- uknowwhoibe, on 11/20/2008, -9/+68It's not that it's an iPhone.
It's more like your personal computer that you can do pretty much anything with...that you carry in your pocket. You can hate on fanboys all you want, but the phone is very cool to have/use. - TheNik, on 11/22/2008, -3/+31My friends and I, obvious stoner brainstorming at work, thought of a most excellent idea involving the iPhone... an electronic scale. I'm not sure if the phone's touchscreen can actually measure pressure, but if it can that would mean it could potentially be used to weigh... things. Think about it - enter the amount a certain thing costs per gram and save it as a preset. Then you can find the amount-per-gram and lay the things on the iPhone screen to measure the weight and calculate an exact cost. There can even be a little button for the "bro discount."
Wow, I need a break from my friends... - ZogDog, on 11/21/2008, -3/+25dugg for direct link.
- crazyraven, on 11/22/2008, -1/+20Here's how it's a 'way of life':
* Do you talk on the phone? It does that...
* Do you regularly check email? It does that...
* Do you listen to music? It does that...
* Do you browse the Web? It does that...
* Do you IM? It does that...
* Do you like to play video games? It does that...
* Do you watch movies? It does that...
* Do you watch TV? It does that...
* Do you ever need directions? It does that...
* Do you check the weather? It does that...
* Do you blog? It does that...
* Do you take pictures? It does that...
* Do you read books? It does that...
* Do you use a calendar? It does that...
* Do you use an address book? It does that...
* Do you ever use Wikipedia? It does that...
* Do you ever need remote access to files on your home computer? It does that...
* Do you ever need to post comments on digg? *I* do that! :)`` - crazyraven, on 11/22/2008, -1/+20The iPhone isn't a mind-control device.
It's not a tool for controlling the masses.
It's not a junk product that's sold just for profit with no real end-user benefit.
It's a tool that many people find useful and enjoyable - myself included.
It's a device that puts so much great stuff at my fingertips.
I don't understand the bitterness some people have about it, including some of the sarcastic commenters here.
Think about the things/products you enjoy in your life (maybe a video game console that you pour tons of money into), and realize that we dig the iPhone in the same way.
Do you get it?
Boy, that sure was nice to get that off my chest! :) - swicken, on 11/22/2008, -5/+18Yeah, but it certainly is not a way of life, it's an electronic device.
Maybe it's a way of making your life easier, but they need to stop glorifying the thing as if it's going to completely change the way you live. It doesn't. - mmijatov, on 11/21/2008, -6/+17Apple slam dunked the web browsing experience. I don't think there is any mobile device that is as adept at browsing.
- timusca, on 11/22/2008, -0/+10Do you ever need to clone a certain line of text and put it somewhere else without having to retype it? It doesn't do that...
/iPhone User - ChinchillaOfWar, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7Really? You can get an iphone for $200 with a contract, how much cheaper then a Windows Mobile device be? It seem like there is no apple tax , like there is with computers.
- thefredsociety, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7You have the iPod Touch ;)
- uknowwhoibe, on 11/22/2008, -2/+8Actually, I noticed that this bartender had an iPhone also, and that was the icebreaker. A couple of hours later, we left together. A few hours after that, I left from her house.
But, yeah, I get your point. - Karmakongen, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5Well it does change the way you live if you do so choose to take advantage of all of its features. It does this in the same way personal computers did, the internet, newspapers even, televisions, cars, and many other things whether large or small. The iPhone is pioneering what a mobile device should be; the world at your fingertips where ever you are. It changes your life in terms of allowing you to have the privilege to do so many things you previously couldn't do or had to do using various devices. Just because you have no use for it doesn't mean others don't.
- Karmakongen, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6You guys can hate, even try to claim this anti-materialistic stance that one of you seems to be doing, if the phone doesn't have any use to you, if you don't have any need at all for it, whatever, but I use my iPhone constantly and it really helps me keep things organized, it offers a great deal of entertainment, I have probably 60 apps on it and about 35 are of great use in my life, if my iPhone was destroyed I wouldn't be ruined, my life wouldn't fall into shambles, Apple isn't trying to say that, but they have developed a device that is extremely helpful to a lot of people.
- jordanwlee, on 11/21/2008, -3/+7This is a really helpful resource for the not-so-tech-savvy iPhone users.
