- dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Apple tends to take an idea that has the path paved by the geeks, and brings it out to the more common people. Xerox already had a gui, Creative had an mp3 player, Linux was already making headway as a more personal UNIX, and music was already attempted to be sold as online downloads before Apple made things theirs.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19sling box transmits your TV signal to you computer. This transmits your videos sitting on your computer to your TV. two completely different things
- actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Look I realize it's not a revolutionary idea -- but it's a pretty good one. Digg.
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14dude fyre ive seen you on like 10 other apple stories, ***** cut apple from your catagories already and move on jesus christ, seeing your comments are just as annoying as seeing all of these apple stories
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The the Xbox360 does. As do any other Media Center Extenders (the 360 is the only HD one available however).
This looks remarkably like the old MCE2005 interface. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Linksys does have products which stream video via wireless, for example, their 'Media Centre Extender' (I'd post the link but it's incredibly long, just go to linksys.com and search for Extender).
So no, it's definitely NOT the first of it's kind.. but hey, you guys give Apple credit for EVERYTHING they do even though they're not the first or are years late in many/most cases.
Also, use the reply button, mate. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There is from Linksys (Which you deny), MS, Netgear and others.
We tried to tell you but you swore at us and said we were spreading false info.. so, we've tried to help you enough and have given examples. - salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Definately not, I'm streaming HD video and TV off my PC using a 360 right now - I use a hardwire connection, but only because it's convinient. And lets face it, the price point isn't much more, and I get to play games and DVDs as well.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, I bet you have a big fat power hungry 'media center' box sitting next to your tv blowing hot air around the room. Though not entirely original, this thing is a much smarter spin on the idea of media centre style units.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8The Linksys Media Extender DOES do wireless video streaming.
Yeah, great idea, it's NEVER been done before, right ? Just like there weren't desktop gadgets till Dashboard and stationery in email till the latest Mail ?
You morons need to stop giving Apple credit for everything, especially when they aren't the first to do so and don't do anything different.
The interface looks like an early version of MCE2005, it's in no way revolutionary or even significantly better than other options.. hell, it's not even original (Get old an old build of MCE2005 and make the background black instead of blue, yippee).
Oh, and for some irony/fun, here are 2 quotes:
"You *****."
"Man, you apple fan boys bitch and complain alot and say alot of false info."
I wittingly replaced Diggers with Apple fan boys, neat, eh ? Insulting people is sooo fun. /sarcasm - ImmortalLobster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Regarding the mouse...it was already done, and dubbed, teh "Mighty Mouse"
[sarcasm]whats next....5 button mice? omg, what a revolution![/sarcasm] - MoofTheStoof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Substitute "work better," for "look prettier," and you've hit the nail on the head.
- dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Unless I missed something, while iTV is theoretically HD-capable, nothing in the iTunes music store is HD. While pictures will be sharper, movies and TV will just be fuzzy.
- dharm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5slingbox
sony location free
linksys media adapter...
if it works better than any of the above, and is cheaper i would buy one...
or just use my htpc - Jaxim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's the same thing as Microsoft's Media Center "Extenders". Is Apple taking out the "photocopiers" for Redmond now?
Personally, I don't care if companies copy each other. More competition in a specific area will make better and cheaper products. - rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They're pretty much the exact opposite.
- utnow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3slingbox is a totally different product.
Slingbox allows you to view tv signals on your PC. iTV is a set-top PC (basically) that lets your play movies from your PC on your TV.
Reverse polarity. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's a major difference. Net Gear/Linksys has never shown they can popularize a multimedia entertainment device to reach the masses. Apple has. The implications of the iTV are very far reaching. That's why people are interested. It could totally change the TV/movie business forever.
- blackgt93, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iTV is its codename, Jobs said during the event they need to come up with something better.
- stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The black/blue menu theme is far from the "prettiest I've ever seen". Looks like something Sony would come up with!
Apple: what happened to you?!? - funkychikensays, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2whats your point?
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's the first thing I though when I saw the headline. I was wondering why apple chose such a crappy channel to sell on iTunes!

Interactive Flash demo, showing iTunes:

- wolfiezero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can see the name changing soon as there is already an ITV in the UK here.
- funkychikensays, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sweet first front page!
