Apple: More iPhone Features Coming
informationweek.com — "If you're disappointed by some of the features not found on the iPhone, time will cure your ills. According to comments made recently by an Apple spokesperson, the Cupertino firm plans to add more functionality over the coming months."

- IvanB, on 11/15/2007, -3/+12I heard more bluetooth support and video camera.
- Firehed, on 11/15/2007, -4/+21I heard free service for everyone, a 3G upgrade, and the dock-connector money printers are already being shipped out.

- IvanB, on 11/15/2007, -3/+12I heard more bluetooth support and video camera.
- clak, on 11/15/2007, -12/+129I don't understand why anyone is surprised by this. Remember when everyone used to complain that the iPhone didn't have ringtones and a Wifi Store. Well guess what, now we have ringtones and a Wifi Store (and space bar double tap for periods). No one stopped long enough from bitching about the SDK to think to themselves, hey, they delivered new software functions. Maybe they're planning more. Oh no, it's easier to bitch and moan and accuse, three to four months into a product's life cycle.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: We live in the Age of Instant Gratification. People in other parts of the world are worrying about how they're going to get their next meal and we, here in America, worry ourselves to death about a damn phone.- smellytim, on 11/15/2007, -14/+2o thank god for space bar double tap for periods. that was such a ***** hassle.
it is kinda bs to not give us features that have been mandatory on crap phones for a while now.- Firehed, on 11/15/2007, -2/+9My old crap phone didn't even HAVE a spacebar, let alone one that would auto-insert periods for me. Can't say I was bothered dragging my finger over a quarter of an inch from the symbol button to add a period and tbh the new method will take some getting used to (just habit at this point), but I can't complain. All they need now is predictive punctuation.
- pintomp3, on 11/15/2007, -3/+4people in most of the world have better phones available to them than we do in the US. part of the reason people were bitching is because there are products out there that already have features they were hoping to see in their new iphone. things like bluetooth DUN, video capture, 3g, etc. is it about instant-gratification or a rush product launch? depends on your perspective.
- SWMpls, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2Okaaay Mr. Crabbypants.
- DeadlyNinja, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1you would bitch too if you had crabs in your pants.
- SWMpls, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2Okaaay Mr. Crabbypants.
- JDHarper, on 11/15/2007, -6/+5I think that if this were any other phone, there wouldn't be this constant complaining about missing features.
But Steve Jobs & Apple set this thing up as the *ultimate* phone, the super-smart phone. They promised a phone that was better than anything on the market, and they didn't deliver. My Blackberry can do more than the iPhone can, if only by virtue of having third party applications (coming soon on the iPhone), full-featured Bluetooth (stereo audio, GPS, file transfer, etc.), and freaking Copy and Paste. My phone isn't as pretty or easy to use as the iPhone, but it can do more. The iPhone is a victim of its own hype.- hobbitaussie, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6Can do more != better. I have a BlackBerry, a Windows Mobile device (actually 3 blackberries and 6 WM devices) and the iPhone *is* the best at what it does.
- Eallan, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2My iPhone fails calls quite frequently and the speaker is awful.
- hobbitaussie, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6Can do more != better. I have a BlackBerry, a Windows Mobile device (actually 3 blackberries and 6 WM devices) and the iPhone *is* the best at what it does.
- curiousvelocity, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4But people on the other side of the world are outside of my Monkeysphere.
- Zyphron, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3I think people are responding to the fact that one of the most expensive phones on the market should have one of the best feature sets on the market.
If Microsoft has produced the phone, the headlines would read "Feature update for iPhone STILL MONTHS away!" Diggers are a good deal more tolerant of apple's exclusions then they are of most other companies out there. Some of the complains in this case are quite valid things that Apple SHOULD have got right. (the double space for perioud being a perfect example.)
All that being said, APPLE, PLEASE GET ENTERPRISE E-MAIL SUPPORT! PLEASE! - Ricky8765, on 11/15/2007, -3/+2@Clak
Wait, let me see if I can understand this... and maybe teach a lesson to those who don't have a $600 phone... Ready?
To all of you living in modern, relatively successful countries who have ever complained about anything. You have no right. Did your grandmother die? Did you start crying because God is so cruel to take her away from you and not allow you to ever see her again? Well shut up and stop crying, you have no right to cry about your grandma when there are kids in third world countries who watch family members get murdered everyday right in front of their eyes. Have you ever been in a car wreck and wondered how the hell you're going to afford to repair the damage or replace the car since you only have liability insurance? Well grow up and stop whining, there are people out there that could only dream of owning a car. Are you working a crap-ass job where you barely make enough money to pay bills and rent for your 500 sq-ft apartment? Well suck it up and just be glad you have a job in the first place and an actual roof over your head. Are you sad because your son just broke his arm and now they can't play college ball and as a result is not ineligible to receive a full ride to a top SEC school? Get over it, there are kids out there who are lucky enough to just get out of high school alive, so just be happy your kid isn't dead. Were your kids upset when they didn't get their toy with their unbelievable unhealthy happy meal? Slap them and tell them just to be happy they're even alive because kids in Ethiopia don't even know when they'll be able to eat next. Were you molested as a child? That's too bad, but what about all those little girls in Africa who are raped all the time by both sides of an eternal power struggle or the child sex slaves who have no rights at all and most likely won't live past the age of 16... See, all that pain and suffering at the hands of your uncle is meaningless now right?
So remember, when something unfortunate happens to you or a loved one, you're not allowed to get upset because something worse is happening to someone you don't know or give a ***** about in some place you've never heard about.
If any of you didn't see the sarcasm in my post... die in a fire- moyness, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Man, you're more Emo than peter parker on spiderman 3.
- Ricky8765, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1It was sarcasm... I was mocking the OP's stupid lesson of "dont complain about a phone because people in other countries don't even know if they'll be able to eat." That worked when you were 8, but life is relative, you can't compare your life with that of some 6 year old Ethiopian kid and instantly be happy cause you're better off. Wake up people
- moyness, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Man, you're more Emo than peter parker on spiderman 3.
- Ricky8765, on 11/15/2007, -1/+1To add something... damn edit time limit
Pain and unfortunate circumstances are relative... If some of you are that upset about new apps for your phone (yes I have an iPhone too) then you must have lead a relatively pain free life, congratulations on being so fortunate - Eallan, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Yea yea, America is evil because we care about our phones. No one else anywhere cares about stuff they spend their money on.
Get over yourself. - richardhenry, on 11/15/2007, -0/+7And the UK! Don't forget we're all ***** over here too.
- Ricky8765, on 11/15/2007, -1/+4Speaking of the UK, I'm flying to London next summer and was wondering if I should bring some toothbrushes to hand out. Is it too late or can your country's teeth be salvaged?

