- austindkelly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8i would not replace your macbook that your dog ate, im pretty sure thats not part of the warranty.
and it is people like you that "work the system" for free stuff, when its clearly your fault, that cause the prices of extended warranties to be so high. - AmazingPaper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Good, because my MagSafe isn't looking too safe anymore, not with all the frayed wires sticking out.
- No13Baby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow! This forum post is very enlightening and most likely very reliable information.
- madmac625, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does the Macbook Pro C2D have the newest 'version' of the magsafe/power adapter? Thanks a lot.
- justinmartinez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2are you having to send your broken adapter back?
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Same here...I called up Apple and they sent me a brand new Magsafe adapter for my Macbook Pro, since there were wires sticking out of the part which goes into the computer. It was all free, even the shipping.
- N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well airport express are a funny thing they all die because of the power supply. Its strange that airport express and airport base station dont have own apple care. Did my research and if you want apple care for airport products its only with apple care for your mac. That and in the uk i was told in the apple store airport express are one of the only few things they dont bother registering the serial number for like they do with ipods etc...... hmmmm curious!
- markormesher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This happened to me Dec. 26th. Went into the Tysons Corner Apple Store in VA to get it replaced. Had to wait until Jan. 11th. They didn't have a loaner or anything, I was expected to just not use the laptop. They told me it would be 3-4 days... I ended up buying another power adapter from BestBuy in order to use my laptop.
Magsafe cords though have been updated. They use thicker plastic with stronger reinforcement. Essentially apple switches magsafe v1 with v2. - adamkmccarthy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm, clearly not the sort of person who understands a bit of sarcasm.....and the household insurance covered it btw
- Firehed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No kidding. It's clearly a manufacturing defect that we're dealing with here (thankfully mine's been without issue so far, but it doesn't seem durable at all), and thus is covered by the warranty. If we took out the digg Apple bias, we'd have been blasting Apple since day one for not dealing with this as they should.
I don't care if I get dugg down here. I'm typing this on a MBP, and out of sheer coincidence I'm drinking a latte too (although it freaked me out yesterday when I realized I dressed like Jobs at a keynote). For the most part, the hardware is good quality (or, at least, the software more than makes up for the high price), but Apple not dealing with this as they should have since day one it just pissing on their customers. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please Please Please let there be a recall... I have three freyed MacBook Pro chargers...I think it's because there is no angled plastic supporter surrounding the plug. Look at every single other cord you have, be it headphones, power, or A/V... they allow for flexibility. The Apple chargers don't have this, which leads to the freying...
- rhodri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A shame they're not willing to do the same with my Airport Express, which died - like so many others - about 2 weeks after the warranty had run out.
- jcblitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Mine malfunctioned and melted, almost caught the couch on fire. Call them up and they'll swap it for you and they'll claim they haven't heard of any of them malfunctioning before.
- catmistake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0weirdness... I had a dream last night that mine melted into a contorted and indescribable shape. It still worked, so I kept using it, and by the time I woke up, it had completely repaired itself. Gotta love Apple.
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The whole focus of the MacBook's power adapter was to prevent the cable from being ripped out. Its something the focused an entire "I'm a Mac" commercial on. Within weeks of a friend having a MacBook Pro, he noticed a kink develop right at the "MagSafe" plug and needs to be careful to prevent this kind of problem from occuring. Apple should replace the power adapters for free as they are not doing exactly what they are supposed to do, and prevent the cable from breaking because its supposed to release from the notebook before that.
But, I guess its better to ruin a $30 (at cost) power adapter then a $2800 notebook.
What's up with cables snapping these days. Did people an Nintendo and Apple fail basic physics and materials science. - bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I call this bs... I was at the store Friday and they wouldnt replace mine...
