www.windows.com - askantik, on 11/02/2009, -13/+545*yawn*
The Mac ads on TV don't say anything about what makes Macs good anymore... the only talk about how crappy they think Windows is. Heh. - schemp98, on 11/02/2009, -47/+512Stay Classy Apple....
- cecil1knight, on 11/02/2009, -84/+549oh noes! WIndows 7 destroyed my computer! Shouda got a mac.... just kidding Win7 is awesome. And I hate my macbook.
- piratearggghhh, on 11/02/2009, -26/+395Apple is like the stuck up but insecure I-used-to-be-fat chick of the computer world.
- DanteShamest, on 11/02/2009, -57/+416Try taking a screenshot on a Mac. (Print Scr doesn't work)
Or deleting a file in Finder. (Del doesn't work)
Or resizing a window (Only at the bottom right thank you very much)
Or maximizing a window (The green button only makes it as big as Mac thinks it should be)
Or showing the desktop (Where's my Show Desktop button? Oh press F11, that's intuitive!)
Or playing Left 4 Dead (Okay... that's a low blow... but Macs hate games) - mehan, on 11/02/2009, -9/+246"subtle swipes"?
they ain't really that subtle... - kingbinji, on 11/02/2009, -15/+227too bad nobody ever pays attention to those google ads
- Semprini, on 11/02/2009, -12/+182Just upgraded to Windows 7, super easy, works great. I can build a machine that is as powerful as any Apple for half the price. But, I don't look trendy.
Oh well. - bsonline, on 11/02/2009, -15/+181With 4 windows 7 machines and 1 Mac running Snow Leopard, my computer dollars have been split evenly. I'm out of town on business, the Mac stayed home and two 7's came with. I found more value (for me, productivity dictates) obviously with Microsoft.
With my bias having been stated, I've found every since Apple's "play nice for money" contract with Microsoft expired, they act more and more like a spoiled little child. I think Microsoft is the more mature company. They don't always glitter as nicely, but are generally the better choice... - larryjr88, on 11/02/2009, -44/+188Good companies have the quality of the product sell itself.
Apple, on the contrary, is only in business by tricking the consumer to buy their ***** by misleading them with factually unsound TV ads. Windows doesn't need to lie about Apple on TV or trick them into clicking misleading links. Windows sells itself.
Apple is a douchebag. - alazapram, on 11/02/2009, -10/+150Apple doesn't have a "marketing department", they have an ad agency called TWBA/Chiat/Day.
And I don't think the author of this article knows what "guerilla advertising" means. (Hint: Taking out a text ad on google is anything but "guerilla advertising".) - gaymathman, on 11/02/2009, -5/+139The quality of their agency's ads is starting to slip though. The think different campaign was definitely the high point, and the initial mac vs. pc ads were somewhat clever, but now they're just annoying. Add to this the fact that there really isn't anything bad you can really say about Windows 7 except that it's basically Vista with substantially better memory allocation and parallelism (although Apple can't go there as they've already derided Vista), and it might be time for Apple to change agencies.
- jv2k, on 11/02/2009, -6/+136Mac:Hi I'm a mac
PC:and I'm a PC.
Mac: Hey PC what zany thing are you doing now
PC: Well I'm *insert scheme to hide PC issue that is over exaggerated*
Mac*in smug tone*: But PC macs are perfect.
PC: *insert poorly worded rebuttal or regretfully agreeing*
The formula is starting to get annoying. I'm starting to hate macs simply because of how smug the ads are. - BookaShade, on 11/02/2009, -29/+144And the stupid college yuppie kids will wet themselves over this. Like zombies They will buy anything made by apple as long as it's shiny and exorbitantly overpriced.
- inactive, on 11/02/2009, -9/+119With 5% market share, they are still the unwanted fat chick.
- sauron256, on 11/02/2009, -12/+117Because if Microsoft were doing it, there would be outrage...
- ryanonfire, on 11/02/2009, -8/+110Kind of like McCain's campaign in it's dying days.
