- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -45/+186This makes sense. MySpace is ugly and Macs are beautiful... they don't want the ugly to infect the machines and disuade potential cutomers.
- cnt2infinity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+101With all the horrible background images and awful songs that most people add to their profiles, I am not surprised they have blocked it.
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -4/+93not to mention the number of profiles that crash the hardiest of web browers.
- koweja, on 10/12/2007, -6/+72I'm surprised they don't restrict the sites to a short white-list. It would seem that allowing everything (except myspace) would be a invitation for kids to constantly load obscene pictures and run off. Now, most Apple stores are designed so that you're in a big open area where you can more or less see any computer from anywhere, but you can't supervise everything all the time, especially when the stores are crowded.
- Adoozie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+70That would be a noun.
- Proginoskes, on 10/12/2007, -6/+67You're not being censored; you're being modded down for having nothing insightful to say. Explain to us why you think Apple Store is a cesspool and you're less likely to get buried.
- DisembarkedOne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62good, myspace blows
the last thing the need is some crappy song playing in the store becuase of someones addiction - silicondon, on 10/12/2007, -8/+63at first I read this and started to laugh at people who are addicted to myspace, then I realized I'm addicted to digg. The shame...please, downmod me, I can't bare to have you look at me.
- jarcoal, on 10/12/2007, -54/+107i think restricting their machines is a poor idea if they are trying to sell to potential switchers. people like to look at content they're familiar with, just to make sure it appears the way they want it to. restricting the machines also just makes things feel limited.
- faddat, on 10/12/2007, -15/+57Such a good adjective for myspace.... cesspool! I'll keep that one in mind for the next time that PoS shows up in conversation.
- Vesty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36its not because its mainstream, its because of all the crap people put on it thinking its cool, such as music, tons of picures(and animated), and crappy/eye hurting colors
- Chrelion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Oh man, I love Apple ten thousand times more now.
I work for McAfee, and the most gratifying part of my job is when parents call in asking for help with blocking MySpace. I feel like I'm doing something good for the universe. - culebra, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36I predict myspace will come crashing down in the near future. It's current userbase will get old and have no time for it. Any new users will be sure to go to a COOLER and NEWER service, which is a classic manuver for kids. Rupert, you bought a dud my friend. I blocked myspace a long time ago at my work.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Good for them, the only reason the apple store near me is always packed is because of all the 13yr old mall rats lounging around checking myspace. Seriously it gets rediculous sometimes, you know none of them are in there to buy a new mac.
- Dag_Yo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Warning: turn down your speakers and prepare to vomit all over your keyboard after looking at the background (nothing offensive, except a few swears, awful music and a horrible animated .gif background which will make you woozy). Tip: Alt-F4 will end the pain.

(not mine) - panique, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30dangit! cesspool.com is already taken. i was prepared to grab it and point it to myspace.com as a prank.
- Ralphy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25It's thier company, let them block whatever sites they wish to.
- MyNameIsFred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24@cphuntington97 ... My friend would never buy a mac because the display models always had more ram than the default configurations for sale...
:-) I assume your friend is never going to buy a new car because the show room models are always loaded with options. Or never buy a new home because the model homes are always loaded with extras. Has he been in America long? :-) - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25It's not just that you're saying something bad about apple, it's that you're saying a flame without any support or reasoning behind it.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Mmm, the "block user" button never tasted so sweet.
- dsander, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22having access to certain sites is not going to be a determining factor whether or not someone is going to purchase a new machine.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Mention of Apple + Making fun of Myspace = DIGG DIGG DIGG!
- dromeditor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19 That's not a bad thing...
Being addicted to myspace is like being addicted to Lifetime, whereas being addicted to digg is like being addicted to the discovery channel/history channel - BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19berean, Proginoskes is right. Your comments are not buried because you are anti-Apple; rather they are buried because they make absolutely no sense. You had a chance to redeem yourself by answering Prog's question: Why is Apple a cesspool?
Here is another chance to end you silly game and add some insightful dialog to this thread. - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23I HATE CAPS LOCK
- falcoboy7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I've seen kids put up sites and run off - the Apple guys go over and close all the windows right away.
- bseaver, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Good! I think everybody should block MySpace.
- Fantt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I was at the Apple store in Chandler on Saturday. I watched as two teenage girls went up to the mac connected to the gigantic monitor and the first thing one of them said was, "How do you get this to connect to MySpace?"
Actually, it was more like,
"OMG! That monitor is like, so huge! OMG! How do you get to MySpace on this? OMG!" - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21Dugg for the "cesspool" remark!
- Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13whoa. I wish we could "bury" that page.
- notfred, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Sadly, if someone has a comment with -56 diggs, I'm just as likely to be curious enough to "expand comment" because I want to see what the fuss was about. So much for burying comments.
... sort of like slowing down to examine a train wreck. - istumbler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13mycesspool.com seems to be avaliable...
- captaindan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14MySpace is a great place to get back in touch with old friends. I've found about a dozen people that I lost touch with years ago. Aside from that though, it's ***** stupid... and whenever I see someone using a photo from my site in their MySpace profile, I replace it with goatse.cx.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13WOW, I could actually feel the swirling of the cesspool and smell the stench to boot.
- theprez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@berean
Your comments have gone from completely useless to being spam. Wonder how many people it takes to kick a spammer. - xswag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13So I wasn't the only person that liked that word in the description of MySpace.
- ryan.mcmullin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I think myspace is the most aesthetically displeasing pile of crap I have ever seen, but that is beside the point. Also, the writer of the article makes the point that they are doing it for bandwidth concerns, which is also very much beside the point.
The reason Apple is doing this is because they want to sell computers. Apple is the only store in most malls that has computers with internet access, and for all these kids who seemingly have no parents and wander the malls everyday, it provides a place to check out myspace. However, these kids have absolutely no intentions of buying an iPod sock, much less a computer. Apple wishes to have these computers open to paying customers. Not pimple-faced teenagers with a myspace obsession.
Apple is blocking myspace for a strickly business reason, not out of some comment on the quality of the visual layout or content of the site. Case closed. - cinder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I wish my school would do the same. I walk into the library and see a sea of people browsing their friends list on MySpace. That's it. Just scrolling up and down, clicking next, and doing it all over again. Why?
Way to go Apple. Dugg. - mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9kevinwks: I'd uncollapse a comment that got so many negs because I'd want to see how big of a douchebag the poster is. In this case, it ranks up right near the top of that category where these losers seem to be proud of their level of douchebaggery and are oblivious to the real reasons why they're being buried.
- SideshowBob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Subverting MySpace one user at a time...you're truly providing a service to humanity. A digg for you.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Cheap bastards, go hog your own bandwidth. I can't say I blame them, it's bad for business to have people hogging your demo computer, and crowding the store. You might alienate a few people, but if they are hogging a demo computer they aren't likely to be buyers.
- redcard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Are you absolutely sure they are broken? Lots of Myspace sites look broken PERIOD.
- shockingbird, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Never view your ex's MySpage page. It will make you sick.
- chrismear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9God yes. We were in the London store a few months ago, about to drop 800 quid on an iBook, and just wanted to get our hands on one to have a final hands-on before committing to the purchase. Every single computer was occupied by people checking their webmail and browsing travel sites about London.
I'd be downright embarrassed to stand there for 30, 40 minutes, browsing personal websites, taking advantage of the place like that, and inconveniencing real customers. But, hey, maybe I was just raised right. - shoguning, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Actually Myspace is more like a collection of +70 million pages all saying "I wish I knew how to play a guitar".
- ckulprit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It is not about the design of the pages on My Space. I have been in many Apple stores and I always thought they should have not have been allowed to sit on the machines for as long as they had been. it is in the buying public interest to keep them off the computers. I plan on taking a trip to check out the new Macbook 17inch and I will be pissed to find a whole bunch of kids hogging the machines just to visit their obnoxious My Space pages.
- subject117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10That's awesome man...fighting the good fight!
- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13@UGM2099, reason for all reasons-
"My experience of Myspace.com is that it's a natural development of the self-obsessed vanity publishing. Showboating online to an equally self-obsessed audience of 'virtual' friends sounds like a valid past-time for naturally self-obsessed teenagers, but for anyone older than 20, collecting 'friends' in this manner is just desperate, sad, and a nod towards wanting to regain one's youth."
Also, I prefer not to suport Rupert Murdoch as much as possible. - Dag_Yo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10No, friend. I think I speak for many others as well when I say that my distaste for MySpace stems from a fervent abhorrence of its contents. The fact that MySpace is "mainstream" really doesn't impact my already unfavorable view of the "cesspool."
I don't like seafood either... just because I don't care for seafood does not entitle you, the Red Lobsterfarian, to automatically assume that I despise you. Quite on the contrary. Whatever floats your boat. If open-mindedness is elitist, then perhaps I'm a bit too high-and-mighty in your eyes. I'm sorry to hear that. -
