- Tddupre, on 11/12/2009, -4/+25With one ***** phone and like 3 years plus locked to certain carriers. This just shows it's the quality of the phone and not how many ***** ones you can saturate the market with.
- wbrns, on 11/11/2009, -1/+19The buzz and buying frenzy didn't hurt either. People seem to be almost insane over the iPhone.
- CdnPhoto, on 11/12/2009, -0/+12Somewhere in there is the Blackberry. Still used by many, and selling well.
- rolf, on 11/12/2009, -1/+13With competition like android, hopefully it remains a tight race and the consumer can win the most.
- absolutelytrue, on 11/11/2009, -3/+14Well, of course. Iphone is bigger than anything else right now. Verizon needs to offer customers something comparable to make sales.
- Macintoshreader, on 11/12/2009, -0/+9You mean like this one?
http://www.letsgodigital.org/images/artikelen/109/ ... - SPECOPS, on 11/12/2009, -3/+11not sure if you know it or not, but Nokia smart-phones are actually MORE expensive than the iPhone 32GB. Nokia does sell MORE phones though, more throwaway phones you get for free with a lot of carriers for signing up for a 2-3 year contract/tariff.
- Truedirt, on 11/11/2009, -3/+11Big milestone. No wonder why Nokia is trying now to enter the netbook market looking to upset its lost dominance in the handset sector.
- friday04, on 11/12/2009, -1/+8“We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone,” he said. “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.” - Ed Colligan, CEO Palm (circa spring 2007).
- michelleharnett, on 11/12/2009, -2/+8I love my iPhone. It has changed the way I work.

If I had a nickle every time someone said another phone does x better.... - drex8, on 11/12/2009, -2/+8And Apple probably sells way less handsets than Nokia too. So it's a bigger gain and achievement for Apple.
- protodon, on 11/12/2009, -3/+8Kinda sucks for Nokia since the phone biz was kind of a part-time job for Apple, or at least it was...
- rolf, on 11/12/2009, -0/+5I have a feeling the smartphone market will come out segmented like the current PC market all over again - android OS vs iPhone (depending on Apple's moves, they could be on either side of the equation here).
I think 2 systems can thrive, I don't think there is room for a third right now. (Cue the Linux analogy). That means symbian probably won't have a chance, and Microsoft looks to become a niche player as well, despite having Windows Mobile for years. - protodon, on 11/12/2009, -0/+5http://www.sanjiuen.com/stock%20list/stock%20list- ...
remember when everyone had one of these? - backwardscompat, on 11/11/2009, -11/+16Apple wins again!
- rolf, on 11/12/2009, -3/+8I think the smartphone one upped netbooks. Netbooks were more sensible before the next generation smartphones (iPhone, androids, others) came to market, but I'm not so sure afterwards as many people used netbooks as portable browsing/email solutions and that's taken over now in a smaller form factor that isn't as good, but adequate.
I think it will have it's niche - a computer for the kids or school, but Idk if it will achieve the same ubiquity as without really good smartphone. - SPECOPS, on 11/12/2009, -1/+5blah blah blah blah....EXPENSIVE!

- SPECOPS, on 11/12/2009, -0/+4I agree, I've since taking my smartphone with me INSTEAD of my netbook, really it just wasn't necessary with the remote control apps, email clients and IM apps. For 2 weeks or longer though, I'd start to feel "computer claustrophobic"
- ThantiK, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3I second fandyllic...128mb of ram...that's supposed to be your android killer? REALLY?
- ThantiK, on 11/12/2009, -1/+4Basically, yes.
- thesportoflife, on 11/12/2009, -1/+4I think he means like this piece of ***** http://www.pakshark.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03 ...
:p - fandyllic, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3128 MB RAM = FAIL.
- Synchro, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3N900 does not run Symbian. it uses Maemo an open source Linux based OS as I recall. So Nokia is getting away from Symbian to a point. The N900 looks awesome. I have been wanting an iPhone, right up until I saw the N900. Full firefox browser, multitasking, background apps, etc etc. it is awesome!
- sqtab, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3Well said.
Hate it or love it, Apple seems to understand what others often ignore:
Innovation matters, quality matters, make a great interface, or die. - thesportoflife, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3@Hivetyrant
That's for an unlocked iPhone with no contract. Our contract plans in Aus are so much cheaper than America's. I paid 0$ upfront for my iphone on a $40 monthly plan that includes $350 worth of calls, text and data usage. The iPhone in Aus is a lot cheaper than most competition. I think the HTC diamond sells for $1200 unlocked with no contract. - Mockylock, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3How many different phones does apple sell?
1. The iphone.
How many models does Nokia sell and what is the average price?
They're talking about all handhelds in general.. and nokia sells quite a few $20 phones. It costs $600 for an iphone without a contract. When they released it, people were paying that price and still are.
That's my point, now go ***** yourself. - SPECOPS, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3Actually, they are. Don't research much, either that or you're just another blinded fangirl:

tons others too, go to any of the operator sites, and price it out - yeah there are free ones too with contracts/tariffs - but there's also a 99 iphone 3g, and cheap ass G1s too... - mrBitch, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3You think the only people buying iPhones are Apple fan boys?
Are you a moron? - rolf, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2Sorry, I forgot about the Blackberry. Well, the competition will be fun to watch.
- Mockylock, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2Yeah.. I don't care for Apple (even though their products are nice), but I have an iPhone. There's nothing that really compares right now.
- fandyllic, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2Nokia needs to start moving away from the mobile as commodity model. It will kill their profits.
- djm19, on 11/12/2009, -3/+5Android will probably lead the market in the future, as companies continue to adopt its operating system.
- ohreilly, on 11/12/2009, -3/+5" lost dominance in the handset sector."
Nokia has 50% smartphone marketshare.
Apple has what, 10% now? Lost dominance indeed.
All this report shows is that Apple remain overpriced. - philcloh2o, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3Blackberries seem to be outselling iPhones in Canada, atleast at my university.
Yes I am aware that only Rogers could sell the iPhone before and now the big 3 in Canada can, but even before that most people just seemed to want a Blackberry. - jasonh1234, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1"Hahahaha!!" - Steve Balmer on the iPhone's potential market-share.
- mrBitch, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1@ SPECOPS, RE: " .. not sure if you know it or not, but Nokia smart-phones are actually MORE expensive than the iPhone 32GB. Nokia does sell MORE phones though, more throwaway phones you get for free with a lot of carriers for signing up .. "
Good point. - rolf, on 11/12/2009, -2/+3That was after the announcement and showcasing of the iPhone in January 2007. It's weird, both Apple and Palm design their own hardware and software, so they both were in a position to innovate like this for years.... but because of the sagging PDA market at the time, Palm is where Apple was in the early to mid-90s.
And the PDA, without internet connectivity, really isn' that interesting. Just like a desktop. History repeating itself ala, the PC, all over again. - mirunit, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1Did you even look at the specs on the N900? No, you did not. 256MB Ram, 1GB SWAP, 32GB Onboard, Cortex A8. What does the droid have? 256MB Ram + 250MB application storage - which is a joke. The N810 is over a year old. I really like it how you treat Android like a force, when it is going to run on a plethora of hardware (thus complicating development) and it has a market share of just about nothing. Do you even have a Android phone?
- sapd, on 11/12/2009, -2/+3I think Nokia and Palm should become one big family.
- mrBitch, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1@ ohreilly, RE: " .. " lost dominance in the handset sector."

Looks like Nokia has way less than 50% :
http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/07/31/idc. ...
" .. even Nokia's phone shipments have dropped sharply and have fallen 15.4 percent from year to year and give it a smaller but still significant lead with 38.3 percent of the whole market. " - DaffyDuck, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2He probably thinks that about iPods too.
- DaffyDuck, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2This isn't a high school essay. You don't have to double-space here.
- ohreilly, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1Try something newer.
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/10728_Gar ...
(yes it's a symbian site but it doesn't try to spin the figures like AppleInsider, and it was the first Google result).
Seems their marketshare has increased again, and they are still selling more than Apple. Lost dominance indeed. RIM is doing better. - mrBitch, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1Too late :
http://www.physorg.com/news174814805.html
" .. Nokia posts loss of $832 million in third quarter.

" .. Nokia Profit Plunges by 90 Percent " - fandyllic, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1You mean PDAs without a full-time internet connection. Palm PDAs have had wi-fi support for awhile. They were just underpowered.
- mrBitch, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2@ TrancePhreak, RE: " .. So what you're saying is... Apple overcharges more than Nokia?"
Apple is "overcharging", huh ?
http://www.roughlydrafted.com/2007/09/09/microsoft ...
" Apple earned $3.13 billion on revenues of $22.61 billion, an overall profit margin of less than 14%.
.. Microsoft actually makes–after expenses–a 66% profit margin on sales of Office and a jaw-dropping 81% profit margin on Windows. " -