- DanteShamest, on 11/02/2009, -13/+114Konstantino: I use a Mac at work. My point is that Macs aren't as intuitive or easy as Apple advertises it to be.
And I don't charge you an exorbitant price to view my user name. :) - buddypriefert, on 11/02/2009, -4/+94I'm starting to get turned off by Apple for running their marketing campaign more like a political campaign that can only focus on why the opponent shouldn't be in office without standing on what makes them better.
"Because you don't have to have anti-virus software" can only add so much value. - SolidSnakeUS, on 11/02/2009, -6/+96I can say though, at least Windows isn't stooping to their level on Snow Leopard by mentioning that it deletes user data. They post their own products, effective commercials, no douchey celebrity commercials with unfunny comedy. Funny, Mac never says anything about what their operating system can do, it's pretty much like a stupid child who wants to point blame elsewhere so they can't be hurt. Seriously, it's like this
"Look how bad they are and we are awesome!"
"What can your OS do that Windows can't that makes it that awesome?"
"Uhhh... Uhhh... Windows has tons of headaches and not as slick." - Murrabbit, on 11/02/2009, -7/+97Subtle swipes at Microsoft? There hasn't been anything subtle about their advertising. . . well ever. It's all just "Hurf durf PCs are for spread sheets and stuff, here come spend twice as much for the same hardware only locked down so you can't modify and upgrade it yourself and you'll be super cool and artsy!"
- Peggles, on 11/02/2009, -17/+106Why would you buy a Mac to run Windows 7 on? Just buy a pc and you'll spend less not paying for the Mac "brand". Also, doesn't Apple want people to use their OS and not buy Windows?
- czarcasm, on 11/02/2009, -7/+91Our engineer/inspector absolutely despised his Macbook, he tried unloading onto me.
I was like WTF really man? REALLY? - inactive, on 11/02/2009, -8/+89Windows 7 kicks ass.
- harvinator24, on 11/01/2009, -52/+132They have such a smart marketing team over there.
- halo3d, on 11/02/2009, -12/+88Ahhhh... ***** you Apple..
My Win 7 is awesome.. - hoju7887, on 11/02/2009, -1/+75In your head...did that sound funny?
- Daniel591992, on 11/02/2009, -15/+83Start being classy, Apple...
- gwolf, on 11/02/2009, -13/+80"Why not", you ask, because it just makes them seem pathetic. How many products can you name where 100% of the advertising they do is to bitch about the competition. Win 7 must have somebody worried.
- DanteShamest, on 11/02/2009, -9/+73darkism: Your reply just proves that Macs it harder to do simple things .
1) More keystrokes than the Windows version.
2) Same as 1.
4) I should decide how big my window needs to be, not Mac.
5) Okay.
6) Boot Camp still needs a copy of Windows. And why would I buy an expensive Mac to run Windows? Crossover is basically WINE, and it isn't free the last time I checked. - Echuu, on 11/01/2009, -58/+115Hey, why not?
- Cerebron, on 11/02/2009, -3/+59I'd like to see Microsoft run a 1984 parody ad with Steve Jobs up on the screen and every black clad drone in the seats engrossed in their iPhones.
- Bartboy919, on 11/02/2009, -1/+56Holy *****, Ive been using both OS X and Windows side by side for like 3 years, and only now do i realize you can only resize mac windows on the lower right. WTF?!?!
- cawpin, on 11/02/2009, -9/+63I agree that Print Screen should take a screenshot but the screenshot utility in Leopard is far better than in Windows. However, Apple decided to ***** it up in Snow Leopard. You can no longer take a screenshot of a single window and you can no longer take a screenshot directly to the clipboard.
Deleting a file is Command Delete, on an Apple keyboard. Windows has it's own keyboard too.
Resizing IS stupid on a Mac.
Maximize USUALLY works by Command-click on the green button. It is dependent on the application though. Again, dumb.
I just use the Spaces functionality for showing the desktop, switch to a different space. - theonlywizdum, on 11/02/2009, -3/+57@gianpo
Lets start off with their "broken promises" ad. They made up a bunch of quotes that were never stated by anyone at Microsoft.
