- gimmeslack12, on 10/18/2007, -0/+58There was never any reason to believe that iLife '08 was included with Leopard. iLife has never been included with an OS X release. I don't understand why so many people are confused on this.
- ElbridgeGerry, on 10/20/2007, -4/+41No Star Wars hologram effect?
...
GOD DAMN THEM ALL! - kingyubba, on 10/18/2007, -5/+30i want to know what the "super secret" features are they were trying to hide from Microsoft.... i checked the list of the 300+ and didn't see anything groundbreaking.
- graviplana, on 10/18/2007, -1/+23No Star Wars R2D2 Hologram Effect in iChat?! Dealbreaker!!! :P
- kinseyincanada, on 10/17/2007, -0/+19iLife comes with a new computer not a new operating system.
- speedyrev, on 10/18/2007, -0/+18It will work, but not legally. To be legal you could buy the family pack.
- kick, on 10/18/2007, -0/+15Apple doesn't require a serial # or "activation", so yes, you could do that.
- kevinwiz, on 10/18/2007, -0/+14You already know that.
- milkmage, on 10/17/2007, -1/+14i don't think ilife has ever come standard with the OS. you might be getting confused with ilife being on certain (iMac) restore disks, where the CPU shipped with ilife bundled - therefore it was included on the restore disks.
- stalefries, on 10/18/2007, -0/+12Depends on when you bought it. I think the starting date is Oct. 1st (don't quote me on that) and all you have to do is ask for it and pay $10 for shipping or whatever.
- Angostura, on 10/17/2007, -0/+12Because although it will work, your license does not allow it.
- yabos, on 10/17/2007, -0/+12Because some people are honest and buy the correct license.
- NSXROX, on 10/17/2007, -1/+12What a stupid interview.
- yikiad, on 10/18/2007, -0/+10do you live under a rock??
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -4/+13"Apple: No. If you buy a new CPU with Leopard, you get the new verison of iLife."
You'd think the Senior Director of OS X Product Marketing would know proper terminology. Either that, or Leopard/CPU bundles with free iLife! Also, a typo! - lordtyros, on 10/18/2007, -2/+11IT rule of thumb #145:
Marketing jackasses don't know ***** about ***** - sjmulder, on 10/18/2007, -2/+10Stacks. And the new desktop interface I guess.
- forgiste, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8Where do you get off saying that nobody uses iChat? From a developer standpoint quite a lot has changed. From an end user standpoint most of the changes will become apparent the more you use the OS. Apple is so modest and they don't give it all up on the first date.
- Burn, on 10/18/2007, -1/+8Isn't the first disk the OS install disk, and the second disk the apps (Including iLife)?
- Gm7Cadd9, on 10/26/2007, -1/+7I have been previewing leopard since WWDC 06, and played with most of the builds up through 9A559. Everything has advanced by leaps and bounds. I remember when everyone was so eager to torrent the WWDC preview... trust me, you weren't missing much.
Of all the things that now work flawlessly the photobooth iChat backdrops haven't advanced at all. Despite being a "toy" I think many people will be disappointed with the "easy to use" backdrops... a lot of people aren't familiar with keying and how mattes work, unless the lighting in your room is perfect, you have a background that is a solid color, and your computer and background aren't in constant motion you won't have a great photobooth/iChat backdrop experience... it's a shame too, I really liked the hologram one from the demo...
Of note, also missing from previous builds are the Security screensaver and Retro screensaver. However, if you install the developer tools and Xcode you will find them as examples in quartz composer. - RiverBelow, on 10/18/2007, -5/+11If I buy the single user pack, but I want to install it on two of my Macs, will that work? Or will I have to shell out another $70 for multiple installs? I don't really like that.
- schoate09, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6Go in the CD Directory and install the iLife packages. Not hard...
- Vanadium, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6So I have the new aluminum iMac which came with iLife '08. When I upgrade to Leopard will I be able to install iLife '08 still? The install disk that came with my Mac is a restore disk which installs both iLife and Tiger.
I'd really like to do a clean install of Leopard when it comes out, and then install iLife '08 on top. Will that work? - Peavey, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6The date is Oct. 1. Try this URL:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ - obey43, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6a lot has changed.
