- damacman, on 10/27/2007, -23/+42Can't wait to give it a try. This is why I am a Apple Fan boy... Sorry Vista lovers!!
- Jonsey, on 10/27/2007, -5/+20Agreed, and I'm a Mac user... pick your OS and shut up.
- deadbaby, on 10/27/2007, -16/+30"Minimal Clicking, Maximally Intuitive"
This is one of the main reasons I love OSX. It's crazy how much clicking you gotta do in Vista for even the most basic tasks. Between UAC and the poorly redesigned control panel it's an absolute nightmare to do something simple like changing your IP address. In OSX it's what, 3 clicks? Gotta be a half dozen on Vista or more. - replica, on 10/27/2007, -10/+22Can tell you don`t use Vista. Been using Vista for 8 months and in normal daily use I never see the UAC prompt. It is very unobtrusive. If you say otherwise then you have not used Vista or are a lying fanboy.
- chugger1992, on 10/27/2007, -2/+10Ubuntu does the same exact thing.
- Lynn, on 10/27/2007, -22/+29You Mac fans talk about Vista a lot. Why don`t you just enjoy your OS of choice and stop bitching and moaning about other peoples choices.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -5/+12Im a network engineer and I find very dubious the claim that you need to change your ip address much at all...
- ThatBlokeRob, on 10/27/2007, -0/+7I think you're missing the < sarcasm > tag.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7Hey be careful doing that. If you pull it out before your file is finished copying, you might have to plug it back in and copy your file again.
- sych0, on 10/27/2007, -3/+9How about the redundant apply button when you change anything in windows? Why doesn't it just do it?
- Neverwinter004, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5KDE4 is ahead in the eyes of a Linux user. In reality, not really.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+6Leopard's just been released, and there can't be a single Digg discussion without 75% of the comments being posted by idiots who either need to reassure themselves that Windows is OK, or or how Windows sucks, or are just pathological Apple haters.
And you bring up KDE? Go the ***** away. - dnields, on 10/27/2007, -10/+15I can wait and I'm a Mac user... not a loser Apple Fanboy.
- pyrates, on 10/27/2007, -2/+7Duh. Because Microsoft doesn't know if a setup program needs admin access or not to run, so it prompts the user when they run a setup program by default. This is to maintain backward compatibility with those apps that aren't aware of UAC. Most setup programs in windows only install in the account they are run under, which when uac is enabled is the administrator, and during install you can then set all users to have access to that program. That is why it prompts you. When you install iTunes on OS X, does it prompt you for a password? Of course. Don't say OS X doesn't prompt you. I just gave you an example.
But when a setup program is designed for Vista and can be installed in a regular user account without admin access, then it doesn't prompt you and just installs so that only your account can install it. Synctoy is an example of this. - inactive, on 10/26/2007, -3/+8quit yer bitching and moaning dude.
- ferrariman60, on 10/27/2007, -6/+11actually you can change your ip in vista with no mouse clicks. Just fire up cmd prompt. just a few keystrokes.
- superkendall, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Vista with UAC turned off is a security nightmare though. It just keeps up the status quo with security issues...
- silentdragoon, on 10/27/2007, -12/+16I don't mean to bitch at you in particular, but:
UAC can be turned off. That takes about, oh, five clicks? Stop acting like it's the most horrendous thing in the world. I believe that it actually protects users who are not very savvy, and those who don't need it can disable it easily. - inactive, on 10/27/2007, -8/+12I'm surprised, this is the first Leopard article I've seen on the front page today.
- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -6/+10One two three four I declare a flame war.
- ferrariman60, on 10/27/2007, -4/+8And OS X does the exact same thing Ubuntu does.
- mfearby, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4It seems somebody at Apple has actually be hearing the screams of the non-dumb-computer-using community and have included a Path Bar (for more than just searches, by the looks of it):
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2647/leopard_breadc ...
Now if only there was a fix for some of those irritating keyboard shortcuts, like End instead of Ctrl-End to move to the end of the line, and how about making it so that the Apple key on the keyboard, when pressed by itself, shows the Apple menu? And get rid of Cmd+O to go into a folder or open a file in the Finder (or at least put in an "Advanced" preference pane to change it for the Love of God and All that is Holy, PLEASE!) - muzikkislife, on 10/27/2007, -5/+9i have Windows XP, and im satisfied but i now wanna Mac after reading this article!
- chugger1992, on 10/27/2007, -1/+5really? I didn't know that.
- superkendall, on 10/27/2007, -2/+5Why do all the Mac Haters such as yourself take the time to come on here bitching about Mac users bitching?
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, buddy. - atbnet, on 10/27/2007, -10/+13I think some people hate Windows more than they like OS X. Leopard is awesome, just go enjoy it stop bitching about Vista. God damn such tired arguments.
