- rumbletumjum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Ford be damned, an Aston Martin is still an Aston Martin. They have and always will give off an aura of class that doesn't say "Hey look at me and my shortcoming" like most expensive, exotic sports cars do.
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm proud of him personally. It proves you can lead a pretty non-materialistic life even when you have the money. I'd never manage it that's for sure ;)
- iluvhatemail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the words "modest" and "aston martin" do not belong in the same sentence.
- 100101111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh maan! Can you sign HIS poster for me? :-)
- nickzee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Jonathan Ives pretty much brought the white simple design to Apple. The problem was that nobody wanted the minimalist angle until Steve came along and they simply gelled. Ives had a fascination with creating objects in his signature white, since his college days.
- plum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He drives Aston Martin DB7.

- twoseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Jonathan is said to live modestly, inhabiting a two-bedroom house near Apple's headquarters in Cupertino"
A quick search for current Cupertino 2 bedroom single-family/condos ranges from $600,000 to $1,500,000. For those not living in LA or NY, you might not know that a 2 bedroom house may not be modest. Jonathan's house very well could be "modest", but we don't have to assume that it is. - diulei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3People need to realize that everybody has different priorities. A $150,000 dollar car is a waste to some, a $1,500 iMac is a waste to some, a $1.5 million dollar home is a waste to some, $50 on a dinner is a waste to some...
As long as the people spending the money can afford it (ie, not spending your paycheck on a Gucci purse and living off oatmeal) - who cares? Different people, different opinions. Why should you think differently because of it?
Kudos to this guy for being "modest", even if he drives an Aston. It's his money, he can do whatever.
Now, if someone think that they're far _superior_ to others simply because s/he can afford an expensive toy, that's a different story. - sinisterdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it's pronounced like "I've".
i was fortunate enough to have a meeting w/ him when i worked at Apple. it was Ive, me and my manager & he was critiquing a website design i'd done. a little intimidating, but he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. - ekuryluk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So someone chooses to live in a 2-bedroom house and his priorities are askew? Maybe a larger house is more than he has time for (maintenance, upkeep, etc). Why does someone have to buy the biggest house they can get a mortgage for if they don't really need to?
BTW - I feel Aston Martin ownership is a clear statement of his style, not the size of his pecker. That reminds me, Ballmer drives a '98 Lincoln Continental. I bet it's brown :)
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/03/01/cars-of-the-billionaires/ - bertdevriese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4nice, but if i had the money for an aston martin, it would be an aston martin vanquish v12... the most beautiful car on the planet
http://images.google.be/images?q=aston%20martin%20vanquish%20v12&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi - scootinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3His car probably cost a fraction of what his house cost...
- i64X, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3DB7 is hardly top of the line for an Aston Martin.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He bought something with the money he earned! He must have a small p3nis lawlz.
.... honestly, what the hell? - harperb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That article is a bit inaccurate - his "personal site" is run by a fan of his who apparently has zero relation to Ive whatsoever.
- starseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well Dugg, quality Brit.
- plasticated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone got a link to a photo of the model he owns?
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone know how to pronounce his last name? Is it like... " I've " or " Ivy " ? Can't seem to find out in google.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His name is Jonathan Ive. Not Ives...
http://www.jonathanive.com/ - gr8one, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Ives is a genius
- nobogeys217, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want the new James Bond Aston Martin. That car looks AWESOME
- naldwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ 100101111
What part of 'Aston Martin' didn't you read? - RevMark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone seen the new four door AM?
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would be exactly the same way if I had lots of money. I don't need a sprawling mansion but rather I would just have something modest... however, cars would definately be a vice of my considering I just love them and consider nice cars more as being works of mobile art than anything else...
But my daily driver would probably be a 2007 corvette followed by some nice classics / exotics for weekend fun - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Think about what would happen if an atomic bomb dropped in his city or there was a tornado or something...he could speed off in his nice car, not feeling bad about leaving his crappy house behind.
I think that's better than trying to escape in some crappy car, leaving a beautiful home behind to be destroyed. - JimNoble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't know, those Chingford-ites always claiming they live in Essex when they know fully well it's in London... :-)

Jim - subtle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Ive this" ... "Ive that" ...
I find it very pretentious that this is written in the first person.
I'm KIDDING, okay. Ive taking the piss. - 100101111, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe, he just use only what he need?
- fozi999, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Dugg for mentioning Northumbria University.
- kelake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Nice choice in car I guess but what's up with the guy running the jonathan ive.com site? He makes the site look like it was ive's own. Sleazy.
- Benjamin2040, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Kinda depends on how much you like driving, with how much you like sitting around watching TV... A guy I know sold his house to buy a Ferrari - does he give a damn? Hell no, he has a Ferrari!
Just for the record I wouldn't have got an Aston though, probably a Ferrari F430 and an M5 =) - kidhero, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1i see his car, yes, his car, at work every now and then and once at a local movie theater.
- PradaPete, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0yeah whatever, he should come up with some new ideas quickly because he can't survive on the iPod idea all his life, especially if he is in need of expensive penis-substitutes so badly.
poor guy!!
but...whatever - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Who diggs this worthless crap?
Who cares?
Hey Digg, let us know when Suri takes her next bowel movement, ok? - WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3@Benjamin2040
Ferrari's are for fags. You and your friend are gay lovers.
M5's are underpowered... might as well get a gay Camery to go with your gayness... - nauzilus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Oh whoopedy-*****-do. Must have been a slow news day. I kept waiting for something to be interesting in the article... but no...
Seriously, what in that was NEWS worthy? - Virgule, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0So he designed iPod? hell no. My name is not "Jonathan" and I dont live in Cuppertino (yet?) and I drive much less than a DB7.
Jonathan might have done some work on the iPod (white look) but the general design is not from him. Its my baby. My catch..
Someone at Apple is lying to you all as for how iPod came up and someone else near them is an imposter. - Benjamin2040, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2"They have and always will give off an aura of class that doesn't say "Hey look at me and my shortcoming" like most expensive, exotic sports cars do."
No, but you can still here them coming from two miles away ;) - ipodgr, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2This guy is fairly called a designer :D
- PradaPete, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0choosing a very expensive car over a very expensive house is soooo pre 9-11
- WiseAcre, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Description says it all.
- PradaPete, on 10/12/2007, -16/+0I don't know what's with some people's priorities...he should really spend more on a decent house than a super car. Maybe he has a small penis.
- HoosbinPharteen, on 10/12/2007, -25/+4The description says he has bad taste in cars. Anyone who has sat in Aston Martin's more recent lineup of cars knows that Ford has completely ruined the interiors. I think he should take a look at Spyker instead.
