- larryjr88, on 12/04/2008, -12/+248This is retarded.
People are reluctant to buy iPhones because of AT&T's ridiculously overpriced data/minute/text plans, not for the initial fee. - julianmaestas, on 12/04/2008, -5/+166doesn't matter to me, the monthly data fees are still too expensive.
- supdude, on 12/04/2008, -10/+170I smell another greeter trampling.
- jefjefjef, on 12/04/2008, -5/+95How about opening up the iPhone to more than just AT&T service?
- Platypus3333, on 12/04/2008, -2/+89$70 per month for phone service is not cheap.
- ryan83189, on 12/04/2008, -2/+72The catch is it only comes in a camouflage or hanna montana paint job.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 12/04/2008, -16/+84That price might actually do the trick for me.
- fowleryo, on 12/04/2008, -1/+66a lower entry cost can still blind some people
- MikeSetera, on 12/04/2008, -2/+63They could give it away for free; it really doesn't make a difference when the plan is $70 a month MINIMUM.
- chalkboy, on 12/04/2008, -1/+60Hahaha $70 is not cheap. They have you brain washed. $70 per month is an absurd amount of money to pay.
- u8myfoood, on 12/04/2008, -3/+59People always look at the price of the phone itself, but they rarely consider how much the monthly cost of the plan is. This is why the economy is in shamble, people never look to the future... Sure, $100 now, but that's at least $69.99 per month before taxes and fees, which equates to at least $75 a month, which is $1800 over 2 years!
That is a MAJOR commitment! - publiclurker, on 12/04/2008, -0/+43The kind that shop at Walmart.
- publiclurker, on 12/04/2008, -0/+37I guess "Too late man" is appropriate then.
- mattvander, on 12/04/2008, -5/+40the new razr. you sure will look "hip" when you are in a room full of iPhones.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -9/+39I will still go for it at 200 but at 100 it will really be available to the masses
- perrysalyer, on 12/04/2008, -4/+31Perfect idea.
There are easily more available Wal-Marts than there are Apple/At&t stores - sockpuppets, on 12/04/2008, -2/+27As a blind person I had to digg you up.
- Jwoey, on 12/04/2008, -0/+24That'd be the best birth control ever.
First born? Hell yea you can have it. - taxali, on 12/04/2008, -1/+24"Apple and Dell are the only ones in this industry making money. They make it by being Wal-Mart. We make it by innovation." - Steve Jobs, some time ago
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+23There might be some heavy commitment.
- julianmaestas, on 12/04/2008, -2/+23haha, i was about to be the "too soon!" heckler but you beat me to it.
- harrisbradley, on 12/04/2008, -1/+21nothing is for free. Something is subsidized.
- DiggasWAttitude, on 12/04/2008, -0/+19@Sockpuppets,
⠠⠙⠕⠑⠎ ⠞⠓⠑ ⠊⠠⠏⠓⠕⠝⠑ ⠓⠁⠧⠑ ⠁⠏⠏⠎ ⠞⠓⠁⠞ ⠁⠗⠑ ⠍⠁⠙⠑ ⠋⠕⠗ ⠞⠓⠑ ⠃⠇⠊⠝⠙? - yakk00, on 12/04/2008, -2/+20Oh no's! All of the Apple elitists will have the same phones as Walmart customers.
- kindablue59, on 12/04/2008, -1/+18If wal-mart did sell 99$ iphones we would have a bunch of idiots with phone plans that they couldn't afford. Plus, when is the last time someone saw Apple downgrade their line?
-- fake rumor - SkippyDoorknob, on 12/04/2008, -2/+191st born child
- choopie911, on 12/04/2008, -0/+17No kidding. I just opted for the iPod Touch, since I can get the device, but can't afford the plans. Canada needs some competition.
- CatsAreGods, on 12/04/2008, -0/+16People who have to use the word "hip" clearly aren't.
- kingbinji, on 12/04/2008, -1/+17yet another apple price reduction rumor that rarely ever pans out.
