- zholmquist, on 03/04/2009, -32/+281Funny how we rush to get the new Mac Updates . . . but when MS releases a new Service Pack - well . . . I cannot remember ever really wanting to install one.
- thealec, on 05/28/2008, -9/+133It's good.
I'm no fanboy, but you've got to like that leopard runs on six year old machines... - scubastza, on 05/28/2008, -25/+141I just took a dump all over my PC in honor of this post.
- MtheoryX, on 05/28/2008, -8/+86You buy the MacBook extension.
- iceooo3, on 05/28/2008, -29/+105Alot of PC users seem to comment on here just to bash the mac, tis sad really. You should stop fighting this resistance and just switch. You won't be less than amazed.
Fisher price? Apple Fanboys? Come on now guys, grow up, we use what we like, we use what works, and we love it, period. - timusca, on 05/28/2008, -11/+81I'm weeping for joy due to the possibility of my WiFi working when it is supposed to. We'll see when I get home this afternoon...
- Protoss, on 05/28/2008, -3/+58"Okay Steve, the update is ready for the public, weighing in at 409 MB."
"Well that won't do! Put 11 MB of padding in there so it can be 420 MB to show our support for the legalization of Marijuana!"
I'm sure that's exactly how it went down. - carterx, on 05/28/2008, -9/+63Details on the update:

Catch is, it appears you must have an iPhone or an iPod touch for the option to appear in your Address Book preferences. - kelly, on 05/28/2008, -18/+59Windows updates break while OS X updates enhance.
- marcushe, on 05/28/2008, -2/+33The point of minor updates is not to add features - but to fix bugs.
- Echomote, on 05/28/2008, -2/+27You seriously tried it thinking it wouldn't muck something up?
- fofusion, on 05/28/2008, -2/+27Ha ha ha
Only on digg. - Sairynn, on 05/28/2008, -3/+28Doesn't that just depend on the period of the graph? Technically, a sine graph doesn't have to oscillate very often at all.
- pizzatsf, on 05/28/2008, -2/+24Oh please god yes. I had to buy a 50ft Cat5e cable to keep a stable connection. My wireless goes up and down more than a sine graph.
- enicholas, on 05/28/2008, -3/+24This is largely because the Mac update process is a lot better.
- stephapple, on 05/28/2008, -4/+24Ouch 402MB! ... Just installed it. Installed pretty quickly too considering how big it was and I was back up and running in a couple of minutes.
- stevene, on 05/28/2008, -1/+21Actually, it depends on your setup. My iMac (mid 2007) showed the update as being 420mb, whereas an older PowerBook G4 showed only 192mb.
- spz104, on 05/28/2008, -3/+22You make me sick, stealing from Apple!!!
...and hey, thanks for the heads up. - iNiz, on 05/28/2008, -1/+20or go to insanelymac.com
- FFXIfrohike, on 05/28/2008, -2/+21"Improves the accuracy of the Software Update progress bar indicator."
LOL - griz, on 05/28/2008, -11/+28Don't you mean, "How do I install this over windows?"
- jmreid, on 05/28/2008, -2/+19What CS3 problems?
- kevdotbadger, on 05/28/2008, -4/+21hehe, 69.
- AvidPreatorian, on 05/28/2008, -4/+21now it just works better. don't you have a virus to quarantine or something? SHOO
- vawksel, on 05/28/2008, -4/+20Try installing Vista SP1, three reboots, like a half hour of disk activity.
Stage 1 of 3.......... - weizilla, on 05/28/2008, -0/+16what the hell. why would it only work if you have an iPhone and iPod touch????
- MtheoryX, on 05/28/2008, -4/+20Really? Because I just installed it, idiot.
- usingpond, on 05/28/2008, -3/+18Because as we all know, quantity > quality.
- drlha, on 05/28/2008, -1/+15This isn't your blog you know.
- BossKey, on 05/28/2008, -4/+17Those gay fanboys are just jealous that they don't have Macs.
- Stryder81, on 05/28/2008, -3/+16Apple has been releasing a good number of updates in the past few months haven't they?
It seemed like every week or every other week, something was being updated.
I'm a mac user since March ( and a very happy one ) just wondering if this was normal?
Not that I truly care because I love my imac, just curious. - scubastza, on 05/28/2008, -4/+16Let's hope Apple decides to tackle that HUGE Starcraft problem in their next update titled: "Games from the 1990's that don't work will still not work. Get a new game"
- phoomp, on 05/28/2008, -7/+19Funny how we rush to install a MacOS update, only to complain the next day about it breaking WiFi (10.5.2), only to rush to install the next update, only to complain about it breaking 'X'.
Perhaps we're always rushing to install a MacOS update because something is always broken ... - inactive, on 05/28/2008, -5/+17The big difference is that when MS releases patches, they end up slowing down, destabilizing, and often breaking the system, whereas when Apple releases patches, they make the OS better. I used Windows exclusively for more than 10 years, now I use Mac, because it's just clearly better, more modern, less intrusive, more elegant, and has better features. Mac OS is something to get excited about. Windows hasn't been exciting since the '90s.
- usingpond, on 05/28/2008, -1/+13Haha what an airtight argument. Pro tip: Do not go for a law degree.
- jasmus, on 05/28/2008, -1/+12It took me about a year before I could say "I don't need windows anymore". I was pretty much forced to learn OS X so I could do some basic phone support for an ISP on OS X. Luckily the Mac Mini was just released so I snagged one, six weeks later when it arrived, I barely used it at all. 6 months later, I was using it about half as much as my windows box. One year later, I was looking at replacing my windows box with an iMac.
It's not easy "un-learning" windows, but I have to say I think I'm better off now. - dkitch, on 05/28/2008, -2/+13As much as it pains me to defend Apple, updates are common for operating systems. Any OS these days contains millions of lines of code. Often, minor fixes/tweaks are needed post-shipment. If you think of each of these lines of code as a moving part in a machine, think of these patches like a routine service.
- VeritasAequitas, on 05/28/2008, -4/+14Not that it has as much to do with updates per say but, its funny to see how mac people rush to update their OS everytime a new one drops when windows users for the most part sit idle and cling to their old OS's like business' and schools that are scared to death to implement Vista, hell some are still on 2000!
- vawksel, on 05/28/2008, -6/+16Neither, he is implying mac updates make an already great OS even better.
Windows updates seem to break existing functionality and introduce even more problems. - P373Y, on 05/28/2008, -1/+11would you like to take a look at the average windows user?
the internet was deleted, wheres the blue e - jacobfarenzi, on 05/28/2008, -6/+16Hooray! My new MacBook can finally play DVDs without having a kernel panic after installing this update!
- SamirGupta, on 05/28/2008, -4/+14Let's hope they fixed the issues with Time Machine hanging during backups because of it and Spotlight fighting (just google [ time machine hanging spotlight ] for more details).
- basye, on 05/28/2008, -3/+13My early 2001 G4 Cube (upgraded to 1.8) runs just fine on Leopard.
- jhop, on 05/28/2008, -4/+14I've never heard anyone complain that Vista runs too well on a six year old machine.
- chesscat, on 05/28/2008, -26/+35The best gets bester.
- canthraxp, on 05/28/2008, -1/+10I agree that general fanboyism is wrong, but I can't agree with a comment that states "You should stop fighting this resistance and just switch.", "we use what works". That same attitude of "Dude, get a mac" is what fuels fan boys in the first place, from both "factions". Saying other people to grow up, while stating THAT, is far from ironic, I don't know words to describe it.
And if you (or anyone else) is wondering, I'm writing on linux, it works for me, if you don't use it, good for you. -