- vinblackham, on 11/15/2007, -5/+25please add MMS...email's great, but MMS is so much easier! Video would be sick too!
- Firehed, on 11/15/2007, -2/+16How is MMS any easier? Just add your buddies' text emails (8005551212@vtext.com, etc) into your address book if it bothers you. Trust me, I'd rather waste the five seconds it takes to add that into the contact once than to be charged fifty cents every time I send someone a crappy picture.
- JKVM, on 11/15/2007, -3/+6Amen to that. If only everyone would drop MMS support!
- frankietears, on 11/15/2007, -0/+9Sending it is no problem, but have you tried looking at one sent to you?
ViewMyMessage.com is the demon spawn from hell.
.... unless you enjoy flicking back and forth to memorize 9 digit alphanumeric logins and passcodes. - monkeymad2, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Okay, MMS support for the UK then. No forgetting about us.
- br0ken1128, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3Meh .. it isn't as simple as all that sometimes, a few friends of mine have cell plans that do not work with email yet MMS functions perfectly well.
MMS is good .. attach a photo, send it to a phone number.. period .. it's intuitive and makes more sense that way, the e-mail thing feels like a messy work around.- kidcodea, on 11/15/2007, -0/+5mms is good, the telecom charging is not. dont blame it on the tech, blame it on the greedy *****

-Copy & Paste
-Gestures
-Full Bluetooth stack, stereo audio, file transfer, keyboard, GPS, etc
-Flash
-iChat
-Direct podcast downloading
-iTunes Radio / Video streaming
-Icons for artists (the list looks so drab compared to the Albums list)
-Visualizations
-Text-to-Speech
-Sports Score widget (or a general purpose Dashboard implementation)- stalefries, on 11/15/2007, -0/+5How would you go about doing the icons for artists?
- deadbaby, on 11/15/2007, -2/+2Should be pretty easy. The iPod app uses a database for all the meta data -- that could hold the graphic. The images themselves would come from the iTunes Store or manually inserted via iTunes.
- bruck, on 11/15/2007, -2/+0Ipods get the album artwork from the song file, its embedded - one artwork graphic per individual song. - But they could use the 1st album in chronological order's artwork to represent artist. That i'd be happy with!

