- LemmingJesus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+33Time to get a life if you set your alarm to wake up for something like this.
- aaronmcdonald, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Get your credit cards ready...
- JlmAWP, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I know I shouldn't be interested, since I live in America....but dammit, I am.
- Spamcan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17This is the third Apple event in 3 months, how long can they keep this up?
- danielrh9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14There's a good chance that the Beatles on iTunes will finally be announced. It's been in the works forever and you KNOW Steve will jump at the chance to make the announcement in London.
- diggdean, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Get your bingo cards ready...
- KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I somehow doubt this is going to be a Leopard announcement.
Back in my day, Apple made computer systems too. - mlagana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6being interested in other countries... OUT of America??? What is the world coming to.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Or not.... it's not like anyone will have time to go to the shop and buy an iPhone through whatever carrier before work anyway. Just hit digg when you get to work and click one of the 27 stories that'll be on or around the frontpage explaining / dissecting / complaining and whatnot about whichever telco it is.
Definitely not worth waking up early for, and standing around for a couple of hours to get one is going to be a hard thing to justify to your boss. - batmant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"Over the last two weeks the new iPods have done remarkably well. Look at these numbers. Wonderful. Today...we're replacing every one of them. Boom."
- DeathJux, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5As I work there, the Regent Street store was ***** ridiculous all day today... I'm hoping for more than the iPhone tomorrow, but we'll see...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5i care, and i live in Australia. Blow that out your bung hole!
- podgey22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5> Europeans have been waiting in constant anticipation since June 29th
Have we? I don't give a toss if they release the iPhone here.. Why? Because Nokia don't bend me over and do be from behind when I modify my n95... And the n95 was free on a 18 month contract =) - otomo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Two words: Quad band. Read up on it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quad_band
It is a frequency, all it takes is a radio powerful enough to transmit at that range and others. But this costs more, the iPhone wouldn't be the first to do this, nor will it be the last if it does. - InSeverance, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is this whole "guarded boxes" thing true?
If not - then we're damned until Winter to get our iPhone fix.
Is so - I shall be picking one up on Wednesday :) - andr3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4You do know there's people from outside the US reading digg, don't you? Why shouldn't UK get an Apple Event? And I'm not even from UK, but that attitude will get you nowhere.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Only wake me up if the after hours stock price drops below 130 because of the announcement, whatever it is :P
- FlohEinstein, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dugg down since it's over - and we got no 3G. You can keep that version of the phone, Mr. Jobs, I'll be waiting for v2.
- sonycam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1We have a completely different mobile phone market to the Americans. Most new phones here are free on contract. Will be interesting to see if Apple decide to sell the iPhone, if so, for how much.
- otomo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1iPod invisa! YES!!! http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1211043467
- domyates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1/
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Time to get a life if you comment on digg, yet still call other diggers nerds.
- InSeverance, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Has anyone's local O2 shop been / in the process of being refurbished?
My local branch is current work in progress - maybe another demand from Apple as 3 definitely seem to have the upper hand in store aesthetics.
Unfortunately I don't think we'll be graced with 3G - O2 just aren't up to scratch, however I think we might see a 16GB model. - Jem2768, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Time to get an atlas if you think we diggers need to set our alarms for this...
- sonycam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wonder how Apple will take the European iPhone launch. In the UK at least, we have a completely different mobile (cell) phone market. Most new phones which cost $800 without a contract are completely free if used on contract (substadised by the network carriers). So if iPhone is seriously looking to compete, they won't be able to charge the same amount as the US release because people can get too much more for their money. I expect it to be locked to O2, but I don't mind that, there isn't really a 'hated' network carrier here like AT&T is, I would be using O2 anyway.
