Sent to and used in USA.
Sold back to China. - flangepiece, on 01/20/2009, -3/+22Anyone want to buy refurbished teabags? I'm selling them at only 78% of the original cost.
- Nero9171, on 01/20/2009, -0/+18Sounds exactly like refurbished products, which Apple currently offers in North America. Most refurbished Apple products are just returns that go through inspection.
- anexanhume, on 01/20/2009, -3/+17Why would this be surprising, or even news?!
- JROXZ, on 01/20/2009, -0/+12Sold through Amazon or ebay customer to USA
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -1/+10then repackaged and sold as new at best buy
- CrushThemTorg, on 01/20/2009, -0/+8A company is targeting an increasingly affluent market with aggressive pricing of what might otherwise be considered a luxury product? STOP THE INTERNETS!
- ileftfark, on 01/20/2009, -0/+6Does your Mac come with a spelling and grammar checker?
- boardthis, on 01/20/2009, -0/+6still more expensive than the chinese knock-off abble ipud.
- JROXZ, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5Great... Now we can purchase them a NEW through ebay...
- ditziwill, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5NO
- SouthsideIrish, on 01/20/2009, -1/+5All of my laptops are refurbished and I would have it any other way. Dell and Apple both have good deals.
- Tyrghast, on 01/20/2009, -1/+5I guess 22% is a lot of money off when your products cost as much as a used car.
- timusca, on 01/20/2009, -0/+4That would mean the MacBook costs about $450 new. What planet are you from?
- MacParrot, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4He's from the planet "Stupid"
- Marshalrusty, on 01/20/2009, -2/+5The people of China are not likely to pay the high prices of the products, so they sell used ones cheaper. It works for Apple and makes it more difficult for consumers in the west to claim that Apple is overpricing here.
It generally makes sense. - dolbinau, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3And Australia. And I'm sure there are many other international stores too. The products are practically new - in fact in my experience when making a warranty claim you will probably get a refurb as a replacement. In any case this is not front page news and we covered refurbs pretty thoroughly here:
http://digg.com/apple/Refurbished_Macs_Bargain_or_ ... - MacParrot, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3My iPod Mini, 1st gen iPod Nano (now used by my son), 2nd gen iPod nano (now used by my wife), all still working great kinda says you're full of crap. Treat it well and they last just as long as any other other player.
- S3Captain, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3Come in eBay, Come in...be aware that used crap sells for less than new crap...all over the world! That is all. Over.
- scurf, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3Just checked out Apple China online store, it is designed exactly the same way as the online store for U.S., with brand new products highlighted and links for refurbished items at the bottom left of the page. WTF is this even news?
"Apple has introduced similar deals in other countries, including the Unites States, the United Kingdom and Japan, for years, but second-hand purchase only makes up a small portion of its total sales." - make7upyours06, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3I'm glad to hear Apple is finally expanding their business... They really should look at some Latin American countries though, for example here in Mexico we only have distributors and no Apple Store to call our own, so whenever my Powerbook needs service I have to go San Diego :( I bet this sort of 'promotion' would work not just in China but in other developing countries..
- aamir2, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2It seems you are talking about an Apple Retail Store, which would be nice. But in case you did not already know, there is an Apple Online Store for Mexico.
http://store.apple.com/mx - frieddonuts, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2This was a confusingly sexual comment. I don't understand exactly what the angle of your innuendo is, but it's there.
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2Wouldn't this be called an employee discount?
- andarnold, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2Well, considering they are made there. I think they deserve a break on the pricing, that and they are evil communists, and we wouldn't want apple to start another cold war.
- pogoyoyo, on 01/20/2009, -6/+822% less of the normal price is still a sh*t load...
- Zorkon, on 01/20/2009, -2/+4Steve didn't cost you 20% in 2 weeks. The media did.
- anshuman, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Come on, open one in India too man . you smoked weed and got inspiration here before apple . come on , why no love to india :( .
- roycifer, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1yeah... used stuff SHOULD be sold for less
- rushiku, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1What? You mean Apple Corp has heard of the basic economic principle "charge what the market will bear"?
My, what exciting times we live in. - walgman, on 01/20/2009, -1/+2Go to China. Believe me it is surprising. Things like phones are twice the price of here in the UK. Why I don't know.
- SnapETom, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1So they opened up a refurbed section on their Chinese website like they have one for their English website. That's news?
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Here are the same exact deals, from Apple, for America:
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals - pintomp3, on 01/20/2009, -1/+2You make it, you buy it.
- nmanguy, on 01/20/2009, -4/+522 off%? So it's STILL more expensive than a PC.
- Ajaynow, on 01/20/2009, -3/+4Now if they could just sell Steve Jobs secondhand... Bastard has cost me 20% in 2 weeks.
- rakeshishere, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1Still costly for me... I would rather buy a new one
- okgaz, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1No, I think if you teabag somebody, clean up, then teabag somebody else the 2nd person got a refurbished teabag.
- ileftfark, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Dugg for great honesty.
- jsp123, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Glad to see the "Related by Keyword" section moved to the bottom!
- MtheoryX, on 01/20/2009, -1/+2Your ***** investing cost you; don't blame anyone but yourself.
- Technopundit, on 01/20/2009, -1/+2Ebay + China = Ripoff
- chillymanilli, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Mine too, I bought a factory refurb sony vaio SZ for £1100 which would have cost £1900 new direct from sony. Great thing is that 6 months after i got it the cat knocked a vase of water over it and had to claim on home insurance. They settled as if it was brand new and sent me a cheque for £1800 so bought another one and made £700.
I like my cat, i didn't much like him when he did it though!!! - MtheoryX, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Did Borat just write that comment?
Very NICE! - flangepiece, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1Since when was teabagging a verb?
*googles*
Oh. Oh dear me. Well, I most sincerely was talking about the porous paper sachet of dried tea leaves for the brewing thereof. Oh my goodness. - Technopundit, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1And if you're lucky, those lying thieves in Hong Kong might even ship it to you.
- Technopundit, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1They're floating prices artificially high in the US, is what they're doing.
- theducks, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1I checked the online store.. the prices of Apple hardware in China is disgustingly high, especially when you consider all of their current product lineup are made there
