Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I see this as nothing more than a pacifier to developers disgruntled at the app approval process. With more and more Android phones hitting the market, there's a legit alternative for apps if Apple wants to continue with their vague approval process.
I have an iPhone 3G. I've also played with the Droid today (and yesterday). While I still like the iPhone's UI, the Droid is FAST! I have my phone hooked up to my network at work and the Droid was still loading web pages on average twice as fast, sometimes even faster. That might be due to the faster chip. But damn, Verizon is fast.
Bottom line, Apple is going to have to step their game up. And as an AT&T user for 15 years, Verizon really should consider having a little test at all of their stores. I think AT&T users would be shocked at the speed difference. - jordandev, on 11/12/2009, -2/+8Good... but this isn't going to fix any of the problems with apps being turned down for vague reasons or anything other than not knowing what the current state your app is at in the review process.
- thesledman, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3You're comparing the speed of your 2 year old iPhone 3G to the 2 day old Droid. The iPhone 3GS is very fast and meets and beats the Droid on many speed tests.
- qhan7, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2Meh
- diggbigwig, on 11/12/2009, -3/+5Is transparency really the problem? I thought the problem was Big 'Apple' Brother censorship.
Don't get me wrong, it's cute how you fanboys always see the silver lining. - kevinmoore, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1If there's a single chestnut in the world that still applies it's that Java is slow. I deal with slow Java all day every day. You could say I've even made a career out of it.
Java has come a very long way in resolving its speed issues over the years, but it's still slow. - jordandev, on 11/12/2009, -3/+4Won't using Java have an adverse effect on application performance compared to the native code on the iPhone? There's a reason that there are not very many games released developed in Java...
- Sherman901, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I've heard the opposite in reviews about the browser speed of DROID vs. iPhone. I have an iPhone and recently I've reeeeeaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy wanted to get an Android phone just because of the openness of it and the notification system and I just like modding stuff. I jailbroke my iPhone and I can't stop messing around with it, which has resulted in having to restore and re-jailbreak a couple of times but I can't help it.
Apple had better start paying attention because once Google finally gets Android organized then it's going to give the iPhone a run for its money. - jeffsters, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1Just wait till the Droid kills the iPhone and all the millions of iPhone users move to Verizon's network. Then let's talk!
- jordandev, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2Apple having horrible policies for reviewing applications doesn't make the iPhone as a device "a piece of *****". If you really think your Android phone is so wonderful that the iPhone is so horrible compared to it what are you reasons?
- jeffsters, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1Don't feed the trolls! The iPhone is far from perfect but anyone that says it's a POS has serious penis envy and isn't worth the time. Fact is there would be no Droid without the iPhone and frankly, after two years, I think we should fear the Droid! If this is all Motorola and Google can come up with to advance the smartphone market after two years of physically having an iPhone to study and learn from, gawd help us in the future!
- jeffsters, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1Just as cute how all of you always see dark clouds! "iMac - too cute sell", "iPod - too expensive to sell", "iPhone - all style and too expensive", need I go on?
- TheUngod, on 11/12/2009, -2/+2If that's transparency, my UPS tracking number must be too.
- gerryk, on 11/12/2009, -2/+2That old chestnut of Java being slow no longer really applies. Sure, there might be a small performance hit, but that's a fair trade for all the development advantages Java has over ObjC.
- loopie007, on 11/12/2009, -0/+0Actually the same problem will always exist.
Save the single programmer development time and cause the users slowness as long as the app exists.
OR..
Developer spends more time and multiple users have much faster app as long as the app exists.
I personally vote for all the users having a faster app.
Can you imagine if "MS-Windows" was written in Java. Faster development, but all the millions of users
would be spending lots of hours waiting.
Java is a good idea for developers, but a failure for users. Guess who pays the bills? - Mast3rSush1, on 11/13/2009, -0/+0So... does anyone know if the Google Voice app shows 'pending' or 'rejected' in this new status tracker? The FCC would like to know.
- volcompimp, on 11/12/2009, -5/+3This is a joke. I'm glad I switched to Android. It's only been a few weeks & I turned on
my iphone last night & realized even more so how much of a piece of ***** the device is.
I can't find one reason why I'd want to switch back.