- domyates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yes we've been waiting with constipation
- Ellipsys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Something to keep in mind: To the best of my knowledge, Europe and Asian band 3G operates at 2100mhz. We run ours on 1900. This is why many imported phones that are supposed to be HDSPA, are little more than edge here. If apple is serious about an iPhone for Europe/Asia, then they will put the 3G capability on this band - thus making it useless for us to import. So feel angry we won't get better phones, or feel relieved that the ones bought all ready aren't totally obsolete.
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I dare anyone to replace that black and white apple flag with a pirate ship flag. If you squint it almost looks like one right now.
HARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There be European AYYYE phones in dar billy. - zitterbewegung, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3You mean set your alarms IF your an apple fanboy :-)
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Can we start piling "In before..." comments along with "I Call Shenanigans", "I like Turtles", "...But Will It Blend?" etc? Please.
- DeathJux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not sure what you mean by "guarded boxes," but there have been massive shifts in the floor displays, including the re-appropriation of rooms normally used for other things, so I wouldn't be surprised if the guards were guarding more than the set-up for tomorrow's event.
- mobilehavoc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Lets hope they don't wait until the end of the day to release the next iPhone update
- InSeverance, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Read some rubbish (somewhere) that there were some very secure boxes - bog standard I guess.
May pop-down after work and potentially spend too much money :( - erikhensarling, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Wake me if they say anything about Leopard. Yawn.
- rodzilla, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1mustache
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1...or a wannabe Apple fanboy trolling the Apple stories.
Just kidding man, I have recently switched and now run a macbook with os x and vista installed, but setting your clocks for a stupid announcement is uber retarded. - alperea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I already know what they're gonna do. The same thing as always. Just rename something that always exists, give it a shiny gradient, and call it a revolutioin.
- freaktheclown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Some highlights:
Q: Is unlocking a concern?
Steve: "It's a constant cat and mouse game -- we have the same thing with the iPod with music." Steve looks at Matthew, "Are we the cat or mouse?" 'We have to stay one step ahead of them."
Q: Were you aware that the iPod touch was coming out when you were negotiating the iPhone deal?
Steve: "Well, one's a phone, and one's not. The iPod touch is training wheels for the iPhone." Ha! Oh boy, that's rich.
Q: Why not 3G networks?
Steve: "The 3G chipsets are real power hogs. Handset battery life cuts power to 2-3 hours." Yeah yeah, we've heard it before. "Our phone has a talk time of 8 hours and that's really important when you want to use your phone for internet and music. 3G needs to get back up to 5+ hours, something we think well see later next year. ... WiFi is way faster than any 3G network. Energy efficient EDGE with better, faster WiFi. That's why we chose it."
Q: What are your plans for iPhone launch in Europe, and your reaction to upsetting other carriers who feel played-off in terms of not getting this deal?
Steve: "We said we'd be in a few countries in Europe and we still plan to do that. As to the carriers, we took the approach to see who would be the best fit -- it's like going out on a few dates before getting married. So yeah, we have a few upset girlfriends out there." - affanjam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1WTH.. Doesn't Steve Jobs know that Canada needs iPhone too!!
- britoca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0buried for "***** YOU JOBS!" Stupid non-environmental trend setting *****! Why don't u design ***** that doesn't brake or is upgradable instead of stuff that trequires a new purchase each time? ***** APPLE
- sundby, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2"Europeans have been waiting in constant anticipation"
We have? Really...? - atomicknuckles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i miss those times. :(
- atomicknuckles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0um, i already have one. so do a lot of people.
so i doubt it. - antdude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Who needs alarms?
- definetheline, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Is Gizmodo covering it this time? I know that http://www.cunning.tv is...
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1how about they announce the fix for the iPod Touch screen so I can buy it.
- bingo000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1How about giving the iPod touch an upgrade and lets call it an iPhone with 3G?
- fezzasus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Since you don't know what it is, it means whatever happens tomorrow it wont be available to buy straight away... which makes me question why they are keeping the store open later than usual
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1that really made me laugh!!! hahaha
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2In before more US Apple fanboys whining about 3G iphones.
