- smurfz, on 06/24/2009, -4/+181Would be a nice graph if it didn't go to the Yahoo home page.
- yocouchdigga, on 06/25/2009, -11/+127Or you can look at it like this: The PalmOS was supporting apps 10 ***** years ago.
- bigplrbear, on 06/25/2009, -19/+117At least Palm's app stores aren't filled with over 9000 variations of iFart
- Snokage, on 06/25/2009, -20/+117PalmOS is dead...they switched to webOS. this graph is apple fanboy crap. BURIED
- meridian, on 06/24/2009, -4/+88http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3362/3655652411_075 ...
Thankfully the new Pre uses WebOS - inactive, on 06/25/2009, -0/+72Uh... it's making people log in. Buried.
- kamikaze134, on 06/25/2009, -0/+26We've been Yahoo-rolled.
- Eisen4, on 06/25/2009, -7/+31webOS not PalmOS. Buried.
- timusca, on 06/24/2009, -0/+20Kind of like the comments on Digg!
- superkendall, on 06/24/2009, -3/+19So were Palm apps.
I know, I wrote one. (well, it wasn't totally pointless - it was a dive calculator) - Animan351, on 06/25/2009, -0/+13No, a ***** load of people had them 10 years ago. you need to roll back another 5.
- memorex386, on 06/25/2009, -2/+15Who has a Yahoo account anymore?
- superkendall, on 06/24/2009, -3/+14But wouldn't the fact you didn't need special blessing mean there would be more apps?
Furthermore, I've developed for both - writing apps for the Palm was a lot simpler and easier to start doing (after all, the SDK was a lot less complex).
The growth of the App Store is amazing no matter how you slice it, compared to anything that has come before in the way of mobile apps. Heck, even desktop apps... never have so many people suddenly thrown a hat in the ring for writing a small app. - goeric, on 06/25/2009, -6/+16Except iPhone OS is based on OSX and webOS is based on...webOS
- specialK16, on 06/25/2009, -1/+11Yeah well, that's why he said "variations", you know.
- peestandingup, on 06/25/2009, -0/+9People that still use Myspace.
- CSFFlame, on 06/25/2009, -6/+15what happens when you take out all the flashlights and mirrors?
- MarkyBear, on 06/25/2009, -3/+11Windows Mobile stable?? Are you serious?? I had a Windows Mobile phone for 2 years up until a year ago. I never had a phone that crashed as much -sometimes when simply trying to answer a call! Windows Mobile is based on Win CE and people called it Wince for a reason.
- Sherman901, on 06/25/2009, -0/+8Yeah, how the ***** did this get to the front page?
- peestandingup, on 06/25/2009, -5/+13Retarded fanboy crap at that (cant even post a damn link properly).
- Azdak, on 06/25/2009, -0/+8Over 200 people have dugg a bad link to a graph comparing the iPhone OS to an OS from a decade ago?
Am I missing something? Surely I'm missing something. - woofers07, on 06/25/2009, -0/+6Thankfully the thumbnail spoils it anyway.
- insomniacal, on 06/25/2009, -1/+7Yet another reason to despise Yahoo.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -4/+9Easy to learn is good. In fact its one of the primary goals of any OS, or should be.
The iPhone OS is hardly dumb, its just elegant, responsive, intuitive and efficient. - NathanCH, on 06/25/2009, -3/+8Yet.
- LordNecros, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5Since when did you have to login to see something posted to Flickr?
- tsunami643, on 06/25/2009, -3/+8...what exactly is this graph proving?
- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, on 06/25/2009, -1/+6This graph fails as a true comparison because 10 years ago, the market was completely different. iPods hadn't even been released yet, and there was not even anything close to an iPhone in existence. The market has grown in the past 13 years since Palm OS was released, and more users means more developers. This chart really proves nothing unless you account for the inflation of users since 1996 vs sheer volume today. There are obviously many other factors to account for, but that would be the obvious first step to make this graph a more legitimate comparison.
- devindotcom, on 06/25/2009, -4/+9Number of iphones in circulation at the time of the Apple App Store launch: around 8 million vs Palm's ZERO, because the hardware was launching too. I wrote an article about this, it's nonsense. Apples vs. Oranges.
- pyrogyro, on 06/25/2009, -3/+7ROFL hey those 9000 are all different...
- j0etb, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4How the hell does a non working link make it to the home page. I detect jiggery pokery
- blackopsfreak06, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5Quantify the quality of the apps and then we'll talk (not trying to be a jerk...I just have a feeling a lot of iPhone apps are probably not exactly useful items).
- blackopsfreak06, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4Haven't even visited the site in months.
- kahoona1, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4Not useful?! The Zippo app that lets you open a Zippo lighter and flick it is TOTALLY USEFUL.
/s - insky60, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5And we all feel sorry for you being on AT&T.
- Deepmist, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5No i'm pretty sure this graph represents the PalmOS considering WebOS has been out less than half a year.
- TexMexRex, on 06/25/2009, -5/+9Yes, Apple could learn alot from the way Porshce talks up Chrysler, or Coke talks about how great Diet Rite is.
- fasthackem, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Wannabe Spammers that's who -lol
- handheldchimp, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4God, even though it wants you to sign in, im too lazy to type my user name and password...yet I just wrote all of this out...FML...
- Hamsterpotpies, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4I have never had a problem. I have a Q9c running 6.1. Sure it might be an unofficial ROM. But, it works fine. I have sktools running in the background to make sure my phone doesn't eat up all the RAM.
- bjstiktrix, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4People know where the money lies. There wouldn't be a market for that on Palm.
- s0ny, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Go check out the Newtons UI, then check its release date.
Now go look up Palms first UI, and their release date...
notice something? - Xplorer, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3If they would just kill the people that are posting more than one link it would make more sense...
- thushan, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4That stiffy that 'iPhoneOS' got was after all these 'iPhone Developers' figured they can be iMillionaires if they sell some retarted application on AppStore for 99c.
Some people unfortunately think that there was no form of a smart phone prior to the iPhone, the same goes for MP3 players before iPod - and we're talking general users of either product.
Having said that though, the iPhone and iPod touch is so easy to use and user-friendly. Apple know UI design and concepts. - Insane40k, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3OSX is based on Darwin, which is based on FreeBSD => iPhone is based on FreeBSD
- btschul, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Why? Do you really think that people on a tech website like digg are stupid enough to click on your spam links?
- zdiggler, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3On palmOS most of the app were very useful for its limitations.
- d03boy, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4Instead of looking at launch months, let's look at YEAR
- Sensai, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4Last I counted, there were a little more than 9000.
- enrq, on 06/25/2009, -2/+4ohhh snap...
