- damacman, on 10/27/2007, -23/+42Can't wait to give it a try. This is why I am a Apple Fan boy... Sorry Vista lovers!!
- brownr21, on 10/27/2007, -23/+17Nobody cares.
- dnields, on 10/27/2007, -10/+15I can wait and I'm a Mac user... not a loser Apple Fanboy.
- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -12/+7Don't apologize to Windows losers.
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -5/+1"Don't apologize"
There I fixed that for yah.
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -5/+1"Don't apologize"
- miles01110, on 10/27/2007, -3/+1Why does Safari STILL not have an "add tab" button? Sigh.
- mlostracco, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2Command-T, or right-click and "open in new tab."
- deadbaby, on 10/27/2007, -16/+30"Minimal Clicking, Maximally Intuitive"
This is one of the main reasons I love OSX. It's crazy how much clicking you gotta do in Vista for even the most basic tasks. Between UAC and the poorly redesigned control panel it's an absolute nightmare to do something simple like changing your IP address. In OSX it's what, 3 clicks? Gotta be a half dozen on Vista or more.- silentdragoon, on 10/27/2007, -12/+16I don't mean to bitch at you in particular, but:
UAC can be turned off. That takes about, oh, five clicks? Stop acting like it's the most horrendous thing in the world. I believe that it actually protects users who are not very savvy, and those who don't need it can disable it easily.- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -9/+3Microsoft has to treat its users like idiots because Windows was designed by a bunch of Keebler elves smoking crack.
- yabos, on 10/27/2007, -6/+5Yeah you can turn it off but then you're back to XP security or worse. Some security people say Vista without UAC is actually worse than XP for some reason.
- superkendall, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Vista with UAC turned off is a security nightmare though. It just keeps up the status quo with security issues...
- joel8x, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2There are some important programs out there that will not run properly with UAC turned off, so for some of us it is a nightmare to deal with.
- ferrariman60, on 10/27/2007, -6/+11actually you can change your ip in vista with no mouse clicks. Just fire up cmd prompt. just a few keystrokes.
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -5/+12Im a network engineer and I find very dubious the claim that you need to change your ip address much at all...
- superkendall, on 10/27/2007, -3/+2How did you fire up a command prompt with no mouse clicks?
- Bamborzled, on 10/27/2007, -1/+31.Windows+R
2.Type "cmd"
3.You're done!
- Bamborzled, on 10/27/2007, -1/+31.Windows+R
- replica, on 10/27/2007, -10/+22Can tell you don`t use Vista. Been using Vista for 8 months and in normal daily use I never see the UAC prompt. It is very unobtrusive. If you say otherwise then you have not used Vista or are a lying fanboy.
- shadowpr0ph3t, on 10/27/2007, -7/+7UAC is the most annoying thing ever. Does your computer need protecting for you?
- chugger1992, on 10/27/2007, -2/+10Ubuntu does the same exact thing.
- ferrariman60, on 10/27/2007, -4/+8And OS X does the exact same thing Ubuntu does.
- enicholas, on 10/27/2007, -6/+8The only way you don't see the UAC prompt is if you turned it off. Even something as simple as opening a control panel or running a downloaded program triggers UAC.
- ferrariman60, on 10/27/2007, -3/+2Then turn it off. I just tested it out, and counted 3 mouse clicks from desktop, to disabling UAC, back to desktop. Including the restart. It takes no effort, and if you're not a moron about your computer you don't even need UAC.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2And what if this guy didn't know anything about security? You've just invited him to a world of spyware and viruses. Good job.
- pyrates, on 10/27/2007, -2/+7Duh. Because Microsoft doesn't know if a setup program needs admin access or not to run, so it prompts the user when they run a setup program by default. This is to maintain backward compatibility with those apps that aren't aware of UAC. Most setup programs in windows only install in the account they are run under, which when uac is enabled is the administrator, and during install you can then set all users to have access to that program. That is why it prompts you. When you install iTunes on OS X, does it prompt you for a password? Of course. Don't say OS X doesn't prompt you. I just gave you an example.
But when a setup program is designed for Vista and can be installed in a regular user account without admin access, then it doesn't prompt you and just installs so that only your account can install it. Synctoy is an example of this.

- soopafly, on 10/27/2007, -12/+11Ejecting a USB drive in XP takes about five clicks compared to one click in OSX. People really underestimate usability.