- choopie911, on 12/04/2008, -3/+18If Apple keeps the same standards I wouldn't be surprised to see them pulled from Wal*Mart pretty quickly. Apparently if they catch you not pointing out that it's 3G etc, they'll pull it from your shelves. The last time I bought an mp3 player at wal*mart the guy couldn't open the display case, let alone tell me ANYTHING about the product.
- gymbrall, on 12/04/2008, -1/+15the American mind is conditioned to rationalize monthly payments. It's $300 for a phone that bothers them. Phones are supposed to be "free".
- MOJIRA, on 12/05/2008, -0/+14Three kids at 30.. you poor bastard.
- ejacobwolf, on 12/04/2008, -2/+15wapple*martee & t
- suprxtragrav, on 12/09/2008, -0/+13They're insane in canada. I think the last time i checked it was $60 for the entire plan with 1GB data. (not including text messages).
***** Rogers and Fido. - nicc, on 12/04/2008, -0/+13do you know what a "exclusivity contract" means?
- lancert, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT US????
- jrtcs, on 12/04/2008, -0/+10Better yet, how about an iPhone shuffle? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwnsQpcNvpE
- ejacobwolf, on 12/04/2008, -0/+10nanos?
- yakk00, on 12/04/2008, -2/+12Because NOBODY has blackberries...
- godmode, on 12/04/2008, -0/+10Walmart already sells iPhones in Canada.
- SpectralSounds, on 12/04/2008, -1/+10Are you sure that he wasn't just an incompetent imbecile? A good chunk of Wal-Mart employees fall into that category.
- krum, on 12/04/2008, -3/+11They could pay me $100 for the iPhone and it would still be a bad deal with the service agreement it comes with.
- DevSingh1359, on 12/04/2008, -0/+8Drop some prices on the expensive ass phone plans and I'll consider it.
- yensed, on 12/04/2008, -1/+9Its not even so much the price of the phone anymore. Its the horrible plans.
- 4NDr01D, on 12/04/2008, -2/+10would make sense when they launch a 32gb iPhone
I do think this will happen
Apple wants to Own the mobile phone market
and they will...
they will - ExRe, on 12/04/2008, -0/+84 year contract?
- u8myfoood, on 12/04/2008, -1/+9@JanK1
Personally I can afford the service, but there are many people who are working at minimum wage, which even at NY's $7.15/hr (about $5.50~ish after taxes), at 8 hour per day for 6 days a week, that is only $264 after tax ($1056 per month), accounting in minimum of $450 housing per month, $100 for all utilities (just water, gas, and electricity, no internet, cable, home phone, or anything), $75 for the phone bill itself that is $431 left, that is even before you eat which would cost at least $3 a day assuming you cook for yourself (not likely to cost to little with the amount that food costs currently), and that is another $90, which is $341. Sure that is an okay amount to save up, but accounting in all the other expenses in REAL life, a person on that type of salary is lucky to save $50 a month.
And job stability is NOT guaranteed with the economy in this day and age.
BTW average american savings is $400/year, good luck sticking to the contract at those costs.
Oh yea, my SERO plan from Sprint (no longer available though) is only $30/month for unlimited data, sms, mms, 500 min, free nights/weekends after 7pm, and now better and faster customer service than AT&T. With better 3G coverage (EVDO in CDMA terms) - skintigh, on 12/04/2008, -3/+11That's what I thought the last time the slashed the price with the new 3G iPhone. Then I found out that when they say "$200 cheaper" they mean "not including the $360 price increase through a more expensive, mandatory phone plan." ($15 a month more for the same plan as the original iPhone)
Oh Apple, you sure do think different. - aserer511, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7This would allow true market saturation for apple. if this happens, i guarantee you all other phone makes for ATT will cry foul. how the ***** can you sell a phone for 100 bucks when an iPhone costs as much?
- DiggityCarl, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7I'll save ya a seat......