- staticdrifter, on 11/15/2007, -0/+15I would also add find option in safari and search for email.
- KeepSwinging, on 11/15/2007, -0/+10A news widget would be great too. There's so much potential in that little case.
- Firehed, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4I'd be very much content with MobileSafari RSS integration. Or a Google Reader app (the full version is rather awkward on the iPhone, and the mobile version is... well, bleh). Over-widgetizing things would just be silly when RSS is really a great solution for frequently updated content - news, sports, etc.
- cgruber, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1There is RSS support already.
- luchid, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Google had 3 updates to the mobile version of Google Reader, it's much much better now.

- tastethevenom, on 11/15/2007, -5/+1Many other suggestions to vote on: http://www.fevote.com/apple/iphone
- Firehed, on 11/15/2007, -1/+5TBH, if flash support comes (and I'm sure it will in time), I'll be making use of the "Plugins: Off" option in Safari prefs. The last thing I need to see on a 3" screen with a fairly low-bandwidth connection is more advertisements, and there are so few things that use it in a meaningful way to have me bothered with enabling it. Maybe on a site-by-site basis for the video sites out there
- srg13, on 11/15/2007, -1/+5Hopefully at least you will be able to set it so you have to tap on a flash object before it loaded - I haven't yet needed flash in all the time I've owned an iPod touch, and I wouldn't want it most of the time either.
- alwaysnomadic, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Nokia's feature's department should hook up with Apple's design people. Many of these features are available on Nokia's top-end Symbian devices but Apple wins hands down on design & interface. For me I need function over form and I use a lot of 3rd party apps on top of what's already available from Symbian OS or comes out of Nokia Labs. I doubt Nokia will ever produce a device as pretty as Apple can but they are further ahead on spec & expansion so I hope Apple listen to their users to incorporate the necessary hardware - better camera, GPS.. and then also let 3rd party apps in. Open up shop Apple - don't be a control freak.
- br0ken1128, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I'd really just be happy to have some basic features added .. MMS would be nice, the ability to save pictures that people send me would be nice, iChat would be nice .. though I imagine it to be a battery killer ..
- neferiousrich, on 11/15/2007, -2/+1would you like fries with that?

- REDBLIND, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Exactly. Who actually expected there not to be? Isn't this the whole idea of the iPhone?
- digitallysick, on 11/15/2007, -0/+5i want landscape txt mode (with a mini keyboard that doesn't fill half the screen , cant they make it just make it a decent size?) i hate having to txt on that tiny keypad. Also make it where when i have my bluetooth headset on and i check visual voicemail that they dont autoplay through the iphone, instead they should play through my headset, i always have to "select" headset. I agree the poster "deadbaby" above , alot of those features would be great. Id be happy with unrestricted bluetooth

- MaidenFan2358, on 11/15/2007, -5/+6Combine this with the news that Nintendo is going AAC format for Wii and I think that it might mean that an official gameboy emulator might be coming for the iPhone. The hackers have shown us that it can be done, it would be pure profit for Nintendo, (selling us old content for the umpteenth time) and makes the iphone one of the most attractive mobile phones on the market.
Now think about it: how many times have you bought the original Zelda? Looks like I might be getting it again, but for my iphone.- Firehed, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I've used both the NES and very new (and very much beta) GBA emulator on my iPhone. While they're amusing, the lack of tactile feedback makes them practically worthless. While I think Apple made it work pretty well with the virtual keyboard, the D-pad just doesn't translate well at all. And that's before the whole area of battery life, porting quality or game DRM, pricing, etc.
It's a fun way to pass a bit of time, but an official thing isn't going to happen. The controls are too frustrating to ever show up on an Apple product. If they made a funky dock-connector addon it could happen, but then they'd just end up taking a bunch of ***** from iPhone haters about how the touch-screen isn't versatile enough (as if playing on 3mm^2 keys on a blackberry would work better) and how it's not backwards compatible with the 1G iPod and such.
As a pointless afterthought to answer your question: none. Though I've bought A Link To The Past no less than three times (SNES, GBA, Wii VC). - dustinmacdonald, on 11/15/2007, -1/+11What? How does Nintendo 'going AAC' have anything to do with games, let alone Nintendo games, on the iPhone?
- drunkenoaf, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6He's only 12*. They think like that.
*probably. - MaidenFan2358, on 11/15/2007, -6/+2***** off *****. Its speculation.
- PixelD, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4By who? You? Wii is moving from mp3 to AAC is for the cost of licensing. Its cheaper. Nothing to do with the Iphone, simple as that. Now go back to your little hole.
- drunkenoaf, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6He's only 12*. They think like that.

