- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -4/+16lots of good stuff on the way. the future is here.
- webkami, on 09/05/2008, -0/+11About time they should apply a patent for copy/paste
/s - FutureGuy, on 09/06/2008, -1/+11Apple files endless patents: OMG lots of cool patented stuff on the way.
MS file patents: OMG those patent trolls stealing others ideas. - mmijatov, on 09/05/2008, -5/+12While I really don't want to sound too much like a fanboi I have to say that hearing about new Apple patents is always intriguing. The first poster commented that "the future is here". I really feel that Apple has done more than many other companies to usher in this future. More than just faster and more memory, Apple brings to the table things that are exciting to me as an adult and likely would've been mind blowing to me as a child if I could've seen what the future would hold.
- JohnnySoftware, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7bsod
- billbugger, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5They have their own version, i've gotten it a few times.
- MindTrigger, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4This reminds me of back when I was playing Quake 2 CTF every single day and I became addicted to the grappling hook. After playing nightly for a year or two, I would find myself, in real life, noticing places I could shoot my grapple in order to climb up for a superior firing position.
How's that for off-topic? - govsucks, on 09/06/2008, -2/+6Multi touch already has changed the way I use a computer. Everytime I'm on a non mac machine I find myself trying to scroll by dragging two fingers. The I realize I have to go to the scroll bar. Makes me feel like I'm having to use a pay phone or rotorary dial or some old tech.
- CrushThemTorg, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4Will it recognize my longing gaze for their overpriced product? I hope so.
- MarkusX, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Are there any patents they don't already own?
- santaliqueur, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3Yeah, the guy who doesn't even work for Microsoft anymore spends all his time thinking about other companies. You nailed it.
- Galaxylander, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3That's not as bad as me, I look for copy and paste when I'm writing with my hands, I look for hot corners, the dock and the menu bar on PC and I squeeze the size of the mouses at school for the Mighty Mouse's sides that I use to activate Expose.
- santaliqueur, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3I hope they read your insightful comment before they spend millions on lawyers.
- Enron, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2and gays
- twigboy, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2i dont get it
what happens to those companies that have already created and produced products which perform voice recognition and multitouch?
Nokia mobiles have voice recognition for calling people
Microsoft multi-touch table
and some other funky multitouch video thing i saw sometime last year
if Apple wanted a peice of their pie, i sure hope they give nothing but utter disrepect for a patent troll - govsucks, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2Yeah, and I play a lot of Battlefield 2 modern combat and now Bad Company. Every time I see a chopper, specifically a little bird I think "Where is my rocket launcher?"
- benjony, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1that's what I was thinking…
- ryandamartini, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Now if apple would only release a damn tablet pc already and make use of these patents.
- ferrariman60, on 09/06/2008, -3/+4So, voice recognition, something that has been around and used by many companies for all kinds of purposes for ages, is now being claimed by apple so only they can use it in conjunction with touch sensitive tech? I don't know about this one...... seems a bit overbearing. But I guess it isn't the first time Apple has gone too broad in their patents.
"7. The MT (Multitouch) data fusion system of claim 1, the processor further programmed for:associating the first touch data with a displayed object; andmodifying a characteristic of the displayed object in accordance with secondary data received from an audio sensor." - Clugenheim, on 09/05/2008, -2/+3They have a patent on fingering now?
.. oh, never mind. - jakerudy7, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1would anyone even want this? wait- i shouldn't have asked
- mrBitch, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1The "Microsoft multi-touch table" can not be patented by Microsoft, since this "multi touch table" has been selling as a product for YEARS before Microsoft claimed they invented "Surface" :
" back in 2005, TouchTable demonstrated a fully functional product with a cohesive user interface that actually is a touch table, not an assembly of cameras in a box. "
http://www.touchtable.com/site/index.php
Also, at "Maker Faire", Microsoft sales people were desperately ignoring the
homebrew guys showing off their "Surface" (a rear projection lucite table that similarly responded to finger touches from multiple users).
Did they spend six years inside of a Microsoft bunker to whip together that free demonstration?
No, they built their "Surface" in their garage from spare parts. - mrBitch, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Just like touch phones right? There WERE touch phones before Apple's iPhone -- but guess what? They ALL sucked.
Multi touch "was around" before Apple invented it?
Where? Until Apple does it, it seems all past attempts are doomed to suck.
The only thing I have seen recently which has bested Apple's design is Google's Chrome web browser.
Google's Chrome is what Apple was aiming for with their Safari web browser.
It took Google using Safari's WebKit rendering engine to show Apple how a well designed web browser should work. - mrBitch, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1I know you ended with a sarcasm tag, but just to help out those diggers that didn't understand why your comment is sarcastic :
When Apple invented the "copy & paste" concept they did not patent the idea.
With the current number of Apple patents, it looks like Apple isn't going to make that mistake again.
Who invented Copy & Paste ?
http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa043099 ...
" The Lisa was the first personal computer to use a GUI.
Other innovative features for the personal market included a drop-down menu bar, windows, multiple tasking, a hierarchal file system, the ability to copy and paste, icons, folders and a mouse.
It cost Apple $50 million to develop the Lisa and $100 million to write the software, and only 10,000 units were ever sold. "
(yes the Apple Lisa was a market failure, but if Apple had patented all of the tech they would have easily had a return on their investment by now). - Velnich, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1I wonder how this will work for people with lazy eyes.
- Niightwitch, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1Shoot your grapple on your own time, buddy.
- Niightwitch, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1"Instead of using a mouse, explained Apple, a user simply looks at any object or window to have it selected."
It sounds like we're going to be using computers just like they did in "Solaris". - alxknowland, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0Haha this is ridiculous I can't believe anyone would want this.
http://www.thewallstreetking.com - mbstrlbstr, on 09/05/2008, -3/+3Heh, the only thing I can think of its response to a person popping a painful pimple, and how the voice, finger, gaze, and facial recognition will read that.
- g90g, on 09/07/2008, -0/+0I thank you very much for this approach unique and useful
- preachermanx, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0but the Sad mac rocks!
- ptsuk, on 09/05/2008, -3/+2a patent? I got your "gesture" right here............!
- jewishmafio, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1Too bad they're gonna ***** bury it under so much of their own proprietary ***** it will never be used in anything other than a mac which will mean ***** to the rest of the normal nonmacbot world.
- cyclopssmiley, on 09/06/2008, -3/+1they can't patent that...
unless its for mobile technology or something. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -10/+3microsoft just got owned. I bet billy boy is pooping in his pants. LOL.
What is Digg?