- yabos, on 10/27/2007, -3/+6Yeah and then your files get corrupted. Nice move.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3My upgrade-install went flawlessly on my MacBook. The hardest part was waiting for Spotlight to re-index.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2And what if this guy didn't know anything about security? You've just invited him to a world of spyware and viruses. Good job.
- jmadren, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Apply saves the changes and leaves the dialog/window open. OK saves the changes and closes the dialog/window. But I agree, seldom do I ever want to "stay" in the dialog (like maybe 1 out of 1000 times).
- mlostracco, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2View > Show Path Bar
- mfearby, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3How is having to add a path button to the top of the Finder window, and having to click on it each and every time you want to find out which folder you're in, "intuitive"? Has Apple not heard of such things as address/location bars? If I have multiple folders named "pictures" and want to drag between them, how am I easily going to tell which is which? "Yay, because Apple can't design a GUI, I have to click on the stupid path button each time. Where can I bend over and present myself to Steve Jobs? Please sir, give me more!"
- enicholas, on 10/27/2007, -6/+8The only way you don't see the UAC prompt is if you turned it off. Even something as simple as opening a control panel or running a downloaded program triggers UAC.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2I always hit "Apply" first out of habit. Back in the day there were a lot of apps that wouldn't actually make the change unless you hit apply before hitting ok. Yay for broken programs.
- ravi7791, on 10/27/2007, -6/+8I must agree with deadbaby about the number of clicks to do simple things. For example, Windows' file dialog (when you're opening files and such) seems so tedious. I hate having to go through the drop down tree especially when there's a ton of things listed in it.
It doesn't really matter if you haven't used a Mac a lot. After using it for a while, these little things on Windows just become annoying. Whenever I'm on a Windows machine, I find myself swinging the mouse over to a corner because I'm so used to seeing all my windows with expose on the mac. Just another example. - Bamborzled, on 10/27/2007, -1/+31.Windows+R
2.Type "cmd"
3.You're done! - SuperSunny, on 10/27/2007, -4/+6Leopard is the *****. i've never used anything so damn cool and awesome before. It made me feel like Vista's UI was dungheap and don't even bring in KDE4...
- joel8x, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2AS a loyal Apple customer, don't buy the first revision of a redesigned computer - you should either buy the current one which is pretty much ironed out of most of the manufacturing bugs, or wait until the second rev of a new design.
- Refrag, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Didn't you backup first?
- joel8x, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2There are some important programs out there that will not run properly with UAC turned off, so for some of us it is a nightmare to deal with.
- sixspeed, on 10/26/2007, -2/+4It takes two clicks to remove a USB drive in XP.
- Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff164/bdoggle/a ...
- mlostracco, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2Command-T, or right-click and "open in new tab."
- Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Yes, you're right. Because there are millions of people who hate windows and have never even tried OS 10.
- Boondoggle, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1They were mostly Halo 3.
- Ellipsys, on 10/27/2007, -1/+2All right, so it seems like its a nice advancement of the OS. I'm thinking of buying a MacBook Pro, but until a new revision (and hopefully a totally new design etc..) arrives, I think I'm going to keep it on hold. Leopard will be there waiting when I'm ready to buy. I just wish they'd bring out a new MBP chassis design.
- lebruf, on 10/27/2007, -0/+11. The stock didn't languish because I didn't know what I was talking about - use logic in your arguments.
2. Your grammar sucks - find some program to help you there.
3. One day's trading activity is hardly noteworthy in the long run because it is a reflection of investor sentiment and speculation and it needs to be sustained in order for it to be considered an entrance into a "growth" phase. - Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1http://www.microsoft.com/msft/FAQ/dividend.mspx
Lets see how that 10-20% ROI of yours works out with the divided. The dividend is currently 11 Cents per share. One share costs for the sake of argument, $30. The dividend is paid quarterly, so in a year you'll earn 44 cents on your $30. (0.44/30)*100=1.46% Annual ROI.
That is again, 1.46% ROI.
Not 10-20%
There was a ONE TIME dividend of $3/share. That would get you 10%. ONCE.
With the normal dividends you could expect to earn something on the order of 20% ROI OVER 7 YEARS, NOT EVERY YEAR FOR 7 YEARS.
BUT THEY STARTED PAYING DIVIDENDS IN 2004... 3 years ago.
So you're completely ***** up. - Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1"untouchably dominant on the game console market."
Where do you get this from? Oh, I know, Your ass. - shellnet, on 10/27/2007, -2/+2There are like 2 useful comments on here. What a waste of 3 minutes of my life. The good news my AAPL and MSFT both up! Sweet!
