- surf314, on 10/10/2007, -4/+38"There is one area where the new iMac regresses from its predecessor: the viewing angle. The previous 20" model offered a 170° viewing angle. The new glossy-screened 20-incher restricts the viewing angle to 160° (the 24" offers a 178° viewing angle)."
Pfft I won't be buying one until they can give me a viewing angle over 180 degrees. Bastards I want to use my iMac from the back. - Langford, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24It looks pretty spiffy, and obviously saves space. Although I am not interested in a Mac, I probably would have considered this if I were.
- danny951, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20It's nice to see a review this quick where they author has actually been using the machine for a day or so before spouting off opinions. Good read.
- jdstl1977, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17You're being sarcastic, right?
- DaBrainiac, on 10/10/2007, -6/+22Dugg for using the word 'transmogrified'.
- roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Dugg for a respectful, honest opinion instead of PC fanboy whining.
- tehxen3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Not interested in you not being interested or your blog.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Original *and* witty! Please, come into my house and meet my daughter.
- Rahodeb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Was there something incorrect about what he said? He responded to a request for info and provided the pro's and con's. You, on the other hand, managed to throw both "fanboy" and "lol" into your vomit reply. Enjoy being a troll.
- FoxOrian, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14I bought one on Aug 7th, 24" model. I love the thing. It's a vast improvement to the original, I believe. I do agree that the keyboard should have had black keys, and the mouse doesn't seem to match the keyboard [the mouse almost seems bigger than the keyboard is!] but seriously the glossy display is absolutely no problem at all. I have a bright window behing me as I'm writing this and I can only see it's reflection if I intently look for and focus on it. Id take the perfectly clean colors this monitor gives over the old screen with the sparkle-noise in the coatings any day. I don't know why he can't get used to the black apple, it's no problem to me. I just can't wait for Leopard to be released -- it's really going to match this computer well, I think.
I posted photos with thoughts at my flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/fox-orian/1048149615/ - NerdyNinja, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Agreed. 'Ovoid" was good too.
- NerdyNinja, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I'm still a little curious about that keyboard. I expect the new iMac to be just that, a new iMac. Same idea as the old one, just a bit sexier and a bit faster.
- vackraord, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13Im buying one, it's just a matter of time. I would like to see a little more opinions on the 24" display, is it good enough to use as a TV-replacement? I have a one room apartment and it would be so nice to kick my old TV to the curb and use an iMac with EyeTV instead. If someone has some thoughts on the matter please respond.
- hobbit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Too true, more honest opinions like this one instead of FUD.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13Seeing as Vista is exactly half as good as Leopard* then it would even out
* scientifically proven fact - moofer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6There are plenty of parts at your local Fry's Electronics for you to jawa something together to your liking. Not every company has to do things the way you do them. Go ahead and stick to your method, and leave this one to the people that don't share your same hobby. It'll be okay. We can all get along.
- roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5EyeTV rocks. I used to work for El Gato, those are smart peeps!
- roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5SPAM. Buried.
- carbonfree314, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Three words: Parallels and Coherence.
You fail. - zweben, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8The display quality is probably going to be as good as or better than any TV of similar size in every area except brightness. The quality of the TV tuner is really going to be what effects your quality the most. Also, i'm not sure, but the glossy screen might cause additional glare.
If you can handle the very limited inputs, the screen is bright enough for you and don't mind paying for the EyeTV, I say go for it. - TheProfessional, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Brushed metal and black instead of white. Yay Apple!
I really don't see what the big deal about this is. Every computer company releases updated computers with newer parts. Why does a new iMac need 12 front page stories in a span of two days? - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6"I don't date girls"
There! Fixed it for you - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9he's building one. it's gonna be a fresh install of xp or vista or linux.
- carbonfree314, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Speaking as a person with an EyeTV Hybrid (Analog cable tuner, digital OTA tuner, no digital cable tuner :( ) on a 24" iMac (Previous C2D model), I can say that it works incredibly well, minus of course being unable to get digital cable signals. Plus, I can't connect an xbox 360 unless I want stupid SD quality. As of yet, I have found no way to connect anything that provides HD signals to my mac, so if anyone has any idea, it'd be wonderfully helpful. But as far as a TV replacement goes, it's great, as long as you don't use digital. :(
- JimSwarthow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6wow, 3 choices.. that's so overwhelming. make it stop, please. --
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9ooo the mac fanboys not gonna like thaat.