- wakeborder, on 11/22/2008, -1/+5you can call it drug dealaz
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -0/+3Well I know it changed the way I live.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3yes grandad
- mmijatov, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3I think that Apple should put BASIC on the iPhone as well, dugg for being an old schooler!
- icurl, on 11/22/2008, -1/+4Actually genius!
- EvilCan, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3I have a feeling you just thought up a list of iPhone features instead of thinking up everyday things people do like the list implies...
- fluidfoundation, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4on of us... one of us... one of us....
- svensksvamp, on 11/22/2008, -0/+23 hours ago I used my iPhone to look for my friend's party.
Step 1. Locate yourself using the GPS.
Step 2. Choose your friend's house.
Step 3. Follow the path.
It may not be life-changing but it does make things ALOT easier. I'm heading out to buy the data plan tomorrow =) - gcnaddict, on 11/23/2008, -1/+3So long as it can't copy/paste, it's useless for typical business tasks.
- cello, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3Except the iPhone isn't pressure sensitive.
- wrathoftheafe, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3"You're and idiot."
two very solid points. - InorganicMatter, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3Why no, no I don't ever need to do that.
- uknowwhoibe, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2I use google maps all the time too, here at work. The convenience of having it available on your phone is worth the costs (that you're already paying with your current cell phone).
- jonpirtle, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3Call me crazy but I have had the iPhone since it launched and now that it was time to get a new contract, I actually dropped it. For me the amount I was paying per month was just too much considering that all I ever really did was talk and text. I went out and got myself a pretty awesome unlocked Samsung Soul and love it so far. The iPhone was great for sure, but I was ready for a change
- saegiru, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Still fails miserably at one damned important point. WHERE IS MY MMS!? Sigh.
- BrendanSheehan, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Over-sensitive non-iPhone users.
- ZogDog, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1haha yup
- dotMH, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2It doesn't take much to get diggs these days, does it?
- novenator, on 11/22/2008, -3/+42.2 firmware just released too. It has enhancements to maps and mail, incl. walking directions, google street view, public transit schedules, timetables, and fares.
- mexretroshore, on 11/23/2008, -1/+2Oooooo we've got a fighter here, boys!
- kevinmotel, on 11/22/2008, -6/+7G1 gives it a good run for its money.
/iphone user - uknowwhoibe, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1The G1 does give it a good run for its money. It's not really a 'better' experience, just different.
- brooklotzkar, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1wait... who are you calling a pre-teen?
- EvilCan, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1God, it seems like digg is getting more and more overrun by pre-teens everyday.
- Jambi, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1How so? Mind providing some details? Does the physical keyboard make the difference?
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1So you skipped the part of the 20th century where they started to sell "a way of life" and not a product?
- EvilCan, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1That makes no sense.
- Karmakongen, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Why did you buy one of the greatest smart phones, if all you wanted to do was talk and text. That was just a bad purchase and waste of money on your part. Has nothing to do with the phone.
- liquisoft, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Nearly everyone I know owns an iPhone now.
It's proven itself to be invaluable. It's one of those things that I didn't know I needed until I began using it.
I have co-workers who go to press-checks and email me photos of products as they come off the line, and ask me what to do. If I don't like the way the design is coming out, I may log into my project manager and leave some comments for a designer on my team. Sometimes I'll just chat him up on AIM. Oh, and I can do this all from my bed.
With that said, I haven't invested in the iPhone 3G. I'm still using my original 8gb iPhone. The 3G speed and GPS aren't really enough for me, yet. I'll probably upgrade when the next one comes out, presumably in 2009. - jonpirtle, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Oh when I first bought it I did use it to it's full capacity...for a while. As time when on I found myself using its features less and less. I guess I didn't clarify that too well ;) Hence me dropping it as soon as a could (stupid two year contract) Being a longtime apple user, I figured I'd give their device when it came out.
- Burtington, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Typo? really? from apple?
"Carry on iPhone and keep a world of information at your fingertips." - mmijatov, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Your acceptance into the School of Sarcasm has been rejected. We hope you'll try again next year. Good Luck!
- crazyraven, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2Ha!
You got me there! :)
Be patient - we'll be able to add it to the list soon! - bitlater, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2just about the funniest comment I've seen...
- vw2005, on 11/22/2008, -3/+4Well MY life involves practical things like cut/paste and not having my fingers cramped on a landscape keyboard.
Get off your high horse, Jobs and freakin' put these BASIC features into the phone already!! - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I think the Ipod touch does pretty much all the Iphone does. At least everything that is actually usefull
