- atrain15, on 11/06/2007, -0/+87Awesome. I'd imagine that since you can now jailbreak an iPhone without a computer simply by pointing the browser to jailbreakme.com that this sort of thing is going to happen more often.
- wisedude, on 11/06/2007, -1/+37this is really easy to do now... Most apple stores probably have jailbroken iphones because all you do is go to a site
- alz0rz, on 11/06/2007, -0/+28For the amount of effort it takes to pick up a random iPhone, go to http://jailbreakme.com and click once.. I don't see why they would?
- tfstone, on 11/06/2007, -3/+30love it. gotta try that at an apple store tomorrow :))
- fr0ng, on 11/06/2007, -23/+46Wow, im sure there was NO way someone could have put their own jailbroken iPhone on a dock in an Apple store, taken a pic, and pretended it was real...no way..
- h3smith, on 11/01/2007, -3/+21Big ***** deal, someone went to the jailbreak website and ran the exploit.
- alz0rz, on 11/06/2007, -0/+17I just noticed that you can see the reflection of the security cord thingy attached to the back of the iPhone.. so unless they went through ALL that effort.. this is legit.
- drewfer, on 11/06/2007, -0/+17Its been said before, go into the apple store and install ants on all the iPhones and sit back and watch.
- rickbauls, on 11/01/2007, -0/+16It still makes me laugh to know a guy traded a 350z for one.
- Zanneth, on 11/01/2007, -0/+14For those of you who aren't familiar with the iPhone's hacking scene, Jailbreaking is what you need to do in order to put third-party apps on the iPhone. This picture is funny because the application "Installer" is on the main screen, which allows you to install these apps. Installer is not an Apple program in other words.
- jeffchuck, on 11/06/2007, -0/+14Of course that's possible, but it would be a lot easier to just jailbreak a display iPhone.
- moofer, on 11/01/2007, -0/+10eh... $100
- brianbennett, on 11/02/2007, -4/+13Proper use of the Photoshop trademark - http://www.adobe.com/misc/trade.html#photoshop :
CORRECT: The image was enhanced using Adobe® Photoshop® software.
INCORRECT: The image was photoshopped. - Viscaria, on 11/01/2007, -0/+7It has Installer.app installed. Look in the bottom row next to iTMS.
- UMDWei, on 11/06/2007, -0/+6You could still get to the site through the edge network, no?
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -0/+6Assuredly not fake - I pulled the same stunt at Chicago's Michigan Ave. Apple store. As soon as jailbreakme.com went live it was a piece of cake. Installer loaded fine, and I had the NES emulator and another calculator program loaded into the home screen in no time. They already block myspace, so I'm sure the free Apple store wi-fi will block that site in no time!
- ChaosProfessor, on 11/12/2007, -3/+8i should jail break the one at bestbuy
- xkorbin, on 11/01/2007, -0/+5my phone was completely unlocked and jailbroken and I collected my 100USD voucher...? it's just a text message...
- patw85, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Bestbuy doesn't carry the iPhone
- likwidfuzion, on 11/01/2007, -0/+5The Installer icon.
- perfectbynature, on 11/01/2007, -2/+6Why am I being dugg down? It's the truth. So touchy..
- shadowblade989, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4Do people just not read the comments before posting?
Even if you choose not to read, look at the number of comments. Believe it or not, you're probably not the only one who had such original thoughts. - barandon0D9, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4and he also attached a security tag to the back of it so no one else would steal it from the store! what a prankster!
- j4nj1m3n3z, on 11/01/2007, -2/+6haha touchy... nice pun
sorry im just bored.
digg me down. - unixgold, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3Ants is a bit of software that displays crawling ants in the display. It's quite hilarious to catch people's reactions when they see it.
- moofer, on 11/01/2007, -1/+4Like the people that comment on stupid stories?
- aznedy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3Sorry, no such place as Biltmore, AZ. The Biltmore is a shoping center in Phoenix, AZ.
- salinemist, on 11/01/2007, -1/+4Yes, because you're an ass. Is anything there your property?
- likwidfuzion, on 11/01/2007, -1/+4He probably doesn't have the 1.1.1 firmware installed.
- DrPhibes, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3All this is going to accomplish is Apple fixing this exploit in a hurry. Once this starts popping up at a bunch of their stores, I'm sure they will act fast to squish the bug.
- jlyoung, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3He was most likely testing jailbreakme.com to see if it works then do it on his own. That's what i'll do. Test a store phone first because you won't have to worry about brinking it. All gain no worries.
- joeycerone, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3for people who don't understand or think that its fake:
www.jailbreakme.com - shawnz, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2except he asked what he's supposed to be looking for, not a description of what they did
- frankietears, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2OTA app downloads.
- shawnz, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2but its also an internet communications device!!
- PixelD, on 11/01/2007, -1/+3and I think you need to see a few more...
- tomis, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Or they'll just block the website like they did with MySpace.
- colto, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2Not true. Whenever I went to the Apple Store a few weeks after the iPhone launch I started using the various iPhones on display to text message my other friends in the store. It worked fine and didn't say locked SIM on any of the phones.
- chicoer2001, on 11/01/2007, -5/+7What are you supposed to be looking at?
- cleverboy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2"Hm, well now that you've "debunked" the blocked website part,
explain why it says AT&T instead of Locked Sim?"

@pyn: Might just be your Apple Store? - harvested, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2By the time they read they might not be first anymore
- cleverboy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1Hold on... I just looked. You think all jailbroken phones say "Locked Sim". I get it now. It didn't make sense, so I started thinking you meant something else. No... they don't. Here I'm referring to JailbreakMe.com (which let's you install 3rd party apps by installing AppTapp over mobile Safari), and I've actually used it... my phone has Installer.app, and doesn't say "Locked Sim". Oy.
This is one of those things where you think "jailbreak" means "unlock"... and its not true.
Here, "iPhone 101: Hacks Vocabulary Primer":
http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/11/iphone-101-hacks-vo ... - aduzik, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Fail. jailbreakme.com will jailbreak any phone without connecting to a computer. I did it myself a couple of days ago. It uses a hacked-together image to exploit the TIFF library vulnerability.
- CraigJ, on 11/11/2007, -1/+2Wrong on 2 counts...
- Chazx, on 11/01/2007, -1/+2dont worry about cleverboy, he's 12.
- kgraphik, on 11/02/2007, -1/+2Nice to see pictures of an iPhone running my Summerboard theme (Icarus). Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1True - I did hear that jailbreakme.com doesn't work as reliably off edge, but I if you were patient enough...
- Me1000, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1Sorry I have been to several apple stores where the iPhones say AT&T...
and there were several phones there that said no sim as well! - inactive, on 11/02/2007, -4/+5You gotta stop talking about the iPhone! It's just a cell. Is everyone here sleeping with an iPhone?!?! i can't be the only one who doesnt!!
- aduzik, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1I can attest to that; I tried it on EDGE and it took for-freakin'-ever. It takes about three minutes on WiFi.
