- beerbarron, on 02/04/2008, -0/+5The SDK will be Apples saviour, I hope... especially if the app's turn out great, because to be honest windows mobile apps suck...
- dmcbride6, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2This isnt going to happen. iPhone will never be free. Possibly subsidized but still at a cost. Quite frankly, Considering I had to start a 2-year contract, I feel they should have been subsidized from the start.
While clones (or "competitors") will start to appear, they wont be much of an issue. LG Voyager is a good example. I dont see people flocking to verizon for the chance to use one of these - possibly because of the (lack of) design and brand name. - troydoogle7, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2the problem is that apple created their own worst enemy when they created the iphone. Eventually when the iphone is free or subsidized by the carrier (eg when nokia and blackberry bring out their iphone knockoffs around july) then suddenly apples Ipod business is going to disappear rapidly along with their share price. Who will pay for an ipod when you get one free with your phone contract?) Apple needs to pull a cat out of the bag very soon, as their ipod/itunes model is going to be disappearing very quickly.
- Scotchman, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Totally agree - the more carriers iPhone is available on in all markets, the better off both the consumer and Apple will be. Carriers without competition is never good for anyone. It would be able to walk into any of the major carriers and be able to choose an iPhone.
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -1/+1Apple must be the only company in the world that gets kicked when they're down and when they're standing. Jesus Christ, they've sold 4 million iPhones, all at a profit and yet, we have another article declaring, "Open this iPhone up, Apple, before it's too late!"
