People would loiter hour just sitting there taking pictures with Photo Booth and browsing myspace. - GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -5/+251MySpace *IS* spam.
- HunterTV, on 10/11/2007, -10/+254Don't worry about MySpace. Remember Geocities? I didn't think so.
- moofer, on 10/11/2007, -3/+214First, Apple eliminates the floppy drive ahead of the industry...
Then, they include USB ports on all of their machines...
followed by an across-the-board move to LCD displays...
Blocking access to Myspace will hopefully be the next step in an industry-wide crackdown on crap. - AriaStar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+157Merced, read the article. People were taking pics using photobooth, sticking them on MySpace, and loitering for hours. The machines are in stores to let people test run them, not to provide free-for-all internet access.
"Heavy MySpace use was simply getting in the way of business."
The MySpace crowd is probably less likely to by a machine, so why should Apple foot the bill at the cots of losing sales from people getting fed up waiting to check them out? - Murdats, on 10/11/2007, -0/+126:O what if, in second life, you use the computer in the apple store to go into second life and go to the apple store.
dear god its a fractal, you could be trapped forever. - Lux7, on 10/11/2007, -55/+171The first good thing Apple has done.
*Embraces getting dugg down* - awhiteflame, on 10/11/2007, -8/+111Homeless is an ethnicity now, is it?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+107If anything, people should go outside and ***** ride a bike.
- nailPuppy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+103What will all the emo kids do?
- kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -4/+101I love going to the apple store then going to the apple store in second life.
- Aroundtown27, on 10/11/2007, -5/+101Cry maybe?
- Rekzai, on 10/11/2007, -2/+98I clicked my own ads at an apple store once.
- n8dawg87, on 10/11/2007, -2/+85When I went to the 5th Ave. store it was full of homeless looking people blasting underground rap at near full volume. Along with alot of people updating their myspace profile that were WAAAAY too old to be on there...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+86Cut.
- syafthegeek, on 10/11/2007, -7/+84Myspace full of spam. I hate spam!
- spearce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+74They weren't homeless. they were just wearing Mugatu's "Derelict" fashion line.
- msaleem, on 10/11/2007, -11/+74Well it is certainly good riddance. If anything, people should use Facebook (i.e. the mac-ified MySpace).
- alanmoo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+63Maybe if you had a knife, you could cut your way free...
- Murdats, on 10/11/2007, -2/+55well see, you open up your tubes and put a filter in it, where anything the shape of myspace comming through goes into a seperate tube, which dumps it into a bin, everything else continues as usual.
or you could learn how a network works, blocking sites is easy - mwhatley, on 10/11/2007, -3/+54maybe its me, but I cant wait for myspace to go belly up. Thank you apple.
- geecheegirl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+47Heh, and here I thought sleek and pretty Apple was banning Myspace from it's machines because it is just so UGLY it didn't fit with their aesthetics.
- SoldOutMatinee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+45Apple, how'd you do it? Somebody please tell me how to block MySpace on a Mac. My sisters are driving me insane because all they do is stare at their friends profile and they refresh every other second to see if they have new comments. Seriously, someone please help me.
- jersey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+43No, because these retards using myspace arent smart enough to know what a proxy is.
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+40Well, it's really paving the way. Soon, Best Buy and Circuit City will block MySpace. Then no-name "the back of radioshack" and other local computer stores. Then, the ISP's will jump on the bandwagon, until we're finally MySpace-free across the globe.
- psyamesekat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40And Digg is for..... ?
- TheSaladMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+38@GawtMilk

There's your answer. - dosle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33At work i redirected all outgoing requests to myspace.com to http://news.com.com/Stop+reading+this+headline+and+get+back+to+work/2100-1022_3-5783552.html
"Stop reading this headline and get back to work" - christopheles, on 10/11/2007, -1/+34Top comment abuse:
MySpace is a lot like AOL. They're trying to do everything Web 2.0 and failing in a spectacular display of animated gifs. - meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33I bet you havn't even reached drinking age yet
- guise, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32myspace needs to die
- dancraggs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+30Isn't it quite sad, though, that some people are so addicted to MySpace that they have to stop off at an Apple store and 'loiter for HOURS'? Actually scrap that, isn't it quite sad, though, that some people spend hours on MySpace full stop?
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33@chocolatebear
Please elaborate. How do I become an hero? - unitethenations, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32@alanmoo (#6880818) said: "Maybe if you had a knife, you could cut your way free..."
It's xkcd, people. - StanleyKoolPrik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27Fairplay seeing that MySpace is the harbinger of Armageddon and all.
- spiffytech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25More specific directions:
On the Mac, open the file /etc/hosts in your editor of choice and put this entry in:
"127.0.0.1 myspace.com"
Save the file. If it complains that you don't have permissions to do so, you'll have to figure out how to edit it as superuser (I'd give Vi instructions, but that's kinda complicated to use). After you've saved the file, open a terminal and type "lookupd -flushcache", and you'll be set.
For Linux, disregard the lookupd statement, the change should go into effect immediately. For Windows, the file is C:windowssystem32driversetchosts", and rather than the lookupd statement, go to Start -> Run and enter "cmd". Then, "ipconfig /flushdns". For all platforms, just enter "127.0.0.1 myspace.com" on it's own line in the hosts file. - olddirtycr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28yo mang cum un halp dat dj0rk
Jenadae you have the worst spelling and grammar I have ever seen in my life. - johnpaul191, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25BestBuy and CC do not allow "free for all" internet access anyway. hell, Best Buy does not even let you access the real web version of their own site.
it was cool that Apple allowed effectively unrestricted web access (i assume they block pr0n?). it's unfortunate people abuse it. i have stopped in Apple stores a few times when away from home to check email or look up some stuff online about the town i was in. it was a lot easier than poking around for open WiFi in some places. - jrocklin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24It's about time - the last time I was at an Apple store, I was looking at a new laptop, and a herd of 10-12 year old kids came in and were playing around in the store, pretty much taking up all the systems looking at myspace pages! I found myself looking at the system and trying to avoid getting kids thrown at me. And what did the store do - not a thing. I was almost going to buy a system from them on the spot, but the experience pretty much pushed me away from making any purchase greater than a connector from the local Apple store. Maybe this will change things...
- dondara, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23Well, that too.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27I prefer to launch pornotube.com and walk away... :D
- snotrokit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22myspace blows anyways. I look at our internet access logs, and it is unreal how much time people under the age of 30 spend on that thing. So, I lock it down to about 56Kbps through the composer. Gee, I don't know why that site is slow, must be lots of traffic kiddies........
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21i think what mwhatley is saying is myspace sucks and it's a good thing the apple store is blocking the site due to the loiterers, not that because a few apple stores are blocking myspace that myspace will come crashing down.
- darkmotion, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23Myspace is the scum of the internet.
- barrettg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20ALSO (Add these to the hosts file)

- drlha, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25Flag, congratulations your anti-Apple trolls are getting more subtle. I think even you can tell the difference between a cool place to hang out, and a place where teenagers loiter around, hogging the show computers, sticking their spotty mugs on MySpace.
