Apple Sends Cease and Desist to hymn-project
hymn-project.org — Despite the site never promoting piracy with their software, Apple sent a cease and desist and demanded the removal of downloads. This isn't fair. If you are against DRM then you should be fighting back.

- logolicol, on 02/20/2008, -0/+0It's too bad. The hymn project was always about fair use, not piracy, and they made that very plain on the site and in their forums. They've been playing this little game of leapfrog with Apple for a number of years - whenever a new iTunes release broke the current hymn solution, it was only a matter of time before a fix or a new solution cropped up.
Maybe Apple tired of the game, but more likely they're only doing the record companies' bidding here. Perhaps some of the recent advances touched a little too close to the family jewels.
Fight back? Don't buy DRM'd music from Apple.- thenativeraver, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1Screw itunes and screw paying for handicapped files.
- jackcrack7, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1By fighting back I guess I meant boycott. I haven't purchased music from iTunes in ages. I much prefer to go to the store and have an actual physical CD. That way I can rip it and I always have a high quality, physical backup.
- thebellmaster1x, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1This really pisses me off. I needed to get a new version of QTFairUse just YESTERDAY, and now I'm stuck with m4p files.
***** you, Apple. If I buy your *****, I should be able to listen to it as an m4p, an m4a, an mp3, an OGG, or, hell, even a wave file. I paid for it, and NOBODY gets money when I convert between file formats. Apple's really turning into a whore for the RIAA. - thebellmaster1x, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1In related news, I just discovered this today:

So far it's worked great; it converts any protected files in your iTunes library to MP3 (if you wish).
Personally, I can't tell the difference between an AAC and an MP3. If that's how you are, I suggest this program. If you can hear a difference, eh. You have better hearing than I.