- scoobycarolan, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5Never has come. It's always been a separate package. iLife always works across 10.X upgrades
- Angostura, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5Pacifist
- manitoba98xp, on 10/18/2007, -0/+5Just about everyone using the beta that I've heard of/from would disagree with you.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/18/2007, -2/+7This is Digg, the "(bittorrent)" was unnecessary. But honestly, you should pay for quality software. That applies to all companies, including both Apple and Microsoft. If you can't afford it, live without it. It's quite simple, really.
- Ireland, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6The confusion has arisen from the fact that both come in all new Mac's. Sometimes if you want to get the new version of iLife and OS X, actually getting a new Mac can be the best choice.
- Me1000, on 10/17/2007, -3/+7Should I trust Gizmodo?
I dont think so... - tubeblender, on 10/17/2007, -0/+4i
buried
u - kingyubba, on 10/17/2007, -0/+4here's a question for them.... wasn't it supposed to have a resolution independent UI?
- Ireland, on 10/18/2007, -0/+4Steve's a marketing poker player, you need to play more. 'marketing poker player' is slang for '*****'. Leopard still rocks though. All the changes are pretty much incremental, but there are so many of them it's worth the price of admission alone.
- wstrucke, on 10/18/2007, -0/+499
can't you search!??!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors - MtheoryX, on 10/18/2007, -1/+5I've been using the developer previews (client AND server) since WWDC 07, and I can tell you, without a doubt, that you are an idiot.
Do a little more homework before you make moronic comments like that; you can't erase them from your profile. - scoobycarolan, on 10/17/2007, -0/+4It should work. The Mac OS has never required a serial number
- Kelmon, on 10/18/2007, -0/+3Why wouldn't I use iChat? It covers all the networks that I need both at home and at work.
Anyway, I'm also of the opinion that you have no idea what you are talking about either. True, it's not a revolutionary OS but then we weren't expecting that either and almost all the new features will be useful to me. I don't think that makes me a moronic fanboy. - lukee, on 10/18/2007, -0/+3macam is (for the most part) obsolete in Leopard (and Tiger as of 10.4.10); generic USB Video Class drivers have been included, and pretty much any webcam will work.
- nfxmedia, on 10/18/2007, -1/+4You had me up until "Apple is so modest ..."
- tubeblender, on 10/18/2007, -1/+4Let me take a wild *stab* or three at your reason for naming yourself over90000.
1. you have jacked off to your own mother's picture 90000 times
2. your sister's
3. etc. etc.
If you used a Mac, then you could have been more creative with less words. Typical Wind-blows user, thinks quantity makes up for the lack of quality. - epohs, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3It's not an unsubstantiated rumor, it has been documented and confirmed by Apple.
http://developer.apple.com/leopard/overview/
(Scroll about 2/3rds down that page)
It just didn't make the list of 300 new features for some reason.
// Although, saying that, the footnote on the page above indicates that things may change... maybe resolution independence didn't make the cut? - smrekar, on 10/17/2007, -1/+4sure, there is a package extractor for Mac OS X. Cant think of the name of it now.
Should also be able to "Install Additional Software" Like you would do Dev Kits. - atbnet, on 10/18/2007, -1/+4lol just blatant flaming but that was very creative.
- HornyGoat, on 10/17/2007, -1/+4ahh ***** wrong post, this reply was @Vanadium
- gemmakicn, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2I think if you have 5 computers, a little less than twice the cost for 5 licenses is a good deal... if you have more macs, well thats just greedy. But a family/house could upgrade on the cheap, which is a really nice idea.
- Peavey, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Alternatively, you can do an, "Archive and Install," which creates an extra folder in the root directory of the hard drive called something like, "Old System Folders," and installs Leopard in the System folder. All of the system files will be moved and replaced, but all of your applications will not be touched.
- blackjack75, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2The foundations were already in Tiger. you can already try it with the developer tools. However you'll see most third party apps and some apple apps behave incorrectly when scaled up/down.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2yeah I found that question stupid also. That's like asking if Windows Vista will come with Halo 3.
- neenach2002, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Also, it seems about twice as fast as Tiger was at doing standard things...so amazing.....(keep in mind, I am on a Mac Pro 2.6 with 5 gigs of ram.) I noticed some lag/sluggishness in Tiger. None in Leopard. NONE!
