Lets help stamp out illiteracy on Digg. - dsendecki, on 10/12/2007, -10/+35Verbs a long way, too!
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31Leave alone he not fault writing sentences not make sense with missing!
- Chebyshev, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20For the problem about playing music while playing games or anything else that uses the sound card Apple says this:
"You are running any other audio applications that use Direct Sound output while listening to audio in iTunes. To see if the application is causing the conflict, exit the application while you are listening to Audio in iTunes or QuickTime. If the issue is gone you should consult the manufacturer of this application to attempt changing the output from Direct Sound to Wave Out to see if that alleviates the conflict with iTunes."
Basically "not our fault, even though it worked perfectly with iTunes 6." Thanks Apple.
Since having people using iTunes (presumably) drives traffic to the iTunes Store, you'd think they'd be all about good support for iTunes. Seems strange to me that they released such a crappy version and aren't doing much to fix it quickly, considering the profit to be made selling music. - adstretch, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23@ Moviespo
Punctuation my boy, goes a long way. - unsliced, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Serves me right for installing it straightaway - it also proves that Apple's testing regime just is not as rigorous or as broad as it should be.
For my installation, it required the uninstallation of another product (TotalRecorder - presumably to disable the ability to record the outgoing audio stream), the removal of the addition of references to files from without the iTunes folder structure (which swamped some of the smart playlists) *and* my nano still doesn't work properly - the number of tracks in some of the smart playlists are being under-reported.
Their multiple library idea of separating music from video from podcasts is bust too - it's really confusing how items will appear in smart playlists yet are seemingly invisible from normal searches.
Serves me right for not waiting ... - PGvildys, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12It could be because I only use iTunes for the store, for syncing my iPod, and for generating playlists, but iTunes 7 has been perfectly fine for me.
- richardlawler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Agreed.
I've run into many bugs with iTunes 7. I think people who are not seeing any bugs don't push this program very far. Apple has not done due diligence with this release of iTunes. Releasing a couple of tech notes saying "make sure the checkbox is checked" doesn't fix any of the bugs or solve the problem. To the contrary, it implies all the problems people are having with iTunes 7 are user errors. And they most definitely are not!
Also, Apple seems to have released the Windows version in a more fragile state than the Mac version. Apple taking their Windows customers for granted will not serve them well in the long run. Their success with the iPod and iTunes has been largely due to their finally getting their act together and supporting a product for the much broader Windows market. Don't let that go to pot, Apple! - zaxis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Apple is at fault, it's called "QA" (Quality Assurance) which they seem to be lacking. iTunes 7 runs so slow for me, and for some reason I have to leave it sync overnight?? just to update my ipod with 2 new podcasts??? Is anyone else having these issues on windows?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16Same here. The whole "Coverflow" thing is screwed up on mine, images are corrupt, and if I install or reinstall, sometimes its fine, sometimes its not. Screw that.
- KCorax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7> You can't really make that sort of judgment. The install base of iTunes is so huge,
This is a crappy excuse when it's given by Microsoft and guess what it's still crappy when it comes to Macs. - DrGamez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yeah so other than using firefox or checking my email, the only thing I'm allowed to do while listening to my music is: listen to my music. I don't want to go to Windows Media Player, or WinAmp, I just want iTunes to work like it has been for the past few years.
- BrickSprickly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Support, schmupport. They need to release a fix. Obviously. And they are soon, apparently. Even though I'm not really experiencing any (except the semi-lame implementation of Cover Flow), I can tell that there are issues. People aren't making this ***** up.
And what is this crap about "only a small number of people are experiencing issues; it's just that they are the ones posting in forums complaining"? I see that everywhere whenever there's a widespread issue with an Apple product. It's like an Apple talking point or something. When I was having issues with my brand new Macbook (and had to have my logic board replaced...surprise!), people kept spewing that crap when I pointed out all the others having issues.
Apple zealots remind me of right-wingers. Oh, the irony. - Eldoo77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6BTW, you are getting modded down because you used the word "Dell" in your comment. AppleHeads have been known to become raging mad when they realize that: Yes, you can get really good PC harware cheap, so long as you don't buy it from Steve Jobb$! Be glad that you did not have to pay the Ma¢ tax!