- masterc, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I'm glad to hear this. Like the guys said on a recent Diggnation, the iPhone is boring without the extra features made available by the 3rd party apps. I don't think an app is necessary just to bring a small bit of functionality.
- profitline, on 11/15/2007, -4/+4New features are good since i am looking forward to own one soon.
- bruck, on 11/15/2007, -1/+9Needs search function for contacts - basically spotlight. I know they say its coming - but it needs it until it arrives. This will improve the phone functionality more than anyone can expect. Just talk to someone who uses a windows mobile phone about the quick search feature or pick up a device like the Moto Q. Start to type a name at the home screen - BAM! All apple has to do is add spotlight to the home button menu that they recently added when the itouch came out.
Imagine typing "Greg" and seeing greg's phone #, address, last email convo, last SMS convo right in front of you....- Billions, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I know, that will be a welcome feature, although I haven't missed it as much as I thought I would when I realized it wasn't on the iPhone. It's so sickeningly obvious and it even hints at it when you start adding an e-mail address to the 'To:' area in a new e-mail, or when you're in safari and your bookmarks start showing when you begin to enter a webpage. There must have been a reason for the omission, maybe it wasn't ready at launch or something. Get with it, Apple, you're a master at this sort of functionality, stay the course!
- br0ken1128, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2You know, something I didn't think I'd miss .. but do .. is the ability to forward individual messages.. or quote a response.. we should have the option to view sms in the ichat way or in a traditional way - sometimes I have people asking me what I was responding to because maybe they got a text way late.. or perhaps I'm relaying a message.. I have to then re-type everything
- Willmonwah, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3This is totally legitimate. Apple's CFO or COO promised new features to be rolled out over time for free in their earnings conference call from a couple quarters back.
- tnoy, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2I like to buy things based on what it has, not what it might have sometime in an undetermined amount of time. I'm going to be getting a new phone soon. I've been leaning twards the iPhone, but there are just too many comprimises I'd have to make. I'm likely to get the Tilt, despite it having a crapier interface and being thicker. At least it does everything I want. C'mon Apple, Impress me.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I agree, but with the awesome potential of the little machine and the innovative track record the company has, I'm still happy with my early purchase (didn't pay $600, not that early.)
I'm impressed Apple, but keep the ball rolling.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I agree, but with the awesome potential of the little machine and the innovative track record the company has, I'm still happy with my early purchase (didn't pay $600, not that early.)