- over90000, on 10/27/2007, -8/+7XP = 0 clicks. I simply pull it out.
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7Hey be careful doing that. If you pull it out before your file is finished copying, you might have to plug it back in and copy your file again.
- chugger1992, on 10/27/2007, -1/+5really? I didn't know that.
- yabos, on 10/27/2007, -3/+6Yeah and then your files get corrupted. Nice move.
- AdionC, on 10/27/2007, -3/+3I never click any buttons before ejecting an USB drive. Hasn't caused any problems so far for me...
- sixspeed, on 10/26/2007, -2/+4It takes two clicks to remove a USB drive in XP.
- over90000, on 10/27/2007, -8/+7XP = 0 clicks. I simply pull it out.
- ravi7791, on 10/27/2007, -6/+8I must agree with deadbaby about the number of clicks to do simple things. For example, Windows' file dialog (when you're opening files and such) seems so tedious. I hate having to go through the drop down tree especially when there's a ton of things listed in it.
It doesn't really matter if you haven't used a Mac a lot. After using it for a while, these little things on Windows just become annoying. Whenever I'm on a Windows machine, I find myself swinging the mouse over to a corner because I'm so used to seeing all my windows with expose on the mac. Just another example.- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -4/+4Wow, since I switched to vista I have had no trouble getting used to win+tab instead of alt+tab. Also putting that button right there next the start menu was genius.
PLUS!!!! I love the full screen effect that windows has. Was that new in Vista?
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -4/+4Wow, since I switched to vista I have had no trouble getting used to win+tab instead of alt+tab. Also putting that button right there next the start menu was genius.
- sych0, on 10/27/2007, -3/+9How about the redundant apply button when you change anything in windows? Why doesn't it just do it?
- chugger1992, on 10/27/2007, -2/+2I don't even know why they have it. "OK" is the same as apply.
- jmadren, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Apply saves the changes and leaves the dialog/window open. OK saves the changes and closes the dialog/window. But I agree, seldom do I ever want to "stay" in the dialog (like maybe 1 out of 1000 times).
- spectre_25gt, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2I always hit "Apply" first out of habit. Back in the day there were a lot of apps that wouldn't actually make the change unless you hit apply before hitting ok. Yay for broken programs.

- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -9/+2CAUSE WINDOWS SUCKS BULL PIZZLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- silentdragoon, on 10/27/2007, -12/+16I don't mean to bitch at you in particular, but:
- Drewboy64, on 10/27/2007, -15/+7It's the quiet before the storm... the storm of vista trolls that is. : P
- sbgskl, on 10/27/2007, -7/+3I am in control.
- Lynn, on 10/27/2007, -22/+29You Mac fans talk about Vista a lot. Why don`t you just enjoy your OS of choice and stop bitching and moaning about other peoples choices.
- Jonsey, on 10/27/2007, -5/+20Agreed, and I'm a Mac user... pick your OS and shut up.
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -6/+2Naw, now you have to suffer the paybacks for your peers with Microsofts quarterly results proving conclusively two things, Vista is a huge success in spite of the efforts of Blog'o'sphere fudsters, two apples growth is not that compelling compared to the overall growth of the technology sector. SELL YOUR STOCK BEFORE THE CORRECTION!!!
- soopafly, on 10/27/2007, -3/+2You're obviously new to Digg...
from a Mac user to another.
- chesscat, on 10/28/2007, -9/+4We'll bitch all we want because Microsoft has held the general pc populace in shackles for too long.
- cklol, on 10/28/2007, -5/+3The phrase "bitching and moaning" needs to be removed from the english language.
- B1663r, on 10/26/2007, -3/+8quit yer bitching and moaning dude.
- lebruf, on 10/27/2007, -9/+4OSX is a joy to use. I still use Vista because.... well, because I don't have a choice. The business world is still ruled by Microsoft's OS, and although it's a very slowly changing landscape, I don't see Apple really making a dent in that market anytime soon until corporate America starts seeing for themselves that the ignorant 40 year old virgin IT professional / PC fanboys weren't all that right on their opinion of Apple.
Either way, Microsoft fans shouldn't bitch b/c Apple fans can appreciate what they have when for the past 15 years, ignorant PC users ***** talk the OS and the Hardware - and most everyone who has used a mac, can conclude with absolute certainty that it is the top of the line in the personal computing universe.