- Hardcase, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6You should read the article. It has a solution to your problem.
- brettotte1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31. It doesn't put podcasts in subfolders inside the Podcast folder in the library.
2. When playing a video podcast in a SEPARATE window it shows flashing green/white/purple in it & the only workaraound is to pause it, make it fullscreen via the button, click again to resize down to the original window size, then play. (if you make it fullscreen while playing it'll crash itunes everytime.) - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ummm yeah....would have been better if they did it right the first time!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I love apple but itunes 7 is one of the buggiest apple programs i've ever used :(
I've had two full system crashes with itunes 7. So bad I couldn't forcequit and had to reboot manually. - raven001, on 10/12/2007, -22/+24Apple needs to apologize for releasing the CRAP that is iTunes 7. It is practically a beta program. It makes your music sound distorted. I'll keep 6.0.5 for now thank you very much.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Now if only Digg would address the flag564 bug...
- dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Please explain to me how in the hell problems with Itunes could be caused by his ISP?
- adstretch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7that was supposed to be ended with a "/sarcasm" right?
I love macs, and hardly ever use my xp machines anymore, but damn itunes 7 was just not ready for release. The issues I'm having are minor compared to most people, but there were no issues with ver 6. Oh well, only my PB is afflicted with the scurge that is iTunes7. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who else would be at fault? Osma Bin Laden? Of course it's Apple's fault. People having problems should simply use 6.x for the next few weeks until 7.1 comes out.
- pyrates, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow, apple releases a product that is buggy and then proceeds to fix it later after its been released? Sounds like the strategy that Microsoft uses.
And don't you just love how all the previous apple stories on digg on these same exact bugs were all voted to be inaccurate?
Oh and I'm told if I mention Dell, the cheap but reasonably priced pc hardware maker, I'll get dug down. Digg me down mac zealots! :) - zacmccormick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sounds like what happens to almost every piece of software that has millions of users. The need to cater to every type of user and be an all-in-one app! Maybe Apple isn't all that different from MS afterall? :o
- DaceDiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@Moviespo
Are you Yoda's long lost brother??
Good article, I myself have not had any bugs yet, but friends of mine (to whom I said iTunes was a great program :P) have and this is a good way to save face ^_^
Btw, I didn't expect that the new version had no bugs what so ever. There is probably a update on our way with some fixes. - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I've had no problems at all with iTunes 7 on 3 Macs I have it installed on (Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and iBook G4), as well as on Windows XP.
There are a few minor annoyances I have with it (e.g. Music Videos doesn't have it's own sub-category, Compilations don't stay grouped in album/coverflow view unless sorted by "album"), but these are things that I'm sure will be fixed in future releases. - rypaintD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2HAHAHAAA. I was just going to say I had no problems with it when the music started playing all choppy like. I just paused it and then pressed play then it stopped.
- switched0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4any one have the issue where iTunes keeps playing the song but all sound stops until you hit play/pause or skip to the next song?? I looked this up on the apple forums with no luck fixing it!
- icepick314, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5FINALLY some official words from Apple....
i was beginning to think Apple didn't care about the customers....
although it would have been nicer if this came out couple days earlier....
i haven't had problem with sound on my Dell E1705 but the issue with Start menu in Windows XP is a bit annoying.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Full of bugs??? Say it aint so Stevie !!!
- hmemcpy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4What?! Apple software has bugs?! :O
/sarcasm - IVIrMP3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I only have a problem when using iTunes and playing GuildWars, when itunes becomes choppy but GW is perfectly fine. Mediaplayer doesn't cause the problem. And it's not my x-Fi Platinum either. Pure apple goof.
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The biggest problem(s) I have is that it's murderously slow to do anything, hogs well over 200MB of RAM just being open and eats 100% of both cores of my AthlonFX 4200 to even think about coverflow (or anything at all to do with video).
