- lobasuu, on 10/10/2007, -6/+110The 160 gb version is a BEAST! 40 hours audio and 7 hours video playback? For only 349 bucks?!
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -5/+102Whoo, 160gb!
- Jedeye459, on 10/10/2007, -5/+81My MacBook only has a 60gb HD!
- j0hn, on 10/10/2007, -4/+71I'll need some quality shows from NBC in order to fill that 160 gigs.
- bfaulk04, on 10/10/2007, -2/+65for me... storage > wifi
THIS is what i'll be getting - NeoCortex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36Corrected correction... 160GB.
Now only if the 160GB was the new iPod touch, I would immediately be ordering one. As it is now, I'll probably have to forgo the touch in favor of an insane amount of storage space. - blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+34I heard NBC has just signed an agreement with the piratebay.
- Mossman85, on 10/10/2007, -4/+29160GB. 40 hour battery. I want it.
- springo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29So now we digg every Engadget article before it's even written?
- griz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19No, early adopters pay for their "I got it first" glory.
- fxspec06, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21Correction, 160gb. Look again, dumbass.
- ffleming, on 10/10/2007, -17/+34Hey, neat, another $400 product that idiots will buy even though their other $400 products work just fine.
- getrealnow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Can't wait to see how the people from Rockbox.org plays with it.
- griz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18I want the classic software in my 5G!!
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I think you two are talking about different things
- wafflesomd, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14160 gigs, that's seriously enticing.
- Sibre, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13I believe the correct phrase is 'cockbiting *****'
- srodolff, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Not unless iPod Touch storage capacity is GREATLY increased.
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I doubt it. For those who are still just using their iPod for music (and there are lots of us), the click wheel just plain rules. It's easily the most successful high-tech UI device since the mouse. And after selling 110 million of the things, I think Apple knows better than to mess with it.
- vileS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Can't speak for everyone, but my iPod is due for a replacement. Battery has been thoroughly loved, and the click wheel has bent upward from natural use. I loved the device so much, guess what, I'm buying another. What's wrong with that?
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13...I'm confused by Apple's website.
The nano holds "Up to 2000 Songs, 7000 Photos, 8 Hours of Video" at 8gb
The iPod Touch holds "1750 Songs, 10000 Photos, 10 Hours of Video" at 8gb
...funny me, I thought 8gb was 8gb. - tape250, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12I would guess that the iPod Touch says it holds less given that it also has to store the version of OSX in the memory, whereas the Nano doesn't.
- aussiekevin, on 10/10/2007, -12/+20Wow .. and it comes with what looks like a constant Starbucks advertisment, free of charge!
Yech ... - FredFredrickson, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Don't you ever... EVER... tarnish the good name of Star Trek with Apple fanboyism.
- blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You won't see this feature unless you're already at a Starbucks.
- ajgv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8ig-nant.
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Well, since this article is about the iPod Classic, I think it fits your demands pretty well.
- faxxy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Apple Tricorder - it's coming, eventually.
- OmniShinzui, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5My 3rd generation iPod, with 20GB that cost $499 at the time is due for an update. With the player getting 4hrs battery, and the "forgetfulness" that the hard drive seems to somehow happens (sometimes my whole iPod library will be gone, like it was formatted), the 160GB for $350 seems wonderful (especially Student Discount!).
- CapeKid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6It's not the hard drive to get excited about, it is the battery life. I am a proud Creative Zen Vision: M owner. Bought one because it had a much longer battery life than the old iPod 5th gen (and support for more video types). Mine gets about 3 and a 1/2 hours video and 16 hours audio. Which is what I needed. Though, on fairly long trips I wish that it had a bit more video battery life and even a bit more storage, because I need to delete stuff every so often. This new iPod looks like it is the be all end all of mp3 players and all at a reasonable price.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Not much different from the old, but I'll definitely be picking this up. I've always wished that they would make a video iPod with the same tough casing and screen that the 2nd generation Nanos have. I HATE having to mess with protectors. And of course it's only $250 but with 80 gigs and is probably even thinner than the 5th gen iPod. Awesome.
- JoyrexJ9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I'd say very, very unlikely - look at the firmware updates on older models in the past, they pretty much dry up soon as something new comes along.
- incubowski, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Dude, wrong story. This is about the iPod Classic. There is no Starbucks ad on it. Please go find the iPod touch comments section. (funny point all the same)
- abid786, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Patience is the best virtue.
- tdogg241, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What I want to know is whether or not the 5th gen owners will be getting a firmware update. I could care less about having coverflow, but shuffle on each submenu is such a simple feature that adds so much functionality, I have to wonder why it wasn't there from the start.
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4But how does the touch hold 10 hours of video, but the Nano only 8?
- llamabread, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your going to start lining up now? They don't come out until the weekend.
- naonao, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6http://www.apple.com/
Homepage changed. iPod family's getting a little crowded no? - prcpaul, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6i hope either apple smartens up and releases this. OR hackers find a way to put it on G5.5 iPods - because I doubt they're any different hardware wise (save for a bigger HD)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6This is > the iPod Touch by far.
The ipod is an mp3 player first and everything else second. If I wanted a PDA I'd buy one. 160 gigs of storage? That's 40k songs. For $350? Sign me the hell up! - kylesiue, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10And people bitch that microsoft has too many versions of things out at a time. The new shuffle, the old shuffle, the revised nano, the old nano, the mini, the actual ipod, the ipod touch....all within a couple years. Very confused.
- michaelwright, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why would you say such a mean, offensive, thing?
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3uh, "zune 2 is coming"
that sounds like an update to me. - GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Zune used to be excellent, but now that the iPod has WiFi I'd say there's no real point. Microsoft dropped the ball by not updating it.
- gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3because we all know it's true? Deep down, everyone knows it's the truth.
- buddhistMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A couple of years from now, we'll have 160GB Flash memory-based iPhones as the baseline model, but for now, the 160GB iPod Classic is a great complementary product for those iPhone owners who also have large music libraries. I love my iPhone, but I've got more than 80GB of music in my iTunes library, and I frequently find myself wanting to listen to an album that's not on my 8GB iPhone (half of which I'm using for video). The iPod Classic also retains an interface that can be manipulated one-handed, and doing things like rewinding a track can be done by feel with one click. I've been waiting for this day for a long time — if my car weren't in the shop right now, I'd already be on my way to the Apple Store.
- korashime2001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Flash Drives are increasing in size every three months or so. And they are much cheaper to boot.
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I do hope so.