- jeru48, on 11/15/2007, -2/+10anyone actually read this story? It's basically lacking in any content or news -- "This just in, Apple can upgrade their software with a firmware update --- AND WILL!" I love the iPhone and Apple as much as the next guy, but this story is lame.
- pyrates, on 11/15/2007, -1/+4If they add a feature in that a third party app already supplies, that new firmware is worthless to me. I only want a few things added:
Copy and Paste
Skype
Let me add my own damn ringtones
That's all for now. Everything else I've wanted I've gotten through third party apps.- pyrates, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Here's some more:
Easy way to enter in my wifi password
Able to backup everything from my iphone, that includes sms messages and basically the complete list of settings I had for it- GliTCH82, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1It already does that. iTunes backs up your iPhone, and if you ever restore it it puts back all your numbers, text messages, e-mail settings, it even puts back all the application preferences files for applications that I installed after I jailbroke the iPhone so, for example, my SummerBoard wallpaper settings get restored.
- pyrates, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Here's some more:
- nosecohn, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2voice dialing?
- beerbarron, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I'd like it when your hands free, you could have an assigned text to voice stating who the caller is.
- angrycat, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Just as long as they push give us touch users the relevant extra features as well, or at least make them compatible so we can port them over ourselves :)
- Billions, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I was really hoping for details when I saw that headline, but Apple won't let those sort of things out of the bag this early... Truly, I was expecting more OS X integration features to be added when Leopard came out a few weeks ago. Like, I don't know, searching the contacts or the 'to-do' on the phone to integrate with a 'to do' in the new mail app. I suppose February will be here before I know it and we'll see how they keep this going.
- hiro, on 11/15/2007, -2/+1Never was the phrase "All show and no go" more appropriate
- ThankTheCheese, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I think they'll need to, because as much as I want an iPhone right now, it won't be available here for a year or so, and those Google demo videos are looking pretty damn cool.
- diargasm, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4I agree with all of the suggestions here, but also fix the weak speaker phone.
- MacParrot, on 11/15/2007, -3/+2Think I'll keep using my crappy non-iPhone until at least version 2 or 3 comes out.
- DarkDx, on 11/15/2007, -4/+1PLease, Please, PLease:
-MMS
-Settings in the camera, I wonder how in the hell apple didn't include this considering that even the crappiest phone cameras have brightness control, etc.
-Video recording, c'mon, you have to be prepared when something worth of filming happens and you don't carry a camera with you. *cough* schools fights *cough* - DaleoftheUK, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1If they sort out more software features, then all they'd need is for the new model to have 3G and a better camera.
- beerbarron, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2I couldn't really care for 3G, I'd like to see more accessories available for the iPhone, like maybe external storage.
For images, I'd like to see basic photo editing functions, like crop, black and white, colour balance, Contrast, flickr uploader, RSS feed button?(not sure if this is possible).
For the Calendar, I'd like to see google cal sync, outlook sync, and any other popular calendar tools,
For email, I'd like to be able to compose, and then select which smtp feed to send from.
Like others have said MMS would be nice, although I am fine with email.
For the iPod, I'd like a visualizer ala iTunes style. I am not sure if its currently possible as I have not tried, but if it isnt, I'd also like to create my on playlists on the go.
For google maps, I'd like to get up to date traffic reports, and maybe the abbilty of public transport companies to be able to give train and bus time tables.
I'd also like to see a basic word processor and excel function, along with a directory structure- KrinkleStyle, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0You can already sync with outlook on windows, but some more choices with be nice.
- beerbarron, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1How about syncing via the net?
- threejump, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6wireless sync please
- lordsandwich, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I'd like them to go the extra mile and allow you to add/remove songs and podcasts from your home iTunes library from anywhere with a wifi connection. But that'd cut into their tiered pricing based on storage capacity, so I'm not gonna hold my breath.
- MJDub, on 11/15/2007, -0/+53G needs a different type of radio transmitter than what's in the iPhone. They did this in order to get better battery life. So no amount of software updating or complaining about it can give you 3G.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2True. Current 3G-capable radios are not very battery-life friendly, nor or they friendly to unlockers who wish to use their iPhones overseas.
- handsoffme, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Somewhat true on the first part...but 3G is actually better overseas.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Yes, you're right, it is, because the implementations are standard. America's implementations are off-standard in their frequency settings which aren't editable in all 3G radios (but can be changed in firmware in some.) So yes, 3G is much better overseas, but if a US 3G handset were unlocked, there'd be a much higher chance of it not working overseas than a regular GSM handset.

- frankgilroy, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Can I just say ... duh!?! I wish I could get paid to write articles like that. I'd have a great deal more time to waste on digg.
- fahrvergnuugen, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2For the love of god, add party shuffle to the iPhone and iPod. I want so badly to be able to select a song and "play it next" without interrupting the song that's currently playing (or killing the current selection of songs that are shuffling).
- dhmlco, on 11/15/2007, -2/+1The following blog lists several reasons why major upgrades to the iPhone probably AREN'T coming in the near future. Biggest reason? Leopard, of course.
http://www.iSights.org/2007/11/apple-says-more.htm ...- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1No thanks on the blog spam. I'm sure anything you can post on your site you can cut and paste here with only seconds of work.
- dhmlco, on 11/16/2007, -1/+1First, digg isn't a blog, but a place to discuss "other" blogs and their subjects. And secondly, the post and the blog entry was in fact directly related to the topic at hand. Hardly spam.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1No thanks on the blog spam. I'm sure anything you can post on your site you can cut and paste here with only seconds of work.
- pell, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0Once the iphone can sync notes and have a to-do list to integrate with leopards mail and ical programs, I am set. What else do you REALLY need? It already kicks serious ass imho.
- phrozen755, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3ADD ADOBE FLASH!
- Eddiecoaster, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Flash + A2DP + web radio support would be awesome. Id be set with those features.
- Quix, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1This is all well and good, and has been the implication since day one, but how about *actually STARTING to add features* Apple? We're 4 1/2 months into the great iPhone Adventure and I haven't seen any truly significant improvements, new features, or glaring shortcomings addressed.
Love my iPhone, but the promised update process is definitely moving much more slowly than I expected.
A unified email inbox would be a nice start.- unmarked, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2From what I've head, the iPhone is based on an early Leopard branch of OS X (necessary to get it out the door in a timely manner). This is also why I believe they haven't offered up a real SDK. Apple is likely putting a lot of effort into synching back with the shipping pieces of Leopard (that the iPhone uses) and putting into place key components necessary to support the new SDK. That will be very significant. Once that is completed, it will bring much faster iPhone app development both inside and outside of Apple.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Not to mention getting a whole world of new APIs and UI elements standard, documented, callable, usable, and tested under an ever-changing hacked-for-time kernel built for a brand-new super-limited-resources platform. Oh, and utilizing the security hierarchy thats already under the hood (not run all the shipped binaries as root, etc) as well as documenting best practices, creating help files, creating a sane toolchain that snaps into XCode and "Just works"... you know, trivial stuff that makes things move, you know, slowly.
True words, unmarked.