And furthermore B1663r, Microsoft's quarterly results are mostly due to the fact that the bar was set low for them (the stock has languished for the past 7 years) and they finally did an OS upgrade for the first time in 5 years, so everyone who wanted to get the hell away from XP dropped their average $200 for one of the 24 flavors Vista comes in. It's too bad they all had a rude awakening when they first experienced Vista - the most cumbersome OSX wannabe available on the market. Quarterly earnings weren't all Vista too... don't forget Halo 3.- Boondoggle, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1They were mostly Halo 3.
- B1663r, on 10/27/2007, -1/+1It has languished for 7 years, only because you don't know what you are talking about and are comparing it to a growth stock. When you are totally dominant and no one can touch you, it is not like the stock can go up anymore. That is why Microsoft switched to paying dividends instead stock growth. Something like a 10-20% roi every year for the last 7 years. That would be a great stock to own.
However it is clear the Microsoft has entered into a growth phase again, now that they are becoming totally and untouchably dominant on the game console market. Also it looks like their internet business is going to start raking in the dough soon as well. For example, in raw dollars, Microsoft's one day gain today was as much as Apples gains in the last 6 months. About 30 billion dollars in total market capitalization.
That you minimize that shows your near total ignorance of both stock trading and business. But hey you use an apple computer because you like it.- lebruf, on 10/27/2007, -0/+11. The stock didn't languish because I didn't know what I was talking about - use logic in your arguments.
2. Your grammar sucks - find some program to help you there.
3. One day's trading activity is hardly noteworthy in the long run because it is a reflection of investor sentiment and speculation and it needs to be sustained in order for it to be considered an entrance into a "growth" phase. - Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1http://www.microsoft.com/msft/FAQ/dividend.mspx
Lets see how that 10-20% ROI of yours works out with the divided. The dividend is currently 11 Cents per share. One share costs for the sake of argument, $30. The dividend is paid quarterly, so in a year you'll earn 44 cents on your $30. (0.44/30)*100=1.46% Annual ROI.
That is again, 1.46% ROI.
Not 10-20%
There was a ONE TIME dividend of $3/share. That would get you 10%. ONCE.
With the normal dividends you could expect to earn something on the order of 20% ROI OVER 7 YEARS, NOT EVERY YEAR FOR 7 YEARS.
BUT THEY STARTED PAYING DIVIDENDS IN 2004... 3 years ago.
So you're completely ***** up. - Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff164/bdoggle/a ...
- lebruf, on 10/27/2007, -0/+11. The stock didn't languish because I didn't know what I was talking about - use logic in your arguments.
- Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1"untouchably dominant on the game console market."
Where do you get this from? Oh, I know, Your ass.
- superkendall, on 10/27/2007, -2/+5Why do all the Mac Haters such as yourself take the time to come on here bitching about Mac users bitching?
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, buddy.
- Jonsey, on 10/27/2007, -5/+20Agreed, and I'm a Mac user... pick your OS and shut up.
- replica, on 10/27/2007, -19/+6Is that what it looks like? Wow that is one ugly OS.
- seand, on 10/27/2007, -8/+3It's not ugly...it's...INTUITIVE.
- mfearby, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3How is having to add a path button to the top of the Finder window, and having to click on it each and every time you want to find out which folder you're in, "intuitive"? Has Apple not heard of such things as address/location bars? If I have multiple folders named "pictures" and want to drag between them, how am I easily going to tell which is which? "Yay, because Apple can't design a GUI, I have to click on the stupid path button each time. Where can I bend over and present myself to Steve Jobs? Please sir, give me more!"
- mlostracco, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2View > Show Path Bar
- mfearby, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4It seems somebody at Apple has actually be hearing the screams of the non-dumb-computer-using community and have included a Path Bar (for more than just searches, by the looks of it):
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2647/leopard_breadc ...
Now if only there was a fix for some of those irritating keyboard shortcuts, like End instead of Ctrl-End to move to the end of the line, and how about making it so that the Apple key on the keyboard, when pressed by itself, shows the Apple menu? And get rid of Cmd+O to go into a folder or open a file in the Finder (or at least put in an "Advanced" preference pane to change it for the Love of God and All that is Holy, PLEASE!)

