- aknowles5139, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39If anyone wants to see a live Web Gallery, Apple has one up.
http://gallery.mac.com/emily_parker - unloud, on 10/10/2007, -6/+34Still not worth 99 dollars a year, but the integration looks slick.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26this is a much better offering that it used to be, i still don't feel like i need it though...
- desirecomplex, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19It's nice and all but 99 smackers? I'll stay with my 24.95/yr flickr account with unlimited storage for my photos.
- GCarden, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Some of us folks (well, ME) who buy .Mac, get it mainly for the syncing. I really don't use anything else, so it's nice when Apple gives us a little more for our $99 a year. I personally don't care about web galleries, but the 10 GBs will be appreciated...
- RedZeppelin, on 10/10/2007, -7/+15Yawn. Wake me when it's free.
/iPhoto + free Flickr plugin FTW - Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Holy crap, that's pretty slick...
I would love to get that code and put it on my website ;-) - leowatson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I completely agree. You can do just as cool stuff with free software & websites out there and you can share way more easily with other people.
- Squidly, on 10/10/2007, -2/+810 gb isn't enough, sadly. Not when I have 10k photos and dozens of videos. See, I don't nerf the quality of my photos. I upload to Flickr now at full res and it can go 3-5mb per shot.
That 10gb will disappear in a hurry. - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The Ads would ruin the aesthetics of the service --- Apple reasoning.
- Boondoggle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6
If the past is any guide, you'll get an upgrade to your storage auto-magically. That is what has happened in the past. - Squidly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6"So what is Apple doing for the people who already bought a few more GB? Im paying for 4GB right now."
Well, now you have 14GB. Gratz. - tuqqer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8As well as a new bicycle. Or at least one small kitchen appliance.
- dzorz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5There is even "live" zoom feature like one in iPhoto!
- ashwinashwin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6cant apple do this for free?? have it supported by google ads or something...? would be a huge plus for potential mac users
- pu-z, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4For one, .Mac mail?
- embraceware, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Wow - I paid for the extra 2gigs earlier this year to make it 3gigs of space. I just logged in to see that my .Mac now has 30GB available! This is awesome. It's worth the extra money to add a little more to the $99 to get up to 30GB :)
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'd much rather pay for a service than have it for "free" and supported by ads. IMO, plastering a site with ads doesn't make it free. I have to pay with my time by viewing the ads.
- tracydanger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Please go somewhere else. People don't ever get the point that this is in the Apple section and they can block it. And I'll never understand why you'd take the time to write a comment in the comments section of an Apple post if you don't like Apple. Go enjoy life elsewhere.
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Wouldn't it be so much cooler if iPhoto '08 uploaded to Flickr? I think it's funny they mentioned you could upload videos to YouTube, but no mention of photos to Flickr...
- TheCash, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4if you consider copying something sites like Flickr have been doing for years 'much better.' Wow.. I can push a button and sync everything for an ungodly yearly fee, or I can push a few buttons on a different site and pay nothing at all. Now *that's* a tough choice.
I love how he touts the 1.4 mil number like that's something to brag about. - Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3OK, Apple officially stated I now have 30GB. If you upgraded to 2GB storage, you now have 20 GB. I'll probably just drop it back down to default again, as I really needed the extra 4 GB only to make things very easy for clients.
- skimpson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3$99 for .Mac may seem totally crazy to the small percentage of computer users that read and comment on digg religiously. but for the new Mac users who just want to check their email, browse the net, and share pictures, its revolutionary. .Mac is all about integration and ease of use, rather than beating Flickr, Gmail, etc...
- drmobutu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The first year should be free, included in the purchase price of your new mac.
- TomFrost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3 News » Technology » Apple
...why the hell are you here, again? - Radan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Doesn't .Mac already support multiple email addresses already? I'm pretty sure you can simply create an "alias" from the web mail preferences, which as far as I know, works practically as a second email. Though, I agree that you should get one year of .Mac when you buy a Mac or purchases the iLife box, or even better, they could make it free of charge as it was in the beginning.
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Smiling...
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dude, they partnered with Yahoo on the iPhone as well as with Google...
- mrhoove, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I've paid for 2GB so I checked my .Mac account on the mac.com site and saw 20 Gigs storage available. So you probably have 40GB.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I agree. Too bad they don't offer certain features a la carte on .Mac. I just can't justify paying $99 for a years worth of services that will mostly go to waste on superior or free alternative sources.
- MrIso, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Here's at least one feature: http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/features/finder.html
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree, too. I think it would be cool if Flickr looked at what apple is doing with their photo gallery, though, and stole a few ideas...
- soundboy64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2anyone found anyway to access the web based idisk from the iphone?
- Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4So what is Apple doing for the people who already bought a few more GB? Im paying for 4GB right now.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, especially since they worked with Yahoo! for the push email. Flickr is such an established brand in the world of photo sharing that it'd be nice to see Apple align with them there as well.
- Avian00, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, it's sort of both. I know I'd like to use iDisk to backup my stuff. But 10GB is just not enough.
- rob357, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2thanks God the iphone left apple website main page.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Check out the Firefox add-on called PicLens. It takes flickr & picasa web galleries and adds a really cool interface for browsing though the pics...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well done for neither checking the previous comments or logging into to your account.
- greebly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've already verified that I have 10G in my account.
- PueSi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4iThink it should be free or at least A LOT cheaper, $99 a year? That's insane.
- tracydanger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2too bad that they'll get enough people buying it at that price point to justify keeping it there. I sure won't.
- BulkHedd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm just curious....Amazon sells .Mac for $79.99. If I bought it from them would I still get the new features and extra storage?
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1At LEAST give us the option to embed them officially.
- MrIso, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know you can put your bookmarks files/folders on your idisk and create a symlink to them from where the application looks for them.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It supports comments to blogs currently, but n oword on what the update might do...
The really nice thing is iWeb supports AdSense. No more token replacement scripts to post-process iWeb output. - pierreb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1According to the web site, all existing subscribers are updated to 10G's.
- MellerTime, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3What the hell does that have to do with .Mac?
- BabyGotMac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3One thing of note about the storage/capacity upgrade versus cost: You can now use a personal domain with it, integrating all of these .Mac tools, for about the same cost as a web host for a year. 100gb of transfer is nothing to sneeze at, and I'm certain that Apple servers are faster and more reliable than your average cheapy, dreamy host.
