- projomni, on 10/12/2008, -0/+24MBP is getting progressively thinner:)
- Commodus, on 10/12/2008, -2/+22Dude. It's linked FROM APPLE. If it's not theirs, it's a security breach!
- gdog05, on 10/12/2008, -2/+18Agreed. GIF images can do that with a thin san-serif font, and PDF files can too, if a font is not properly embedded. The more likely culprit, is ClearText PDF rendering at certain zoom levels, which I think this is. I do think it's legit, though, from a graphic designers perspective.
- Bloake, on 10/12/2008, -11/+27Something about the font looks fishy...
- venicerocco, on 10/12/2008, -5/+20As you get older:
1. Police officers look younger
2. New Apple products less exciting
etc. - lolupissed, on 10/12/2008, -0/+12I wanna hear the specs on the $800 macbook I'm seriously thinking about getting one (would be my first mac)
- atgmac, on 10/12/2008, -0/+12Apple has taken the pdf down (obviously). Mirror?
- Urkel, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7At what point is something "thin enough". This obsession with thinness is silly because there is a cost to it. The Air is a great computer but due to it being so thin it is restricted on which drives you can use and suffers more heat than necessary.
That's okay for a system sold as "ultra-portable" but when it comes to a MBP then I want it to be as energy and heat efficient as possible. And if that means it's .05mm thicker, or 4oz heavier then I'll take it. - gllopc, on 10/13/2008, -0/+6I agree - but you get dugg down for speaking your mind, apparently.
- arcticblue, on 10/12/2008, -3/+9"Lame" doesn't even begin to describe this "article". It's just some snippet of a service manual that has a terrible, terrible picture of the new Macbook/Macbook Pro. Is that a blanket on top of the Macbook in the graphic?
- lucasftw, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5if you ask me, this is a bigger story. and not because of the firewire port, but because they show the casings more clearly. and the macbooks will start to look nearly identical to the mbp.

I've disassembled many powerbooks & MBP's. I've removed keyboards, airport cards, RAM, HDDs, optical drives and motherboards. The screws certainly are not magnetized, they don't stick together when they're placed loose on the table.
@seventoes
A magnetized screw driver is used to attract steel screws so they'll stick to the tip and you don't lose them after you've removed them from the hole. Anybody who has any experience removing screws from anything from computers to cars knows to use a magnetized screwdriver, else you'll be sure to lose one of the little bastards deep on the bowels of your device. - smcavoy, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4for computers its usually days
- SuperKewlGirl, on 10/12/2008, -3/+7yeah it does
- gllopc, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4I can't see any reason to replace my MacBook Pro unless it's something spectacularly new - like a MacBook Pro Touch.
I have a feeling I'm going to be greatly disappointed. - liquisoft, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3I can't download the PDF (it was removed), but if you're referring to the image it's just a vector-to-raster rendering issue. It's not uncommon.
- TVarmy, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3It's not entirely clear what part is being removed, but it looks like it's not taking the whole machine apart, so I think you may be right.
While we're speculating off of a single JPEG, I'd like to hope that Apple someday makes a laptop with discrete graphics, since graphics cards seem to be improving faster than ever these days. Granted, I see it as unlikely, as my MacBook Pro already gets extremely hot, and I imagine throwing in the wrong card could create some serious heating issues. - TVarmy, on 10/12/2008, -1/+4Dude, Apple has one of the slower upgrade cycles. You have to wait 6 months for a new base configuration, on average. Compare that to a Dell, where there are many configurations that change at least monthly as newer components come out and existing components drop in price.
Plus, what's the harm in having faster machines on the market? I honestly don't get why you'd want to a wait for a long time for the next configuration of laptop to come out. When I go to the store, I want to buy the most up-to-date, fastest computer that fits in the price tag, not what was fast 6 months ago. That's why when I buy computers, I wait until the new models just came out or a price drop. - kraetos, on 10/12/2008, -3/+6If this is true, it's very good news. It means that the insides of the new notebooks are easily accessible. Given the two-piece, completely sealed case of the MacBook Air, and the rumors that new notebooks will be made of a single, carved piece of aluminum, there was doubt in my mind that the case would be openable in any way. But this points to a case that is *more* accessible - the AirPort card isn't accessible on current MacBook or MacBook Pro models. User-accessible AirPort cards, hard drives, and RAM would be a very good thing for customers and Apple itself.
- TVarmy, on 10/12/2008, -0/+3Here's hoping they keep the cooling tolerable. Parts of my MacBook Pro are hot to the touch, and it's not pleasant to keep on my lap. I know that this is the general way of this type of machine, but I'd like it to throttle down enough to stay cool while I'm just browsing. Let it get hot while I'm playing Team Fortress 2 in Boot Camp. Also, I've noticed that the video card tends to throttle because the machine isn't cool enough unless it's in a cold (say 65 degree) room.
