- stuckinneutral, on 06/17/2009, -3/+30Some of these are really good.
- aalmeida259, on 06/17/2009, -1/+15it would suck to have a masterpiece painted and the phone crashes and you have to start all over again.
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/17/2009, -2/+15Some of these people could paint with ***** and a stick, real talent there. That said some of these apps are pretty cool, and work for drawing pretty well.
- ben3308, on 06/17/2009, -0/+5I paint in acrylics, and I've used a tablet to do some fancy stuff on Facebook's simple 'graffiti' app - which there are a LOT of talented users on - but I just can't see how these people are gaining precision from their fingers. Using Q-tips as a stylus or something? I dunno, maybe just pressure from the tips of their cuticles?
Something I definitely need to figure out... - judgeFire, on 06/17/2009, -0/+5While there are a number of styluses for capacitative screens, these were probably painted by using the Brushes app's zoom-in function. You can work on a relatively large canvas, up to 1920×2880 pixels for print quality stuff.
- FredFredrickson, on 06/17/2009, -2/+5Sweeping the world? No.
And anyway, it's just a paint program. People with artistic skill make art in paint programs. Who woulda thought? Why is this any different than anything else artistic? - Nairebis, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3I don't know if you've used the iPhone or not, but one of the things it's really good at is getting precision from your fingers. As near as I can figure out, it seems to calculate the center of the region you're pushing on. I have a little simple drawing app, and once you get the hang of where the middle of your fingertip is, you can be pretty precise even with very thin lines.
Oh, and people are definitely using fingertips. The iphone screen doesn't work with finger nails or styluses. - vineyardvine, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Mike Wizowski!
- Import98, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2It's $5, not 3
- djbuffnstuff, on 06/17/2009, -1/+3the first one where you see the ipod, i was like....wtf? that sucks. but then you see the rest of them. good lord.
- mattp, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Seriously? Three dollars is nothing. I would argue that it's worth much more than that, too.
I realize that some people can't afford to buy a lot of apps, or even a few "expensive" ones, but this is literally the price of a cup of coffee. - FredFredrickson, on 06/17/2009, -2/+3You should have stopped at 'depth' so it would have made sense.
- migitalwarfare, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1I haven't used Brushes, but I'd assume you can zoom in to get into the finer details
- inactive, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1It was intentional...
- heffeque, on 06/17/2009, -1/+2Best ones from Xoan (from Cataluña, Spain).
- migitalwarfare, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1dumb stupid dumb comment
- Wazzuper1, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Ok sure. Could you buy it for me then? You're paying $3 dollars for a cup of coffee. After all, $3 is nothing.
I asked a legitimately sound question: are there any comparable apps for free? I'm not sure why I was dugg down. There are thousands of apps, many of them duplicating the same features. Tell me, would you rather get something that's as good for free or end up paying money for it? Even if it's juuussttt slightly not as good I'd take it for free. Why?
Maybe it's because I don't feel that "investing" into the application would be worth my time. I've purchased very few apps..and to be honest, even with their stellar reviews (I check the ***** out of those comments), I find that I rarely ever use them after the first week. They're fun and they "work", but I could have been better off with a free version.
Maybe the free apps that I'm looking for are supported by ads? The developer still gets his/her share of revenue. There are plenty of quality gems out there supported by ads.
Or perhaps for the simple sake that it's FREE! You've tried at least one free application, I'm sure of it. And it was pretty good right? Now look at one of their competitors. Oh look! Sharper graphics! Or maybe it has a nicer logo! But it's not much of an improvement over the free one. Should I buy it? It's really your call. For me? No dice.
PS if you're paying $3 for a cup of coffee, might I suggest making it at home? It may not taste AS good as the Starbuck's or wherever you're getting it from, but it's doing it's job right? - EasternWind, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1looks pretty :)
- HiddenLondon, on 06/17/2009, -2/+3What is the verb to paint on an iPhone, an in-ting? Whatever they're called, they look great.
- CoD4, on 06/17/2009, -4/+4My favorite is the one made with the iphone
- DiggRage, on 06/17/2009, -2/+2Hey, come one, it's not only amazing but MIND BLOWING also!
- breckinshire, on 06/17/2009, -1/+1Gimp?
- IamNomad, on 06/18/2009, -1/+1too much time on their hands.
- DAToolbox, on 08/04/2009, -0/+0Nice! check out these masterpeices painted on an iPhone http://digg.com/arts_culture/32_Unbelievable_Paint ...
- Wazzuper1, on 06/17/2009, -3/+2Pretty neat! Does anyone happen to know of any free apps that are comparable to Brushes?
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/17/2009, -5/+1Yeah but iPhone 3G S crashes twice as fast, so there.
- DoodleMaster, on 06/17/2009, -5/+1I've always wished I could draw, but alas I'm to much of a dumb *****, I have no sense of depth perception. :|
- KJSatz, on 06/17/2009, -8/+3Some of these are really okay
- Cabose, on 06/17/2009, -9/+3That first one was awesome! So lifelike!
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -10/+3I wonder if someone can paint an iphone that has ATT MMS and Theathering support?

What is Digg?
