From Wikipedia - zip22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006/aug/03ipod.html
"With over 58 million iPods sold, the iPod is the world’s most popular digital music player and the iTunes® Music Store is the number one online music store with over a billion songs purchased and downloaded worldwide."
really not sure what the OP had in mind, but this is also from last month. - dserfaty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15The link does not say anything about any numbers of ipod sold.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20What does the link show us in regards to the 58mn number?
- NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Why are they being dugg down, seriously, the guy makes a digg post about 58million ipods being sold, then links to a barely relevent page (only because the page is the ipod page). it does have any sales charts or anything.
why is this being dugg???? O_o
marked as inaccurate - mynuts, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1958,912,000 ipods have been sold. It says so on Wikipedia so it's probably true.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod - goat77, on 10/12/2007, -16/+25No, marked as spam because it links to the "buy an ipod" site.
- mwsherman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I think the real question is, "How many dead batteries is that?"
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I think an analyst made the calculation , although yes it's not on the link.
- jonashwing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12same here
i love apple and iPods but that link doesn't have any sort of mention to the number in the description. - danarel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9i dont doubt the numbers, but i would like to see proof.
- kimrules, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13It would be alot, if "alot" were actually a word. ;-)
- goat77, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16Nothing at all.
- revmitcz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16oops. tried to reply to a comment, but it showed up as a new reply. grrr.
digg this down, if you please. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8a link to apple's iPod website? you can do better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+21it's marked as spam because you dont own one?
- neophenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So no one else finds it funny that this was submitted by "machater"?
- revmitcz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Not that I'm doubting the proof.. sounds somewhat reasonable to me, but I see no proof there either.
According to this article : http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6416165.html
Apple had sold in excess of 42 Million as of Jan 2006. With 32 Million sold just in 2005 alone, it seems reasonable to assume they've sold off roughly 26 Million so far this year. Though, the XMas season will probably double that, esp. if Apple drops a new iPod version soon. - Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9125 diggs so far. Guys, you really need to learn wtf CONTENT means. It isn't even worthless information on offer, it's NO information at all. ***** hell.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Read it and weap iPod haters:
14 million iPods were sold in the last quarter of 2005 (cnet)
http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6416165.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Sure it is! Look at the title! Thats information...
But yes, he could have done better. - Dinosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6My 2nd gen 10 gigger lasted four years and really it's not dead, the hard drive just died so I'm waiting to get a replacement at a reasonable price which hasn't happened yet. Battery still works great too, about five hours.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Marked as lame. Since when can we quote some random statistic in the synopsis, and then link directly to a product's main website?
- hope, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13Didn't your 6th grade English teacher tell you that alot is not a word? Mine did...
- master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3just remember "a lot is two words"
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7It tells me you don't take care of them. I've had my 3rd gen for 2.5 years now, still works fine. Troll.
- everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Thats like 15 Billion Dollars of generated revenue from the iPod, plus add-ons and itunes downloads.....LOL that's just madness!!!
- samuel514, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3T r o l l
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3so apple has made rougly 15 billion on the ipods...
- wphj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Would you, and answer honestly, mark it as Spam if it linked to the Creative "Buy a Whatsitcalled" page?
- dmoney22, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8and I've gone thru about 5, now what does that tell you.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Way to digg this guy down because he owns a Creative mp3 player, guys. I mean come on.
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont get my songs off itunes for my ipod.
- jdgiotta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I see:
A) a lot of suckers
Or
B) a new era of DRM supremacy - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"ok, so call me when we reach 60,000,000?"
Post your telephone number and we will. - BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Knock 2 more onto that number next week when I buy a new nano and regular iPod when Apple updates them.
- sup34dog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1...and only 2,000,000 of them still work...
- smittyfree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Spam. No link to any sort of 58 million sold figure.
- nogoodreason, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I'd be interested to know how many of those 58 million were returned.
When the guy came to pick up mine for a replacement request (scratched to hell and crap battery), he remarked something along the lines of "You're the 50th this week. Why do so many people buy these things?" - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"As a past owner of thee non Ipod MP3 Players before I bought my 10GB player I seriously challenge you to find a more functional, more compatible, and more user friendly player than an iPOD"
iRiver makes some really nice players, for very low prices.
Got a refurb H20 (20 gig, does pictures, but no video AFAIK) for $150.
$150 won't get you anything in the iPod world, and certainly nothing in the 20 gig range.
I've owned my share of MP3 players (starting with a Rio PMP300 back in '98), and this is the best I've ever owned. There's nothing an iPod could possibly do to justify the much higher price, IMO. - madtownmoxie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7As a past owner of thee non Ipod MP3 Players before I bought my 10GB player I seriously challenge you to find a more functional, more compatible, and more user friendly player than an iPOD. If I am a sheep I am a sheep but as I said I have yet to find a better player. I now own a 60GB 5G iPod w/ Video and couldn't be more satisifed.
Granted I am not a fan of their iTunes DRM but there are ways around that, I just do not buy songes from them. I would rather buy the CD and rip it to my HDD then move it over. - superalamar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Don't fill your ipod with apple store music. How hard is that?
- elfolk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good for Apple, but machater's post should not have gotten this many diggs, since the link has nothing to do with the post or the claim. Stop digging this!!
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe he meant allot? As in, an allotment of 58,000,000 iPods.
Okay, no nevermind I'm sure he didn't. - Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good idea...just make statements and offer no evidence to back them up...i assume you're a republican? You'd have to be to find that an acceptable route.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How does Apple make more than the selling price of most of hte iPods per iPod?
- bromine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4SPAM
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4ok, so call me when we reach 60,000,000?
