discovered that AT&T did this to lower network load some heads are gonna roll...
- crashingechelon, on 08/21/2008, -3/+14Well, I live in south texas and honestly I haven't had any of these issues that people have been complaining about with their iPhone 3G. My phone is constantly in 3G and very rarely drops to E. I've tested loading websites on my friends iPhone, which is a first generation, and my 3G one flies in comparison. Unless they can prove that it's actual hardware that is causing the problem I don't see Apple at fault here, I see ATT having the main issue with being able to provide reliable service.
- t3rmv3locity, on 08/21/2008, -4/+14buried for the 'HAHAHA' part.
- bjornski, on 08/21/2008, -0/+10With what you're paying for it, you better not!
- yabos, on 08/21/2008, -2/+113 words and a number, 30 day return policy.
- lukelucas, on 08/21/2008, -1/+9just to chime in...
i live in Montgomery, AL, about an hour+ south of Birmingham and my 3G speeds are right on spec, if not a bit higher most of the time. the idiot should be suing ATT, not Apple. most of the folks i follow on Twitter here in Montgomery are getting the same great 3G speeds i am. my friends in Bham... not so much.
my 2 cents. - phrozted, on 08/21/2008, -2/+10Those days died when marketing campaigns started promising more than they could disclaim in fine print.
- Bhatch514, on 08/20/2008, -5/+13how about people that are not on AT&T do they get the same issues? I know my friends on Rogers and Fido in Canada are happy with the 3g signal. How about people in Europe?
- oMeSSiaHo, on 08/21/2008, -2/+10They also extended the warranty two extra years and are fixing the product for free. I also dont understand how Microsoft releasing a product with problems give Apple a free pass to do so as well. I thought the whole Apple fanboy thing was about Apple products being better then Microsoft.
The fact that your retard statement is being dugg up really kills all my hope for sanity and logic in this world. - cadmiumpaint, on 08/21/2008, -9/+17inaccurate title. they are just hoping it reaches class action status.
why aren't they going after AT&T?....they are the ones who have notoriously horrible service. - jbella, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7If they gave you a refund for you phone, what do you get from the class action lawsuit?
- bjornski, on 08/21/2008, -3/+10Well that explains everyone lining up around the AT&T stores, huh?
- duibhir, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6You bring up an interesting point. T-Mobile has noted that the iPhone has far more problems on its Dutch network than any other 3G phone. However, it has about the same number of problems as other phones on their German network. However, even Apple appears to believe the 3G has problems since a spokeswoman said in a statement today that they're working on a fix for the connectivity and speed issues.
- Lancelot9201, on 08/21/2008, -1/+7I disagree with your "fanboy" statement, beyond the fact that it wasn't necessary it also isn't true. I'm a long time Apple user / fanboy & I took my iPhone back & made them give me a refund. Plus, due to being really disappointed in Apple I couldn't see my way to buy an iPod Touch to replace my iPhone.
They don't deserve any of my hard earned money until I see a turn-a-round in their quality comtrol.
I will join this class action as soon as humanly possible & hope that other long time Apple users do too. - phrozted, on 08/21/2008, -1/+7Integrity with a capital I! Yeah!
- supermanred, on 08/21/2008, -3/+9Exactly, but it's only cool to bash on Apple... lot of Apple haters on Digg...just need something to do while they are updating their antivirus and defragging.
- Laminarcissus, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6Funny, though, how the 3G on my AT&T Tilt has been runny just peachy through this whole thing.
Believe me, I'm happy to blame AT&T, but in this case I just don't think they're the culprit. - chicagospur, on 08/21/2008, -1/+7"It's not Apple's fault." Apple chose to go with crappy AT&T instead of opening it up to other networks, so they get some of the blame.
The bright side is that my original iPhone runs a lot faster on 2.5G now that everyone else upgraded. - phrozted, on 08/21/2008, -3/+9Good to know. Finally comments containing information.
- phrozted, on 08/21/2008, -3/+8There was a day when a suit like this would've annoyed me. I'm still a fanboy, but I'm onboard with this rant. The iPhone 3g is a piece of crap, and so is Apple for selling it. It's funny--I always imagined Apple to be a kind of substitute religion for me. Turns out I'm not so sad after all, and I'll flake out fast if this BS keeps up. For once, AT&T is looking like the reliable partner.
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5I bet its a bit of both, apple probably advertised higher speeds .You know as well as i do that at&t can't handle the traffic, and they sure as hell won't upgrade the network
- gu0d, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6Hey you,
My name is Rick, and I am never gonna give you up. All of you have let me down, made me cry, and spent all day telling lies and hurting people. Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten this from any other guy? I mean, I guess it's fun knowing the game and playing it, but you all take to a whole new level. Inside we both know what's been going on.
Don't be a stranger to love. You know the rules and so do I. I'm pretty much perfect. I have been nominated for a Grammy, and had a #1 hit. What games do you play, other than "running around deserting people"? And if you ask me how I’m feeling, I also have a banging hot girlfriend (We’ve known each other for SO long). I just wanted to tell you how I was feeling. I gotta make you understand. - UU7a, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6http://www.mercurynews.com/apple/ci_10233228
Ny Teknik, Sweden's foremost engineering weekly, obtained a report on tests conducted by unidentified experts that showed some handsets' sensitivity to third-generation network signals well below the level specified in the 3G standard.
So-called 3G networks offer the promise of faster Web surfing on cell phone browsers, and make bandwidth-hogging applications like video calling feasible. Phones that access 3G networks must meet certain engineering and technical specifications, which are set and maintained by the International Telecommunications Union, a Geneva-based organization.
The report said the most likely cause of the 3G problems is defective adjustments between the antenna and an amplifier that captures very weak signals from the antenna. This could lead to poor 3G connectivity and slower data speeds.
Funny, I own a mac and use it exclusively and fanboys are ***** annoying... - notaku, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5Ministry for the win.
- quidpro, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5LOL. Not going to fix THAT with an update. The phone OR the fanboys.
- quidpro, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Nah. They have to make it to 3G specs. And they failed. And they sold it anyway.
- gllopc, on 08/21/2008, -5/+9There's a ***** of whiney diggers as of late. It's a frigg'n phone. If you don't like it, then sell it on ebay and buy whatever other phone makes you happy.