The "Rated Number 1 in customer satisfaction" is ***** when they apply it to Microsoft. Sure, they have better higher customer satisfaction than Dell (by about 11%), but the commercial wasn't focusing on Dell, it was focusing on Windows 7.
From the "top of the line" video: "Every PC you get is going to have viruses". Thats like saying "Every Chevrolet you buy is going to run out of gas", it is totally dependent on the user. And don't give me that "but its easier to fubar a PC" crap. A stupid user can and will find a way to wreck any computer.
Those are just the last 3 ads. - Zapple100, on 11/02/2009, -5/+59When you have nothing good to say about your product, you talk bad about their product.
- nerdromancer, on 11/02/2009, -10/+60As an engineer that regularly does work on a Macbook, I can say "yes, really"
Apple hates their developers. - Laminarcissus, on 11/02/2009, -10/+57Yeah, Apple are marketing geniuses.
They had two years of Vista, the biggest disaster in major operating system history, to make tremendous market share gains, yet analysts can't even agree on whether they went up a single point in that period. Some say up a little bit, and some even say they lost market share to an operating system with a perceived value right below Crystal Pepsi.
Terrible. - benitojuarez, on 11/02/2009, -2/+47Nirgaul believe it or not there are people that fall for the old, "check your windows folder, if there is a system32 folder YOU HAVE A VIRUS! DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY". Thats what those are there for. People bitch because it wasn't there, people bitch now because it is. You guys just make it impossible for Microsoft to satisfy you even when they try.
- caramelzappa, on 11/02/2009, -4/+46Again, if apple can stop bashing windows, which has worked fine for me so far, and just tell me WHY their product is worth the huge premium, I'll be interested. But if they can only validate themselves by bashing the competition, which as far as I can see has more software, support, and value, then I really have no reason to even consider buying a mac.
- theonlywizdum, on 11/02/2009, -10/+52"1. Command+Shift+4
2. Command+Delete, or RIGHT-CLICK and select "Move to Trash"
3. Granted, this is annoying.
4. It makes it as large as it needs to be. You can always drag the corner to make it unnecessarily larger.
5. Can be bound to any mouse button, key or screen corner you like.
6. Boot Camp, or Crossover if you don't want to waste money on Windows.
"
WOW, and people say linux is difficult to use. Good to know that a mac "just works" after you memorize a few dozen key combinations. - gaymathman, on 11/02/2009, -8/+49$1000 might be a little high; more like 500-600$ for a dell/hp. Still, all Apple products (save for the Power Macs) are ridiculously overpriced. The iMacs now also have absolutely atrocious video cards for the price and resolution (the best one can get is a 4850, which I recently purchased for 83$ as it's a great low-end card for moderate resolutions, but it's only available in a 2,000$ computer with a 2560 x 1440 display, far too much for such a card!)
- BeesKnees21, on 11/02/2009, -16/+56Don't bother migrating your data, Snow Leopard deletes it for you anyway.
- LoganT, on 11/02/2009, -29/+67Really, you hate your macbook?
- ReallyFunGuy, on 11/02/2009, -4/+41Actually that's a very conservative number.. For $1000 I can build a Windows-based PC that is comparable to a $2500 uncustomized Mac Pro (without OS.) So basically when you buy a Mac, you're either paying upwards of $1500 for an OS, a brand name, or both.
- EllimistX, on 11/02/2009, -2/+39more like: "Buying a Mac? Learn how to save over $1000 and have customization !"
www.newegg.com (Sorry, but newegg is just too good not to mention) - inactive, on 11/02/2009, -7/+43Yeah...Google has grown to be worth about $150 billion due to no one paying attention to their sponsored search ads.
- Zenicius, on 11/02/2009, -1/+37Mac:Hi I'm a mac
PC:and I'm a PC.
Mac: Hey PC what zany thing are you doing now
PC: I'm playing a game
Mac*in smug tone*: Which one?
PC: All of them.
Mac: :( - shanec1980, on 11/02/2009, -3/+36Apple is like Nike or any other clothing label. You buy the label and not the product and pretend to be "cool"