- neferiousrich, on 11/15/2007, -3/+1until the iPhone can do my laundry, my homework, and get into law school for me, no thank you.
- Quix, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4If you need someone to do your homework for you, perhaps law school isn't your best choice...
- neferiousrich, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1lol... good point!
- scottjl, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2did anyone expect apple to say they'll be rolling out less features in the upcoming months? this one is a no-brainer.
- davidrossiii, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but the point is that they are doing it via software updates and not releasing an entirely new phone. This is slightly strange for Apple, since they tend to set the feature set in stone after it's release.
- cakestick, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2GIVE ME MY ***** TODO LIST. :-(
- bpeacock22, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Notes not working for you? Or an integrated to-do with ical?
- rtmag, on 11/15/2007, -2/+1Let's just hope all the hacked iPhones don't turn into iBricks all over again.
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Since they didn't last time, or ever, your use of the word "again" is a little strange. If you were referring to the time where a bunch of people modified their baseband firmware using a buffer overflow exploit and then cried when the new firmware update did unpredictable things when it couldn't checksum the block of code, then maybe you'd have something. But that instance had nothing to do with "hacked" iPhones simply using third-party native-binary software.
- beerbarron, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I know they are including spotlight search, which will be good for the iPod part, I wonder if they will create a file structure, as well
- kungfool, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Why is this news? Apple's been saying since before launch that it was planning to release new iPhone features via Software Update. And it already has, as others here have pointed out.
- tvstare, on 11/15/2007, -4/+1that wood be so cool if it wood do butt sex with me and you know use gps to find my gspot so what if im a guy i just LOVE MY IPHONE IN MORE WAYS THEN 1 WHAT DO YOU GUYS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT YOU GUYS
- bigsteve, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I think we need more than just a capcha when signing up for accounts. Maybe a spelling test, we could show pictures of animals and the user seeking an account would have to like, spell them, or spell the sound they make.
You know... something. Because the capcha is doing a pretty good job of keeping bots out... but frankly, I'd rather read spam.

- Create, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Hmmm... I am surprised no one else thinks the reason Apple left features out is so that if/when the iPhone was broken to work on other networks or hacked in any other way deemed unwanted... they can disable those by firmware updates, and if included in the firmware updates are valuable features or add-ons... people will keep updating... which also gives Apple the opportunity to fix the hacked phones
its really irrelevant as eventually (if not for the most part, already) these features have been/will be provided by the hacks on the iPhone - fani, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3I need
- bluetooth
- screen that gives slight tactile feedback so your fingers are not tapping always on hard glass
- voice dialling
- speed dialling
- video recording
- MMS
- proper GPS. No Stupid typing where you are first.
- faster internet connectivity ( really ATT here )
- open iPhone up as portable HDD
- ability to add unix apps without hacks ( ssh client, terminal app, FS browser )- flarizle, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Agreed with most of those. A task list would be nice too.
- cedars1974, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I agree with you. I finally broke down and sold my day 1 iPhone and bought the Nokia N95-3. Every single wish that every poster has made above is already present on that phone. I will miss the bigger touch screen and I for one actually loved the keyboard, but I can't keep waiting for the updates that never come. I may be back one day but I might as well have the features I need now. My final breaking point was never hearing the goddamned thing ring!!!!
- bpeacock22, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3One thing I would like sooner rather than later is a calendar improvement. In iCal, you can set colored schedules (for say work and home). But on the iPhone it's all black and you have to choose a default schedule to add everything to. Not handy in the least. An iChat client wouldn't be too bad either....
- beerbarron, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Agreed, calendar is a little lacking in my opinion
- Bwackv, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Article doesn't mention ANY new features at all, completely uninformative... we know there's a SDK being released.