- JimSwarthow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5you can get a copy of XP for under $100. (and M$ doesn't charge for updates like Apple) and the overwhelming numbers of XP/Win users in comparison to Macs is based on sales not piracy. nitwit. -- I don't hate Macs, far from it actually. but jackasses like you are another story. you and your kool-aid drinkin' brethren are what gives Macs a bad name, not Macs.
- inactionman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Good luck finding a woman to have sex with you.
- avantgardener, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Great pictures
- ophello, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3glare isnt that bad, you pansy ass. =P
- surfacewound, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm just a bit disappointed that they did not include an eSATA port. Sure, Firewire 800 is nice, but I'd prefer eSATA, especially because there's a ton of eSATA enclosures available compared to Firewire 800.
- PDubNYC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Holy sh*t, you are a moron. The point is to use recyclable materials, instead of a largely plastic and toxic computer. Would you somehow feel better if it used 2 bottles worth of glass? Just STFU and put your head back up your ass
- DrShort, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5After a lifetime on a PC, I bought a 20" iMac yesteday. I was unconcerned with the performance of this or that PC vesus the iMac -- any new computer will work fine for my needs. I'm just tired and bored with Windows and wanted a machine with good design. But, I also got the best of both worlds. I installed Parallels and a fresh copy of XP and am running Windows and OS X on the same machine, at the same time (no rebooting from one OS to the other). It works great so far and I can even VPN into the corporate network from the Windows instance. Love it. Despite the fact I have no idea what I'm doing in OS X, I can see it's a pretty slick OS.
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Of the top of my head, Canon. Give me 10 minutes and I'll think of a tonne more.
- jet2112, on 10/10/2007, -15/+18but why would you want 2 pcs?
oh wait, you need two for when the one breaks down, you can have a backup. - Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5you got that right. you dont think.
seriously, there wasnt one word of that comment that wasnt completly false propaganda FUD, except for maybe Yay! - Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3if that were the case, wouldnt linux have the highest market share being as its free? If you are building your own pc you can buy OEM copies of XP or Vista for around $100.
- rogercolwell, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The keyboard is a serious ergonomic concern. Digg me down, but the software announced is a bigger deal than the hardware. And yes, I watched Job's whole keynote.
- pathy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yay I'm someone that knows how to use a computer.
- drgmdp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2well, maybe not two. but at least 1 and a half
- dlroo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Yeah its an honest opinion, and so are some of the others. Like Russianmike. Don't get hyper defensive when someone points out flaws in your choice of computing machine
- hobbit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33|173 5p34k 15 7h3 w0r57!
Oh wait, you not speaking 1337 ... what is that up with the "7" in "glossy"? - FoxOrian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's better than making new glass.
That's how it's better. - dromni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I use the old 17" as TV. It works well for me, considering a distance of 1.5 meter (5 feet?) between the sofa and the screen. So I guess that the 24" would be AWESOME.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2[citation needed]
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Run OS X apps natively?
- Azio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"Opening the rest of the case to upgrade the hard drive or CPU? Don't even think about it."
Wow, what a colossal waste of money. - miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3One day isn't much time, but it sure beats the typical reviews by people who don't own it yet and say things like "it is so worth it! That keyboard is so sleek and awesome. I'm sure it will be better than the old Mac keyboard. Steve Jobs did it again."
Anyway, I don't mind seeing early reviews. I just wish the authors would revisit them 6-12 months later to give an update because when something is new we tend to make excuses for when things don't work right. - racco, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3R.I.P open-apple key
- iticu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Because Max users should be proud that one of the arguments they use for not using Microsoft is that they aren't competent enough in Computing to avoid viruses, spyware, et cetera. It's not hard to do.
And spyware on Linux? Just as possible as spyware on Macs. -
