Who cares? It's what's happening in the tech world today. - lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, if it's on the homepage, it means that most of the community cares about it. Thus, your opinion is null, jesusphreak.
- übermensch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0between this and google, i really wish i could hear some of the conversations between balmer gates n' crew
- notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder what caused the jump in marketshare? OS X, iPod, Mac Mini, or something else.
- Woody, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In reality that isn't much of a headline. What's more amazing than any headline is that a company with ONLY 4.7% market share has as much influence on the market as it does. To me that is what is more amazing than any market share numbers.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wowsers, this calls for a celebration, Apple has surpassed a Chinese company in computer sales. Boy, that's somethin' isn't it.
- KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What is Micro$oft's marketshare?
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0>>> Well, if it's on the homepage, it means that most of the community cares about it.
So, 109 Diggs out of 50,000 is most of the community? - CatcherInTheWhy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft doesn't make computers, KidVicious. The real money is in software.
- mntpng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's going be really interesting is when about a year from now you'll be able to compare major apps like Adobe Photoshop running on Intel Mac OS X and Windows Vista on identical hardware. That's when we'll know with fair amount of certainty as to which OS performs better.
- scotsman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great - they deserve it! It should be higher...
- mercury81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh lovely maybe they'll hit double digits sometime in the next century.
- bunni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yet my stock is down today. It's OK, she's been good to me. ;)
- outerspaceapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, thats quite a jump. I think the last marketshare figure i saw was 1.8%.
- anonymoustroll, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This just in from the Department of Made Up Statistics Department:
A 37% increase in nothing is still nothing.
Wake me up when they've had 10 consecutive years of 37% growth; anything less is subsistence business (on a brighter note, maybe they could shift to becoming a non-profit or charity organization). - nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0*Yawn* Let me know when they reach 25% and maybe we'll have a story.
- repalmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i thought everybody figured out that "marketshare" as the amount of computers sold wasn't equivalent to "the number of macs in use." the problem that has always hurt apple is that their computers last so much longer than PCs-you buy 2 or 3 PCs before 1 mac needs replacing. I think I recall the actual number of macs in use as a percentage of computers in use was 20-25% or something.
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone else noticed that it's always the same names popping up with their anti-apple comments?
And before you try painting me with a mirror-image copy of this same brush, I'm not saying anything positive or negative about Apple. I'm simply pointing out that you can depend on some folks downplaying Apple at every opportunity. - saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great news, anyone that that bags Apple's success is really misguided.
- neuronbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did anyone else notice that the linked article is dated 19 July 2005?
I'm a Mac fan and AAPL stockholder, but isn't this old news? - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0woo hoo! only 4.7% definatly not the leet os make it out to be or it would have bigger market share...with a slew of patches being released the flaws in the os are stating to show.
- Cheirdal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple's on the rise. Look for their bankruptcy notice soon. ;) Seriously though, watch for it.
- gaius_baltar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks, John C. Dvorak!
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What I'd rather see is the numbers from the home PC market. Most of these companies like Dell ***** to huge companies that have thousands of PC's in their buildings.
- adam.lindsay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People can we please stop diggin' stories that I don't personally like or approve. Whine.
Read the headline, move on. If you don't like it, then too f*ing bad. Me, I am going to Digg this. 1) Cause I love Apple 2) I understand the point of digging what I like 3) I love pissing Apple haters of even more. - mushroom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now they can get that carpool van they always whanted
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"now they can get that carpool van they always whanted"
Ok, now THAT'S funny criticism (or whatever you'd call it)! :D lmao - repalmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>Apple's on the rise. Look for their bankruptcy notice soon. ;) Seriously though, watch for it.
dumb... apple is very profitable and has been again since they axed the clone hardware.
>Hi, I'm new here and I think apple sucks too
why did you think we needed to know that? - bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ooooooo... maybe they'll get up to 4.7000002% soon
- loubolb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe if they licensed their OS they could increase sales of their hardware.
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone remember their Switch slogan?
"3 down, 97 to go."
Actually, the best way for Apple to increase market share is wait for Vista to come out.