- atbnet, on 10/27/2007, -10/+13I think some people hate Windows more than they like OS X. Leopard is awesome, just go enjoy it stop bitching about Vista. God damn such tired arguments.
- Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Yes, you're right. Because there are millions of people who hate windows and have never even tried OS 10.
- Boondoggle, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Yes, you're right. Because there are millions of people who hate windows and have never even tried OS 10.
- Quote737, on 10/27/2007, -8/+12I'm surprised, this is the first Leopard article I've seen on the front page today.
- mfearby, on 10/27/2007, -9/+2All the Mac fanboys have been home jerking off over the Mac OS X packaging, that's why.
- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -10/+3When you die one of these is your eternal fate: Welcome to Heaven here's your Mac with Leopard OS X. Or, welcome to Hell here's your PC with Vista.
- Goache, on 10/27/2007, -15/+8Is it me or does KDE4 look years ahead of Leopard?
- ThatBlokeRob, on 10/27/2007, -0/+7I think you're missing the < sarcasm > tag.
- Neverwinter004, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5KDE4 is ahead in the eyes of a Linux user. In reality, not really.
- astrosmash, on 10/27/2007, -1/+6Leopard's just been released, and there can't be a single Digg discussion without 75% of the comments being posted by idiots who either need to reassure themselves that Windows is OK, or or how Windows sucks, or are just pathological Apple haters.
And you bring up KDE? Go the ***** away.
- woxidu, on 10/27/2007, -9/+2If you had the word "Vista" in your post anywhere, I just dugg your comment down. Digg me down too if you would also like to see one (just one) post to News > Technology > {Your OS of Choice} that doesn't involve a flame war.
- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -6/+10One two three four I declare a flame war.
- chesscat, on 10/27/2007, -5/+2A typical day at work with my no choice windows pc. Computer: "You may continue working while windows updates for the 2,345,345 time." Me: "Gee, thanks, I forgot for a second there who was in control."
- legendxx, on 10/27/2007, -8/+4rofl that is the dumbest description I've ever heard. Every product has 2 audiences... those who own a previous version, and those who dont.
GROUNDBREAKING- allenu, on 10/27/2007, -2/+2Here's another great quote: "Recall that the reason people camped out overnight to get the iPhone wasn't because early buyers were excitable fans ready to buy anything, but because they appreciated the work Apple spends in crafting its designs, both in hardware and in the software interface." Stating opinion as fact doesn't make it so.
- nadadingsda, on 10/27/2007, -11/+2It seem people like people here like to discuss which OS is the right to use, at the end the whole things boils down to this:
If you chose to use OSX you are Steve's bitch, if you go with Windows you are Bill's bitch, if you use Linux you are the pimp and the OS is your bitch that does whatever you want it to do.
I don't know, of course you are free to choose but for me it's a pretty obvious choice what to use (hint: if you like to get f***ed don't use Linux) - muzikkislife, on 10/27/2007, -5/+9i have Windows XP, and im satisfied but i now wanna Mac after reading this article!
- doppenhe, on 10/27/2007, -3/+1I just got Leopard , my computer was running perfect before (Mac Pro G5) , tried upgrading to Leopard froze all 3 times i tried installing it... currently on hold with customer support :-(
- Refrag, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Didn't you backup first?
- astrosmash, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3My upgrade-install went flawlessly on my MacBook. The hardest part was waiting for Spotlight to re-index.
- shellnet, on 10/27/2007, -2/+2There are like 2 useful comments on here. What a waste of 3 minutes of my life. The good news my AAPL and MSFT both up! Sweet!
- Ellipsys, on 10/27/2007, -1/+2All right, so it seems like its a nice advancement of the OS. I'm thinking of buying a MacBook Pro, but until a new revision (and hopefully a totally new design etc..) arrives, I think I'm going to keep it on hold. Leopard will be there waiting when I'm ready to buy. I just wish they'd bring out a new MBP chassis design.
- joel8x, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2AS a loyal Apple customer, don't buy the first revision of a redesigned computer - you should either buy the current one which is pretty much ironed out of most of the manufacturing bugs, or wait until the second rev of a new design.
- SuperSunny, on 10/27/2007, -4/+6Leopard is the *****. i've never used anything so damn cool and awesome before. It made me feel like Vista's UI was dungheap and don't even bring in KDE4...
Check out the new & improved
