- meartotnha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Wouldn't that be a video podcast? That the appleTV does support...
- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13This is cool, but the real value would be for RSS Video Feeds.
- aquax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hello centered text.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@meartotnha
The AppleTV can sync video podcasts with a computer that has already downloaded them, but not download them itself, which seems peculiar.
What I would like to see, but is not likely to happen, is the ability for the AppleTV to download iTS content, podcasts, etc. directly from the 'Net, and then itself be your media hub, even capable of syncing with your iPod (via it's USB port). - etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What I think is funny about most everyone's comments is they want Apple TV to be MS Media Center. It isn't. It isn't a media server. It wasn't designed to be one. It syncs to a server (iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, etc.) and streams from other sources. Personally that is how I like my media as well. I don't keep all my movies sitting by my TV. Most are in the closet. Once I get an Apple TV all of them can be ripped and streamed/synced to the Apple TV. This is why it only has a 40 gig HD. I like Apple TV because it does what it was designed to do and it does it VERY well.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7The ATV is starting to look like a really good platform. RSS, Sports Scores, Podcasts, Music, Video (including xvid/divx/etc) Good stuff.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Don't like it? Don't read it!! (Or comment on it)
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5AppleTV isn't designed to be a stand alone device, its purely supposed to be a relay from your computer's iTunes library and that's it. So no, its not that surprising that AppleTV only supports podcast that are downloaded on your computer, as that is all its designed to do.
- kris33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The developer of this plugin are developing a RSS video-feed plugin now.
- clesch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3sweet! now if we could get rss-bittorrent integration too, this little machine would be near perfect for me.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sure that's a good platform too. If it could do high bitrate h264's or .TS files I would stick with my Xbox but unfortunately it's just not fast enough.
- bimmerboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is real cool plugin.
But how about hacking iTunes and putting an RSS reader in there and have the AppleTV sync the RSS feeds from iTunes instead of installing a plugin on the AppleTV? - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Thank the gods for the Block User feature.
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't blame people for having fun with a new MacOS X based toy though, can ya? You realize that hackers have put Linux on an iPod, right? Not sure if criticism of such activity quite works. Half the time, its not for any other reason than to prove it can be done. Other times, like with XBMC, extending a platform eventually yields highly desireable results. Who knows?
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, it does support the 720p HD standard if that is what you're looking for. The reason it doesn't support 1080p/i is probably because it would be impossible to stream such gigantic files over Wifi, and I dunno if it actually got the processor power to play such movies at all.
- PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd buy an Apple TV in a second if I actually had an HDTV. I think this is what's going to get me to finally take the plunge into the HDTV world.
- BenBenMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It looks like a nice plugin, it appears to integrate well with the UI. But it'll take a a lot more modding to get me to switch from my Xbox Media Center.
- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I know that the AppleTV supports VideoPodacasts (you missed the point)
The featured article that we're discussing walks the user through reading *Text Feeds*, something I don't really want to do on my TV
...also an admittedly "less cool" application for RSS than watching Video/ Podcasts on it, right? - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@spinchange
One step at a time though, right? As the article notes, they're already working on getting the video RSS feed going, so you can stream directly from the net. Presumably, YouTube support might be the next logical step. This is all where I assume Apple is planning to go as well, although I assume Apple has a "bible" of yeas and nays on where they wish to officially position the AppleTV in terms of features. God bless these guys. It's pretty much a tightrope out there insofar as what might break when Apple does a system update. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah I don't get it either. MCE is fine for what it is but personally I am trying to move away from expensive cable/satellite service. I would personally get something like a TiVo Series 3 and/or a SlingBox over an MCE box. The Apple TV is a totally different platform.
- zephris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You're right. Thank god for the block feature you arrogant ass. One comment and you block me? Can't wait to see you when you grow up. Oh wait, that won't happen since I just blocked you.
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Take a look at the AppleTV product page, it already supports video podcasts. You manage all the subscriptions in iTunes, and it all happens seemlessly. I should know, I actually own one and am using it.
- lintmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1And goodbye embedded images.
- celticwarrior88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Cool - I like!
Mind you the unit itself is still a little pricey in UK, but when it comes down in price and there is functionality like this then I'd certainly be buying one - wilhoitm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The Apple TV is sort of designed to be a stand alone device. It can play/display anything already synced to it, without you needing to turn on your computer. The Apple TV is never designed to be turned off so new media gets synced in the background.
- LanceHardenburg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Or I could save tons of money and just use my xbox that I softmodded for free to play movies and videos of any format I wish, music, xbox games, nintendo games, playstation games, gameboy games, n64 games, Browse the internet, check the weather, and do anything that the almighty Apple TV can do and more.
- s6t9eve, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2How know why this article annoys me? only about 25% of the hundreds of people that have Dugg and will Digg this own apple TVs.
- zephris, on 10/12/2007, -26/+3Alright already. We've heard of Apple TV. We know about it, stop plastering it everywhere.

What is Digg?
