- homestar14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+64Sweet ad--saw it tonight on tv.
I believe it tells the public what the new features of it are, even without words:
1) It's smaller.
2) You can clip it. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -9/+53oh shut up.
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44i do not concur
wicked commercial though - andrewguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38I just replaced my 3gen iPod with the new shuffle, I'm very impressed with it. At first I was thinking of just using it for jogging and the gym but I really like how I don't even feel it weighing down my pockets etc.I think it's going to be my main ipod even when the new true iPod video comes out.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Stop looking down.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35I take it you live in the States? It should be on TV here in Ireland by 2009, along with those Mac ads.
- orgazmo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Never been a huge iPod fan, but that ad, I must admit, is pretty neat
For those who don't speak french: "I really like what you're doing, I like your style, I like your game" - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24And for those of you that don't speak English: "I play the banjo!!" LOL
- nklepper, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26oh yes they do...ives seen it, i have.
- MedHead, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20I usually slap people for wearing clothes, but I guess if iPods are your source of hatred...
- Judge373, on 10/12/2007, -11/+25Umm, that's why the clip's there. I know I wear mine around on my clothes like that all the time....I don't wanna lose it. Plus, it looks hella cool.
- digitalbuzz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Better than a mobile phone/smartphone/PDA clipped on. Somehow my Blackberry adds 5 years to my age when it's on my belt.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20My friggin' law teacher does. And you know how hip those lawyers are..
..Why wouldn't you? - dimsum05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Simple and Appealing...
Just like the product it's advertising!
I likey!!! - Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15While I don't have a shuffle like that, I do have the clip play and shuffle remote that it was based on, that plugs into larger iPods... and I wear it all the time like that. What the hell are you talking about man?
- Vindstille, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Who cares. Everyone sees you have an iPod anyway, when you're wearing those white Apple-headphones.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is not a news site: this is a popularity contest site, by design. (Really, think about it, and be honest. That's what digg is.) It just happens to take news submissions.
- Gobd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I always clip it on my pocket, and probably would clip it on a button up shirt, or bottom of a shirt like in the video in certain situations. Such a great little player. Apple really does make fine commercials.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I suppose a masochist could clip it to their nipples or something.
- seinman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Most people use the term "rotoscoping" incorrectly, and therefore many people don't know what it actually is.
In layman's terms, rotoscoping is creating an animation or effect on film/video that isn't actually there in the print. Light sabers come to mind. This commercial, on the other hand, only uses footage that was actually shot on film. The correct term for this is compositing, which is combining multiple video clips into one. Yes, the "edge" or area where one clip blends to another has to be animated frame by frame, but this alone does not make it rotoscoped. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Hey Naio! Yer mom's calling. Your poptarts are ready,
naio: ALRIGHT! - Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9My only gripe is that the new Shuffle is damn popular. Amazon hasn't had it in stock for quite some time.
- ernopena, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7isn't it also amazing the video quality of QuickTime at that level. You can't create anything that good that big with WMV, or DIVX or any other format...
- Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Very nice. Definitely a slick commercial.
- AhmedB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Compare that to 'Welcome to the Social', talk about cheesy lines!!!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Uh I've seen many people clip it to their clothes or pockets and it's so small that you don't notice unless you know what it is.. I don't understand what you guys have against it.. the whole point of the clip is so you can easily attach it to your clothes and forget about it.
- datcrazydj, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Damn. Where's the wardrobe malfunction when you need it...
- seinman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm sure it would be, if the commercial had actually used rotoscoping. It doesn't.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@mikefitz2
First, the Shuffle is silver, not white.
Second, it costs $79, not $110.
Perhaps it was a first gen Shuffle that you bought. In that case, if it didn't work "out of the box," I would suggest taking it back and getting a new one.
The only way they "wouldnt repair/refund me!" (sic) is if A) you physically broke the thing or B) you bought it used off eBay or something. - dirkytheDIGGler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Sweet commercial
- altempo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@ mikefitz2: you're retarded...
- HarleyQuinn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Does it come in Brown? ;-)
- cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Cute, effective lil' ad.
And there's one HOT stomach in there. ;-) - badtz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5where's the cool linux and microsoft commercials? At least apple puts some creative thoughts into their commercials. douche.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The reason for no wardrobe malfunctions: there's nothing to clip the Shuffle to without clothes. (Flab, body lawns, and sagging boobs don't count, nor do they sell too well.)
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4As printed by naio with his way cool state of the art dot-matrix printer
- pyrates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good commercial and the effects it used but incredibly annoying song.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wikipedia is your friend.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscope
Rotoscoping is essentially a technique to create animation (usually hand drawn) over live footage.
Remember the video "Take On Me" by Haha? That was rotoscoping. I guess the light sabers in SW could also count as rotoscoping.
The original Prince of Persia could be said to be using rotoscoping. - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah but some people are in denial...
By the way, this ad is in .h264 which is not exclusive to Quicktime, but still, kudos to Apple for pushing this great open format. Too bad the Zune doesn't play .h264 natively and requires lengthy and lossy transcoding... - DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4 marix and naio are PC/Zune suck dicks with no clue. Take back your zune like the majority of zune owners and find a Microfag thread to stink up once you've bought a superior iPod.
- MonkeyBoy87, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Oh the irony. A song with francophone lyrics and its not available on itunes.ca....
- ctiptonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nope.
- ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Did anybody notice the Product Red clothing? I counted 3.
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree with you Delmonte.
I don't understand why people don't get all hissy fit over Microsoft's video/audio formats. AAC, H.264, Mpeg-2/4 are all formats that Apple heavily pushes, and none of them belong exclusively to Apple. They are all formats that belong with popular DVD/HD formats.
How about Microsoft? Everyone should just publish their videos/audio in these formats, since it can be played across platforms. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well done Apple!
Love my new shuffle, too! - CrankyMcGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Rotoscoping? Play the video frame by frame through the transitions. This was digital compositing using carefully preplanned transitions. It's like Photoshop layers using an eraser and brush for drop shadows. Some of those shadows are really quite crude, but come at you so fast you don't notice too much. Other transitions were brilliant, like the two girls in the beginning with their body shapes and motions matching up, and the guy unzipping his jacket into the belly girl. Overall, I believe the commercial was well done and will be quite memorable for the holiday shopping season. Microsoft's Zune ads were obscure by comparison.
- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Prototypes – nice choice
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I know and older lady that wears it clipped to her clothes. All her friends just think it is some fancy lapel they don't even realize it plays music.
- samuelcotterall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't believe that people criticise others for wearing an iPod, rather than leaving it in their pocket. If you work out and wear tracksuit pants a lot, then you will know that anything lighter that an iPod Mini will jump straight out of your pocket as soon as you move at anything more than walking pace.
I wouldn't clip it onto the front of my jacket, but the edge of my pocket, or the bottom of my t-shirt yeah. It's a brilliant idea.
And the advert works too. So much so I think I might bite the bullet and pick one up later. - whoisjohnlai, on 03/12/2009, -0/+1saw the brand new ipod shuffle and i got say, its hard to toss up with what i got now, do i get rid of the very very small and portable shuffle or the new sleek ipod shuffle??
