- gavroche, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22"Apple plans to embed sensors that can determine where your hands are and what they're doing"
uh oh - KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Well I guess the idea is that all of the stories are submitted, but only the good ones make it to the front page.
- psygnisfive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12You realize that Microsoft's Surface is itself a copy of many ideas from like 20 years ago, right? Right? I mean, surely you weren't just talking out of your ass about something you don't know about. Right? You can't be that stupid.
- 4ndr3w, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Surface is designed to large tables (and for now, hotels and retail stores). How is it fair to compare it to a consumer (small) notebook?
- 4ndr3w, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Did Gizmodo not hear Steve say himself Multi-touch did _not_ make sense for Mac right now? That it was better to say it was a "research project"?
- drenader, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15Perhaps I am not representing everyone else, but I find it annoying that ever gizmodo and consumerist article gets put on Digg. If I wanted to consistently read their articles, I would go to their site. It would be different if only the good articles were posted, but the current trend is to submit every single post.
- psygnisfive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Apple has absolutely NO ability to draw hands and fingers. I've noticed this in all their patent applications. It's weird.
- vsaint, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Call me when porn is multitouch.
- aaeyers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6you can has many grammars!!
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Uhhh the keyboard is still perfectly in tact, it's just that the trackpad has been widened and updated for multi touch...
- LordVoldemort, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Surface uses cameras.
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If it was a copy of surface it wouldn't be portable, and it would cost $10,000.
- Audacitor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They're not getting rid of it? Did you even look at the giant picture just above the article?
- RapeApe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Cause companies just don't patent ideas they never intend to use.
- JC4P, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5How would it be ***** if the Microsoft surface is a table designed to destroy you with back pain and this is in laptop form?
- crackedplastic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Old news from over a year ago: http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/apple_files_new_patent_for_wide_touchpad_for_notebooks/
That Gizmodo link isn't even the source of the "new" article either. - sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Jobs also said they are not thinking about entering the phone market themselves while having an interview after a Mac refresh. Few months later, iPhone was announced.
- drenader, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I did bury it, in addition to ranting about it. 2 birds one pebble.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And then there's tablets. With my screen folded over the only keyboard I have is onscreen. I can't really see a situation where I could comfortably multitouch it though unless it were lying on a flat surface and not being carried, but if it's on a flat surface then it wouldn't be in tablet mode....
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm not agreeing with you, nor am I disagreeing with you - But, if you would have taken the time to bury this story (and any other story you feel is lame) instead of writing the comment you posted, you would have better voiced your opinion. If enough people do this, it won't make it to the front page.
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If Surface is designed for retailers, how come 50% of that promo vid is of people using it privately in their own homes?
- Saiyanz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1damn it people beat me.... o wells multi touch fun ahoy
- paulzy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1BREAKING NEWS: Apple invents a serum that removes all oil from your hands to prevent smudging. Pleasing taste, some monsterism.
- ha1f, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1good thing my x61 doesnt have multitouch... o wait. it does.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So um how is it different then lets say MS technology or the HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC.
I think the only thing Apple can patent is "pinching" that's about it.
Again the is an "application" for a patent. Many times things are "patent pending" but never go through. - painted82, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5I usually like Apple stuff, but is this really necessary when there's a keyboard right above the touchpad so you can simply press keys for commands?
- Audacitor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ya, MacBooks already have multitouch. You can scroll vertically or horizontally in any window the cursor is over by using to fingers.
- waipankar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1nice
- ikickass, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the keyboard is the same, plastic buttons as before. the trackpad is wider. that is all
- ddmsel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The future should be OLED keys similar to the Optimus Keyboard not some crappy touch pad keyboard with no tactile response.
- wpong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1stop pasting the whole article as a description, it's annoying and by the time i'm done reading at the cutoff point i don't want to click the link and actually read the story anymore
- zephc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Blame the patent lawyers.
- nxtwrld, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1so should I delete the simple perl script controlling multitouch on my FS P1510??
- nxtwrld, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1so should I delete the simple perl script controlling multitouch on my FS P1510??
- drafhk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1except, since it's apple, they'll rape you for even more.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2you forgot the /sarcasm
- ikickass, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1thanks for that insightful comment
- coooldude987, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0There was an article abt this here: http://surfacerama.com/2007/07/12/apple-pushing-for-multi-touch-trademark/ long ago...
- nekt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Wouldnt wanna go 2 hours without a crapple ad on the front of digg though would we.
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Steve meant the iMac, and you should never listen to what he talks about because he constantly lies about this kind of stuff, only yo turn around the following year or earlier with the exact product he said Apple would never do.
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Apple: you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0How about you just delete your duplicate comment!
Ok, I'm just being a wise ass, sorry. Heh. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Oh yes they do.
Its called being a patent squatter.
If anyone else develops something similar, they can copy them directly because they didnt want to do the development, then turn around and sue them for patent infringement. - mlightner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hopefully "keyboard stimulation" won't disable your ability to fondle the MultiTouch pad. That alone could alienate 95% of Apple's customers.
- AlphaPrime, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1This is like that laser bluetooth keyboard, isn't it? Something like this would honestly drive me nuts.
- FoxOrian, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Eh, this doesn't mean at all that it's going to come into true being. It could just be conceptual.
Sidenote, I always love those blandly generic drawings from the patent offices. - waipankar, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0its true
- sniperboy67, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3as long as its not windows
- waipankar, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1it is good.
- zdiggler, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1OK this is lame. Who cares, no big deal, what you gonna do with multi touch laptop. the guy who scared of buttons add more buttons to new keyboard, did he went out and patent those buttons too?
