So how much is 1 mill x 1.99 - dombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would love to see more video content on iTunes. Maybe we will get movies one day and I can sit on my a$$ at home and download my favorite movies from my couch. :-)
digg+ - Eaglet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Glad to see some actual numbers on this. Go Apple!
Lord knows once I get my Mac Mini (only a few short weeks away!) I'll be buying more videos. As it is, my PIII 500Mhz can't handle the h dot encoded files. - chicagospur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It will be interesting to see who else Apple sign up, especially if there are no commercials in the TV show content.
He has Disney by the balls because of the Pixar distribution stuff looming, hence ABC are on board, but CBS, NBC, Fox, WB (should I say AOL Time Warner,) will be tougher to crack. - rileyjt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Considering the limited content they have available right now, that is pretty impressive. Imagine what will happen when they get a full library out there.
- cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It would be cool if shows like firefly could get a second chance with a subscription-based profit model through iTunes. Seriously, Apple's phones must be ringing off the hook from independent TV programming developers right now.
- Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This number doesn't mean anything to me, the real key will be if the numbers can remain that high. How many people don't know how to convert their own video to ipod format, and just wanted to see what a video looked like on their new ipod (and will probably never buy again)? I factor that in, as well as all the reviewers who downloaded stuff to use for their review of the new ipod.
- sinfony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One million sales of a two dollar piece of media isn't that impressive. Any top-selling CD would do better numbers than that, and that's for eight times the price in a nearly obsolete medium.
- Southernlad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well living in the UK all we have is music vids which you can get legally and for free on internet! I would be interested in tv shows might make me upgrade ipod. USA must make up 90% of these downloads. Maybe when the BBC offers free donloads will take off big time in UK
- JCPicache, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sinfony, i think that's an unfair analogy, since the CD market is much more mature than the video-download market that apple is testing.
- nolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it makes economical sense for all party's involved for "arrested development and "24" to be in the next batch of shows made available on itunes. I won't go into specifics, those who follow the economics of television know what I am talking about
- diggscreenname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it actually says that they sold 1 million videos, not 1 million dollars worth of videos

Lol, however the content they are selling isn't from a "top-selling" CD so that comparison doesn't make any sense. Its (2?) TV re-runs, a few music videos and some short films released in a format that has only been live for 20 days. Wait until they have an established base of users and release some real content.
IMO, other TV studios would have to be stupid not to release their TV reruns if they can make additional money off of them. Especially for older shows that are in syndication or are not popular enough to release on DVD. - SirThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome. digg+
- Rolandami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder how many they sold of Jessica Simpson video?
- hfswagon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Don't forget ESPN and all their channels as well. - mikataur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> Even at MTV.com you can watch videos.
Yes, but using Windows Media plugin (streaming) which has very restrictive DRM, doesn't let you save to disc or put on a portable player, and is not watchable on anything other than a Windows machine. Apart from that... - jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Buying 320x240 TV shows is insane. Maybe if they were HDTV I would buy them to save me the slow torrent download every week.
- mikataur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> "I wouldnt mind using itunes but it wants to convert all my music to mp4s or whatever it is"
Are you sure you've used it? iTunes doesn't convert anything unless you ask to it. For ripping CDs to MP3 instead of AAC (which anyway actually provides better quality at the same given bit rate), do this:
Preferences > Advanced > Importing > Import using: (popup) MP3 Encoder.
Or you can just use LAME like the clever kids do and use iTunes to manage the collection.
It's surprising people *still* needed to be told of the value of iTunes. It's miles ahead of anything else for managing large collections of music. - frig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nugget,
Itunes plays all the standard audio formats; mp3, aiff, wav, etc.. You don't have to convert your music unless it's encoded in something like wmv or that lame sony codec. - nugget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldnt mind using itunes but it wants to convert all my music to mp4s or whatever it is. I had it lock up on me already once because of that and I just got annoyed that even with nothing else going but firefox itunes still locked up. Plus I like my music to not be tampered with, I like just how it is.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0most of those music videos are good too.
no.1 being Thriller. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ESPN - Sports - Sports highlights podcast -
ESPN Classic - Greatest Sports moments ever.
ESPN - "Pregame on your iPod!" - download sports highlighs from both teams, exclusive interviews, only 5$ a week - get it now, ONLY on your iPod!!
Anyone else see a whole world of ideas? - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'll stick with my fansubs piped over to my TV. I don't really want to watch TV episodes or movies on a uber-tiny LCD screen.
- TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Buying 320x240 TV shows is insane. Maybe if they were HDTV I would buy them to save me the slow torrent download every week."
Exactly. I would gladly pay $2 a week to download a high quality 16:9 version of Lost and watch it with no commercials. I won't pay that to download a low res 4:3 version. If they increase the quality of the shows it would really pic up. Most of these downloads were new people trying it out to see how good it was. Lets wait and see how consistent it stays. - CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A Million "PAID" downloaded Videos is still impressive for not having a broad choice of titles and for not being Super High Quality files. Apple is doing it right by dipping their toes into these uncharted waters instead of diving in head first where it could easily have been a disaster...
- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool we can buy completely free videos that are free at places like MTV!
- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even at MTV.com you can watch videos. The shows are free on television. I just don't understand consumers... Although 1 million really doesn't seem like that much to me.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my idea for a cheap quick clip are "how to" clips.
for 99cents...how to install a faucet..how to make whatever pie...etc.
small, cheap, quick, less than 5 minutes clips that is more useful in a portable device than a computer..unless you have a computer in your kitchen or backyard or camp ground...
they don't need to be high quality, just need them when i need them. - LNahid2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should be able to get ESPN since it is part of the Disney/ABC conglomerate.
I wouldn't buy them though since they are at a lower resolution than sdtv. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1 djoek your headline title sucks, I'm digging CLIFFosakaJAPAN's.
first is not better! - DEIx15x8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is truly amazing, i guess allot of people out there are tech illiterate because digg users know how to get all those music videos and more at a higher quality off of Yahoo! Launchcast and the TV Shows are just to low of a quality since they have to be made to meat the low standards of the iPod.
- joeyjojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm digging just to spite djoek's whining.