Bloated, slow and stupid is what this program has become. Apple needs to take the code back to basics and find out where they went wrong. They are programming like it's Redmond over there. Just throwing more code on top of more code. - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@JGeorgeson
"There are three ways to sort by album now: album, album by artist, album by year. Select album by artist for the sort, and make sure to check "Group compilations when browsing" in the General tab in the Preferences. This should treat compilation albums as "Various Artist" for sorting purposes and all you compilations should show up as you expect (they do for me)"
Thanks, I didn't see that. That helps a lot. Only problem is that it isn't sorting compilations in the correct running order, but hey, it's better than nothing! - meso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this link is useless...why'd i digg it?
iTunes has some good ideas, but bad implementation. Why does it still take up 100MB of RAM while in mini-mode? what's the point? - odaen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The difference is that iTunes doesn't actually do that much.
It plays music, syncs up to an ipod, has cover-art and an equalizer and supports automatic downloading of audio files and an integrated web-browser, cd ripper, cd burner, support for numerous portable devices, id3 file sharing, local area network sharing and dynamic playback and rating system.
Okay, so it does have a lot of features but that's no excuse for it to go slow. No matter how many features it has, it should be able to scroll normal list mode smoothely on a pretty average windows PC. Maybe apple should actually learn how to make PC software. I really don't think 'improved overall performance' is going to be a main feature in the next version.
Is there any of these performance problems on a Mac cause everyone who I've spoke to who has had a mac has had their head so far up Steve's ass they were kissing his pancreas to bad-mouth anything he threw up would be heresy in their eyes. - jimr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Major digg for helping to solve a problem I've been experiencing with iTunes 7 in WinXP. I've been getting the "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (0x666D743F)" message, and finally gave up and went back to 6.x. Looking forward to trying out proposed the solution tonight...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Where is the quality control at Apple?
- beezleb0b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you follow the link I posted, I was having the wierd purple/green video problem in a separate window and some tweaks in quicktime fixed it.
- monkeyrobot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4iTunes 6 was slow on my XP pc (1.8Ghz compaq laptop), but itunes 7 crawls and then dies.. this is the only app that does this. I'm guessing it's a compatability issue.
If there was any other program I could find that actually syncs with my ipod I'd be there.
It may even be worth ditching the ipod and getting a zune or anything that isn't so flakey. - cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Had mp3 players then iPods from the start but never have been an iTunes fan. For my desktop I use anapod explorer because it treats iPods like a HD, has a small footprint and moves files very fast. Saying that, I have a media type laptob and installed iTune on that to keep up with what Apple is up to. For me the latest v. of iTunes works ok.
- tastethevenom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Didn't work for me. Their two solutions were already implemented on my PC.
Maybe it has something to do with Quicktime Alternative... - jcjdoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Look, when you have a 4 year old and a 5 year old ready to double team you if you don't turn on the TV you make due with what you can. Anyway if the TV wasn't you would have heard...DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, .........NO
I don't have the equipment to remove the audio on my computer, it was done on a camera so I couldn't turn it off. Sorry for the audio guys - anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've had similar problems, but my main concern is that when I open iTunes 7, my entire 3 ghz system with 2 gigs of RAM slows to nearly a halt. The damned program sucks up about 98% of my processor. I can't even surf the web if I want iTunes open. Egads, I thought I'd hated iTunes 6 ... but compared to 7 it was total bliss. I so wish Amarok had a Windows port that would sync my iPod like it does under Ubuntu, I'd love to ditch iTunes for good after this fiacso.
Doesn't Apple bother to test their software before releasing it? - Benad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Release early, release often. This happens for 95% of commercial software out there, not just Microsoft and Apple. The problem here is that the Windows port was Beta quality and was rushed.
- Benad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is about iTunes 7, not the iPod firmware update. And next time, don't record the TV's audio in the background if you don't *need* the audio.
- chad3405, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does anyone else have the problem of iTunes 7 not putting their podcasts in separate folders?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They probably should have done a public beta first but I've had zero problems with iTunes 7 on my Mac or PC. I don't think it's a big deal. Revert back to 6 if you're having problems.