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even though the smartass comment from Immortal was unnecessary....he/she is right. Just buy a TiVo now (or go with something from your cable company if you want to record HD without paying $800 for TiVo's HD unit). I would recommend those if you're looking for something easy to use and setup.
- ImmortalLobster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ok, Seriosuly...this is what, the 3rd ...4th arrticle posted on iTV on the digg frontpage...enough is enough!
- martin993, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Like we'll even get the device.
- beastlrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1want a cookie?
- julzmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you're crazy. iTunes new UI is excellent.
- SportBilly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*cough* XBMC. I love the HD functionality though.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There are a ton of small Media Centre PCs you can buy, some of which are smaller than the iTV (Remember that one that was on the frontpage a few days ago or so and was the size of a book ?).
So, no, this is not a much smarter spin. - diatrevolo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If people want Apple stories, they will come up on the front page, regardless of who doesn't want them. That's how digg works. If you want news without apple, sign up to a microsoft newsletter or something. No one is forcing you to read them.
- boohoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol. iTV bested by a $15 cable...
http://digg.com/apple/mac_s_300_iTV_versus_a_15_generic_cable_generic_cable_WINS - Odiwan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh? The Slingbox is the complete opposite, in a way, to the iTV.
Definition: TV setup, here, means your TV and various devices connected to it such as your PVR, DVD player, other set-top box.
Slingbox = From your TV setup to computer(s)
iTV = From computer(s) to your TV setup
Edit: Just noticed utnow's post a little lower than this one that says the same thing. - atezun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, Apple will NEVER put a PVR into any of their products because they want to p[aid for the content, you are buying the content from them through the iTunes store, it makes no finacial sense for them to allow you get the content from someone else, that doesn't make them one single cent.
- music13, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7It's different because it's Apple, but it is definitely not a new idea. But, like actionscripted said "it's a pretty good one"
- KCorax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1>so how is this different from a slingbox?
it's quite different really.
On the other hand having a core xbox + remote isn't. At all I might add... - firemillen2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5BFD. Jesus Christ. Linksys and netgear have had wireless transmiters from computers to TVs for over a year.
What's next? Apple releases a two button mouse?
"Amazing" says all the fanboys. - aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So linksys has a device. Who cares if they don't advertise it correctly? Who here besides me did not even know they had one?
The point is that it does not matter if they had a device if nobody knows they exists and if they are not as easy to use and they do not integrate seamlessly into an existing setup. - Deetz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Xbox + Splinter Cell + Memory Card and you can have XBMC which looks far better. Throw in a wireless bridge if you want... imho in many homes the wireless might be spotty even with this Apple product.
- lpse2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What do yall think? Wait til they have an iTV that can record TV shows like a VCR (or Tivo or whatever those new things are) or get this when it's out cause if I wait for something like that I'll just be dissapointed?
- WaveRunningNakd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone else notice the similarities between Apple's iTv and Miglia's TvMax?
http://www.miglia.com/products/video/tvmax/index.html - ImmortalLobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Or you could just buy a DVR/TiVo now
Heck, even a MCE PC will do that, But I guess since apple hasnt don it yet, that these concepts must simply not exist yet  - thermus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the idea is to get people talking about it now so they can sign on other studios to ride this wave of new technology before it becomes passee.
The missing component here is Tivo-like features. If they worked in HD/SD recording, this would be the ultimate convergence box. Otherwise, to me, it's a glorified cable box with expensive media content. I'm not compelled to get rid of my MythTV box quite yet. - ross., on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Nothing's HD YET...but that doesn't mean it won't happen.
PS You can download HD 1080p trailers for nix. - MBX1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0these navigation graphics are so ugly. YUCK
come on, what happened to apple?
the current front row graphics & navigation is prettier...
blue shadow outline? YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! APPLE, get some better ui designers (for itunes7 too), you really need it! - ehensley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Tell you what Apple fan boys and spam pumpers.
Lets see, I say lets go try and use this product to record a premium channel tonight....whats that its not out yet, you cant by it?
Gee in the 90's this was called vaporware
Slingbox, Snap Stream, Mythtv, XBMC, shall I go on - renslin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Ive been streamin video from W2K and WinXP for years. Oooooohhhhh, Apple finally jumped on the bandwagon. I use OS X every day. My laptop is a G4. But Apple's announcement is no big deal. And who the hell would pay for ***** downloaded video anyway? Get a MCE and you have all you need. Just know your technology and use your brain!
