Apple MacBook is Amazon bestseller this holiday season

- heaintheavy, on 10/12/2007, -83/+39Buried for being misleading. Here is the actual quote from the news release: " In PCs, the top sellers were the Apple MacBook 13.3" Notebook PC in white and black and the Sony VAIO 15.4" Notebook PC."
Headline should read: Apple MacBook is AN Amazon bestseller this holiday season.- 23r17i05o42n, on 10/12/2007, -43/+36You are a nitpicking *****.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -29/+25How is he nitpicking...it says 'and the' not 'and then the'...the vaio could have sold more.
- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -21/+2No you guys heaintheavy is obviously a newly hired DIGG editor and we should all bow before him.
- naio21, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@Cymrubeats: don't you know 23r17i05o42n? Read his comments. He only posts flamebait crap.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -17/+10Buried here too... it's like the Vaio doesn't exist, yet it's mentioned in the same sentence.
It sounds like he's nitpicking, but the poster really did hijack this single sentence which gives equal merit to both machines as an Apple triumph. - damonic, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Its not misleading at all. The title specifically says that the "Macbook is Amazon bestseller..." and then "Amazon named 13 inch MacBook as a top seller in PC category this year." Not THE best seller - just that is A bestseller. I am burying you for being annoying.
- robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20@CHENEYTHEDICK, I've used Windows most of my life too and recently picked up a MacBook Pro. It's a lot more impressive than I ever thought it would be although I haven't completely decided if I want to jump ship yet (waiting to see if Vista will push me over or not.) I always had an image of Macs as toys and constantly crashing but this thing is solid, in many ways moreso than my Win boxes ever were.
- heaintheavy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14You know what the best part of me getting dugg down is? I am posting on a PowerBook G4. I've owned Apples all my life and my friends have characterized me as a "fanboy." Sheesh, I wasn't taking sides, I just thought the submitter was giving Apple a little too much love with a misleading headline.
Lighten up people... the headline is misleading. - moofer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"Headline should read: Apple MacBook is AN Amazon bestseller this holiday season."
Look a little further dorkage and you'll see Vaio isn't in the top 3... see sidebar for the top-rankings in order

Looks like the headline should be:
Apple MacBook is the total kick-ass top seller, the total kick-ass runner-up top seller, and the total kick-ass runner up to the runner up best seller. - arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@cheneythedick
It's typical for people to see it that way. People stereotype things that are out of the ordinary as outcast because it doesn't conform to the general appeal, which would SHUN anyone that thought differently-GOD FORBID!
I appreciate you in giving it a chance :) but people would think differently of a Mac because of the fact that they actually tried one (which I find is a rare instance) or they would be a "***** genius"-taking it and automatically throwing it in the trash. There's proof on this page. - arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@robdazomba
I can't wait for Vista. I want to see how much they've improved since XP and their security flaws. Microsoft certainly acknowledges the rise of the Apple empire, and without a doubt they will try to get those Switchers (PC=>Mac) back by adding features much to the typical Mac.
BUT WAIT! Mac did it too with Boot Camp. They just tried getting consumers to them earlier ;)
Note that Boot Camp has some minor flaws, too. I probably wouldn't go splitting my computer in two unless I knew a good amount about a Mac. - Niten, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I don't really know why this guy's getting dugg down; the headline *is* misleading. Kudos to Apple for being _one of the_ bestsellers, but the submission could have been clearer about that point.
(And before I get dugg down myself, I suppose I should post the necessary credentials to prove that I am officially not an Apple hater: I'm writing this on one of my three Macintoshes, while listening to my iPod...) - arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I think it's sad that we can't express our own opinions on Digg threads without getting dugg (with the exception of threads that are completely false). I've come to realize that I have to be unbiased about everything in order for me not to get dugg or have some complete idiot flame me afterwards. What the *****'s with that?
- dirtyhand, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13I think Mac has released some sort of nanobots into the water supply that makes us crave for the coolness factor of macbooks... I've never even considered purchasing anything Mac related, till this holiday season when for some reason I wanted a macbook so bad
- naio21, on 10/12/2007, -18/+11It is called "Digg effect". Your brain gets so flooded with Apple astroturfing while reading Digg that - if you have a weak mind - you end brainwashed and turned into an Apple fanboy.
- Stereophonics, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@Naio21
and Wii, Ubuntu, etc - rodzilla, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3well Apple's online marketing is insane, I wanted a macbook the first time I saw a picture of one, untill the best buy near me started selling them, man in person they are the gayest looking things, that bright is terrible, looks like a toy.

