- Stewart21, on 10/10/2008, -32/+183Yesterday it was suppose to be under $800, now its $1000... its just going to end up being another overpriced Apple product.
- Timan, on 10/10/2008, -4/+116Under $1,000 means $999.
Please, no more edges that cut into your palms is all I ask. - inactive, on 10/09/2008, -5/+117Credit Crunch Optimised!
- baldgye, on 10/10/2008, -1/+56I wonder how many articles are going to be written about the same 4 pictures?
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -5/+48"its just going to end up being another overpriced Apple product. "
So basically, another Apple product. - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+43Because some of us are sensible with our investments and have secure savings to help should times be lean and can afford nice things because we didn't take a mortgage on a house we never had a hope in hell of being able to pay off.
- Galaxylander, on 10/10/2008, -2/+42They were... the touch went from $299 to $229 and the iPod nano is in 16 gig for the price of the 8 gig last generation...
- Mahoney07, on 10/10/2008, -11/+50Remember when the new iPods were rumored to be a lot cheaper?
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -2/+35I hope Apple's idea of "sub-$1000" isn't $999. With tax/VAT on top of that, it's back to being above $1000 again.
- Chirp08, on 10/10/2008, -0/+33I've never had an issue with my edges but I would prefer the new laptops to run at temperatures less then the surface of the sun so I can use my MBP on my lap while wearing shorts without branding myself.
- emotecontrol, on 10/10/2008, -0/+31Not to defend Apple, but why does everyone complain when a new product comes out that "OMG I just bought one and now there's a better one!" Welcome to "purchasing electronics." Most laptop manufacturers upgrade their laptop models on a much more incremental basis, far more often than Apple does. Apple tends to make big changes all at once, and then make you live with them until they decide to upgrade again. Buy from Dell, and you'll get a computer that's current as of this month, but it'll be replaced by a better model next month. With Apple, the computer is obsolete just as quickly, but you don't notice because they don't make anything else available for so long.
The bottom line: you buy a computer, it's gaining obsolescence by the time you get it home. Apple or not. It's just a reality of buying electronics. - thewump, on 10/10/2008, -1/+29Look at the pictures! It's got no ***** insides - no wonder it's under $1000.
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2008, -5/+32$1000? That's like $3000 September dollars!
- Lionhart, on 10/10/2008, -2/+29New Macbooks, designed to run on America's economy.
- joltjake, on 10/10/2008, -1/+26Yeah, and remember when they were, CRAZY!
- me2000, on 10/10/2008, -3/+24The parts in a Mac are the same crappy parts that are in a Dell.
I work at a service center for Apple, Dell, and Lenovo.. A majority of the computers on campus are Dells yet we get as many Apples that are broken as Dells.
It's the same crap. - edstate, on 10/09/2008, -6/+26Hopefully it will be "sub" in size, too.
- darkism, on 10/10/2008, -21/+41Maybe now all the cheap sons of bitches who complain about Apple pricing will shut the ***** up.

Nope, looks like they won't. - AmyVernon, on 10/09/2008, -11/+28That would be awesome. We need another Mac.
- BxBoy, on 10/10/2008, -1/+18Hopefully not much is sacrificed.
- briLo, on 10/10/2008, -9/+24As an professional geek I do think they're overpriced. You can get the same hardware and run one of 100+ operating systems that will not cost you a dime.
I've got an Asus laptop dual booting xp and kubuntu, it's quality as hell at a fraction of the cost!!
Who cares if a bunch of teenagers and spoiled college kids got Macbooks because they're trendy? Market share is the biggest generalization around; let's talk demographics within that market share. Just because a 16 year old bubblegum chomping valley girl is using a mac doesn't mean much to me. I know there are some serious mac users and I'll take their opinions any day as it's makes for a great discussion, but let's at least be real about it!
Do Jordans help you play basketball? They've got great market share and they're pricey as hell!!! - MacParrot, on 10/10/2008, -3/+17emotecontrol
It costs exactly what the market will bear. It just doesn't cost what you're willing to spend. See how that works? - EmailAddress, on 10/10/2008, -15/+29Quality what?
Intel cpu? the same cpu that is found in Dell laptops? Apple's hardware is made out of gold? No... it's the same ***** that is in other laptops and desktops; Apple simply charges higher.
There may be instances where an Apple computer is more efficient/effective than a IBM-PC, but many people just want to check e-mail and do facebook and simple things. Apple capitalizes on selling expensive ***** that in the end isn't fully used by the user.
Those who buy an Apple and don't fully use its potential, just using it for email/chat/basic stuff, they are victims of hype and marketing; I feel sorry for them... - emotecontrol, on 10/10/2008, -0/+14Dell and HP already offer sub-$1000 notebooks. If Apple really is reducing their profit margin due to the downturn--which I seriously doubt--it's not to serve the user. It's so that people who have thinner wallets won't abandon the brand en masse.
- Cargo8, on 10/10/2008, -1/+15How many times is this gonna be front page-asized?
- raydeen, on 10/10/2008, -2/+15386 SX. You're gonna have to fork over another $200 for the math co-processor.
- chillymanilli, on 10/10/2008, -1/+13or £999 if you live in England!
- zacbro, on 10/10/2008, -1/+13Oh man, they're going to crash a lot....
- Ramble, on 10/10/2008, -4/+15So in the UK it'll be about £800?
- DharmaDog, on 10/10/2008, -2/+13OS X.
That's why. And no, running a pirated copy illegally on a hackintosh doesn't count. - leerayIG88, on 10/10/2008, -2/+13why don't you lick your lap with your tongue so it wouldn't get hot?
- leetninja, on 10/10/2008, -1/+12what the ***** are you talking about dell sells notebooks for under 500 dollars you effing MORON
- ieee, on 10/10/2008, -1/+10I've been a linux user at home for about 8 years. When my current box eventually dies I am going to keep getting a Mac in mind as an option. Pricing a Mac under $1000 is a smart move. It is a psychological thing for me and I suspect others. When I first started buying computers that is what they cost so I am "used to" that price. If I get the same processor / bus speed/ ram for that price I will have no problem going Mac.
- samimnot, on 10/10/2008, -5/+14Obviously ;-) you don't own an Apple product....curious as to why you waste your time and ours repeating the same inane comments, every other PC user makes?
- mingistech, on 10/10/2008, -2/+11My employer requires be to purchase a new Apple notebook.... so this is perfect timing.
- thegoudster, on 10/10/2008, -6/+15Nope, because PC notebooks have been under $1000 for years (under $500 even). Apple's making a big deal about what's sure to be called "the most affordable MacBook ever" when it's only dropping the price by $100. It will still cost more than double your average Windows notebook for the same hardware in a prettier case.
- Icetype, on 10/10/2008, -2/+10You can resize windows from all corners tho.

- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+8Someone doesn't know much about cars.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -0/+7It's more like someone buying a Lexus over a Camry. Either way, you're still getting a Toyota.
- kibbledbits, on 10/10/2008, -0/+7I'm jealous. My employer makes me work on a Dell Fattitude :(
- derekJAB, on 10/10/2008, -1/+8When he's finished cutting your grass send him over to me. My gardener retired yesterday.
- inkswamp, on 10/10/2008, -1/+8Same whiny comments, different day.
I've never understood people who actually go out of their way to complain about stories they don't like. Scroll past it, quit bitching, and carry on with your life. -