If Apple makes it too thin without proper cooling, I see it becoming a real headache. - jwdav, on 10/12/2008, -1/+4If you're going to post comments like that, you really should consider a better, more obscure user name and profile.
Google, she doesn't forgive or forget. - placidified, on 10/12/2008, -1/+4and here we see the creature called Troll-uminous Douche-bagious
- Gee1004, on 10/13/2008, -2/+4#2 is wrong. I'm getting older and Apple looks pretty good to me right now. Planning on buying another one this Tuesday
- therernospoons, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2http://mactree.sannet.ne.jp/~kodawarisan/doc/073-1 ...
- TVarmy, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2I agree. The Pro line should have good body image, because it's what's on the inside that counts. All of Apple's hardware looks great, but they should design the stuff meant for professionals from the inside out.
- Gee1004, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2Block the damn Apple news
- blitzkriegpunk, on 10/12/2008, -1/+3Dude.... Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!
- tech1987, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2For apple its usually at the stores at the announcement.
- Gee1004, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2Days or sometimes it takes a month or more. It all depends when Steve Jobs say it's shipping. CTO take longer
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2I think it might burn my *****
- pprkut, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2It depends on the store. If its a big Apple store, they'll have the main SKUs in already, smaller ones in a few days and chain retailers...could be weeks.
- MacParrot, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1A guessing game! Cool!
OK ok
First two aaaaarrrreeee.....parts of Womensunderware own body that he is VERY familiar with!
Next two...hmmmmm. parts of a woman's body that Womensunderware has yet to touch or experience! - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Why would you consider replacing such a new laptop anyway? You should get another 3 years out of an MBP
- crazysamz, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1why not Zune and exchange...? Clearly we've been seeing amazing things come with Zune and ipod's just been, well it's been "eh".
And exchange was a PERFECT example in comparison to MobileMe, like I said, something that "works", and Mac's usually "Just work", but mobile me doesn't in comparison to Exchange, which essentially is Exchange with some snazzy features, minus the fact that it doesn't really work.
Bad examples, maybe in your opinion. In mine, they work out to be perfect.
Oh and screw the 4 Apple fanboys that dugg me down. If you read what I said, it makes perfect sense, but
OHH NOO I said something bad about Apple, steve Jobs or one of their products!!! BURY HIM!
(I can just imagine Jobs sitting in a throne pointing his finger at my comment on his Imac and the Fanboys obeying) - lucasftw, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1what about the i pro book air?
or the mac touch nano?
....... - Tr3mulant, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1What's also funny is that the article 2 spots above this one deals with corporate data loss. I guess Steve Jobs doesn't go on digg.
- Giga, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1"You should never use magnetized tools around electronics."
If the magnet isn't moving or is moving very slowly, it won't induce a current in the electronics. They aren't as sensitive as people make them out to be. If magnets killed laptops, they wouldn't be used in many of the "lid closed" sensors (example, my Toshiba Satellite M100). - ilgaz, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1How hard to understand that companies at size of Apple does not leak information especially in a stupid way like that?
It is APPLE. Do you think a guy like Steve Jobs will allow that stupid plastic case manufacturer or whatever allow those photos? They either leak on purpose (this one is fake) to heat up discussion and get early consumer feedback.
People still suspect Leopard could have come with ZFS but it got cancelled because Sun CEO leaked it on his blog before SJobs announcement. That is the Apple we deal with. - sinembarg0, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1discrete graphics means a separate chip for graphics. My MBP from a couple years ago has discrete graphics (as in not onboard). What you mean is a user replaceable graphics card, which is relatively uncommon in laptops.
- Gee1004, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1If it's not important, why did Apple delete it?
- ilgaz, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Does $3000 laptop user even touch that junk USB2 hard disk you think? Firewire 400 external drives offer USB2 too... As fallback option.
Outdated what? Firewire? Get a grip. - lrdntwnd, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1It's not part of a service manual. It's an insert that would go in the box with a new display assembly to remind the technician to move the AirPort card to the new display unit (especially important since it's a new placement for the part).
And, it's not a poor picture or anything covering the LCD, it's showing that the size of the display might be different than what they would show in the picture since the note applies to both the MacBook and MacBook Pro (which, itself, has two sizes). - lrdntwnd, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1What's being shown is an insert that would come with a part shipped to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and the picture depicts the bottom of the display clamshell. It won't be a user-installable part. That is to say, Apple won't send you the part to replace, but they will, of course, ship it to a service provider. The big change here is that the AirPort card is moving from the logic board to a position in the bottom of the display assembly. Other than that, it doesn't say much at all about the system.
- WishItWerePaul, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1fyi latest generation of mbp is multi-touch already.
- gllopc, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Because I'm an idiot and will buy anything that's shiny and new.
- energyblue, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Most of us didn't get it right away,
due to that fact that we haven't been 13 for a while now. - gllopc, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Yeah - but not multi-touch in the way we all would like.
- Gee1004, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2Microsoft fanboys....spam
