- stevedynamo, on 10/12/2007, -26/+354Yeah... it "came" with porn on it. Just like my TV at home magically tunes to the Playboy channel after my wife goes to bed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+181So this guy says he bought a $1500 computer for an 11 year old girl, got it home and it was loaded with porn. So instead of calling Apple or taking it back to the store and complaining he formatted the drive, reinstalled OS X and started filing complaints with government agencies. Now he has no proof that the material that he is complaining about was ever on the machine because the article indicates that he didn't even take screen shots. I'm thinking that this is a great big, steaming, worm infested pile of *****. And I'd say the same thing no matter who built the machine or what OS it runs. This stinks like the woman that "found" the human finger in her chili at Wendy's.
- prot0col, on 10/12/2007, -6/+156And they didn't have to pay extra? NICE!!!!
- ryland2, on 10/12/2007, -24/+168@stevedynamo
You NEED a new wife. - Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -7/+130I've never known eleven-year-old girls to stockpile porn...are you blaming the father?
Might not be too far off, since the story says the father wiped the drive and installed OSX, killing any and all possible evidence. Although the story would no longer make sense. - ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -8/+107Something smells fishy in this story...
- thoughtfulclown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+87i sense a new apple ad coming...
Mac: What do you do for entertainment PC?
PC: Well, I, uh, well, you know...
Mac: Oh I bet you have to go download that yourself now don't you?
PC: Yes...
Mac: I come pre-loaded
/self-proclaimed lameness ends now.../ - itsmrdumass, on 10/12/2007, -19/+97Wasn't this just on the front page?
"Apple lost my computer"
http://digg.com/apple/Apple_lost_my_computer - WITFITS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+73Well, where else is she gonna keep her porn?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Nope. Welcome to Web 2.0.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58"Something smells fishy in this story..."
chances are good it's the laptop. - xike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52What's an 11 year old girl need with a MacBook anyway?
- cjmartin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+55Seems a little shady that the guy wouldn't at least take a screenshot of the "porn" on the laptop before reformatting and reinstalling, and wouldn't contact apple about the situation before talking to his member of parliament.
Doesn't it seem that if you got a laptop full of porn you would not just reformat and keep it, I would be taking that thing directly back to the store.
I'm not sure about this one... - retral, on 10/12/2007, -5/+55Since when do 11 year olds need laptops?
- dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -5/+54If it was an 11 year old boy or any man for that matter, this wouldn't be a problem.. would it? lol.
- OverloadUT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48I agree with cjmartin. There is absolutely no proof of any wrongdoing. We're going on some random AIM conversation here.
And does anyone agree with me that posting an AIM conversation is just about the most unprofessional way to report news? - mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46He reformatted before complaining....thats not a good idea... Wheres the proof now?
- alexonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44"I would be taking that thing directly back to the store."
I would be taking that thing directly to an empty room. - tagliare, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44I love how he conveniently reformatted the hard drive, erasing all the proof he had.
- AbortedFetus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Screenshot or it didn't happen.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42Is there a source other than some guy whoring out his blog?
- gikeymarcia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40I'm switching to mac
- anasazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27so THATS where my old macbook went when they replaced it
- Jakyll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24@gikeymarcia,
I just checked, there's no "fill it with porn, please" on the Apple site, so we may have to go to the stores. - bias, on 10/12/2007, -13/+32hmmm poster, it's not a bad thing if it happens on Apple, try use Microsoft next time so our digg fanboys have some thing to spin.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21You are on Digg! IS there EVER any proof or source but a whining little blog?
The next time someone claims that Microsofot or Dell did them wrong on their blog, I expect you to stick up for them. Otherwise you are a ***** hypocrite. - Dweller99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"Oftentimes lazy technicians miss a step in the reformatting process"
Like.. the entire process of reformatting?
thats quite a "step" to miss. - spectrox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18High Five! Very Nice!
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16*quoting from memory from that guy's Dell Laptop Safety Video*
...Hot anal milfs from Germany and Scandinavia, in positions that would be banned under the Geneva Convention... - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Just read the article, why did he complain to Ofcom? What power would a broastcasting/communications regulator have over Apple selling porno?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23Why has Digg gome from potentially making Kevin Rose millions, to not being pretty much worthless? THIS article./ More accurately, the COMMENTS.
Any comment claiming that there is no proof to back up these allegations gets dugg up with double digit positives.
Now go to any submission making similar unsubstantiated claims agaisnt Dell, Sony, Microsoft, etc. People posting the EXACT SAME COMMENT (Where is the proof) get buried quickly.
And of course, since I am pointing out Digg hypocrisy, I will get buried. But you pathetic hypocrite fanboys know you are doing it and can't hide your sadness for long. - PorkFat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This seems like the same type of extremes "conservative" types take when their wife asks them to explain hotgirls.com on the credit card.
They falsely claim fraud and demand a charge back, when it is actually them committing fraud by punishing an innocent company. Customers falsely claiming fraud is the largest source of lost revenue for online adult companies, not stolen credit card numbers. - slamm6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13What's wrong with buying an 11 year old a laptop ? I bought my 3 year old a Porsche. He let's me drive it though.
- notorious., on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This actually, surprisingly, happens all the time. Not usually with porn, mind you, but with customer information on them.
Apple sells all non-defective CPU returns as "refreshed" at a 10% discount (at least in the US, that's how it works). The store is then supposed to "refresh" (ie Erase and Install) the machine, making it available for resale. As you can imagine, this isn't done properly all the time. I've seen refreshed Macs sold out of Flagship Apple retail stores with customers email, contacts, and all their data in tact. Needless to say, I'm glad I wasn't a manager on the day the customer who returned the computer found out that we gave his information away.
I probably shouldn't be talking about this... - NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Fapbook?
- trancelgic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Don't blame Apple. 11yr old girls KNOW where to get the finest pr0n..
- tyho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I find it funny the Brit's first thought is to run to his member of parliament. What a joke.
Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! - SonicRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@nickbender:
How does one forget a step in the reformatting process?
1: Wipe hard drive
2: Install OS
Maybe he didn't reformat it at all in the first place. Who knows what else might have been on there. - ers35, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16"fakeout: What kind of porn was it?"
What a nice thing to ask to a father after his daughter potentially saw porn. - nickbender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9my favorite are the 10 year old computers that come in with a guy that smells like smoke... and there is a thick yellow tar encasing every inch of the motherboard.
mmmm nicotine. - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@alexonix
You might want to rethink that. There's a rumor flying around that it was horse porn. - nickbender, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14coming from a retail environment... i can tell you first hand stuff like this is a common oversight.
Oftentimes lazy technicians miss a step in the reformatting process and neglect to actually erase a past customer's documents.
Apple's fault? not really, just a stupid tech.
Newsworthy? not even remotely. - Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If a Fapbook comes with JPGs, I guess a Fapbook Pro comes with MPGs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Bogus story -- no pics... :)
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm almost certain the man transferred the images elsewhere... and then formatted.
- darkstar949, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I've seen it happen myself before as well. I worked in QC for a computer refurbishing company for a summer and every now and then an unwiped computer would come down the line.
Also, you would be surprised at what else you get when computers are turned in for refurbishing as well - one time a small vile of white powder was found in a laptop bag. The police ended up having to be called so that it could legally be disposed of. - WarMace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Correction, 45yo PARENT buys MacBook with porn on it and gives it to 11yo girl.
You touched it last, Nah-nah!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7we used to get those nicotine encrusted machines at our store, when we turned them on in our workroom it would make the place smell like a humidor...
- Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Or a Digg user