Now what was that you said about "cool"?
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8someone bought a 1gb mp3 player for $20,000 of amazon? i hope they got free shipping at least.
- outhouseinput, on 10/12/2007, -19/+15That's good for Apple, and the notebooks are awesome.
Now can we start NOT sucking Steve's *****?- stev3, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6Seconded.
- damonic, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4mmmmm, *****,
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8It's an interesting bit of news, especially for a company whose prospects 6+ years ago were pretty bleak. Why do you assume the worst about anyone who might be interested in reading about it?
- arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I think you're just mad about the recent success of the Apple market, which doesn't make any sense to me. Why with the negative comments?
- texashardrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice
- charlesnorbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I just internally dugg down the fanboy comment I was about to make.
- JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -19/+12OMG OMG OMG
The MacBook was a top seller! This matters to me so much! It's such relevant data that I need! I bought a MacBook so this makes me feel all tingly inside because lots of other people bought one![/Digg user]- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8OMG OM- shut up
- LukeEsntlPdx, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13Looks like Apple are gaining very fast momentum with the Macs now.
- Kyderdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+410% of the Laptop Market
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6What the hell is your problem, 12_CHARS? He's merely stating an observation, with which I completely agree. Apple's growth lately has been amazing. I've been seeing more and more MacBook's around town. It's nice thing to see. Competition is always a good thing.
- moofer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8Um... 12_Chars... just because you were repeatedly sodomized by your mom's boyfriend into your early 20's, doesn't give you the right to get out of your box. Now, please go back in there where you belong. We just restocked it with government cheese and plenty of porn involving small woodland creatures. Just the way you like it.
- arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@12_CHARS
...I don't really get why you made that comment. Windows fanboy? or...LINUX? pfhahah - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+312 CHARS...
Well, what can be said to that except that you are one amazing *****. People who think so highly of themselves are rarely worth knowing. For once I can appreciate the anonymity of digg as you are one very unpleasant *****. I'm sure you're all scary in person too. Braces and corrective shoes rarely make a person look good, but it seems to work for you.
- mlp101316, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think people are merely commenting on the incredible amount of progress the company has made this year especially. I was talking to a friend who works at a large volume Apple store the other day and he told me that they doubled the amount of projected iPod sales and tripled the mac-book sales. That is small scale increases but it is still evidence of a strong holiday season.
- mpatterson1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The macbook is a really nice mobile PC.With it's ability to run OSX and Windows. I like my wintel boxes but I have to admit I love my new mac.
- ZebraGang13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Not a big surprise
Apple kicks windows right in its 3.5 inch floppy dick...i meen disk- naio21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3A company kicking an operational system?!1! How weird! :-P
- ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What? You're comparing Apples to orang... err...
You know what I mean.
- MWeather, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21If only Amazon posted the sales rank for their products, we could figure out which was the best seller. Oh wait, THEY DO!
#1 Macbook

Any Questions?- vannyx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2all those computers in that ranking have the same thing in common. They look good and they are recommended everywhere you go. But i have had the pleasure of servicing these fine machines, on the hardware end not much in terms of problems but OMG windows has its share of problems but OSX is just wierd. Problems magically appear, especially with printers and usb devices and driver issues ( third party devices designed for OSX) . I have had the pleasure of being the IT guy in an all Mac Office, ive never been so busy. You get a call.
"mac user= 1 i cant print and i just lost my connection to the file server.
Tech = hmm stop and restart print services, try to reconnect to file server
mac user1= it didnt work, whats wrong with this thing, why did we have to stop using apple mail, this started happening after entourage was installed.
Tech = But entourage was installed over a year ago.
Mac user1= Well its a microsoft product so it has to be the reason my mac is acting up
Tech= Ok let me see your machine, (restarted machine, still have the problems, repair disk permissons, can connect to xserve file server but cant print to network printer still),( go to the library and delete printer drivers and reinstall printer , ok user back up and running).
One thing i dont like about OSX is that it works magically, you tell the machine to do something and it either does it , or comes back with some vague error message or no message at all.
I think both OS has their problems and its nice that Macs are selling some units, i just hate when people buy stuff on hype or bad information. Buy a computer that works best for you for your needs and your budget. Dont buy it because it matches your Ipod.
OMG i need to stop im going overboard, i wont talk about the training calls i get sitting with someone for 4 hours trying to teach them just how to press safari to go online or how to print or how to write a letter, their are some people that a computer is just difficult for them period. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Not sure why vannyx is being dugg down. His concerns sound legitimate are not filled with the typical Mac haters buzzwords. Macs aren't perfect and unless you deal with them in a networked (with Macs and WinPCs) environment, you shouldn't automatically assume he's slamming.
Vannyx, did you find a solution that you can share? - danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He is being dugg down because it is completely obvious that he has absolutely no real experience with a Mac. No decent error messages? Ever heard of a little application called console. The logs that OS X creates are far superior to anything I have ever seen on XP. I use both a Mac and a Dell day in a day out and never have any of the issues he is talking about and a primarily Windows only network. Outlook server no problem in either Mail or Entourage, I prefer Mail because Entourage is kind of annoying, you can't get rid of the freaking server synchronize window.
The problem is that many IT people approach Macs as they have always approached a PC. If it doesn't work reinstall/reboot. Debugging on a Mac is very different.

- arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1It's funny...the MacBook isn't even a PC. :P It's a Mac, for one thing, and it's a laptop, not a PC. So it's technically a false statement in both senses :)
- 3Den, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Refresh my memory. what does "PC" mean again?
- arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1@3Den
A PC is a Personal Computer. Classified as a Windows machine, in general.
A Mac is not a PC. That's what sets them apart and why people generally hate them, because they're not PCs. It makes no sense to me. I'm not an Apple fanboy, I have a Windows and a Mac. I like them both the same, however I find the Apple more secure. - NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A Mac is a PC, like the terminology or not. It's a Macintosh personal computer, just as there are Windows personal computers.
- eatrains, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A PC is a personal computer. A personal computer can be a desktop or a laptop. A desktop or laptop can run a variety of operating systems, including Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. A variety of manufacturers make a variety of people happy.
- arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0I stand corrected. I guess the only difference is the OS...which causes people to call each side "gay".
Ridiculous, isn't it?
- 3Den, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Refresh my memory. what does "PC" mean again?
- MWeather, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple was using the term Personal Computer before even IBM. I've had many PCs over the years, they ran many OSes from DOS to Mac to OS/2 to Windows. Even if you use IBM/PC compatible as the benchmark, Macs qualify as PCs. Laptops are also PCs.
- millerm277, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Here's a major issue with saying the mac is the bestseller. Of course its the best seller, there are hundreds (thousands?) of different PC's for sale on Amazon, and there are only a couple different macs.
- texashardrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Who gives a *****
- da5id, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My first thought. It is just a matter of statistics -- not fanboy-ism. Nevertheless, Mac sales are clearly trending up and I'm spec'ing out my first one. But I'll definitely run Vista on it for speech recognition tasks.
- Jakolantern, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I'm typing this from a MacBook Pro and sorry this is a non-story
the real thing is that the best selling software on Amazon's list an unreleased product
(so alot of gamers are getting nothing this holiday season) - pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6yeah i just got a MacBook.. it the best piece of equipment i have ever owned. call me what ever you want... but why not buy the best if you are going to spend money? getting anything other then apple is not a wise choice.
Unless you are a pirated xp (***** box) user like most of you M$ lovers are... then you ain't got a pot to piss in anyways.- naio21, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"call me what ever you want"
I call you an idiotic fanboy.
"but why not buy the best if you are going to spend money"
There are a gazillion best choices. All passing far, FAR away from Apple.
"getting anything other then apple is not a wise choice"
Unless you have to be productive.
"Unless you are a pirated xp (***** box) user like most of you M$ lovers are"
My XP copy is ORIGINAL, *****. Where did you make this stupid conclusion that all home copies of Windows are illegal ones? Did you shove it from your ass? - pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2naio21 Aww little boy... if you maybe if you bought a mac you would be happier... In side i feel sorry for you. The Apple Community Will always welcome you.

- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15 of top 10 and 10 of top 20 not bad.
- defylogik, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1fan boyz. still no REAL 2nd mouse button. and i'm a mac user and complaining. ever tried to play a 3d shooter with mighty mouse. you can only click one button at a time, no good if you use RM to run and LM to shoot.
- Thataboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So buy a $10 2-button mouse and be done with it. Please understand that most Mac users aren't gaming tweens who need to press mouse buttons to run and shoot.
Though, this has to do with Macbook sales how? (By the way, for new Macbook users, you can go to your Mouse system preferences to enable 2-finger right clicking -- you tap the pad with 2 fingers and it's like a right click -- extremely cool, and way more efficient than a separate, real button). - Jayeveryday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Agreed..... Apple needs to put two buttons on there mouse as well as on their laptops. But that is easily solved by picking up a 3rd party mouse such as a Logitech. In my opinion it only seems logical to get an Apple right now, you have the best of both worlds. It can run Windows flawless and provides OS X as the standard OS with Unix underpinnings. What else do you need? The only PC that I even notice are the UMPC's as those are great looking machines and possible my next purchase.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope they never put a second button on the MacBook. Use it for a while and then decide. It is much easier to have a single button and double finger click the pad or ctrl-click. No more akward thumb bending that I did on my old Dell laptop. Maybe my hands are too big. I like the mighty mouse too but I do replace it when playing 3d shooters. Not a problem.
- Thataboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So buy a $10 2-button mouse and be done with it. Please understand that most Mac users aren't gaming tweens who need to press mouse buttons to run and shoot.
